Full Name: Tohru Adachi
Nicknames: Cabbage Adachi, Rapedachi
Age: 28 (by end of Persona 4)
Height: 176 cm
Weight: 63kg
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alliance: Unclear (shifts between all three fairly quickly, so a Neutral would probably be best fit)
Home: Yasoinaba, Japan
Franchise: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
Physical Description: All in all, Adachi looks pretty average. He’s got brown hair and eyes, and looks fairly friendly. For some reason, he can never be bothered to actually do something about his hair, so it always looks messy. He typically wears a suit and a large red tie.
Weapons: Pistol
Abilities/Powers: Adachi has the ability to summon a Persona, which is a physical representation of his psyche. His persona is Magatsu Izanagi.
Skills: Adachi really has no skills, being a single, rookie cop, even though he’s nearly twenty-eight.
Personality: Adachi always seems to be cheerful and jovial on the surface, and is often the blunt of jokes, which he takes in stride. He often can’t keep his mouth shut about important secrets, and will accidentally blurt things out, much to his chagrin. Of course, this is just his surface personality. The fact was, he had only become a police officer so he could legally own a gun, and he doesn’t even enjoy his job. He despises people, thinking that the world would be better if everyone were just shadows, just the same (granted, a lot of that part can be blamed on being possessed for most of the final part of the game). He also really, really, REALLY doesn’t like it if a girl rejects him. Let’s just say there’s a reason one of his nicknames is Rapedachi.
History:(WARNING: CONTAINS MAJOR PERSONA 4 SPOILERS. AS IN “HOLY CRAP THAT’S HOW THE GAME ENDS” SPOILERS. YOU’VE BEEN WARNED)
Adachi came to Inaba shortly before the incidents started as a rookie cop, serving under Ryotaro Dojima, a detective in Inaba. Sometime after coming to Inaba, he gained the power to summon a Persona from some unknown source, though he didn’t know he could summon one, instead finding out that he could insert his body into television screens. Before the incidents started, he was supposed to be the body guard of Mayumi Yamano, a newscaster who had been thrown into the public eye recently because of an affair she was in. However, he actually had a crush on her, and when she spurned his feelings, Adachi tried to rape her. Unfortunately, during this, he accidentally pushed Mayumi into the television using his powers, and she was later found dead, hanging from a TV antenna. Later on, the girl who found the body, Saki Konishi, was brought into the police station for questioning. Adachi was the one who questioned her several times, trying to seduce Saki as well. Eventually, she slapped Adachi, which lead to him getting mad and pushing her into the TV as well. Saki was the next to die.
Afterwards, Taro Namatame, the lover of Mayumi before she died, notices a pattern in the deaths: it’s always people who appear on the Midnight Channel, a sort of supernatural TV channel that only appears on rainy nights on turned off TVs. He calls into the Police Station to report this discovery, and the person who answers is Adachi. Adachi has since become incredibly amused by the deaths and the murder mystery this has caused, and does not wish for his “fun” to end, so he convinces Namatame to “save” people who appear on the Midnight Channel using his powers, powers the same as Adachi’s. This leads to the eventual kidnappings of people who appear on the Midnight Channel. Meanwhile, Adachi played the role of the bumbling assistant to Dojima, occasionally slipping hints about things to Dojima’s nephew, Souji Seta, who had been investigating the case. After a while, though, it seemed that Souji was getting close to solving the case, so Adachi started sending threatening letters to Souji saying that someone close to him would die if he kept this up. One of those letters were discovered in the mail by Ryotaro, and Souji was detained in the police station that night. This eventually led to Nanako Dojima, Ryotaro’s daughter, being the next to be be kidnapped. Even after she was rescued, though, Nanako’s condition continued to decline, and she got very close to death. This was when Adachi started deciding that the murder case was no longer fun, and was planning to get rid of Namatame by scheduling a hospital change earlier than it was supposed to be. While Namatame was being moved, the Investigation Team caught up with Adachi, and tricked him into revealing his connection to the murder cases. Adachi eventually escaped into the TV World, attempting to get away from the Investigation Team.
Sometime during Adachi’s time in the TV World, he was possessed by a being called Ameno-Sagiri. After the Investigation Team found Adachi and essentially beat the crap out of him, Ameno-Sagiri took control and battled the investigation team. Once Ameno-Sagiri was defeated, the fog disappeared from Yasoinaba, and Adachi was down and out for good. He eventually decided to fess up to his crimes and go to jail.
