It was quite possible the area was more crowded than the station. Atem wasn't perturbed by this, but it was an observation. Tokyo at rush hour was a fair comparison.
"You know your way around better than I do, so I'll let you lead the way to the back room." Atem told Minato.
Atem was a little concerned about the "forbidden" aspect of the area Minato had mentioned. He knew what it was like to have a sacred place violated. And often places aspoused to be forbidden held special significance. He would make sure to look for any signs of sacred markings. He refused to sink to the level of a common tomb raider or anything of the sort.

(*pokes* I'm gonna ask NN1 to move this to the Abandoned Hall subboard when she's on if that's ok with you... ^^ That's kinda where this thread was supposed to go considering that's the forbidden room.)
"Right," Minato said. They had to guide themselves through, but eventually reached a door that looked out of place considering all the shops around. "Here it is." He looked around and opened the door. "Quickly." Tomoya went in quickly, no hesitation.

(OOC: Yeah, I noticed that section AFTER making the post. Thanks. XD)
Atem did hesitate briefly, and it appeared he was looking for something. He seemed satisfied with whatever he was doing before walking in. The area was just like any other and he wasn't sure why it was forbidden.

"They said it was condemned. Not much in this place makes sense, but perhaps the reason this place is so forbidden will come out one day," Minato said. "However, as far as we know, there's no reason it should be abandoned. So... what did you want to check out."

"Well, it would be hard to explain. I suggest the two of you stand back, I'm not sure exactly what's going to happen."
Atem walked over to an overturned table in a corner and righted it. He unhooked the jacket-cape from his shoulders and used it to wipe the dust off the table. He flipped open the cover to his belt pouch and pulled out a deck of cards. He shuffled the deck as if he had been gambling his entire life and placed it on the table.
He didn't know how the rules of this world worked and wouldn't have claimed to if asked. But there was something to be said about sportsmanship in any world. He drew five cards. To Tomoya and Minato, it likely looked as if he was playing the card game. He placed one card face up on the table.
To those that could sense energy, it was quite obvious that some kind of strong presence shot out from the card into the area just in front of the table. To everyone else, it was like a light switch. What looked to a mid-sized brown hairball with clawed hands and feet sticking out from under the fur popped into existance. It floated in the air and made a cute high-pitched noise that sounded vaguely like "Kuri!"
(OOC: I'm gonna stop here so your characters have a chance to react. I'll continue once that happens. The card is the monster card Kuriboh, and I'm using the American spelling as it seems a fair enough approximation of the kana used to spell its name)

Minato whispered. Tomoya looked thoroughly impressed, but unlike Minato, he could not sense the strength in Kuriboh, so the look of impression faded after a while. "You summoned a hairball," Tomoya said.
"That's quite rude, you know," Minato said.

(OOC: *dies of laughter* Oh lord yes. Tomoya has a much more standard reaction to Kuriboh, and that was priceless. And the monster really is only useful in terms of combos... many of Atem's famous ones being unusable with the current rules. XD)
Atem made no attempt to hide the smirk at Tomoya's comment. Many an opponent had underestimated the level one monster, ignoring its potential for stragetic combos. On its own it was a fairly weak monster, but it allowed maneuvers that had won Atem more than a few fights.
Kuriboh seemed a little confused by the situation. It floated in a circle a few times before going up next to Atem. Even Atem was mildly surprised by the level of autonomy it possessed. It made a "Kuriii" noise at him and he reached out to touch it. Sure enough, the monsters were very real in this world. There was no Duel Disk, no arena, no explanation for the monster being physical other than it really being physical.
Atem placed his hand on top of the deck and the monster blinked out of existance, the energy drawing back into the card. While not technically a duel, it seemed the best way to "forfeit" and end the summon. He placed the five freshly drawn cards back into his deck and shuffled it a few times before placing it back into his pouch.
He walked back over to the pair and looked Tomoya in the eyes, "Its name is Kuriboh. I don't suggest making the mistake of passing it off as a "hairball". Its quite useful for those who know how to use it," Atem paused, "Also, you might want to pay more attention to your team-mate. I'm sure you've got potential to be a warrior, but as it sits now I don't see you lasting long in a real fight."
Atem's tone of voice indicated he wasn't trying to jab at Tomoya or anything of the sort. In fact, it was more along the lines of well meaning advice, albeit from someone who felt they knew better than the person they were talking to. Tomoya wasn't the pansy Yuugi had been when Atem had first met him, but there was a similarity in the lack of confidence.
Yuugi had tried to be friends to everyone he met. Tomoya, on the other hand, seemed to try and push people away. Both were self-preservation techniques against being abandoned and had high potential of leading to the very thing they were supposed to prevent.

Tomoya was no stranger to jabs. He often got a pleasure out of causing pain to his friend Sunohara, inadvertently or otherwise. He never understood why the blonde stood around when he had caused him to get his ass kicked by Tomoyo and the rugby team, but apparantly he thought it was out of play. So Tomoya didn't act offended by Atem's comment. "Big difference between Minato and me. His world nearly came to an end due to what he calls the Fall and he was trapped as a statue to protect the world from some monster he calls Erebus, apparantly formed from humanity's despair and negativity. In my world, however, the closest thing to the end of the world you get is if the girl you really, really like dumps you. I'm not out fighting against supernatural forces and psychotic maniacs every day." But what he lacked in physical strength, he made up for in his own fashion of compassion and determination. He didn't have to fight against evil creatures, but he did have to stand strong and endure hardships in order to help Nagisa fulfil her dream of acting in a play.

Atem was pleased with Tomoya's reaction. His thoughts about him having personality similarities to Yuugi remained, but it hit him that Tomoya probably had more in common with Jounouchi. Gruff exterior but a good strong heart.
"Fair enough. This world seems more dangerous than the one you come from, however, and it might be wise to keep an eye out for danger more serious than being dumped."
Atem paused and looked towards the door. His eyes softened and it looked like he was about ready to chuckle, "It looks like we might be seperating now. My other self noticed an arcade on the way here. If that isn't where you're heading it looks like we'll be saying goodbye."

"I'll keep that in mind then," Tomoya replied.
"The arcade... I actually have been looking into that," Minato said.
"Then I'm seperating from the two of you. I'm gonna go get something to eat," Tomoya said. "So if you need me, I'll be in the food court. Later." With that, he walked off.
"Later then Tomoya," Minato said.

Atem nodded in acknowledgement to Tomoya as he walked off. He stepped forward and opened the door for Minato. The fact that he wasn't hanging back indicated he had shifted his opinion slightly. It appeared he had a greater level of trust for Minato than he had before.
(OOC: So, to the Arcade? And maybe we should change the name of the thread... I'll wait for your response. :3)

Minato began to walk forward when...
Thou art I and I am thou.
Thou shalt have our blessing when thou choosest to create a Persona of the Duelist Arcana.
The voices in his head dissapeared and he continued to walk, thanking Atem for holding the door open. But in his mind...
More Arcana? More Persona to create? What does that mean?

Atem thought he saw the faintest of... he couldn't come up with the right word. Twitch was far too strong. And to be honest, he wasn't sure he hadn't imagined it. He refused to pass it off so simply but it wasn't enough to make any real observations about. And while he wouldn't accept it, the possibility of it being in his head was still there. He walked out after Minato and closed the door.
(OOC: I hope you don't mind the way I handled this. Atem's super observant so I figured he'd pick up something. I tried to leave it incredibly vague so as not to betray Minato's abilities to conceal if he's been bothered by anything. Should I move to the Arcade? Oh, and btw, LOVING the foreshadowing. Especially since it's gone totally over my head cause I've never played Persona. The "Duelist" part has my interest peaked though. X3)

Another social link... with Atem... Now I'll definently have to keep in contact, even if only to hone my abilities. With that, the two made towards the Arcade.
