Hades and Thane are really closely linked, and as such I'm applying for them as the same character. I've often called them "one and a half" characters due to their connection.
Full Name: Hades (he has no true name. Hades is what he goes by)
Full Name: Thane (he was born before surnames became prevalent)
Nicknames (both): N/A
Apparent Age (both): Around ten. Hasn't hit pre-teens.
Age (Hades): He doesn't even know any more. Older than man.
Age (Thane): He stopped keeping track after a while. He was born in the late middle ages.
Height (Both): 3'10"-ish
Weight (Both): Lean. They aren't underweight, just with muscles developed in a way that makes them lean. A bit like a swimmer's body.
Gender (Hades): Technically genderless, but the "he" pronoun is most applicable.
Gender (Thane): Male
Race (Hades): Demon
Race (Thane): Technically Human
Alliance (Hades): Technically evil, but due to the task forced upon him by the forces of both light and dark, it falls more under neutral. He doesn't care the alignment of a person/thing if they get in his way.
Alliance (Thane): Technically neutral, but due to the circumstances involving his "merge" with Hades, he's significantly darker than one might expect.
Home (Hades): Doesn't truly have a home, but his "post" is what he considers to be where he belongs. A subterannean cavern in front of a giant vault. He was "born" from darkness as a concept rather than a place.
Home (Thane): Born in Europe during the late Middle Ages. Considers it to be the same area as Hades does.
Franchise(both): None (Totally original characters)
Physical Description (Hades): Hades current form is of a demon with the approximate body of a ten year old human child. His ears are pointed and his basic body could be compared to a child Drow elf of D&D fame. His hair is a very dark purple blue that could be mistaken for black in the right light. His bangs are kind of "clumpy". The majority of his hair is pulled back into a ponytail that reaches just past the base of his spine at the bottom tip. It has a silver bead at the base of his skull. About halfway down his back is another bead that is a royal blue color. His hair is "tied" in a way that keeps the beads in place, although it can be hard to tell. Near the base of the ponytail is a silver bead that has a single silver bat wing shape coming from either side.
He has two blood red horns that kind of curve around the outside of his ears before poking out again. They are pointed and could technically be used to gorge something. The "whites" of his eyes are yellow, and the colored part is red. The pupils are connected to the top of his eyes and curve slightly inwards, ending with a point.
His outfit looks vaguely egyptian. He has a jumpsuit of sorts that comes up to about his collarbone. It then rises from a strip that splits in two to form a v-shape (front and back) before making a choker like circle around his neck. His "sleeves" are actually seperate from the shirt and are short. They tightly hug just below the shoulder. They have a thick strip of a tarnished gold-like color at the bottom. He has gauntlet-like gloves that are hooked to his finger only by a strip that wraps around his middle finger. Note that his palms are bare. The base of the gloves have the same tarnished gold fabric as his "sleeves".
He has boots that look like a mix of normal shoes and roman sandels. The entire foot is covered, but it continues to wrap up, tyings themselves off at the base of his knee. They are of a similar color to the fabric at the base of his sleeves and gloves, but its a little more vibrant. The shoes are soft soled.
He has a navy blue bordering on black cloak/cape thing of sorts. It doesn't have any fasteners or anything, but he keeps it from sliding around with a sash tied arond his waist. The sash is the same color and base fabric as his shoes. (see pictures for a better idea of what I mean with this description.)
His teeth are slightly fanged, but its mainly an accentuation of his canines. They could do nasty damage if he were to bite someone but they have no real purpose (unlike, for example, a vampire's fangs) and are mainly for show.
Also, he does have a pair of wings that he can sprout from his back. He generally keeps them hidden. The wings are bascially dragon wings. The membranes are a darker black than his skin, but not quite pitch. The part that would contain bone on a dragon or bat are just skin, but a bone protrustion sticks out from the middle spike. It is the same color as his horns and curved inwards ever so slightly. These MUST be expressed for him to fly.
Physical Description (Thane): Other than looking more fit than average for a ten year old boy, Thane is pretty average looking. What he wears varies to day to day just like with a normal ten year old. He favors comfortable clothing like shorts and t-shirts. Prefers tennis shoes to other footwear, although he dislikes having to tie his shoes and prefers velcro. More natural colors tend to be what he wears such as whites, browns, blacks, greys, etc.
His hair is short and pretty ruffled looking, it doesn't appear like he spends much time bothering to comb it. It's light brown and looks like it might darken if he were to age. His eyes are brown and the most noticable feature. WAY more is going on behind them than behind most adults' eyes, let alone kids. He seems to be scrutinizing everything he looks at and if he looks you in the eyes he has a very "alpha" presence to him. The fact that those battle hardened eyes are coming from a ten year old's body only makes it all the more disconcerting.
It should also be noted he carries himself like an experience warrior and not a carefree kid. He can shed most of this maturity if the situation calls for it, but not all of it. Those who know the signs of a fighter will know right away something is wrong with this kid and there is far more to him than meets the eye.
Weapons: A scythe about 6 feet tall. It looks ridiculous whether Hades or Thane is holding it. It is actually a weapon of Hades' and it is only when Hades is dominant (either in mind or some degree of physical expression) that it can be summoned. It is invisible normally and is basically formed from the power of Hades soul/core of being. It can be dismissed or summoned in an instant and requires little to no effort on Hades' part. The fact that it looks ridiculous is something Hades uses to his advantage. It is quite easy to put anyone that doesn't know Hades off guard due to the contrast of height. Hades can wield it like a warrior can weld a sword, almost as if its an extension of his body rather than a seperate item.
The scythe itself has a staff that looks to be a semi-smooth stone, although nothing could break it (including a diamond blade). Wrapping around the scythe is a blood red bone-like substance extremely similar to Hades' horns. At the bottom the "bone" forms a batwing type base that is sharp and can be used to thrust or slash an opponent. The way the wings are designed means that if Hades yanks it out, it is likely to take innards with it.
The bone spirals up and at the top is shaped similar to a claw. The "claw" holds a large orb that appears to be made of solid steel unless the light hits it JUST right. If that happens, it is shown to be semi-transparent with a flickering orb of energy inside.
The blade is large and has a jagged part cut out of the center that vaguely resembles a bat wing. If one were to stick their hand (or any other body part) in there, Hades could flick it and sever the hand/body part.
The entire scythe is indestructable, but enough injuries to Hades can make it so he can't maintain it.
Abilities/Powers (Hades): First, the scythe. If Hades is weak or injured, it can be difficult for him to summon it because it requires usage of his life energies. If he gets really injured the scythe can even flick out of existance. Once he recovers a bit he can bring it back.
If Hades is touching one of the blood red bone-like pieces (which isn't that hard) he can channel his life force and release a blast of dark energy from the orb at the top. This does, however, expend energy and it is possible for him to knock himself out. He also can't do it too many times in a fight or if he's weak. Aside from the magical abilities, its a nasty weapon.
Hades is a skilled fighter. He is capable of fighting without his scythe in a manner similar to a super skilled martial artist.
He "eats" by absorbing negative energy. Its not anything that effects what he is absorbing. The negative energy can be from any source, although evil ones are better. He can sustain on the negative thoughts and feelings of man as well. Its more a matter of exposure than actual "absorption". Places will have energy as much as people, so he can be by himself for extended amounts of time. This isn't anything that would hinder him in a fight. If he were to fight the violent emotions (or actions in the case of the emotionless) would give him a boost.
Abilities/Powers (Thane): None really, but the ease at which Hades can take dominance means this means very little.
Skills (Hades): None really, and any he might have had are quite rusty. Limited skills with manipulating or tricking people.
Skills (Thane): Getting his way. He's good at pulling the "I'm a kid give me what I want" trick, although those that can sense he's more than just a kid are far more likely to not fall for this. Other than that, nothing really special.
Personality (Hades): Dry, humorless, serious. He doesn't take crap from nobody and won't repeat his warning more than once. About the only thing that frightens him is Chaos, the formless entity that escaped the Vault he was guarding and he is trying to reseal. The guy can get a joke, but he doesn't take them well and never makes them himself. He is very serious and to the point. Interestingly enough, he can be easily annoyed. He isn't shy about snapping at the person annoying him and is nowhere near above summoning his scythe and threatening them.
He does, however, understand the need to blend in and will not do anything he believes will jeapordize his mission. He is a master of "putting on masks" to fit a situation. His true face is a demonic evil with no qualms about killing everything in site, but he has forced this side of him to mellow some over the many millenia of solitude.
Personality (Thane): Remarkably similar to Hades due to the centuries the two have been merged. He is able to take and give jokes if he feels comfortable with a situation (which is rare) and shadows of his eternal childhood come out from time to time. Unlike Hades, who has a stick shoved so far up his bottom it sticks out his mouth, Thane can relax. He is the more enjoyable to be around, but he has the same unwavering sense of duty Hades has. He just knows that to accomplish things, sometimes you need to take a break.
History (both): Hades has no idea when he was "born", when he took his first step out of the primordial darkness. Like all demons, he started at the bottom of the ladder and killed, maimed, tortured, etc his way up. He was one of the leading "soldiers" in the forces of darkness vs the forces of light and loved killing just for the sake of killing.
As happens during various times in history, a truce occured between the forces of light and dark. During one of these truces, the forces of light insisted that something be done about Hades. As such, he was sent to this subterannean "vault" of sorts. To normal people it would look similar to the side of the wall but those with metaphyscial senses would see the gigantic doors. On the other side of the doors was a force known merely as "Chaos", sort of a concentration of the evils in Pandora's Box if you will. Even the most powerful demons feared this force, knowing if it were to get free it would destroy all realities beyond any chance of rebirth. Hades was relegated to guarding this vault, never to leave.
At one point in the late middle ages, some foolhardy group of men decided that they wanted to harness the powers of Chaos for themselves. In the confusion, a ten year old boy named Thane got involved. Hades managed to win the fight but was very gravely wounded. Well aware of the dangers, he chose to merge (see "Other") with the human child. The child fought him with every ounce of his willpower, which was quite more than Hades expected. He tried to tell the kid to allow it to happen. The kid could return home if he only put up with it.
Thane refused, and due to the amount of time Hades had to stay merged with the child and the energy he had to expend to keep the merge, the "dangers" of a merge occured and the codependency developed. Thane was never able to return home, and stayed merged with Hades as the guard of the Vault. The forces of light and dark chose to move the Vault to a safer location shortly after this occured, and it got moved to a deep cavern in what would be come to be known as the United States of America.
A college campus rose near the caves the Vault was located in, and rumors about the "haunted cavern" sprouted up over time. The forces of light caught wind of attempts to get to the vault and sent a low-ranking messenger angel to alert Hades. She got herself royally lost on the way there, allowing the forces attempting to get to the vault time to arrive.
It was night when Christopher, a nineteen year old college freshman, approached the caverns. His friends had dared him to go there and write his name on the inside of the caves. The messenger angel arrived around the same time, and sensed the huge darkness at the bottom of the cavern. Hades was in the pit trying his best to fight off the opposition. It was still up in the air if he would win, but it was beginning to lean in his favor.
Not wanting to announce her presence to the darkness below, the angel chose to merge with Chris. However, the young adult fought it. She was able to sprout her wings and summon the sword she had been lent for the mission, but the willpower of Chris meant any chances she had of concealing her energies were shot.
She arrived on the scene and tried to help Hades, but her total inexperience with even the lowest ranks of darkness turned her into a hinderance, and its entirely likely its was her fault that Hades lost. The forces they were fighting broke the seal on the Vault, and the pure darkness shot out of its seal and into the world.
Hades fled, knowing he had to reseal Chaos soon or all realities would be destroyed. He was annoyed to find the angel assigned to him, and very pissed that the forces of "so-called light" had ordered her to remain merged with Chris. He knew the dangers of a merge and didn't want the young adult human to face the same fate Thane had faced. The angel took the name Hermia (Hemes, messenger god. Hermia, feminine version. Taken to match Hades' adoption of a Greek diety name)
At one point during the attempts to reseal Chaos, a portal opened. Chaos fled into the portal and Hades jumped in after it. The portal closed before Hermia and Chris could get in, thus causing only Hades and his target to arrive on Dimenstion Island.
Other: Explanation of Merging - A "merge" in the parent story of these OCs is similar to posession. When a demon or angel possesses someone, they simply send their consciousness to the victim. They only have limited access to their powers and can not express any of their physical characteristics. A posession can occur as long as they like. The victim will age normally. This is relatively easy to expel depending on the willpower of the person and the strength of the angel/demon.
A "merge" is a much more drastic version. Basically, the angel/demon send their entire being into the victim, becoming one with them. They have access to all their powers and can express one or more of themselves onto the body. Hades could cause his wings to sprout from Thane, change Thane's skin color, give him pointed ears, etc. In most cases the angel/demon maintains dominance 100% of the time. This form of possession is slightly harder to perform, but nearly impossible to expel. The check and balance to this is that the demon/angel does not want to stay merged for long at all. For too long (it varies) means the two entities will develop a codependency. The angel/demon will require constant exposure to the human energy, and the human will require constant exposure to light (for angel) or dark (for demon) energy. The demon/angel and human will die within minutes of seperating.
The demon/angel can jump to another human and remain alive. Another demon/angel can jump to the human to keep them alive. It should be noted that if a demon jumps to an angel co-dependeant or vice versa, the opposite charged energy will mean instant death for the human.
Another aspect of a merge is physical age. If an adult demon merges with a child they will appear around the age as the child. If a child bodied demon merges with an adult, they will appear around the age as the adult. Even in full demon form, they will just look like a younger/older version of themselves.
Hades allows Thane's mind to take dominance from time to time due to them being permanently merged. They are two seperate entities. If Thane is dominant, the only appearance he can have is his normal human form. If Hades is dominant, however, he can take either full form or any combination there of. Only when Hades is dominant can the scythe be summoned.
In the context of their home setting, an "angel" is a being of light whose appearance is not limited to the standard fair human with angel wings. A "demon" is a being of dark. No religious connections whatsoever. A "devil" is an angel who has been so corrupted with darkness that their light powers are nearly nonexistant but have been replaced with demonic powers. Hypothetically, there could be a "risen demon" just like there are "fallen angels", but it has never occured.
Chaos is a nameless entity and more of a plot point than anything else. Not truly a character ALTHOUGH if one RPing with Hades wanted to have their character manipulated by Chaos, it is perfectly acceptable. It basically just means that their character is being controlled by darkness either totally or partially. For an evil character, it would mean they get a boost to their powers.
Rundown of Chaos
Okay, this has come up in an RP. Chaos is not a character, but a sort of NPC plot point. It is a "presence" that tends to be attracted to aways with concentrations of dark energy. It has the potential to destroy all realities. Basically it can be used as a plot point to corrupt a good or neutral characte or empower a dark character.
These kinds of plots require working out of PM. Chaos is currently involved in a plot with some other players and myself, so it isn't really usable for anything else until later.
