Full Name: Yamiyo Hankou
Nickname: Yami
Apparent Age: 17-ish
Actual Age: 100 years, give or take
Height: 183 cm/6 feet
Weight: 58 kg/128 lbs
Gender: Male
Race: Half Demon/Human
Alliance: Neutral with a moderate lean towards evil
Home: Bazaroth
Franchise: Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM) 3rd Edition Original Character
Physical Description (Human/Main Form)
Yami is tall and extremely lithe, but despite being almost sickeningly skinny has quite the air of intimidation, which would be overpowering to those easily scared. He has fairly ashen skin.
He prefers to keep his eyes hidden behind sunglasses, or anything else that would obscure them. The reason is quite obvious for those who see them, and is one of the two aspects of his demonic heritage he never mastered hiding. The only part of his eyes that aren't inky black are what would be white in human eyes. That part is instead a very dark shade of grey. Somehow these eyes manage to hold a pain to them most of the time.
His ears taper to a point, but aren't elf ears in an anime sense. They are extremely similar to the ears of a Vulcan from Star Trek, although the tips are a touch pointer. As such, he prefers to wear a hood in his outfits. He has accented canines, but its just on the outer edge of normal for points.
His hair is naturally a bit stringy. His bangs hang in front of his eyes a bit, enough that it might make one wonder how he sees. The hair is medium length and has a rounded cut at the bottom, which falls just past the base of his neck. It is dark red, but not quite crimson.
He doesn't really have a clothing style preference beyond wanting a top with a hood so he can cover his ears. He also likes dark sunglasses, especially the type that make it hard to see the eyes from any angle. Both of these are to aid in hiding his demonic traits. He does seem to like clothes that make him an unperson, causing him to blend into a crowd and not be noticed. For shoes, he likes things that are easy to run in, which tends to be tennis shoes.
Physical Description (Demon/True Form)
He has a fair amount of muscle in this form, causing him to look like he works out. Its nothing near body building, however, but is still hard to miss. He has a huge aura of intimidation in this form, although most of it seems to come from his presence as a demon. His skin is the dark grey color of compacted ash.
His ears are longer, but still fall short of many anime elf ears. They are narrow and taper to such a point they almost seem sharp. They slope at a slight upward angle. His eyes look cruel, or merely very dark if he tries to look kind or soft. They are straight inky black, all across, and are slightly more pointed on either side than would be normal for humans. They are known for appearing to catch fire when Yami gets really pissed. His ears are a touch to short for anime elf ears, but are narrow and taper to such a point they almost seem sharp at the ends.
His hair is long, reaching about halfway down his upper thighs. It is a deep crimson red, the color of drying blood. Its rather smooth and quite easily falls into a bishounen hair style. His bangs are flared a bit to the left, and the lowest parts fall just above his eyebrows. Extending from his back are two large draconic wings, the main part being the same dark ash grey as his skin. The membranes are pale grey. Rising from his head are two small bone-white goat horns, stereotypical of many demons.
A thing to note that if he takes this form while wearing a shirt, the wings basically shred said shirt. His larger muscle can put quite the strain on his other clothes, and it is not out of the question for them to shred as well. He has a far more intimidating presence in this form. Most of his body is covered in slight draconic scaling.
Weapons (Both Forms)
Yami keeps no weapons on hand.
Abilities/Powers (Both Forms)
Yami can manipulate darkness, such as shadows, for a range of about 10 metres around himself. He often uses this to cause the shadows to play tricks on his opponent or to make it harder for them to see, often granting him and advantage.
He is capable of drawing power from evil energy in an area, be it violent thoughts or a cursed land. Its for this reason its not a wise idea to fight him on an area known to be cursed. It doesn't really increase his power level, but it makes him harder to keep down than he already is.
Yami is nearly impossible to truly kill. If he dies, his body would basically burst into flame and disintegrate itself. Its the type of flame seen in spontaneous combustion, nothing seems capable of putting it out. A month after that occurs, he will reawaken in some random location with evil energy. Sealing him lasts longer, but keeping him dead would require some occult ritual.
He is able to sense the motives behind someone's actions. This doesn't mean he can tell someone is lying, nowhere near. But he can tell if the person is being kind because they are kind or because they are after something. It helps him pick who to trust. He knows when a person is doing things for the right or wrong reasons.
And woe to those who manage to get him close to death. If he actually gets near death, he is known for flying into a berserker rage. He has no control over himself in this form, but it greatly increases all his skills. It takes the death of everyone in the area or the complete removal of danger for him to calm down. Calming down means passing out, in this case, even if he's in the middle of no where with no one to help him.
His best trait is an attack known as "Herald of the Apocalypse" (see history for reasoning). This nasty little number qualifies as a paranormal (as opposed to magical) attack with unholy power. However, it takes a very large amount of energy to "cast". He quickly draws an inverted pentagram, finishing it with a circle. He can do this while moving. The pentagram alights with what looks like burning blood in mid-air upon completion before raining down glass like shards of what appears to be blazing fire upon the enemy. Anywhere from six to thirty of these shards will rain down, although the more that rain down the smaller they are. They cut like razor blades, leaving fairly jagged cuts and making the wound feel like its aflame. The flame effect stops when the pentagram vanishes/the attack ends, but the wounds remain.
Due to the energy required to cast this, he can generally only perform it twice in a fight. If he is in an area with a lot of evil energy, however, he can cast it up to a mix of six times. After the sixth time, however, he is at a great strength disadvantage, his abilities falling to those of a normal human athlete.
Abilities/Powers (Human Form Only)
This is not a power, but more of a weakness. If Yami gets moderately to severely stressed, he unwillingly changes to his demonic form. When you take into account his claustrophobia, this is problematic. It is not unlikely for him to shift in a crowded elevator, for example.
Skills (Both Forms)
Yami is amazingly good in a fight, able to pick out the foes weaknesses. He has the ability to use just about any well known weapon with enough skill to rank him in the low areas of advanced. He is good at various hand to hand and long distance techniques as well, and will rarely pass up an opening for an attack. He is good at being able to pick out and hit an opponent he can't see for whatever reason.
He has an almost supernatural ability to read his opponent. This confers quite a few strengths in battle. He can guess based on things like body language and stance where a fast opponent is going to end up to the point that he seems to be able to predict their next move. He can dodge attacks in a similar fashion, and he has been known to freak out others in that he is "predicting" their attacks. This skill also means he knows when he is outclassed and will rarely get into a fight that is more than moderately against his favor unless he has to in order to survive.
Interestingly enough, he's got pretty low defense. This is why his ability to get up after being beaten to a pulp comes in handy. Its fairly easy to do a lot of damage to him if you can hit him. Its just he can take a lot of hits. Somehow these traits balance it out so that he's only slightly tougher than usual.
He's also stupidly tough, getting up long after most people would be dead. He can fight with two one handed weapons at the same time, against two different opponents if need be. It still puts him at a disadvantage, but not as much as it would most people.
His almost blurring speed makes him a hard target to hit in a fight, but no where near impossible. He is able to use the inertia and momentum of this speed to jump from wall to wall, allowing him to scale to the top of a building if two buildings are close enough.
The odd way his eyes are formed seem to allow him to see with perfect clarity in the darkest locations. One hundred feet underground and no source of light present, he can see as clearly as he could on the surface in the sun. This includes making out colors.
He is amazingly well versed in just about any form of the occult you'll find on our Earth. Both the negative and fanciful kinds. He can also use most of these, and is quite good at sticking to the "rules". He knows the proper way to summon demons, cast curses, tell fortunes, etc.
While he usually doesn't choose to, he is quite capable of being intimidating. Its almost comical considering his appearance (at least in human from) but he can give a glare to end all glares if he must.
Skills (Demon Form Only)
Those draconic wings aren't for show. He can use them to fly, but they've got a fairly large wingspan and as such he has to have room to fly. The wings are fairly useless in closed quarters because of this, which is why his ability to hook them in a cape fashion like Goliath of Disney's Gargoyles is so very handy.
Thanks to the extra "oomph" this form has in terms of appearance, he can rally people to perform better in a fight. However, its through threats that he does this. Those not afraid of demons for whatever reason don't gain this benefit, nor would people who don't belief his threats. The fact that he doesn't like running around threatening people makes this ability no where near as useful as it should be.
Personality
Yami is a fairly dark individual with a moderately strong dark aura. He values personal freedom and is rather adamant about fighting for it. He doesn't believe in slavery, but has no problem enslaving half the world if its the only way he can be free. He wants to be able to have the freedoms of man, to fight who he wants and spend his time doing things he wants. This expresses itself in the form of mild anarchic tendencies. If he feels the only way to be free is to send the world into a government free chaos of anarchy, he will.
However, if its not interfering with his own freedoms, he is more than happy to try and defend the freedoms of others. He'll fight slave owners and the like as long as it doesn't effect his own "rights". He does have a small level of angst going for him, but its not anything compared to most anime characters. Its a conflict between his human wish for freedom and his demonic desire to enslave. Its a pretty major inner struggle for the man.
And he likes to fight, to use his powers to get what he wants. This does make him seem rather selfish, and in a way he is, but he's just as capable of being kind and helping. His driving motivations seem to be to preserve peoples' freedom as long as he can keep his own. If his own is threatened, however, all bets are off and he will act more like the apocalyptic harbinger he was raised to be.
All of this makes him egocentric and self-centered to most.
On a side note, he's pretty claustrophobic. A normal building makes him a touch nervous, and a really small place like an outhouse is likely to trigger his stress related involuntary change.
History
Yami doesn't really know much of the specifics behind his birth. He's managed to pick up the rough story, though. His mother made a deal with the demons of the universe known as Bazaroth, one of six "primary" worlds connected to his Earth, and one of the two known for meddling the most. She wanted to save someone she deeply cared about. The angel-like beings of Aradia (the other meddling world) known as Asrai learned of why she made the deal and fought to free her, but failed. The woman was spirited away and placed into a breeding program with the demons.
The birthing process was painful and basically tore the poor woman in two, making Yami her only child. From the day he was born, Yamiyo was forced to undergo harsh military training and an even harsher social structure. He was part of a group of half-breed children the demons of Bazaroth wanted to use to bring about the Apocalypse on Earth. For some reason, his half-human nature seemed to over-ride his demonic nurture. It made Yami hate his life and want to leave. Not really to protect the humans, but to be happy like they were. He wanted freedom. This resulted in some balking in his training, leading to being behind in areas such as mastering his human form.
But he let the training occur, waiting for an opportunity. When it presented itself, he rose up against his trainers, spilling the blood of hundreds of demons as he made his getaway. He fled to the Shadowlands, the name the Bazarothan demons gave to the small area that separated their world into the icy and fiery hells. It was there they caught up with him, and for whatever reason got him near death without sending him into a beserker rage. It would be his wish to be safe and free that would open the special portal that took him to Dimension Island.
Other
Yamiyo is an original character taken from the world of Bazaroth. Its one of the main worlds presented in Big Eyes, Small Mouth 3rd Edition's official campaign setting, The Anime Multiverse. It is entirely possible to create a character connected to him through his home world if nothing else by using the BESM 3rd Edition sourcebooks as a guide.
His name roughly means Dark Night Defiance with the surname last. Characters who speak Japanese are more than able to note this.
I have no pictures drawn of him.
