Atem had been keeping an eye on Eriol as they walked. By the time they reached the hospital, he had no doubt about it. The doll was aware of his presence, and as more than a resident of the puzzle.
"Partner, he knows I'm here."
Yuugi paused. They were a few feet from where the key had been dropped. He turned towards the "empty" space beside him and sent his thought.
"What?"
"You can speak aloud. He knows I'm here," Atem replied.
Yuugi turned towards Eriol. He'd been trying to pass off the mumblings as grief or something else, but if the doll could see his other self, there was more than met the eye when it came to Eriol. Yuugi felt rather confused, but looked at Eriol, hoping to see some indication that his other self was mistaken...
The key lay where it had been dropped next to the charcoaled and still damp area of the hospital.

Eriol kept staring at the two of them with the same unchanging expression.
"I was right, wasn't I? He's not visible to normal people. But I can see him. Who is he? Who is that boy who's following you around?" The doll looked like he was suspicious of the two. "A ghost? Or is he... a Creator? Like mine?"
He held Kerro closer to him, and seemed to be hearing something from the doll, though it was likely a hallucination on Eriol's part, especially since he appeared to be breaking down in more ways than one.

This was not a situation Yuugi was used to. The only other person that was fully aware of both minds... no, that wasn't true either. Even Bakura's "other self" had only learned of Atem due to a Yami no Game he had pulled. Atem saw his partner's flustered state and chose to take the explanation upon himself, "I am Atem. The word ghost is insulting. And I am no "Creator". However, I can summon ka to fight if the situation comes to it."
Yuugi saw Eriol. The more they talked, the more damaged he seemed to be. He held his arm out in front of Atem, "The other me, I don't want to hurt him... Are you going to be okay?"
Atem found his partner's concern for the doll a little worrisome. It was obviously insane and could likely fly into attack mode at any moment. But after the earlier events, he wouldn't express himself unless Yuugi asked him to. Yuugi looked sincere in his question.

Eriol stared at Atem, letting the words sink in. "A 'ka?' I'm sorry... I can't speak egyptian like my brothers, so I have no idea what you're talking about." He tilted his head to the side before straightening it again. "I'm just a prototype. Not like Kerro here." He lifted the dead doll again.
At Yuugi's question, he gave a slight smile. "I'll be just fine."

(OOC: I have no idea if the word is used anywhere near properly. I just snagged it from the anime. XD)
Yuugi was a bit creeped out by the doll. The comparison to lugging around a corpse was a bit strong for his tastes. He swallowed hard, "A-a ka is basically a spirit. Right, the other me?"
Atem nodded, "It's an over simplification, but its enough for the situation."
"The key should be around here somewhere..." Yuugi said as he looked around. He was trying to divert his attention away from "Kerro".
Atem was trying to figure out how Eriol as a prototype. Had this "creator" person been trying to create life...? He saw no reason why Eriol would be considered incomplete for what he was. Unless he had been damaged before they fought. The smile was a bit disconcerting as well, but rather than getting fearful as his partner would have, he stood his ground.

(I think that's correct. And ba's the bad spirit... right? *been too long*)
After gently placing Kerro on the ground, Eriol began walking around, searching for the key as well. The currently living one of those two boys was afraid of him. The ghost one was treating him like a threat. As it was, right now, finding the key was more important.
Since he had no idea where they key would be, Eriol ended up going into the smoldering remains of the hospital, despite the danger to his wooden frame from any fires that might spring up again. Because he couldn't smell, he had no idea that he was coming even closer to the smoldering corpse of the boy from before until he'd literally tripped over the body.

Atem watched as Eriol wandered into the basement of the building. He "tsked" to himself and turned away. Yuugi had missed Eriol wander off, and the doll was already descending into the ground when he realized where he was going to. There wasn't time to get his attention. Yuugi frowned, depression covering his face. "You okay, partner...?""I-I don't think I could take it if he... you know..." Atem nodded. Yuugi half expected the doll to bring out the body due to its apparent lack of grasp of his human life. Atem saw it doing it just because of how off balance the doll was. "You want me to take over?"Yuugi shook his head, "I-I'll be fine. Hey, isn't that the key?" Atem turned to where a small spark had just risen up from the ground. It faded quickly, but the glint of bronze remained. Yuugi walked over to it, but hesitated as his sore dominant hand hovered above it. Atem pointed to his deck pouch and Yuugi nodded. The teenager pulled five cards and held one up in the air. It certainly wasn't the flair of tossing the card onto the field Atem usually used. A yellow machine like "creature" appeared from the light that shot from the card as it vanished. A similar light came from his deck and caused a new card to appear in Yuugi's hand. Yuugi pointed to the key, "Yellow Gadget, can you pick it up for me?" Yuugi hoped that if the key sparked, it wouldn't harm the monster. Being as how that it was a machine it was likely it would only strengthen the gadget rather than harming it. He was worried that it would have the opposite effect, however, but with the cards in his hand this was his only option. Besides, Yellow Gadget was a card he preferred and had placed into the deck he and his partner shared himself. The Yellow Gadget complied and picked up the key with ones of its large hands. Yuugi turned to where he had seen Eriol disappear, "Doll-san, we found your key!") (OOC: This is actually a reference to Yellow Gadget being one of Yuugi's cards in the final fight of the anime between Atem and Yuugi. You know, not that it's important to know that. XD But it's a fairly clockwork looking creature, as well, so it might get on Eriol's nerves. XD Here's a page with all its info, including a picture: yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Yellow_GadgetOn a side note, I plan on starting to include honorifics for Yuugi and Atem's speech. I'm not sure why I haven't been before now, really.)

Eriol gently picked up the dead body of the boy and looked the singed body over. It was almost impossible to tell that this was once human. But he knew. It had to be human. It was the way a human should be: unrecognizeable and dead. The same way he'd left them before the Creator stopped him.
Yuugi's voice caused the doll to stop reviewing old memories, and turn to leave. He meant to put the dead body down, but found he couldn't. Now the gears in his hand jammed, and his fingers were stuck holding onto the singed body. This was a problem. Doing what he knew as a response to this problem, Yui took the key and froze the arm, and then smashed the key down on the arm, snapping it at that point. He was still holding onto a roasted arm, but at least he wasn't lugging around a dead body anymore. That wouldn't last long of course. He would still keep his dear brother with him, for replacement parts.
Upon walking out of the underground area, Eriol saw Yuugi, and calmly walked over to take back his key. "I want that back now." It was said in a way that sounded like a threat.

Yuugi swallowed hard. The way the doll had said that almost sounded like it was going to attack him one it got the key back. Still, it was the doll's key, and there seemed to be an attachment to it the way he and his other self, and indeed all Duelists, were attached to their deck. He drew another card and nodded to the Yellow Gadget.
The clockwork creature extended its arm and opened the palm. The key lay there, still sparking a little. It wasn't enough to effect the Yellow Gadget, even on the half chance electricty would harm it more than usual. Yuugi glanced at the cards in his hand, wondering if he should have placed a monster in defense just to be safe.
Atem stood with his arms crossed, just as worried about a "surprise" attack as Yuugi was, just showing it in his own way. He had noticed the missing hand on the doll but chose not to ask, having his own suspicions due to the bit of ice still remaining on the creature's wrist.

The moment Yellow Gadget held out the key, Eriol snatched it back, and began examining it carefully. The sparks coming out of the key were starting to singe his hand, but he didn't seem to be bothered by it. After pulling off the bronze shell, Eriol found the problem.
"Several components on the inside have been broken, including the size changing mechanism. The broken piece of the size changing mechanism was also what controlled the electricity conductor, as one can only use the electricity conducting powers of the key when in full size," Eriol said in a monotone. This likely wasn't him actually speaking, but rather a form of "programming" kicking in to give a full error report so it could be fixed by someone.

Yuugi found himself having trouble following along with Eriol's explanation. It barely connected even for Atem, who had to run the sentence through his head a few times. Either way, it was nothing the two teens could handle. Yuugi wondered if Kaiba could have handled it, he seemed good with technological things, but the thought frame was rather dead end. Kaiba wasn't in this world. Of all the people he and his other self had met, none of them seemed particularly capable of fixing it.
Atem cleared his throat. He had picked up that Eriol was in some kind of auto mode and wanted to make sure the doll heard him, "Are the powers magic or science based?"
Yuugi's eyes widened. Atem had a good point. Kaiba would be the last person they should go to if the key was based around magic. He'd never been very accepting of the paranormal... to put it mildly. Yuugi drew another card and held one to the side with is back facing Eriol. An unseen presence appeared next to Yellow Gadget. About all that could be known was that it was a "living" creature and not some magic or gadget.
(OOC: Due to the way the game is played, the position of a card reveals if its a monster or a trap/magic card. So I figure in a "real" fight, it would be evident if the entity has a soul or not. Hence why Eriol, if he was paying any real attention, would know it was a monster.)

Still in auto-report mode, Eriol looked up at Atem.
"The Bronze Clockwork key is made up of both magical and mechanical components," he simply replied. By now, he started coming out of auto-report mode, and started talking normally again. "Creator, I thought you knew that already--"
He suddenly realized who he was talking too, and not only that, but he could sense another presense besides the ones from before. It was hidden and faint, but it was there.

Yuugi had just stared as Eriol rambled on in his monotone voice, wondering if the doll had broken again. Atem had been waiting patiently, although he had noticed the slip up of calling him "Creator" as Eriol. Yuugi had drawn another card at about that time and was carefully lifting one up to "cast" when he hesitated. Eriol had glanced at where he had set Queen's Knight. It was a little surprising to the teen that the doll had been so wrapped up in his malfunction that he had missed that. Yuugi finished what he was doing, and a green clockwork like creature appeared next to the hidden energy, and a stream of light caused a card to appear where Yuugi had pulled the Green Gadget's card from. Yuugi lifted another card and some energy washed over the area. What exactly it was, it was quite unclear, but the energy was different than the first presence had put off. The teen was feeling rather intimidated by now, and for what Eriol had seen before, Atem was being strangely quiet. It looked more than a little like he was observing Yuugi's actions. "I don't know of anyone that can help you if its got both magic and science..." Yuugi said, "But who is this Creator? I mean, if you don't mind me asking!" Yuugi didn't want to be rude, and while it wasn't apparent, it was for more than just his growing worry about what the doll was going to do. Yuugi was just that nice. (OOC: Yuugi played a trap card, Holy Barrier - Mirror Force. He does not have to activate it, and likely wouldn't with three monsters on the field for protection. He summoned Green Gadget, the set card is Queen's Knight. The two Gadgets are in attack mode, meaning if they get attacked Yuugi will take the remainder of the attack they can't block. Queen's Knight is set in defense, so even if she is defeated Yuugi won't get harmed. However, if an attack is weaker than her def, Eriol will take the difference in damaage instead. All rather arbitrary, trying to put numbers on this sort of thing, but you've RPed with Yuugi/Atem before. X3 So yeah, probably explained more than I needed to. Eriol turned around and walked a couple steps before responding.
"The Creator is my Creator. I was the first creation," Eriol said, still looking over the key. There didn't look like it was possible to fix it. Most of the components inside the key were foreign to Eriol, and while he could do small repairs, he couldn't fix the whole thing. The key was ruined.
He picked the silver key back up again, holding both the bronze key and the silver key in the same hand. There was frost forming on the outside of the silver key, and there was a chill from the key itself.

Yuugi finally noticed the missing hand as he felt the wind send the chill from the silver key his direction. He shuddered a bit and walked forward while drawing another card. He didn't want to do anything with the cards but was a bit worried about sending any to the graveyard.
"Are you going to be okay now? I mean, aside from the key..." Yuugi was trying to come up with a suggestion for how to fix it, but they were all falling flat in his mind. If the doll couldn't come up with a solution, he had no idea what to do.
Atem sensed Yuugi carefully choosing words. There were questions he wanted to ask but wasn't asking. It wasn't that hard to see the kinder teen was holding himself back. Questions like, "How many creations were there" or "Is that doll one of those creations" and the like were all on the tip of his tongue. It was a solid mixture of fear and politeness that prevented him from asking.
The unseen living presence didn't move with Yuugi, but the two gadgets did. The unseen magical presence was still in the area, but it had not revealed itself yet.
