Physical Description
The majority of suzu's hair is firetruck red, of the shade only anime characters can sport naturally. It's actually rather flat, but two thin strips form extremely long bangs. These already thing strips taper down to a point and actually fall directly in front of his eyes. The bottom points reach his upper chest. At forehead level, they start to fade to orange and have faded to yellow (not blond!) by the tips. His hair tapers down in the back, forming a "natural" ponytail. Its thicker than his bangs, but tapers down in the same way. The bottom tip is just above the backs of his knees. About half way down it starts fading to orange, and the last couple of inches are yellow.
He has rather intense eyes, but they are human. The color is a stunning grey-blue. Its not a color that wouldn't occur naturally in nature, but it is rare and would likely be considered a genetic defect. When he smiles they do reach his eyes, but it tends to make him look self-assured rather than happy, although this fits his overall personality quite well.
His muscles aren't terribly obvious, especially considering his outfit. Less obvious than most YYH characters, at least. And I'm talking the more or less normal ones, not the freaks.
The outfit is hard to describe, so I'll be using the following two pictures to draw examples from:
1 - www.freewebs.com/chinesedress/image/frog_closure_chinese_dress.jpg
2 - www.tenmanga.com/chapter/YuYuHakusho40/149480-18.html
Suzu's shirt is similar to the blouse pictured in 1. The collar is straight black though, and the v-shape collar has a black edge. It's also a pullover, not a tie shut as pictured. The sleeves are pretty much the same but a thick black strip of cloth is tied around the edge several times to keep it tied to his wrist, and nothing of the edge of the sleeve shows under. The knot of the tie is at his wrist and the tails of it are jagged like fabric that has weathered many storms.
He has a similar belt to picture 2, and it's positioned just above the edge of the long blouse. It's colored yellow so pale it looks almost off-white instead. It is bunched up and very similar to image 2, except that the hanging fabric extends to the ankles rather than just past the knees. The way it unnaturally floats behind Suzu is the same as in image 2. But the part floating behind Suzu has what looks to be tin bells attached to it every inch or so. They don't make noise and appear to be pure visual decoration.
The pants are similar to in image 2, but are colored yellow. And rather than being attached to a bodysuit they go under the blouse-type shirt up past the tie, although this can't be seen as the blouse-type shirt covers it.
Suzu has socks that are the same extreme pale yellow as the tie around his waist. They come up under his pants so you can't see the top edges. His shoes are black and match the shoes seen in image 2. He has tin bangles around his ankles, they look nothing like in image 2. There are two bangles per ankle and the are criscrossed so that they form an "x" shape in the front and back. They are actually one bangle fused in this manner so that the "x" shape is permanent.
Weapons
Suzu has one physical weapon. It is a short sword with a blade the color of tin but stronger than any metal known to man. Its actually a magical form of demonic tin that a diamond blade couldn't cut. The sword is of the double-edged variety, and one side is slightly jagged. If you were to take a very close look at it you would see it loosely resembles the jagged edge of a lightning bolt, just very small. The hilt itself is blood red and actually is blood, formed into a crystalline like structure just as strong as the blade. Any "flavor" has been removed from it, however, so it wouldn't be appetizing to those creatures that like to drink/eat blood.
The part of the hilt the blade is set into extends to either side and vaguely looks like the flaming wings of a phoenix. This is purely decorational. The blade has the ability to enhance and magnify lightning magic and can absorb fire magic to increase its deadliness. Without fire or lightning to boost it, however, its just a stupidly fancy sword of demonic origins.
The blade actually has a name. It is called the Zhu-que no Ken, or the "Blade of Zhu-Que" (Zhu-Que is the Chinese name of Suzaku, one of the four directional gods. Zhu-Que can also mean "Crimson Bird") A simplifed version of the name would be "Blade of Suzaku", and the form that will be used most often.
Abilities/Powers
Suzu has a kind of soul link with the Blade of Suzaku. He knows where it is at all times and can track it down. He is also rather violent about getting it back no matter how many people he has to mow down to do so. His connection with the blade is so strong that only be sealing both him and the blade can he be sealed. His history explains this a bit better.
Suzu has three main powers. His strongest has to do with manipulating lightning, and to a lesser extent, electricity. He can ad lib any number of techniques with his power over lightning. However, he requires access to outside air to do much beyond a few parlor tricks. These parlor tricks would hurt like hell to a normal human. They couuld be used to kill humans, but its quite the hassle. Rubber is of little defense against this demonic variety of electricity, although it will mute it a little.
His main supporting power is control over fire, and he will fall back on this if he can't get access to outside air. Basically is a demonic version of pyrokinesis, and the flames are fairly accurate described as hell flames. They tend to be hotter than normal flames are. But they won't do near the damage as his lightning if he can use it to its full ability. He is quite fond of his "firestorm" techniques, however, where he combines his power over lightning and fire. He is more than adept and using the powers of the Blade of Suzaku in conjuction with these powers.
His last power has to do with bells. Basically he can set off traditional metal bells. He can use them as focal points to boost his power. He works best with tin bells for some inexplicable reason, and its this reason he got the name "Suzu". It was also his first power. If he's in the mood to show off and look cool, he'll toss some tin bells into the fight and perform "tricks" with them. Extremely painful and very likely deadly "tricks".
He is resistant to damage by fire and lightning, but in no way immune. He can channel his energy to prevent spritual bells from ringing in response to his presence. Note that all these powers require spirit energy. Hes got a bucket load of it, but its still important to keep in mind that if he uses them a lot he can wear himself out.
Skills
Probably the biggest mistake you can make around him is thinking his sword is merely for power amplification. The guy flies straight past master into some kind of god-like tier for his ability with a short swords. He's fast, agile, and rarely misses an opportunity. He is not above using the simple cutting ability of his sword, but he much prefers to torture the opponent after he has cut open a few wounds. He is, at the end of the day, a demon after all.
He doesn't possess anything out of the ordinary for a yokai beyond that, though.
Personality
Suzu is cocky, brash, and self-assured. He also has a very short fuse and a very long memory. The guy holds grudges like you wouldn't believe. On the other hand, he's one of the most trustworthy yokai you'll have have the nightmare of meeting. Its just that he's good at loopholing things. The famous bit about be careful what you wish for? If he could grant wishes and told him you wished you could fly, he'd grant it. Only to let you fall to your death because you didn't say how long you wanted to be able to fly for.
He could write contracts for Lucifer if he wa sso inclined to work with that Western devil. He's good with a sword and he knows it. But his ego sometimes gets him into situations he can't handle and he'll often accept fights that he doesn't have a chance of winning. He often makes the mistake of thinking people will stick to their word. His odd quirk of honor is both a blessing and a curse.
He's rather protective of what he considers his own. Even if the item in question doesn't consider itself to belong to him, if he thinks he owns it he'll carve his way through an army to protect it. In that sense its probably a good thing the Blade of Suzaku accepts him.
He's good about dancing around answers to avoid a lie. But he's also impeccable about repaying his debts.
He's well aware that Suzaku attempted to copy his style. He has quite the hatred for the now-dead yokai and one of his biggest pet peeves is being mistaken for him. Good way to set him off, actually.
Basically, he's got all the cruelty of a yokai but this rather annoying streak of honor and honesty.
History
Well, there's the boring stuff about popping out of wherever yokai come from, gaining his first powers over bells and his early years of controlling lightning and fire, but his story really begins when he caught the attention of the up and coming yokai who called himself Suzaku. This was far before Suzaku became the leader of the Four Saint Beasts Yuukuse would one day kill.
Suzaku had bribed and killed his way into obtaining a demon treasure known as the Zhu-Que no Ken. The problem was the sword seemed to have just enough sentience to it that it could choose to accept or reject as an owner. And the sword refused to link with Suzaku. He suspected it was because he had no power over fire. Actually it was because the sword just plain didn't like him. But going on his misconception, Suzaku took Suzu under his wing and helped him develop his abilities. It was less than a century (a blink in the eye to many yokai) before the sword had linked itself with Suzu.
Suzaku saw that Suzu's powers were quickly overtaking his own, and rationalized it was because of the sword. He challenged Suzu to a death match over the sword. The condition would be that the sword could not be used in the match itself. Suzu had been seeing Suzaku eying the blade for some time and agreed.
Of course, Suzaku didn't honor his word. He got a hold of the sword in the fight, and Suzu used his link with it to channel both lightning and fire into it from a distance. A feat that Suzaku didn't even know was possible. It nearly killed Suzaku. He managed to get rid of the sword and used his clone trick to almost kill Suzu. But he felt that would be to easy for the "ungrateful wretch" and tried to seal him away.
Suzaku began training after supposedly sealing his rival away. He was trying to gain more power over lightning and had even begun to model his attire after Suzu. But the sword still refused to accept him. In fact, Suzaku could tell that it hated him more than before. He stuffed the sword away and began research on how to destroy it. He came upon the information that both it and its owner must be sealed together for the seal to hold. He realized that Suzu had not been sealed about the time Suzu found him.
An epic battle ensued, the kind that would take over five chapters of manga. Eventually Suzaku goaded Suzu into using the sword in the fight, and he used that moment of link to seal them both. The sword had to stay in the "lock" to keep Suzu sealed. He buried him in a grave and stuck the sword into it, presuming that Suzu would stay sealed forever. He died without realizing that one day a chunk of the Makai would be swallowed up by a portal and appear next to a yokai Ninetales in a time of dire need.
The Ninetales, named Ginger, drew the sword from its lock to "win" a pretty epic fight. The seal had been broken. Of course, it would take time for Suzu to get out. And oh boy is he going to be pissed when he finds out that his sword is missing...
Other
Yes, he strongly resembles Suzaku of the manga. Yes, it was intentional. His backstory explains that it is actually Suzaku who resembles him.
I created him to fill a development in one of my RPs. He will eventually be getting his sword back.
