Physical Description
All descriptions are for his most tangible form. Any differences are a direct result of his ghost "powers" and are explained in the abilities/powers section.
Will appears to be a barely transparent (95% opacity for you graphic artists) fourteen year old boy. He is Caucasian, his skin a touch on the pale side. He has green eyes that appear to carry a level of sorrow to them most of the time, even when he's angry or determined looking. His hair is an ebony black and quite honestly looks too black to be natural despite being as such. It's on the long end of medium, and kept in a short ponytail with a brown leather wrap. The tip of the ponytail falls just past the base of his neck.
He has a long light blue wool supertunic (long tunic) on, the bottom falling to about halfway down his lower legs. It is flat cut on the bottom, and a slit comes up to a point just below his waist on either side. The bottom of the tunic has ornate black stitching that seems vaguely celtic. The sleeves are long and a bit on the loose side. The sleeve cuffs hug his wrists rather tightly and have the same ornate embrodery as the bottom. The top has an exaggerated collar with more embroidery. The front comes down to a point about half way down his chest. Two small silver (as in the metal) chains hook the cut closed, the upper chain resting over his collar bone and allowing the collar to open more widely.
He has on black linen pants a bit on the tight side that get loose towards the bottom. The ankle cuffs are tight, creating a slight bag effect just above his ankles. This is accentuated by his fairly tall leather shoes, which aren't quite hard but certainly aren't soft either. The leather is dyed black and grey stitching is in it. The boots cup about half way up his lower leg and appear to be rolled down about an inch at the top. At the front, just above the base of the ankle, the shoes split, and are rather widely split at the top. Three small silver chains, identical to the ones on the shirt except for the sturdier way of fastening, form a sort of psuedo-tie to the boots. The fronts come to point, similar in fashion to cowboy boots.
He has a black leather belt with with silver (as in the metal) rectangular shapes evenly spaced around the hole thing. They are looped over the belt edge and attached in the back. A larger rectangle serves as the buckle, and has a vague lion shape on it, similar to what you might see on a medieval family crest. Both of his ears are pierced and they have a small round gold stud with two increasingly large circles below it in a loose dangling fashion. The bottom stud actually has a sapphire set into each of them.
He is wearing a gold circlet, which while not the "dress" crown, it is what he wore in life to depict his rank. It is rather thin for the most part, but the center has a diamond (like on a card) shaped sapphire set in the center. He has a small emerald set next to the point of the diamond on either side.
Rather well attached to his belt is a sheath. The sheath is made of mostly black leather, but has various jewels set in it and seems to be more for show than actual use. He has a longsword sheathed in it. See the weapons section for a full description.
He also has a pendant hanging from his neck. It hangs from a sturdy but small silver chain. The pendant itself is a abnormally large sapphire set in a jagged round silver setting. The jagged effect makes it look like the rays of stylized sun. The pendant looks the same from the back, meaning the sapphire is set in in a jagged circle frame.
Weapons
Despite the sheath implying the longsword is for decoration rather than use, the opposite is actually true. King William III decided that if he could throw an enemy off guard by making them pass off the ruler's weapon as for decorational purposes, he would gain an edge in battle. This also indicates the sword is a treasure of the Amalthis Royal Line.
The hilt is extremely ornate looking, and spirals around like one might expect a rapier hilt to do. It is made of a silver alloy to appear silver but have a higher level of strength. Various gems decorate it, giving it more of a decorational feel. At the cross point of the hilt is a sapphire a touch smaller than the one in Will's necklace. A sapphire of the same size rests in the pommel, although a silver line from each side of the pommel makes an x-shape of metal at the base of the gem.
The sword, like a standard longsword, is double-edged. It has nothing in the way of fancy names, and was merely referred to as the "Blade of Amalthis" by the royal family. It should be noted that is is the blade the king used to dub knights, and was revered on a more symbolic level than an actual weapon.
The pendant he wears was a gift from his mother, but it seems to have connected with him in a spiritual manner sense his death and allows certain powers. It seems somehow bonded to him and while it could technically be stolen from him, it would take far more effort than one would think it should.
Abilities/Powers
Will has a variety of "powers" that relate to his curent lot in (un)life. The main one relates to his two forms. His "true" form is actually an intangible presence that most ghosts are associated with. He can't be seen except by those with exceptional senses. The most he tends to give is the feeling of being watched, chills, and goosebumps. If one can see him in this form, he is about 85% transparent and seems to have a slightly waving form. The colors are extremely muted and he seems washed out to shades of pale grey.
His other form, the one described in his description, is actually only one he can attain through the odd powers of his pendant. In fact, those with the right kinds of spirit sense can tell that energy comes from said pendant in a pale glow when he takes his more tangible form. This form is visible to those who can't sense ghosts, and is the only form that allows him to reliably physically interact with the world. It does, however, come at the cost of his other spectral powers. This also means he can only use his sword in this form. Interestingly, the sword is completely opaque, unlike his body. Due to being tied to his spirit, it never needs sharpening.
In his true form he can fly, although its probably better described as floating. He can pass through walls and is very insubstantial. He can move far faster in this form, not limited by aftereffects of a mortal frame. His sword is completely useless, although he can draw it out to look intimidating. He can't even communicate with the living most of the time, although if he puts a lot of effort into it he can sometimes get a few words out. This concentration also allows him to move things, and to most they would appear to be floating. But with his tangible form available, the effort hardly seems worth it.
The pendant probably needs some explaining. It basically holds such strong wishes from his late mother for his protection that it could be argued part of her soul resides in it. The link with this is what allows it to cause the tangible expression he can do. It's also what binds him to it. He can sense it's location for up to 100 miles away and is rather protective of it. Its very hard to remove, and can actually be removed when he's in tangible form and accessing its powers. Its kind of like a puppy who gets its head stuck in a tire rim. It can be removed, but its hardly worth the effort. When its pulled away, he is forced into his intangible "true" form.
It should be noted he does not have other common ghost powers. He can't possess people, and he doesn't have the curse of being directly tied to the castle. He could leave if he wanted to, but he feels tied by a sense of duty. Its a strong enough emotional attachment that it seems he is tied there when he really isn't. Oddly, he has convinced himself he is tied to the castle out of some misguided sense of duty.
Skills
The prince has a variety of skills one would associate with his office. He is good at things like diplomacy and law. He can read and write well despite coming from a world where they were not common skills. He's better at latin and Old English than other languages, but the filtering of people onto the island has allowed him to have modern English as a near fluent second language and Japanese as a moderately good third one. His native tongue is latin, but his skill with spoken English is very close and he is good at conversational Japanese. Its not that this is important what with the way the Island works, though.
He's well spoken, and it is possible he would be teased by people from our world for his noble and polite way of speaking. He doesn't use much in the way of contractions.
He is also a skilled fighter and rather strong. His preferred weapon is a sword, and he can wield one with a shield. He can also do other common forms of medieval combat.
Personality
William is a bit angst-ridden. He has the memories of the emotional and physical torture he was forced to undergo in life, and is wracked with guilt over what he let befall his kingdom. He remembers the indescribable pain of being torn apart by dimensional distortions, and is haunted by all these memories.
In manifests in his personality by making him rather serious and somber. He is rather valiant and chivalrous, but the uncountable years he has been around has made him understand perhaps too well his limitations. Thing is, the teen lacks confidence. He can put on a good show about defending the weak and protecting the innocent, but he feels helpless. He is filled with fear and doubt and his surface tough guy personality is all an act.
He's extremely honorable and loyal, not that there exists anyone he can be that way towards. He will always keep his word, but he is good about sticking to the exact letter of things. He's fairly intolerant towards what he deems as evil, but his truer feelings of inadequacy means he tends to be extremely reckless at approaching it or not at all. Poor guy's fairly emo, but with his past, can you blame him? He would have been an excellent ruler and served the people first had the chance been allowed. But as it is, he is focused on the mistakes of the past.
History
Prince William was one of three siblings born in the equivalent of the early middle ages in some incarnation of Earth or another. The middle child was a boy named Robert, and the youngest a girl named Elizabeth. He tended to be treated better for being the crowned prince, heir to the throne, but he had a good relationship with his siblings. He was raised more by his mother than his father, who was usually busy with the kingdom.
When he was three, a mage managed to gain the trust of his father and became the head royal advisor. When Will was twelve, his mother fell deathly ill. She told him that she did not trust the mage and considered her illness to be a result of his powers. She gave him the pendant she considered her family heirloom and told him it would protect him. The moment the pendant touched his hands she passed away. He felt somehow that she was watching over him through the pendant.
At his mother's words, he began to pay closer attention to the mage. He continued to be raised as the crowned prince who would one day take the throne. His father fell into a deep depression on Queen Christina's death, and the advisor offered to take more of the duties off his hands. When Will was thirteen, the advisor made his move. His father was assasinated, and he managed to catch the mage in the act. He was imprisoned in the dungeon of the castle and the kingdom was informed he had died along with his siblings in a brutal attack that killed the royal family.
The mage would often comed own to taunt the prince, and it was revealed that had been manipulating the methods of succession in the kingdom. He was rightfully the new king. He ruled the country of Amalthis with an iron fist, and eventually the people had enough. They had an uprising just past William's fourteenth birthday. He managed to get loose in the chaos of the uprising, and lead the people to try and kill the usurper.
The attack failed rather miserably. The young prince was forced to watch his people killed before him in some kind of twisted method of torture. The acts are what gave the dungeon to the castle the intense level of haunting it has. William managed to get free at some point in a way even he doesn't remember and went beserk on the mage. In an attempt to take down the prince in a "if I can't have it no one can" he unleashed a huge amount of power. It literally ripped the poor teen from limb to limb from spacial distortions, and deposited the castle on Dimension Island. This was a very long time ago, but the ghosts inhabiting the castle didn't seem to surface until fairly recently. Any number of explanations exist for this, the most likely two being they had actually managed some peace or their arrival was significantly delayed from the castle. In any case, William appeared at the same time as the other ghosts, after a rather intense fight involving a boy named Double D.
William's guilt over what he had let befall his kingdom and his attachment to the whole situation meant his spirit lingered. When the castle arrived, it was filled with ghosts. One of which was that of Prince William. There were a number of innocent ghosts in the castle, and he took it upon himself to try and defend them. But the ghosts of those that had delighted in the usurper's acts began to destroy them upon awakening. Only a handful remained when a demon appeared in the castle and decided that it would belong to it.
As it is, only three innocent spirits remain in the castle thanks to the actions of the darker ghosts and the demon known as Belphegor. William has informed the other two that all they can do is listen to the demon and pray for his mercy. When other events effect the castle involving darkness, he makes sure to hide them away and wait for it to pass. And the demon has decided it is "fun" to force the heir to the lost throne to be a lowly messenger boy. As such, Will's current task is more keeping an eye on the castle for the entity he sees as no better than the mage from so long ago.
However, the unexpected arrival of a certain "ghost boy" has set certain events into motion that will be shattering the teen's current afterlife...
Other
Probably obvious, but none of the figures from his history are up for taking as characters without my express permission. Feel free to ask, but don't count on it. This includes the members of his court, the two remaining innocent ghosts, his parents, the usurping mage, etc. Also, those two remaining innocents? They'll be destroyed by the end of Will's first arc.
And the backstory for the castle? Doesn't effect the RP, but I wanted to work it into the character. It should be noted Will technically has no surname, just like most people from his approximate time period, but if he were forced to adopt one it would be Amalthis. Most surnames fromt his time period related to places of birth or jobs anyhow. And Amalthis is a made up name that sounded vaguely fantasy-ish.
And yes, he was totally made to work with Jilak's Danny Phantom. We talked about it and decided it was win. Thanks for asking. Anyhow, there's a chance Will might get some new powers from hanging out with Danny. Part of why I felt the need to point this out here.
The other big point is I'm aware some points might be rather historically inaccurate. I'm not sure latin was ever majorly used outside the clergy, for one. But since he isn't from our Earth, its not an issue. Ignoring the butterfly effect for this, ayup.
I have no pictures drawn of him. Feel free to work with his description if you wish.
