Full Name: Kaywinnit Lee Frye
Nickname: Kaylee
Age: ~21
Height: 5'6"
Weight: ? (light)
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Alliance: Neutral
Home: Serenity (Firefly Class Spaceship)
Franchise: Firefly/Serenity
Physical Description
Kaylee is a somewhat tall young woman with somewhat fair skin and a fairly average build. She has long slightly curled (as opposed to curly) reddish-brown hair that often looks in need of a good combing. It comes down to the base of her shoulder blades, much of it often in front of her shoulders. She has dark brown eyes and is almost always seen with a smile on her face.
She tends to dress in clothes that are practical but with a whimsical feel, such as flower prints. She'll wear an ugly old jumpsuit when the situation fits, though. She's got quite an attraction for pretty dresses and other such girly things as well, but she tends to be far more practical than that. Won't stop her from being upset if she can't wear a pretty dress, mind you.
Weapons
Kaylee is not generally armed. When she is it tends to be as the situation demands and it usually a small pistol. She's not a bad shot "per se", but she is outclassed by most of her fellow crew members. Whatever Kaylee has tends to be grabbed in the heat of the moment.
Abilities/Powers
Kaylee doesn't have any abilities and/or powers, although some would say her Skill with machines borders this territory.
Skills
If remaining cheerful is a skill, Kaylee has it. On a more serious note, the girl is a natural with machines. She seems to instinctively know what makes them tick and when asked about it claims that "they talk to her". She tends to view machines as living things and considers Serenity as much of a person as any of her crew to the point of getting grumpy when someone insults the Firefly class starship. The skill is strong enough that put her in a conversation with a bunch of mechanics and she will wipe the floor with her cheerful dispensing of knowledge
Personality
Kaylee is a cheerful optimistic kind of gal who tends to function as a reminder that things aren't all bad to those around her. When Kaylee gets depressed, things tend to have hit the fan ten minutes ago. She is bubbly and sweet. You'd never realize she's basically a criminal for her personality. She enjoys life and seems almost a little kid at times.
She is into machines. She is really really into machines. She pretty much fangirls them and can dominate a conversation should technology come up. She tends to have a knowledge of how things tick and likes to learn how they do if she doesn't naturally know. She considers machines to be people as much as the human being next to her and tends to take great insult when you insult on of her "friends".
At times Kaylee seems unable to cope with the necessities of what she does. She also riles up kind of easily when people are blind about her feelings. Kaylee is not one to be on the front line in a battle, but instead suited to morale and support, particularly in regard to maintenance.
History
Kaylee was born about twenty-one years ago and had a fairly normal life to her later teens. She was always good with machines, being able to figure out the way even foreign ones worked. At some point or another she found a guy working on an engine and proceeded to make out after a conversation in which she revealed that she really liked machines. The owner of the ship said engine was on came in and proceeded to chew out the mechanic, who made up some bullshit excuse about it being complicated. Kaylee piped in and said that it really wasn't that complicated, fixed the problem, and promptly got hired with the guy she'd been necking being fired. Thus began her stay as the mechanic and engineer of the Firefly class starship Serenity under one Captain Malcom Reynolds.
Years later, Mal would decide that if they were going to keep Serenity in the air they needed to take on boarders. This ended up with several key characters. The Shepherd (read as: Priest) Derriel Book and the rather dapper young doctor Simon Tam were among them. The situation that resulted in that lead to the exposure of Simon's sister and planetary government known as the Alliance runaway River. The end result was Book, Simon, and River becoming part of Serenity's crew.
In the continuing efforts to keep River free from the Alliance, several things transpired. Eventually Mal pretty much kicked Simon and River off his ship. It didn't last long, and River's psychic abilities lead to the discovery of a planet the Alliance had been trying to keep under wraps, one "Miranda". The situation leading to this and the discovery of the truth behind the menace known as "Reavers" would end up costing the lives of Book and Serenity's pilot, Wash.
Eventually, the crew of Serenity put out the truth of the Reavers to the world. Despite this, the Alliance was strong enough to deal with it. After a while, everything fell back into more or less normal circumstances. River became the pilot of Serenity in Wash's place, and things settled down. The sexual tension between Simon and Kaylee had resolved itself at the end of the adventure involving Miranda, and the two were pretty much a couple (despite Mal's dislike of shipboard romances).
At some point, Mal and his crew were offered a job that fell into their oft visited category of less than legal. Said job involved raiding the Alliance facility of a core planet, and would have been laughed off if it weren't for the ludicrous payment being offered for it, which should have probably been a flag in its own right. The group managed to get to the room where the device they were to steal was at, but Jayne managed to get Mal pulled through an odd portal like device. His "public relations" man Jayne managed to get back out, but the group only got away because of River's piloting.
When Jayne reported that Mal was probably dead, there was the first sparks of tension. As first mate, Zoe took command of the ship and got them to where they were supposed to receive the payment. It went rather badly, and that lead to planning the next course of action. She decided they needed to confirm if Mal was dead. This lead to the entire gorram ship getting taken in by the Alliance and the whole crew getting locked up... including River being pulled away elsewhere.
The group managed well enough to get out, and Zoe insisted that they rescue River. She was their pilot, and the only real chance they had of getting away. Simon had to be convinced they would do so, as well, as he made it clear he was leaving the group if they didn't. Jayne was throwing a fit about it, but he managed to get dragged into it as well. Several "complications" later lead to Zoe and Kaylee getting separated from Jayne and Simon.
With no knowledge of what exactly is going on, Zoe and Kaylee manage to get to an exit. Kaylee is worried to the point of panic about Simon, and Zoe realizes that she is going to have to leave her somewhere if she intends on going back to rescue the others. She manages to shove Kaylee out and shout for her to get somewhere safe before the place reaches its final stages of lockdown. Kaylee tries to wait patiently but after several hours it becomes clear that no one is coming out. Her attempts to get in contact with the crew and eventually Serenity end up getting her knocked out...
Other
Everything before post-Serenity information is canon. Just who knocked her out and what happened to her is going to end up plot based.
