THE BREEDER
Full Name: Ruby Akai
Nicknames: Aby (the "y" is pronounced "ee"), Baby (if you want to get punched in the face)
Age: 27
Height: 5'7"
Weight: Average (due to some muscle)
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Home: Hoenn
Franchise: Pokemon (original game based breeder)
Physical Description
Aby laughs in the face of breeder stereotypes. She doesn't look like a mothering type or someone you'd even think was all that good an idea to let near your kids. She has a bit of a "rocker" feel to her. Her crimson red hair is on the long end of medium, but held up with black barette type accesories. The style isn't neat, with the top of the hair sticking up from behind her head. It might resemble a tall bun if it wasn't in such a disarray. She has three normal Pokeballs on the left side of her belt, usually minimized. Her eyes are green.
She wears low cut blue jeans (not faded). She has a stencil pokeball design on the front bottom of her left pants leg, created with lots of metal studs. The design is tilted slightly and part of the bottom is cut off. The jeans hug her body and hips. She has a black leather belt with evenly spaced metal studs on it. The buckle is shaped like a pokeball and silver metal. Her back right pocket has a lip patch on it.
Her shirt is a red tanktop. A black pokeball stencil design is on the front, position smack dab in the middle of her chest (which is quite small). She has a whole bunch of bangles in varying designs on her right lower arm, all being shades of gold and silver in no particular order. Some of them have fake diamonds and such imbedded in them, but they're all quite thin. Together, they all come up to just below her elbow. She has a red fingerless glove on her left hand (no glove on her right hand!) with the folded up part on her wrist colored black.
She has a black leather wallet attached to a chain connected to her belt. Part of why she wears it is for the humorous reactions people have to the chain wallet. Her shoes are the most practical part of her entire outfit. They are black Running Shoes with red soles and strings. In her back pocket she has a black glasses case, and the black sunglasses in them are as like as not to be there as they are on her face. Around her neck is a cheap looking plastic red pendant in the vague shape of stenciled fire. It hangs around her neck by a metal bead chain.
Weapons
Aby doesn't have any weapons. Like most people, she could makeshift weapons. Her "weapon" in that sense is actually a result of her skills.
Abilities/Powers
Aby is a normal human. She doesn't have any special abilities or powers, everything she can do is more of a skill.
Skills
Aby is a Pokemon Breeder. She's not famous, but quite skilled. She does favor quality over press attention or quantity, and she seems to read peoples' reasoning for Pokemon well enough. If you're just after a Pokemon for a Pokedex or collection, she won't work with you. She will help breed for moves or natures, but she won't help with the "Gotta Catch 'Em All" factor so much of her world seems obsessed with.
She's a great Pokemon mediator, often able to get two Pokemon who don't like each other to breed. They do have to have the basic qualification sof being compatible species type, but beyond that she's able to get most pairs breed. However, her people skills are rather fail.
The woman is a drop dead amazing cook, especially in regards to Pokemon food. She is a touch better with PokeBlocks than Poffin of the more famous types, but that has to do with her working with it longer. She's been in Hoenn for some time and had to import her Poffin Maker. Don't be mistaken though, she can cook human food almost as well. Heck, if she hadn't grown up in the world of Pokemon she'd probably be a famous chef. She is very pick about her ingredients (she will look at a basket of berries, pick three, and snub the rest) and her cooking benefits from it. She can also grow berries very well, and her ranch has some berry plots for that purpose.
Aby is also a brawler. She's not to the point that she can take on Hitmonlee or most fighting types, although she could give some wild Machop and such a run for their money. Really, if you saw her fight you'd swear she was a Fighting type trainer. She's agile and can fight extremely well. She doesn't use weapons aside from her body, but she can take up to four people at a time (although that takes a lot of effort and they have to have average or lower than average fighting skills). She can manage in a fight against someone with weapons other than guns, but she won't come out of it unharmed.
Personality
Aby is up front, in your face, and tells you what she thinks with no tiptoing around it. She comes across as rude to many people because she refuses to sugarcoat what she thinks. She likes to say what is on her mind and doesn't care if you do the same. She is known for picking fihgts if she thinks it'll get people to say what she wants.
All this, and the loud way she dresses, belies her kind and warmhearted character. She makes snap judgements on who she likes, and if she likes you she is likely to show you who she really is. She hates injustice and would be the one that would run up to a crime boss and punch them in the face. She's not shy by any means. She is just REALLY into what she believes in and heaven help you if you choose to believe otherwise.
She is able and willing to pull back on her brashness if she honestly thinks you can't take it. She is good at reading people (it helps her to turn down people just after a complete Pokedex) and if she thinks you can take it she will give it all. If she doesn't, she'll often help you out just so you can get to the point you can. Don't tease her about being soft. If you tease, she figures you can handle being teased, and will return it threefold.
History
Aby was actually born in Pallet Town, but her parents moved around so much she lost track. She lived in Pallet, Viridian, Celadon, and Saffron before her parents seemed content to settle down in Cinnabar. She got her first Pokemon shortly after the volcano erupted, as part of helping with the clean up and post-disaster evacuation. She was in the local lab when a presentation was going on when the eruption happened, and she managed to rescue a Bulbasaur from the flow. She was eighteen when that occurred, and actually hadn't had a Pokemon of her own before then.
The Bulbasaur she rescued was taken to the local Pokemon Center, which had miraculously survived the eruption. Come to find out it had a trainer, but the trainer had been killed as a result of the eruption. She took the Bulbasaur under her wing, which upset the parents she was still living with. She pretty much gave them the middle finger and went off without them, heading to Johto.
She had always been interested in breeding, but she began to seriously look into it in Johto. It was in Johto she realized just how shallow people could be. Ivy, the name she'd been told her Bulbasaur had, was constantly requested to be bred. Ivy was a rare Pokemon, and of an uncommon gender. The shallow "Gotta Catch 'Em All" requests almost dissuaded her from being a breeder, but the Day Care couple she had become friends with convinced her to stick with her plans.
Aby left for Hoenn as soon as she learned of it. The Day Care couple from Hoenn had chosen to move there as well, which stunned Aby. What stunned Aby even more is that they offered her the second of two plots of land they had purchased.
As Aby was setting up her business, she met a trainer named Prue. At first they butted heads quite a bit as Prue tried to be nice and polite and Aby... tended not to be. However, they ended up parting on good terms. They still communicate via e-mail and video phone, but they haven't actually seen each other since Prue moved to Sinnoh (and then later returned to Johto).
The last communication she'd had with Prue was over video phone. Prue had been spending time training around Blackthorn and had managed to finally get all eight of the Johto badges. She was headed to Victory Road to earn the certification she would need to compete in the Johto region tournament. Aby had wished her luck and continued her work in breeding. It was about two weeks later when she was out trying to get some berries she'd manage to run out of when she heard a scream something like glass shattering. Ivy tried to grab her with her vines, but they both ended up falling through the portal that had mysteriously opened up near them. Both she and her Venusaur fell through... and would show up on Dimensional Island.
Other
It should be stressed she is from a generic game canon world, the same one Prue is from. So the same rules about not knowing Ash/Satoshi and the main characters being generic apply. She does know of Brock (he is a Gym Leader after all), but she doesn't actually know him. And it isn't the one from the anime.
This is a revamp + reboot with permission of the person in the plot she is involved in. I want to throw her at the anime version of Brock. XD
She has no connection to Ruby of the manga, or even the game by the same name (living in Hoenn is partially a joke towards that, though). Her original incarnation as a smartass thirteen year old trainer was created before even Gold and Silver were announced IN JAPAN.
THE POKEMON (FOR STATISTICAL INFO, SEE AN ONLINE POKDEX)
- Ivy the Venusar -
Height: 6'4" (small-ish for a Venusaur)
Weight: 210 lbs.
Gender: Female
Favored Attacks
Frenzy Plant, Sweet Scent, Take Down, Secret Power
Non-Standard Attacks (taught through T/HMs or tutors)
Frenzy Plant, Secret Power
Skills
If Ivy gets really hurt or weakened in a fight, she can attack with more force providing she is using a Grass type attack. The indicator that this "power up" has occurred is that the flower on her back will seem to grow a bit larger. This is how her "Overgrow" ability expresses itself.
Personality
Fiercely loyal to Aby, but rather asocial otherwise. Ivy was extremely close to the trainer that died in the eruption at Cinnabar. In fact, it took a large amount of effor on Aby's part to get the Bulbasaur to accept her. Ivy does not get along with most people and those she does have generally worked their butts off to get on her miniscule "good side". She doesn't run around attacking peole, but she will glare at or ignore them unless Aby tells her not to. She would glady protect Aby with her life, and without prompting. She never wants to feel the pain of losing a trainer again. She seems rude or curt to many people, but its just a fear of making friends only to lose them.
Capture History
Ivy was the first Pokemon Aby had that could technically be called hers. Her parents had a few Pokemon, but they were more like pets than anything else. Aby rescued Ivy around the time the Cinnabar Volcano erupted the first time, going out of her way after fleeing the Lab to rescue the then Bulbasaur. She stayed at the Pokemon Center as research was done on finding the Pokemon's trainer, and the news wasn't good. She insisted she take the Bulbasaur and a transfer not unlike a trade was made. When Aby's parents told her to get rid of the Bulbasaur, Aby reacted by packing her bags and moving to Johto after a short stay in Saffron to get a pass for the train.
- Bobby the Ditto -
Height: 1'0"
Weight: 8.7 lbs.
Gender: N/A (referred to as "he")
Favored Attacks
Transform
Skills
You can't get this guy to stay still. Electricity will still hurt him, spores will still bother him, but he seems incapable of paralysis. This is how his "Limber" ability expresses itself.
Presonality
Well... he's a horn dog. Bobby really likes to get it on. There are those that would make the mistake that he is a dream Pokemon for a breeder, but its more of a living nightmare. He's almost impossible to control when other Pokemon are around, and its bad enough Aby doesn't like to let him out of his Pokeball when others are nearby. He won't bother humans or non-Pokemon animals, which is a huge blessing. He's not really good in battle, but he's second to few in his abiilty to use his Transform ability. He can act the "doppelganger" to just about anything Aby might need. However, the instant a Pokemon appears, he tends to lose his cool. He has been knocked out by more than a few Pokemon he wouldn't take "no" from.
Capture History
Aby obtained Bobby in Johto. A trainer came in requesting she breed a Pokemon for him, as a gift for his sister. When Aby mentioned she didn't have any Pokemon compatible at the time he gave her a Ditto. Surprised at this, Aby was willing to give it a try. She had to forcefully separate Bobby from the other Pokemon. When she called the trainer back to report on how it wouldn't work, he seemed more than a bit stressed and told her that he couldn't take the stupid thing anymore and that she should release it. Aby felt bad for the Ditto and chose to keep it herself.
Other
Bobby can mimic the sounds of other Pokemon, but not humans. If he is forced to speak while looking like one, he'll end up revealing himself. Or seem more than a bit stupid to people who don't know about the Ditto species.
- Vlad the Umbreon -
Height: 3'2"
Weight: 55 lbs. (a little thin for his species)
Gender: Male
Favored Attacks
Bite, Pursuit, Confuse Ray, Mean Look
Non-Standard Attacks (taught through T/HMs, tutors, or via breeding)
Endure, Dig
Skills
If an opponent inflicts some kind of status on Vlad, they will in effect by inflicting it on both of them (unless they have an ability or type that prevents it). Put Vlad to sleep, fall asleep. Poison him, get poisoned. If an effect occurs out of battle or if someone touches him before it is cured, they will get the effect as well. This also applies to humans! This is how his "Synchronize" ability expresses itself.
Personality
Vlad likes to bite people. A lot. It was his favorite move as an Eevee, and it remains his favorite move as an Umbreon. It isn't always aggressive, as he enjoys doing it in play and as a sign of affection. The issue is he doesn't seem to know how to hold back, and it tends to hurt just as much however he means it. It is not uncommon for him to draw blood. He doesn't like bright lights of any sort (sunlight, flashlights, electricity. All fair game). He also has a slight issue backing down, never giving anything a half-try. Its all or nothing for him. If he decided he could fly he'd keep trying until he cracked his skull open. He's really quite affectionate as well, making his biting a problem. He bites people he likes. It is not unheard of for Aby to muzzle him, which he despises and will run around rubbing his face on the floor over. Overall though, he's pretty easy going. He just needs to learn people don't like getting puncture wounds from his teeth.
Capture History
Vlad was hatched from an egg. Aby is capable of breeding Pokemon for herself, and in fact all the Pokemon she owns are bred aside from Bobby and Ivy. So there's nothing all that flashy here. His mother was in Contests, but Vlad seems more inclined to battling.
Other (all of Aby's Pokemon)
For some reason, the magic of the Island does not allow Pokemon from Prue's homeworld to speak normally. Instead they say their name like always. Animals, Pokemon, and those that can understand animals can understand the Pokemon.
Aby's Pokemon can use all of their standard attacks (and any special ones) in any non-league sanctioned fight. They do each have their preferred moves, and Aby is good remembering move names. Vlad is the only Pokemon she hatched though, so he's the only one with an egg move.
