(OOC: You people should know this one already. If not, just hit up any of the topics in the Rei no Kaado history section with an Invite Only tag; any of them will do at this point.)
It was silent inside of the apartment of Adachi Tohru. Mostly that was because the owner of this apartment was passed out on the couch. He had been watching TV when he had fallen asleep, but he'd at least had the decency to turn it off before falling asleep. He, however, had not had the decency to change out of his uniform.
Sitting on a table near the door was a vial filled with liquid and a note next to it.
------------
Back in Souji's own apartment, he was still awake. Teddie was sleeping on his couch tonight; they had decided it was a good idea for Ryoji to stay at Minato's apartment now that Minato wasn't freaking out every time Ryoji spoke. Not only that, but Minato had to get Ryoji to believe that fate could be changed, somehow. If Ryoji believed that, then maybe someone wouldn't have to become the seal.
"Someone" being Souji. Minato couldn't do it anymore, and as far as Souji knew, you had to be a Wild Card user in order to make the seal. And while Souji didn't want to sacrifice himself... he wasn't going to let Minato try again either.
Worrying about that wasn't the reason Souji was still awake. The reason he was still awake was because he'd had a day of hell. First Souji had gone to see Izanami, this time with backup. Then Ryoji had nearly killed Anpu when Anpu attacked Ryoji to get away from him. Then they'd had to tell Yuugi and Atem the truth about Ryoji. And just to top things off, Souji's Persona, or even worse, possibly Izanagi himself, started talking to Souji and Souji had found out that for some reason Anpu wanted to poison him.
Which was why Souji was sitting awake with his katana next to him, while he stared at the tarot card he used to summon his Persona. Anyone who came into the room now would find him practically zoned out.
Why did you start talking to me in the first place?
You learned the truth.
Like hell I'm your avatar or incarnation or whatever you want to call it.
I am you and you are me. Accept it.
Souji made the card disappear from his hand. Handy trick he had figured out that kept him from having to worry about losing his card or anything like that. He only had to will the card into existence for it to appear in his palm, like he had the first time he summoned Izanagi. He still had to crush the card to summon his Persona, but that was to be expected. The card was something like an Evoker, only without the "forcing one's persona out" thing.
Bite me, Souji growled at Izanagi in his head.

Anpu had made his way down the hall without making a noise. It wasn't that he was trying to be silent. The years had made him move in a manner that meant he would have to try to make noise in most situations. He put his hand on the door, but it wouldn't open. He scowled. He didn't have the tools he needed to pick the locks. Which left knocking. He hammered the side of his fist against the door, not caring much if anyone and everyone heard him.
"Adachi!" he sounded as annoyed as he felt.
He'd pick up the tools he would need to pick locks tomorrow. While he had higher staying power than Bakura, mind over matter only went so far. Bakura was exhausted, at least in part due to his body having to work to heal the wound. He hovered his fist over the door again, ready to pound more. If that failed, he'd work on the hinges to the door.
----------
Like Souji, Ryoji was awake. He didn't know if Minato was awake, though. Minato had insisted he take the bed, and the door to the bedroom was closed. He was laying on top of a still made bed, staring at the ceiling. He had wanted to get to sleep so he could dream, but it was escaping him. He'd been sleeping in his clothes most of the time, but after a rather hilarious scene Minato had convinced him that yes, his boxers were clean, he'd borrowed a pair of them.
Ryoji sighed and sat up, looking towards the window. He climbed out of bed and pushed back the curtains, staring at the moon. He'd always been drawn to the thing, damned if he knew why. He was worried. About Minato, about Souji, and especially about the truth he couldn't be told. He didn't even know if he was going to sleep tonight.
----------
Yuugi and Atem had actually had a bit of an encounter over the bed. Atem didn't want to take it, Yuugi didn't want him to be on the couch. Any time he'd convinced the former Pharaoh to sleep on the bed had been a case of getting to the couch before the situation could come up. They'd finally settled on something like a compromise.
If anyone walked in on them, they'd both probably be extremely embarassed. Especially how they'd managed to position themselves in their sleep without realizing. When they had fallen asleep, they'd been as close to the opposite edges of the bed. They'd stuck a bunch of pillows into the middle of the bed as a makeshift barrier.
Now, however, they were both near the center of the bed. Most of the pillows had been kicked to the edge of the bed, and a few were on the floor. Atem was sleeping on his back dressed in a similar manner to how he had slept in Ancient Egypt. No shirt, although the cartouche still hung from his neck. He had on black boxers rather than the cloth wrap he'd sported back in his days as Pharaoh. The lower half of his legs had part of a blanket tied up in them. It wasn't the part of the scene that would embarass anyone.
The part that would embarass them was that Yuugi was halfway into a fetal position, the Pendant hanging from a coat rack near the door to the bedroom. He was dressed in light blue pajamas, only a bit darker than what he had owned back in his world. His head was tucked up against the side of Atem's chest. Most of the blanket was over him, and he had one arm over Atem's chest. Neither of them were consciously aware of the other.

Adachi pulled himself up off of the bed after the third knock or so (really, it sounded more like someone was banging something large and heavy up against the door; the amazingly thin walls of these apartments were not helping in that regard), and walked over to the door. He looked over at the locks, and suddenly felt like an idiot. Right, Anpu wasn't back yet. Adachi slowly got about unlocking the door.
The final lock stuck, but Adachi was able to get it open. He pulled the door open for Anpu. "Sorry. I forgot you weren't getting home until later."
Adachi stepped away from the door and started heading toward his bedroom. "That poison stuff you wanted's on the table... I'm gonna go sleep now..."
-----------------
After another few minutes or so, Souji lay down on the bed and sighed. He really didn't want to bother with this at the moment. Teddie was out in the living room, he'd probably be able to smell Anpu anyway if Anpu snuck in.
You were so eager to accept the truth before, and yet you refuse this simple one about yourself.
"I am trying to sleep."
Stop lying to yourself and accept the truth.
"Listen Izanagi. So help me, I'll march down to Minato's room right now and take some of those Persona suppressants of his if you don't--"
He doesn't have any. If he had, he wouldn't have tried to sacrifice himself the way he had.
Souji stayed quiet this time, until he grabbed a pillow and covered his head with it. Ever since he'd gotten back to the apartment, Izanagi wouldn't shut up.

Anpu didn't even bother nodding. He walked over to the table and picked up the vial. He looked at the clear liquid. The vial was small, Anpu could conceal it if he closed his fist around it. the lid was black. He unscrewed it and sniffed the contents, confirming the lack of odor. Adachi had made his way into the bedroom by now.
The Thief King was screwing the lid back onto the vial when he finally saw the note. The handwriting was a bit sloppy, the kind of thing a person who had developed quick methods of writing might do. He picked it up and glanced over the note. Well, that was no problem. He hadn't even allowed Bakura's consciousness to surface since he'd cut his body. He was a bit annoyed about the warning, however. Any poison was capable of killing in the wrong dose. In this case the paralysis would stop the heart.
There wasn't much to work with here, and without knowing Souji's exact weight things would be a bit tricky. He remembered Izanami's warning. He'd have to risk it. He put the note down and opened the vial again. He put his finger over the lid and carefully tipped the container to the side. He lifted up the finger and touched it to the tip of his tongue. He put the lid back on and put the vial in with his cards.
He sat down and blinked. He looked at his hand and shook it a bit. He cracked his knuckles and nodded to himself. It was a bit like he was only very slightly asleep. Still, the reaction had been that quick with that little. Adachi obviously had no idea how potent this stuff was. He would have been fine with a fourth of the vial.
He sat down on the couch and leaned his head back. He switched places with Bakura. The teenager looked around, unsure of where he was at. He rubbed his hands, they felt like they were trying to go numb. And massaging them wasn't helping. He felt a spike of pain in his arm and pulled of the trenchcoat, surprised to find a bandage wrapped around it. The knot looked better than most doctors could do. Anpu had taken care of it.
He leaned back and closed his eyes. He felt exhausted. Physically and emotionally. What was going to happen to Souji... or Atem? What had been that weird feeling earlier? It was as if something had been tugging at his soul. He let out another sigh. He was asleep before another minute passed.

Somehow or another, Souji got the feeling that he was the only person still awake at this point. And Izanagi still hadn't quite shut up yet. Souji sat up in bed.
"Some of us are trying to sleep, Izanagi!" Souji growled. "It's..." he grabbed his alarm clock. "Three in the morning! Let me sleep!"
Not until--
"Look, how about you let me sleep now, and tomorrow morning, I'll buy you and me both a coffee. We can discuss things over that, alright?"
...as you wish.
"Thank you." Souji turned over on his side, and smiled, glad that there was finally silence. He could finally sleep without Izanagi talking in his head all night long.
He would sleep until about six in the morning, at which time, he would get up, pull on some non-PJs, and drag himself to the nearest cafe. He wanted to do this before the others woke up.

Bakura woke up at about five minutes to six in the morning. It wasn't anything fancy, he simply opened his eyes. He was horribly groggy and his arm hurt like hell. It was stiff, too. He rubbed at his eyes, wishing Adachi had a digital clock in the living room. the first arm he tried to push himself up with was his right arm, as he was right handed. He felt a bolt of pain and switched arms. He succeeded this time.
He rubbed his eyes with his good arm and made his way to the bathroom. As he was leaving, he caught his reflection in the mirror. He looked like hell. He looked down at the clothes he'd worn for two days. He needed a change, but he didn't have any money. And he found himself wondering about Anpu. He wasn't even sure why he took his next action.
"Anpu, are you awake?"
He sensed an energy surface next to him, and those with acute spiritual senses would see the taller and harsher man appear next to him. There were a lot of appearance differences between this spirit form and himself. The man was heavily tanned and had a nasty scar below one of his eyes. Bakura suspected that this was Anpu's true form, the way Atem's appearance had been Dark Yuugi's true form.
"This is new, you calling me out. What do you want?
"I was just checking," Bakura said. He was upset with himself. He'd had a chance for a little bit of peace and he had woken Anpu up, "...why do you hate Atem-kun so much?"
"None of your damn business. What time is it?"
Bakura was about to snap back at Anpu when he remembered his arm. He frowned deeply, "...almost six in the morning last I checked."
Anpu shook his head, "You're going to rug our body ragged if you don't get more sleep. We came in at three last night."
"Since when do you care about what happens to my body!?" Bakura demanded, his voice carrying through the entire apartment due to the walls.
"Since I started 'sharing' it with you," Anpu scowled, "I won't harm it more than I need to in order to keep you in line. I will not be operating below par because of your negligence. If you won't go to sleep, I'll take over and do it for you. You know as well as I you can't supress me for long."
Bakura looked at his feet. Everything Anpu was saying was right, aside from his question about Atem. If his suspicions were right, Izanami's end of the deal to kidnap Souji involved killing Atem. It was worse than that alone, as well. If Atem and Yuugi were... an item the girls called it, Yuugi would be heartbroken. And Bakura would be directly involved in murder. He heard the sound of a door closing and looked up. He felt Anpu tense.
"I'm taking control now. That was Souji's door,"
Bakura felt his head spin before he could so much as object. The spirit form beside his body was now himself. He grabbed his head, it was always jarring when Anpu forced dominance and didn't immediately suppress him. He was pulled along as Anpu ran out of the bathroom and stopped at the front door. He leaned against it and listened for the footsteps. He'd be trailing Souji today. He sensed Bakura was about to say something and suppressed the teenager.
Souji had just left his apartment. Considering Adachi's was right across the door and the high likelihood Izanagi was attempting to keep his senses open for the threat, there was a small chance of something. Izanagi knew the basic power of the Millenium Items, so there was a small chance he'd sense something up via the Ring. He likely wouldn't know exactly what, though. The Ring used the same power source, but had its own energy...
----------
Ryoji was right. He hadn't slept. He sighed and got out of the bed again. He'd lain awake for at least an hour. He opened Minato's clothing drawer and pulled out a plain white t-shirt and a black pair of pants. It was a little freaky. The two were the exact same height and within one or two pounds of each other if they didn't match depending on the day. He got dressed, the only piece of clothing that was his being his scarf. He wrapped it around and took a comb to his short hair before pushing open the door to the bedroom.
Minato appeared to still be asleep. Ryoji tried to go to the door quietly, but paused and scratched down a note that he was going out on a piece of paper. He walked to the door and put his hand on the handle. Naoto had insisted he not avoid Minato. Last night Minato had tried to bring up a conversation about something complicated involving choice making. He hadn't seemed to know what he was talking about anymore than Ryoji had understood him. He didn't want to deal with those messages again today. Just a little bit more and he'd be out without disturbing the blue haired teenager...
----------
Teddie jerked up like he hadn't even been asleep as the door to Souji's apartment closed. He was on his feet quickly but stopped. If Souji hadn't woken him, maybe he needed to be alone. Everyone had moments like that, and they had been swarming him quite a bit. He sighed and sat back down. His thoughts wandered and he found his eyes drifting to the television. He wondered how things were on the other side. It was his home, after all. He belonged more there than here, and he hadn't been there in quite some time.
Dangit it, Izanami... I bet you know what the problem over there is, don't you? Why can't you leave me, my friends, and my home alone!?

As Souji headed down the hallway, Izanagi, whom Souji had expected to stay quiet until he got to the cafe, spoke again.
I sense that same dark energy from before on the other side of that door.
Somehow, Souji knew what door Izanagi meant without needing to be told.
Can you tell if it's Anpu or Bakura?
No.
I'm going to go with the assumption that it's Anpu, then. Souji said. He didn't look behind him as he walked; if someone was following him, he had Izanagi to watch his back.
-------------------
Minato groaned and looked up almost immediately when Ryoji went to the door the second time. He blinked a couple times at him. Obviously, Minato was still tired.
"...Ryoji? Where're you goin'?" Minato mumbled. He yawned. He wasn't much of a morning person himself.

Ryoji's shoulders twitched and her swivelled to face Minato. His eyes were half-lidded. Actually, Ryoji had picked up on the drop of honorific recently. He wasn't sure what had caused that. He was kind of happy about it, though.
"...out. I need to clear my head. Go back to sleep, Minato. I'll be fine."
Actually, Ryoji wanted to something specific. He knew most people would laugh at him for this, but he wanted to see if he could find an occult store or something of the sort. He was looking for a deck of tarot cards. He was sure he'd get a lecture about them being a stupid hobby and nothing to believe in. But Ryoji was lost right now. And it was a hobby of his.
----------
Anpu stayed behind the door. He had heard Souji's footsteps stop. In a way, the thin walls of this place were a blessing. He was capable of being silent and had good ears. The real challenge would begin once they got outside.

Minato yawned. "...alright." He lay back down again and soon enough, he fell back asleep. He really was tired. Then again, he had awakened to his Persona again only a couple days previously. He hadn't told anyone, but he was exhausted. He remembered how exhausted Atem had been after awakening to his Persona and Minato could now sympathize. Still, anything was better than being out in a coma for a week straight.
------------------
I don't sense him following us. Izanagi finally said.
Souji hadn't heard any footsteps. Finally, he started walking again. He really needed that coffee now... and on the bright side, he might be able to finally resolve things with Izanagi. This guy needed to know exactly why he was rejecting him before he ended up getting sick again from all of his stupid speeches.
Souji walked down the stairs and out of the apartment building. There was a cafe nearby here; he wouldn't have to walk all of the way to the plaza for that coffee, thankfully.

Ryoji relaxed as Minato all but fell back into a laying position. He'd leave the note where he'd left it. It was just telling Minato he had gone out and would be back in the evening. Ryoji opened the door about the time Souji had reached the bottom of the stairs. He didn't know the city well at all, but he could ask for directions.
----------
Anpu waited until he couldn't hear steps anymore and headed out the door. He didn't bother leaving a note for Adachi. He didn't even think about it, to be truthful. Anpu was not one used to answering to people, and only delivered messages when it related to his plans. At the moment Adachi may as well not have existed for Anpu. He felt a rather pleasant rush at the moment.
He had gone into banditery for survival, but it had been a lifestyle that had grown on him. He'd likely go mad in a ethical lifestyle. He made his way down the hall and hit the stairs. He saw Souji just as he stepped off the stairs.
Anpu wasn't one that let those he was following see him. Even if they had eyes in the back of their heads, he was always hidden. He couldn't do much to Souji unless he went to an area without a lot of crowding. But there were things beyond slipping the poison into the teenager. He had a feeling that if he kept his eye on him, he'd learn more about Izanami. He had agreed to kidnap Souji for her, nothing had been said about respecting her privacy...

The streets were mostly empty, most likely due to the time of morning it was. The fact that it was still dark out and there were very few cars about meant that there weren't that many people out and about. There probably wouldn't even be anyone besides the employees at the cafe when Souji got there.
Izanagi stayed almost completely silent the whole walk there, which Souji was grateful for. He couldn't keep his mind focused on any other tasks when Izanagi spoke to him for some reason. It was irritating.
Souji arrived at the cafe just as an employee was turning on the Open sign. Looked like he would be the first customer. He walked on into the cafe and looked around. They probably didn't have their coffee machine heated up yet, either... Souji sighed and sat down at a table.
You promised coffee.
I have to decide what to get first, Souji thought back.
You are the only person here besides the employees, who are probably used to more oddities than you are. You can speak out loud.
"Whatever you say," Souji said in a low voice.

Anpu was keeping a rather large distance between them. There weren't any crowds to hide among this time of day. It was dark, but the areas to slip into consisted mostly of alleyways and a few cards to hide behind. He saw Souji go into a coffee shop from his cover in an alley. Once he was sure an angle change wouldn't let Souji see him he came out from his cover and looked at the building.
There seemed to be a back entrance. He headed forward normally, drawing no more attention than a faceless pedestrian might. There was nothing suspicious about him as he went into the alley right next to the shop and found the back entrance. The door was locked. Anpu smirked at how laughably simple it was. He pulled out one of the cards from Bakura's Duel Monsters deck and slipped it through the crack between the door and the frame. He heard the lock pop open.
He looked at the card. It was undamaged. He placed it back in the deck and slipped into the building. He found a niche concealed by shadows in the kitchen and crouched down there, keeping an ear open. There were a few people moving here and there, but no one noticed him.
----------
"You know that stuff is fake, right?"
Ryoji sighed and nodded, "It's just a hobby."
"There's a little store down thataway. It's about buildings past this small coffee shop. The place keeps crazy hours, they close at eight in the morning. Probably for some stupid atmosphere or whatever. It's kinda hard to pick out, just remember its two buildings past the cafe."
Ryoji nodded and thanked the man he was talking to. Souji might see him walking past the glass doors of the shop.

Souji's eyes went to that unfocused look again as he started talking with Izanagi.
"...Alright. I get it already. You think I'm some kind of avatar of you, right?" Souji asked.
There is no 'think' involved.
"...Look. This isn't exactly something I'm too happy about. I never wanted to be some god's plaything. No one does. You're telling me that I'm you're earthly representative or whatever you want to call it, and you think I'm supposed to go along with this?" Souji asked.
Yes.
"Thanks to you and Izanami, I can't even think of myself as a real person anymore. Just some construct created by a god and sent to do their dirty work. I never wanted this. I could deal with having to stop Izanami's plans. I can't deal with her trying to kill me, or stalk me, or whatever she's doing because I'm apparently you," Souji said. "I don't know why the hell you bothered giving me some kind of free will if you were just going to pull this crap."
I'm sorry.
The apology caught Souji off guard, and he ended up sitting there for a couple more minutes until he stood up. "Alright, you held up your end of the bargain. I'll go get that coffee now."
As he walked over to the counter, Izanagi spoke again.
Death is out and about.
Souji tensed up.
"...You mean Ryoji, right?"
It is currently in human form, yes.
"How can you tell he's Death? Not even Teddie could tell, and Teddie's a Shadow too," Souji said in a low voice.
We are one and the same. You called him Death in your memories.
"If he's not killing anyone, then it's fine. Though I don't know why he's wandering around at six in the morning..." Souji said. He finally walked up to the counter. "Er..."
Ask for the cappuccino.
"Could I get a cappuccino, please?" Souji asked.
"$3.95," the woman running the register stated. Souji took out his wallet. Okay, so that was about four hundred yen... he handed her the correct amount of money, and she handed him back his change in American coins.

Anpu had to really work at hearing Souji's conversation. The kitchen was not a quiet place, and every once in a while a high pitched whistle would come from one of the machines. He couldn't catch all of what Souji was saying. The teenager was trying to speak quietly. He heard enough and was able to fill in quite a few spaces.
Souji really was Izanagi's avatar. However, Souji was the body and the god could not function without it. It would be like if Bakura were knocked unconsciuos. They're awarenesses were tied in a fashion that one shared the fate of the other. He couldn't say if Izanagi would die with Souji. Bakura and subtext had made it clear that in their case he would survive if Bakura were killed, although it seemed it would only work if he was the dormant personality. He'd keep that in mind if he were injured.
There was a long pause. Anpu took the chance to examine the kitchen from his hiding spot. A few of the workers were getting drinks themselves. Probably a perk for working there. That and the snippets of conversation allowed Anpu to get a basic feel for how things worked. It was humorous what revealing and dangerous topics people spoke if when they thought no one was listening. He looked up as he heard footsteps. By now he'd trained himself to Souji's way of walking.
He heard the order clearly, another indication of how quietly Souji had been talking before. The name of the drink the woman shouted back was cappuccino. He'd heard that name come up in the chats back here. He reached into his coat and pulled out the vial. An eighth was all he'd need. More was possible, but he'd handle that if Souji seemed to be regaining function too soon. He'd have to wait for them to make the drink and then cause a distraction. He loosened the cap to the vial. He'd need to yank it off and pour, he wouldn't have much time and he'd have to pay attention to the dosage. If he killed Souji, there would be hell to pay.
----------
Himitsu had moved the shop from its usual location in the Plaza at about six in the morning. She tended not to like to move it to locations so close to places that specialized in the occult, but she hadn't had a choice. At least the place was a complete fraud, she didn't have to run the risk of setting off every spirit sense in the building. She'd spent the next half hour preparing. Someone was coming to the area soon, and his fate would be providing a key branching point.
At six thirty she had informed Eriol to keep a watch on the shop. She hadn't woken Pallete. At 6:35 she had stepped out of the shop in her young woman form and headed out of the alley. It was just in time to "accidentally" run into a teenager wearing a scarf. She had done research on the teenager named Minato after he had seen Palette's prophecy. She had been aware of the presence of Death yesterday. No one had seen her, but she had been at the festival. She knew the teenager she had just run into was Death for a combination of that and the research she had put into Minato's world. She knew a lot of things she probably shouldn't. She was "Himitsu", after all.
"I'm sorry, are you okay!?"
Ryoji hadn't even seen the charcoal haired woman. He'd been looking straight ahead, it was almost as if she had popped in front of him. There was an alley right in front of him, he figured she had come out of that. She was wearing a kimono, oddly enough, and was actually pretty good looking. He didn't just offer her his hand. He had crouched down and placed his hands on her shoulders.
"I am quite fine," she said, taking his hand as he dropped one from her shoulder and accepting his help to get her to her feet. She couldn't believe this, the "teenager" was hitting on her, "The question is, are you alright? You seem preoccupied."

Souji stood at the counter waiting for his coffee. Well, it wasn't really his. It was Izanagi's. Though he wasn't sure how Izanagi was going to drink it. Probably through him, Souji realized. All of that stupid "I am you" crap he kept going on about earlier, Izanagi probably shared Souji's own senses.
Souji made a mental note to find out what kind of food Izanagi disliked.
---------------
Eriol was doing just as Himitsu had told him to, and was staying inside the shop, making sure to keep an eye on things. Even though by this point there wasn't a speck of dust inside the shop, he was still trying to find something to clean. It was something that often irritated Himitsu, but he enjoyed cleaning.
He wasn't exactly sure why she had moved the shop this morning too, but he didn't often question Himitsu. He didn't really care what she did so long as she didn't turn on him like the Creator had.
