Weight: ? (well balanced)
Gender: N/A
Race: Semi-Sentient Magical Sword

Franchise: The Legend of Zelda
Physical Description
The Master Sword appears to be a simple longsword. Throughout the history of its uses by the Hero spoken of throughout legend, it has not always maintained an identical form. It has always been a longsword, but its balance and appearance manifestations have seemed linked to the Hero rather than the blade.
In its current incarnation for the reincarnated hero of a modern age, it's closest past comparison is of the blue hilted variety. However, the hilt is of a slightly different shape, a bit flatter than is norm. It also has a gold colored cloth wrapping. The wrapping is of a criss-cross shape and resembles what one may see on a katana or non-practice kendo blade. The diamond gem set in the blade is more like the one used by the Link made to rescue seven maidens in design and location, but it is however a ruby red rather than gold. The gold embelishments remain the same as the ones seen on the standard "blue hilt" variety, and the blade is of the usual shape with the triforce pointed towards the blade.

Abilities/Powers
The Master Sword is the sword forged to combat evil, the "holy avenger" of Hyrules past. As such is gains extra "oomph" against that which the golden goddesses of the fallen kingdom consider evil. It has the ability to harm evils that few if any other weapons can damage. It is a weapon of light.
It is also sentient in its own right. Possessing of a spirit, it chooses its master. Only the Hero may wield it, and only if he is worther of said title. It could be stolen from the Hero, but it would lose all magical powers. When sealed by any means, only the Hero can free it.
It can take and amplify light energy, but it is of its own choice.

Personality
The Master Sword is a virtuous holy blade. However, it is not soft and takes no prisoners in regards to its opinions. It rarely speaks, so much so that it is not even considered a sentient weapon in most if not all of the Legends of Zelda. It is usually simply seen as a blade of magic. It rarely admonishes, but will offer its services as a being when it truly deems them needed. It will guide as well, but once again, only when it deems them needed. It despises the King of Evil and defers to the Princess of Destiny.
History
The Master Sword was wrought many centuries ago, and the specifics are likely recorded in one of the Legends of Zelda or another. It's purpose came to be to smite the King of Evil that arose in Hyrule past. It has served as a key, a holy blade, and a destination for many a quest. It has always judged its potential bearer, although at some times it was more obvious than others.
When Hyrule fell, it played a key part in the first true death of the King of Evil. With the heir to the throne injured, it spoke to the Queen and Prince Consort that had once again sealed evil in their lifetimes as the Princess and Hero. They chose to make a pact, and put their lives into creating the power needed to kill the King of Evil. When the power destroyed part of Hyrule Castle, it seemed lost to history.
Even the Sheikah and the now immortal crowned prince of Hyrule could not keep a fix on it. They were merely able to keep track of what might be needed to retrieve it when the time would come. When the Hero, the Princess, and the King were all drawn to another world, the need was felt by the blade and it drew itself across the barriers of the dimensions. Releasing an energy to protect itself, an area of Void City's woods became quite like the Lost Woods of various eras of Hyrule's history. It would only allow a select few to reach it...

NN1 said I had to treat it as a canon if I made it sentient, so I am. I glossed over the specifics of its creation cause damned if I know how Skyward Sword is gonna screw things up. I've had the idea of it being sentient since before even Twilight Princess, though.
Uh, if someone wants to use the Master Sword for their Link, all I ask is you ask? This is different enough to probably qualify as AU. It treats all the games as a sort of canon, though.
I've got no pictures of this variation on the sword.
