Full Name: Count Gailardia Galan Gardios
Pseudonym: Guy Cecil
Nickname: Guy
Age: 24
Height: 184 cm/~6'
Weight: ~79 kg/~174 lbs
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alliance: Good
Home: Grand Chokmah, Malkuth, Auldrant
Franchise: Tales of the Abyss
Physical Description
Guy is a somewhat tall young man. His complexion is mostly average, although some might say it falls to the pale side just a tad. He is of average weight, but it is due to his lean muscle development. If he didn't have that, he'd be skinny without being unhealthy. He has eyes that are a slight bit more narrow than average, but it is nothing freakish or all that noticable. They are blue in color. His hair has a somewhat spiky cut to it. Its short to the point of there not being enough to put into a ponytail, but its not "very" short. Its colored the literal color of straw.
Guy tends to wear outfits that are easy to move in. He seems to have a certain fondness for vests, and he is usually seen wearing gloves nad boots. Around his waist is a loose belt piece. It hangs to the side a bit, and through it is looped a somewhat fancy sheath. The hilt of the sword kept within is also rather ornate (see Weapons for sword description).
The sheath itself is of specially treated metal and is more comparable to a shield in construction than not. It is metallic silver with traces of blue due to the method of construction. The cap at the bottom comes up a bit on two sides, but there is a deep groove on the other two sides. Both it and the cap at the top of the sheath are gold and have vein like etchings in them.
Around his neck he wears a green choker. Hanging from the choker is a gold round pendant like piece. It has nothing etched into it. It has been noted to resemble a dog's collar by many who see it, although somehow it avoids being a joke among his friends.
Weapons
Guy's main weapon is known as the Jewel of Gardios, although it has been called the Treasured Sword Gardios as well, and is a family heirloom. It is a thin bladed sword, and the sheath Guy uses was custom made for it by Emporer Peony of Malkuth. The blade itself seems to be almost a green toned ice. Held up to the light, one can see through it. However, its just as strong if not stronger than the standard metal blade seen in many weapons. It is double edged, but the design of the hilt makes it more practical to use the "lower" edge.
The hilt is gold in color, but the metal used to make it is far stronger than gold (which is a relatively weak metal). The handle piece is a bit on the short side. The hilt is far longer on one side, coming up in a half circle that ends just before touching the blade. It is spiked, and the spikes can be used to catch weapons to disarm opponents as well as serving as a shield of sorts. The other side of the hilt spikes up and then down a bit, but is smooth. The entire hilt has a slight groove in it.
Abilities/Powers
Guy is able to use various abilities in a fight known as Strike Artes. Some of the arts are more complex and require a greater level of concentration, fitting them into the category of Arcane Strike Artes. All of his Artes can be combined with elemental based magic providing there is enough of the elemental energy in the area to do so. This has become less practical due to the drop of "sound matter particles" known as Fonons in the atmosphere of his home world. It is even less so in other worlds as most don't have a strong presence of Fonons.
If a fight goes on long enough, Guy is also able to draw upon his inner strength to pretty much lay waste to the field. Unfortunately, it requires interacting with the surrounding Fonons and is just as impractical as combining his Artes with elemental energies. When he is able to manage it, however, it involves leaping into the air with mystical flame all around him and crashing to the ground with a swipe of both his blade and sheath. The energy gathered then shoots upward in a bird-like formation. This phenomena has earned the move the title "Razing Phoenix".
Skills
Guy is excellent on the battle field. He uses a style of swordfighting known as the Sigmund style. The Sigmund Style is an offshoot of the far better known Albert style, and is only used by (former) residents of Hod due to the relatively secretist system of belief surrounding the style. It's main focus is to survive a fight, not to win, and as such places greater focus on defense. It involves using both one's sword and sheath as weapon and shield.
He is extremely quick on the battlefield, and many of his techniques involve taking advantage of that speed. While he almost always fights with the Jewel of Gardios, he is also capable of using other weapons. He works best with long and somewhat thin blades such as katana, but he is also capable of using one handed swords. His preference for the Sigmund style does suffer a bit with the latter, but due to the similarities of the Sigmund and Albert styles, he is able to adapt one handed swords into a style more like the latter.
Personality
Guy is a fairly insightful individual. He seems to be able to pick up on what most people are thinking fairly well, but he's also rather good about keeping things to himself. He'll only bring something up if he feels that it needs to be mentioned. He's a good supporter and is more than able to provide emotional backup for people when they need it. He seems to know the right thing to say and when to say it, and it lends the man a certain level of charm.
He has rather good control of his emotions as well. The man does have a fair amount of suppressed rage over certain incidents in his past, but he is able to see that the past can not be changed and work past them. He seems the goofball a lot of times, but he is good about saying what needs to be said.
Guy is, however, rather the pushover. If someone requests (or tells) him to do something, he'll give a few compulsary complaints, but he almost always ends up doing it. This stems more from the fact that Guy actually isn't all that fond of confrontation and finds it easier to go along with things than argue them. However, when he feels the need to put his foot down he will, and his gift with words can turn into a razor sharp knife given the right situation. He's also not afraid to slap someone upside the head when they're being an idiot.
History (ATOMIC WORLD SHATTERING SPOILERS)
Guy was born as Gailardia Galan Gardios, the only male child of the Count Gardios of the island of Hod. He was the second born child of the family, but due to Hod having a patriarchal system of succession, he was given the rights as heir over his older sister Mary. Gailardia had a pretty normal first seven or so years of his life. He was well cared for and had a very close bond with his sister. He also was on good standing with the maids of the household.
His best friend for that era of his life was a boy six years his elder. Vandesdelca Musto Fende was a child of the Fende family that had sworn their sword to the protection of the Gardios house. The two boy spent most of their time together. Vandesdelca told Gailardia that he was a descendant of Yulia, the founder of the religious Order of Lorelei, keeper of the planetary prophecy known as the Score. One of the places Vandesdelca often took Gailardia too was a hidden grove tucked away in a corner of Hod, which was where Yulia was said to be buried.
Gailardia's life pretty much fell apart when a series of political events in the name of prosperity according the the Score lead to the death of his entire family. Mary stuck him in the fireplace of their manor and told him to stay there, that she would protect the heir to House Gardios from the invading Kimlascan soldiers. The soldiers broke into the room she and many of the Gardios maids were in. In panic, Gailardia ran out. Mary ran in front of him to prevent the soldiers from seeing to him, and the poor child was treated to his sister and the maids he considered his friends being slaughtered in front of him. Mary collapsed on top of him after being stabbed to conceal and protect him. Gailardia would cope by blocking the event from his mind and developing a crippling fear towards women. It wasn't the end of the chaos, as shortly after that the island of Hod was destroyed by a power known as hyperresonance.
Gailardia wanted revenge on the people who had done this to his family, and to his home. He managed to get himself a position as a servant to Duke Fabre. Duke Fabre was the one Gailardia had learned had ordered the attack on his family. He took the pseudonym Guy Cecil to conceal his real identity. Guy was shortened from his real name, and Cecil was based upon his mother's maiden name, Cecille. He took the position with the hopes of one daying being able to kill Duke Fabre's family, thus hurting the man the way he had been hurt.
Somewhere along the way he met up with Vandesdelca again. His childhood friend had also taken on a new name, that of Van Grants. Van had managed to gain a high ranking position in the Oracle Knights. He positioned himself as a tutor to the only child and heir to House Fabre, a young boy by the name of Luke fon Fabre. Luke vanished one day when he was about seven, sending the entire House into distress. He was returned a little while later from a place that caused the assumption he had been kidnapped by neighboring kingdom Malkuth. The problem was that he was missing every single one of his memories. Luke didn't even remember how to walk.
Guy helped raise Luke some more, and had a big part in the coddling he received from the people of the manor. He couldn't help but feel there was something different about the younger boy, but he passed it off as his lack of memories. Shortly after Luke learned to talk again, Guy decided to make a bet with him. It involved laying down his revenge plot, although he didn't get into such specifics, if Luke could become a person he could respect. Luke promptly forgot the promise.
Over the next ten years, Guy and Luke grew very close. Guy had begun to question his desire for revenge against House Fabre, as it would involve killing Luke. During those ten years, Luke was not allowed to leave the manor for fear he would get snatched up again. He gerw into quite the arrogant spoiled brat in that time, but Guy saw the good in him and stuck by him as both a loyal servant and more importantly, a good friend.
Van showed up around the middle of the first month in the year to inform House Fabre he had to go away for a while. Luke threw a fit about it, but Van offered to give him some extra training to make up for it. Luke was spazzed, and Guy went with him to the open area in the middle of the manor to watch them train. As they were training, a strange melody flowed through the area. Everyone in the area was effectively immobilized, and most were put to sleep. Luke managed to push past the spell and rushed at the "Mysterious Intruder" that had appeared. Suddenly a burst of energy appeared between the two of them and they vanished.
Guy made a request to Duke Fabre to go and search for Luke. The Fabres were rather well freaked by this point, an understandable emotion considering the last time Luke had vanished. It took Guy some time, but he managed to find Luke in the company of Tear (the one who had shown up at the manor) and Colonel Jade Curtiss of the Malkuth military. He joined the group at that point, saying it was his responsibility that Luke got back to the manor.
A series of events lead to Luke getting asked to go to the mining town Akzeriuth, a town in Malkuth. A poisonous mist known simply as miasma had flooded the area, and Luke had been chosen to represent Kimlasca as a "goodwill ambassador". Guy was told to accompany Luke as his servant and guardian. Tear, Jade, and Van also accompanied them. Van left the group to serve as a decoy while the rest of them took an alternate route. On the way, Princess Natalia, heir to the Kimlascan throne and bethrothed to Luke joined up with the group. It caused a fair bit of chaos as she had been ordered by her father to stay behind. She pulled Luke to the side and whispered something to him, and he surprised Guy and the rest of the group by pulling a sudden about face and saying she should come. The group conceded.
When they managed to get out of the factory, they saw the land ship Tartarus. The leader of the Order of Lorelei, Fon Master Ion, had been kidnapped earlier and Luke rushed towards the ship and the people around it to try and get them to let Ion go. The person that whirled around to face him looked too similar to Luke to even be a twin. They clashed swords while Guy and the others stared on stuck in their own surprised emotions. The other red headed teenager was one of the Six God-Generals, a man known as Asch the Bloody. Luke was shaken up enough by the encounter that he threw up later, but the group moved on towards Akzeriuth.
Several more events transpired. At the group's insistence, in particular that of Ion's personal guardian, Fon Master Guardian Anise whom they had met up with earlier, they took a sidetrip to rescue Ion. Guy had seen the face of one of the God-Generals before, Sync the Tempest. Now that he saw Ion again, something had begun to nag on him. Just like Asch and Luke had been to similar to be twins, Sync and Ion had the same similarity. When Luke asked him about it, Guy brushed the situation away. During the encounter Sync had rushed past Guy, but as far as Guy knew he'd gotten away with a graze.
The God-Generals found the group in the merchant city of Chesedonia. As the group was leaving Chesedonia to try and catch up with Van (which annoyed Luke, who as blaming missing him on sidetracking to rescue Ion), Guy felt a searing pain in his arm and painful memories sprouting up. When Luke tried to approach him, Guy shoved Luke away rather violently. Ion insisted they get as far away from the area as they could, as Guy was under the influence of a Curse Slot. As soon as the ferry pulled away from Chesedonia, Guy's symptoms began to fade.
When the group reached Akzeriuth, the city was in absolutely horrid condition. People were unconscious all over the place, victims of long term exposure to the miasma suffering a condition known as Miasma Toxicosis. During the whole trip Luke had been acting more and more like the world's largest asshole. When he told the group they should avoid the sick cause they might catch something, no one reacted well. Luke sat around doing pretty much nothing while the rest of the group worked to help the town. When Luke found out that Van had already gone into the mines, he insisted the group follow.
On the way to the mines, a soldier of the Oracle Knights approached Tear. He pulled her away to investigate the missing piece of the Planet Score, the Seventh Fonstone. In the mines, the group split up. Luke headed further in to try and find Van. Tear had rejoined the main group with information that the Fonstone had meant to be little more than a distraction. They all realized that something very bad was about to happen and chased after where Luke had gone. They got there just in time for Van to activate a post-hypnotic suggestion, causing Luke to unleash an enormous power before collapsing.
The power did so much damage that it compeltely destroyed Akzeriuth and sent it crushing beneath what was thought by most of the group to be the surface of the planet. Tear informed them it was known as the Qliphoth, where the group learned that Auldrant was in two distinct layers due to actions taking about 2,000 years ago. Guy had utter disgust for Luke at the moment, and the entire group was treating him like dirt. When one considered that by blindly following Van he had cost roughly ten thousand lives and completely destroyed a town, it was understandable.
The group floated across the mud surface of most of the Qliphoth. At Tear's suggestion they headed to Yulia City, a place that tried to lead the world down the path of prosperity listed in the planet's score. When they entered Yulia City, they found Asch who chewed out Luke. There they learned that Luke was a replica, a living copy of Asch. The two fought, and Asch ended up wiping the floor with Luke, who passed out from the exhaustion of it all.
Guy, along with the rest of the group, agreed to work with Asch. Due to the damage Luke had done with his hyperresonance, the Outer Lands that most of them lived on were in danger of falling into the muddy death that was the Qliphoth. Talking with Mayor Teodoro of Yulia City, the group devised a plan to reach the Outer Lands again, a plan that worked.
A lot more things happened, involving several reveals. Things such as Jade having created fomicry and a man named Spinoza helping Van with his plans for a "preservation project". The group realized they needed to check out a place called Ortion Cavern. It was then that Guy said he wanted to leave the group. He asked an annoyed Asch if there was a way back to Yulia City, and Asch gave him directions to Aramis Springs which connected to Yulia City via a fonic passageway known as Yulia Road.
Guy arrived at Yulia Road when Luke and Tear (who had stayed in Yulia City) had gotten part of the way through it. Guy was surprised that Luke had cut his long hair and complimented him on the change. The group had a long conversation as they worked on their way out. He harassed Luke for thinking he shouldn't be friends just because Luke was a replica, not the "real" Luke. As they left the cave they met up again with Jade, who had showed up because Natalia and Ion had been kidnapped.
The group went through a lot more. Van seemed to be trying to start a war with Grand Maestro Mohs (directly below Ion in the Order of Lorelei hiearchy) to fulfill the Score. During that time, Luke had informed Guy that everything that had happened so far had been foretold. Those in Yulia City had allowed it all to happen to fulfil the Score of prosperity, and a war between Kimlasca and Malkuth was the next step in that. A lot more happened in the attempts to stop a war.
The next major event involving Guy occurred just outside the capital of Malkuth, Grand Chokmah. Guy felt his mind being overwhelmed by painful memories and suppressed desires. The only thing he could think about was his long delayed revenge on House Fabre, and he suddenly attacked Luke in an attempt to fulfil that. Guy ended up passing out from the emotional strain.
Guy woke up after a while in the hotel in Grand Chokmah. Ion headed to the hotel and removed the Curse Slot that had effected Guy's thoughts. He explained the situation to Guy, and Guy realized he would have to come clean about his past to Luke. A Curse Slot couldn't control a person, it could only make them act on subconscious desires. And Guy's hatred of House Fabre was still raging in his subconscious. When Luke came to the hotel, Guy told him the full story. He told Luke that he would leave if Luke wanted him too, but it was his with to stay with him.
After a few more encounters, the group made their way to St. Binah. The town was likely to collapse due to what Luke had done at Akzeriuth earlier. As the group were handling an evacuation, one of the God-Generals attacked them. This gave enough time for the town to start collapsing, but Guy suggested that they go to a technological city in Kimlasca known as Sheridan, where they were working on a flying machine. With that, there was a chance they could save the people of St. Binah.
Many many more things happened, and Guy was there for most of them. He helped fight for many of them. Luke was constantly dragging himself down about being a replica, and Guy interjected with how much of an idiot Luke was being as often as he felt he should. Eventually it was decided that to stop Van's plans (which became known as wiping out the entire world to save it from the shackles of the Score), they had to kill Van. The group chased him down in the Absorption Gate, one of the planet's Sephiroth that had originally been used to raise the lands and were integral in lowering the Outer Lands into the Qliphoth safely so they wouldn't collapse like Hod and Akzeriuth had. It was hard for everyone, especially Tear being Van's sister, but they managed to defeat him... or so they thought.
Guy left the service of House Fabre after the events. It was a bit chaotic because he had been offered a vacation to clear his head. He told Duke Fabre that it would be better if he left. Guy knew that once he was out, there was a chance the Duke would not welcome him back in. The Duke insisted otherwise and told Guy he was on an extended leave. Guy accepted the kindness and went to Grand Chokmah. He was recognized as the Count of House Gardios there, although his main duty was taking care of the Emporer's pets. During the following month, he wrote a letter to Luke, but it took some time to get to him due to the interference of Duke Fabre.
When Dist the God-General escaped from Malkuth prison and taken Mohs away, Guy was sent by Emporer Peony and the Malkuth House of Lords to report to Fon Master Ion. He ran into Luke, Tear, and the rest of the group as they were leaving the cathedral in Daath, the headquarters for the Order of Lorelei. He informed the group that they'd only noticed the breakout as soon as they did thanks to a warning from Asch.
Eventually, Van set his plan into full motion and raised a replica of the Island of Hod. He had begun to replicate the land, using quasi-hyperressonance to destroy the old land. He'd created an army of replicas prior to that, and they were having trouble finding their place in the world. Luke had thought he was going to kill himself, earning much anger from Guy, but he somehow survived. Guy figured out that Luke was going to dissappear sometime after the sacrifice of around 10,000 replicas, but he kept it to himself.
Finally, the group raided the flying replica of Hod, which had been renamed Eldrant after the holy land mentioned in the religion of Lorelei. They managed to kill the remaining God-Generals, and took out Van with the help from Tear's full understanding of the Grand Fonic Hymn. The group had to walk away from Luke, who wanted to stay behind on the collapsing island to fulfill a promise. Lorelei wanted to be freed,a nd since Asch had died in the raid of Eldrant, Luke was the only one left able to do so. Guy, Tear, Jade, Anise, and Natalia all watched as Eldrant imploded on itself.
Some time passed. It was on the night of what would have been Asch's twentieth birthday (Luke's tenth) that the group regathered at Tataroo Valley, the place where Tear and Luke had been thrown around three years ago. The ceremony had taken place at Luke's grave, but Tear hadn't attended despite promising too. She sang the Grand Fonic Hymn for Luke, and Jade suggested they leave as the area was dangerous as night. Guy was a bit distraught, although he hid it well. Luke had promised Tear that he wouldn't die, after all. It was just as Tear was leaving that she sensed something. Guy and the others turned shortly after she ran up to a figure that had appeared in the Valley... one who could only be Luke.
About half an Auldrant year passed. Luke and Tear had begun to work to try and figure out how to control his second order hyperressonances, which weren't fading as they should be. The group were still as close as ever, but had all gone on paths of their own. Guy was fulfilling his duty as the Count of House Gardios. When Luke managed to vanish due to accidentally setting off a hyper resonance, Tear somehow managed to get flung to another part of Auldrant... but Luke was nowhere to be found.
To top all that off, his dissappearance had coincided with the destruction of a hidden facility... one for making replicas. All of the data had been destroyed, but several bodies were found in the wreckage. In fact, two people had managed to survive. To say Jade was not happy with the discovery would be putting it lightly. After "handling" the situation (which was how he put it, and the group knew better than to ask) he began doing research into how to find Luke.
To everyone's complete stunned realization, Jade discovered Luke had somehow catapaulted himself across worlds. What made it even more of an issue was there seemed to be a time flux between Auldrant and wherever he had gone. However, there was a steady stream of Seventh Fonons passing between. It took several months of Auldrant time before Jade was able to get any kind of stability on a connection between worlds. And the specifics meant only one person could go at a time. Even stabilized Jade suspected there would have to be a week interval between each person.
Guy was sent first, despite Tear's desire to go first. The reason that was finally accepted was due to the Fon-Tech Machine that Jade had built. It would keep a lock on Guy and his status, and hopefully stabilize the connection once he went through it. Guy was the only one in the group with enough understanding of Fon Machines to manage it. Jade told him to send a message as soon as he got through, and they would work on stabilizing as well as they could. With that, Guy headed after Luke, with no idea where the hell he was going to end up.
Other
Uh... fanon in there. The sheath is something I made up. Peony kind of forced it on Guy, if you've played the game you'll realize how plausible this is. Sorry for the really long history. Yeaaaaaah.

Uh... fanon in there. The sheath is something I made up. Peony kind of forced it on Guy, if you've played the game you'll realize how plausible this is. Sorry for the really long history. Yeaaaaaah.
