Ryoji had managed to reach for his scarf again as Minato spoke. He looked increasingly nervous as each word passed. His hand had hung there after it didn't find the scarf. To be truthful, he had looked scared by the time Minato finished the first part of his speech. Then Minato had paused. The breath was understandable, but Ryoji had reached looking like a deer stuck in headlights when the other teenager finally got it out.
Ryoji just stared for several moments. It would be more than easy to take it as horror. Horror at the thought, at the suggestion. Minato probably thought he had made some kind of mistake. Ryoji dropped his hand slowly and turned away, trying to find the words. He'd been been right....
"I... that is..." he turned towards Minato, and tears were gathering at the corner of his eyes, "It can't... be anything..."
It wasn't a response. It didn't directly confirm or deny Ryoji's feelings in response what Minato had managed to work out. The implication was there, it was pretty overpowering to the postive. Tears weren't a response to the negative with the situation that they were all in. The fact that they were an implication of the positive just made it all the more terrible.
Ryoji couldn't find anymore words. Minato had managed to work it out, and he couldn't say it. He wasn't strong enough. He wasn't yet crying, the tears hung their in some kind of suspended animation. He didn't turn his head, his eyes remained locked with Minato's as if staring into them.
If anyone ever looked more in need of a hug, they'd be hard to find. He wasn't exactly broken, he wasn't shattered, he was just... stuck. He felt the same way, he wasn't human even if you threw out the issues of genders, but he felt the same way. And he couldn't so much as nod his damn head. This was unfair to Minato, but...

Minato had hit feeling like he'd made a huge mistake now. The expression that had spread across Ryoji's face after he'd finally forced it out caused Minato's slightly hopeful expression to drop even further. He knew it had been a bad idea to say that. And it wasn't like it was something that was all that normal in the first place. It probably wouldn't work.
He looked back down at his feet, and finally lifted himself up off of the couch. He looked back over at Ryoji's face, and slowly stepped over toward Ryoji. He hesitated for a moment as he drew closer, and then finally wrapped his arms around Ryoji. He half expected to be pushed away as he did so.
"...I'm sorry," Minato finally said. "I'm an idiot." He still pulled Ryoji closer as he said that, doing the exact opposite of what he believed he should have been doing: pulling away from Ryoji.

Ryoji's eyes widened a bit as Minato got off the couch. Was he leaving? Ryoji looked down and lowered his arm. He wouldn't blame Minato if he did. He'd said he wouldn't change his mind before, but after what he probably thought was a rejection, he wouldn't blame him. In fact, he thought Minato probably should.
The angle of his head allowed him to see Minato's feet before the teenager actually reached him. He looked up with an expression of confusion just in time for Minato to embrace him. Ryoji didn't push him away, instead he locked up, his eyes wide. That hadn't been anywhere near what he'd expected. He felt Minato tense as well, but the blue haired teenager didn't let go.
He was able to relax as Minato apologized. More than relaxed, he probably would have stumbled against a wall for support. Minato was sorry. Why was Minato sorry? And he was calling himself an idiot? Ryoji couldn't exactly wipe his eyes with the way Minato was holding him. He turned his head away, and closed his eyes. A few tears fell despite his efforts.
"You... You're not an idiot..." Ryoji said, his voice shaking from the tears.
Ryoji tried to focus on the wall in his range of sight. It was an attempt because his vision was a bit blurry. He squeezed his eyes and let the moisture clear up so he could see clearly. He'd said that Minato wasn't an idiot. If anyone was the idiot, it was him.
His mind was stuck on the fact that now he'd always know this, even after The Fall, Death would always have those thoughts in its memories, when he felt Minato tighten the embrace. It was a bit uncomfortable now, but Ryoji wasn't going to stop it.
Ryoji turned to look at Minato and opened his mouth to say something, but almost nothing came out. Almost nothing because a barely audible bit of voiced air came out. Any chance at words he'd had were lost when their eyes locked. The way Minato had gotten them together meant their noses just barely avoided touching. Minato's eyes were open, and even if they looked to the side they'd see each others eyes. Ryoji hung there for what felt like an hour with his mouth hanging open, but it was barely a second.
Now his cheeks felt hot. It was faint, but at the proximity the two were sharing it was unlikely Minato would miss the bit of pink on Ryoji's cheeks. And considering that same proximity, it was possible even Minato would feel the heat coming off the other teenager's cheeks. Ryoji tensed up again, but this time it wasn't out of surprise. He felt somewhat trapped. It wasn't a bad thing, either...

Minato hadn't expected their eyes to lock like that. And now that they had, he had practically frozen. He couldn't think of what to do. Was this what love was like? A suffocating feeling that made it hard to think? He knew at once all of those relationships before hadn't been true love, no matter what he'd said. Maybe that was why he had gone out with practically every girl he had laid eyes on. He was trying to fill some kind of void, to fall in love with someone for real somehow.
He and Ryoji were so close. Minato hadn't realized how close he had pulled Ryoji to him until that moment. He hadn't missed the light blush that had finally appeared on Ryoji's cheeks, and he felt it grow just a bit on his own.
He hesitated for a moment, and without looking away from Ryoji he said, "Yes I am."
And then he pulled Ryoji even closer to him, if that was even possible, except this time it wasn't an embrace. He had pulled Ryoji into a kiss. He closed his eyes as his lips locked with Ryoji's.
God, I am such an idiot, Minato thought to himself. He didn't really know why he was thinking that at this point, though.

(OOC: Just in case, things are getting a little (<-sarcasm tag) PG-13 and might go even further south. Since me and FF are known for chewing people out for not flagging chances like this, I figured I should let you know. XD Even WE don't know at this point
PS - If it gets too bad, PMs exist for a reason. XD Don't worry)
Ryoji didn't have the chance to argue Minato's point. Which was the first thing that came into his head, was to pull back and argue. He wasn't an idiot if they both felt the same way. Then again, he hadn't managed to say that to Minato. It was possible the other teenager didn't know. He wasn't sure he could, and he had a feeling pulling away would not be condusive to that point.
It really was amazing how many thoughts the mind could process in half a second. Because that was how long it had taken for those thoughts to come across. Because in the second half of that second, he found himself being pulled closer. Which he wouldn't have even thought possible with how they were practically occupying the same space. And his eyes widened, the tears being lost to the point of being forgotten as Minato kissed him.
Any tension Ryoji had been carrying was lost, and he all but melted. Had he been some kind of liquid creature he would have slipped right out of Minato's embrace. This... was probably what he'd wanted since he broke down into Minato's arms the day before. There was no effort made to fight it or pull back, not that it would have been that easy to do so had there been. His arms were, after all, still pinned down by Minato. His eyes had closed once the inital grateful shock had passed as well.
It couldn't be. He thought that, he really did. Or at least he was trying to convince himself. It wasn't a case of genders, he wasn't really human. The world was ending, it wasn't right to give in to this with that looming over their heads. Then again... it was the only chance they'd have...

Minato felt like they had been standing there for an eternity. He didn't want to let go. It was the same feeling he had the day before when he had embraced Ryoji, when the two of them had broken down upon Ryoji's awakening. He had said before he knew that this was wrong, and yet he couldn't stop himself. He finally pulled away when he realized that they'd been standing like that, embracing and kissing, for over a minute. He blushed.
"...I'm sorry," he said again. Quit apologizing, you idiot! he chastized himself in his head. "I probably shouldn't have done that."
Maybe he should have, maybe he shouldn't have. He didn't honestly know. Nothing else would matter in a few weeks anyways. Maybe this was the only chance for him to express his true feelings. He knew that Ryoji felt the same way he did for sure, but that didn't mean that Ryoji might actually admit it. Minato didn't know. But if he was going to have his heart broken, it was better now than later.
I thought I said quit apologizing! And stop thinking so depressively! Minato thought to himself again. He really didn't know what to think. Part of him wanted to think this was all one big mistake, but most of him was thinking that this was the way things really were supposed to be.
----------------
Izanagi smirked to himself as he observed the situation at hand. It had been a good idea to continue to observe long after Souji had passed out. Well, well, he chuckled to himself. How amusing. Though, at this point I have to wonder if there's a straight person in this building.

Ryoji felt Minato pulling away. The faint tint to his cheeks still remained, but he didn't look as stressed. Then Minato apologized, and Ryoji regained some of his depressed look. Why was he apologizing!? Ryoji hesitated for a moment, still coming out of that occurance, before he shook his head. Rather rapidly, at that. He stopped and looked at Minato.
"No, it's fine!" he said, surprising himself with the force, "That... I mean... ...I'm not upset..."
Ryoji surprised himself as he managed to get that out. Because he wasn't. He was upest that the world was going to end and the time would be limited. He was pissed at Nyx for being unwilling to try and fight back, unaware of the hypocritical nature of the thougt. He was torn apart that Death would march forward, even after The Fall, and that he would always be a part of it, losing Minato after knowing this would always be in his memories. But he was not upset at what Minato had just done. If anything, he was happy.

Minato hadn't expected Ryoji to react like that. With the way Minato's thoughts had been leaning, he had thought Ryoji would react with something like shock. Instead, Ryoji had said he hadn't minded. Minato blinked a couple times.
"You... you really don't mind?" Minato asked.
It was now late enough into the morning that the sun was starting to come up. Considering it was autumn, this meant it was probably around seven-ish. Which meant that people in other parts of the building would likely be waking up by now.

Ryoji lifted his head and squinted a bit at the way the light was streaming through the blinds. It had been dark when he'd woken up. Enough time had passed for the sun to at least raise in part. He lifted up his hand to block the light, paused for a moment, and decided stepping forward was the better idea. Closer to Minato was what his mind said. He tried to tell it to shut up with little success. He didn't hear the first "you" in Minato's question, but it was complete due to the way Minato was having trouble forming words.
Ryoji's cheeks had finally settled down. He looked towards Minato and shook his head. He didn't mind. Maybe it was wrong, or at least not correct. He pulled at the edge of his shirt, realizing for the first time how naked he felt without his scarf. It was a nervous tic, apparently. He'd have to get it if they planned on going out. He looked back up at Minato, and the first thing he did was shake his head again. And then mentally chastise himself for being redundant.
"I..."
Ryoji looked nervous. Thinking about that, it was creepy. He decided he'd try to reword it. It wasn't like Minato needed to know how far back he was pretty sure he'd had feelings for him. Besides, whether he was human or not he'd still looked like a seven year old boy. It had to be a result of when he'd been sealed in Minato, but it was still damn unsettling to think about.
"I think I've... for some time..." Ryoji said.
Emotions were a pain in the ass. On all accounts. If he didn't have that mess to work through, he could speak coherently. If he didn't have that mess to work through, he wouldn't care that everyone was going to die in a month at most. If he didn't have that mess to work through, he could do his purpose without regret. Then again, if he didn't have that mess to work through, he couldn't have feelings for Minato. Feelings, as that kiss had more than proven they weren't anything but. Wait, was he suddenly grateful for this hell?
----------
"hnn..."
Atem opened one eye at the noise. He wasn't sure why it had woken him up. He squinted a bit as he realized a beam of light was falling directly over his eyes. Damn venetian blinds only seemed to block light when it wasn't much needed. The things were twisted down, too, so the angle of the sun must have been just wrong.
He shifted a bit when he remembered the noise. He remembered the noise thanks to the weight on his chest. He smiled softly as he looked down at the position Yuugi had worked himself into last night. It was rather similar to the one from the day before, but at least this time they were both in consent. He was pretty sure Yuugi had managed to make even more of a pillow out of his chest this time. He pushed one of his own blond bangs out of his face when he saw the way Yuugi's were spread out on his chest. Really, their hair was rather insane. He'd yet to see anyone out do it, especially considering the few that came close weren't natural.
Although right now he was faced with a dilemma. He couldn't exactly get up without bothering his Partner. He shielded his eyes and glanced towards the windows. His Partner had practically floored him last night when he said he didn't mind these sleeping arrangements. He had sealed himself into the Pendant as a fifteen year old king, but even at that fairly young age he understood more about physical proximity than he suspected Yuugi'd even dreamed of. Healthy teenage boy or not. He sighed. He did need to get up.
"Partner..."
Atem lightly shook Yuugi by his shoulder. The shorter teen made a noise rather similar to what had woken the former Pharaoh before his eyes opened. He was facing away from the window, so the light didn't go into his eyes. He glanced down and the conversation from last night was thankfully remembered before he could freak about having his head on the tanned chest. It was rather humorous the way he practically flew into a sitting position. And he was blushing. Atem almost facepalmed. Yeah, he knew way more.
"Atem, I'm so-"
Atem shook his head and lifted up a hand, putting one finger in front of Yuugi's mouth, "You said you didn't have a problem with it, Partner. If it bothers you that much I'll take the couch tonight."
"That's not what I'm trying to say!" Yuugi objected, although they both knew he was lying.
"Alright, alright," Atem said, the tone meant to be a slight jab, "Could you scoot back? You're a little close for me to get up."
Yuugi looked for a moment before doing as he was told. A bit more than Atem expected, as he got all the way off the bed. Atem got off on the other side. It was rather funny, the difference in how they slept. Atem wore boxers and Yuugi wore a full out set of PJs. Yuugi walked over and flicked on the light and Atem's hands went to his face.
"Hey!" That had hurt a bit.
"That's what you get for not believing me," Yuugi said in his own teasing tone.
"Inflicting pain hardly qualifies as a fitting response to that," Atem mumbled with mock annoyance.
"Oh, shoot!"
"...Partner?"
"I forgot, Kaiba-kun's still out in the living room!"
"Partner, calm down!"
"But-"
Atem shook his head, "He isn't there anymore. He probably left before we woke up."
"...how do you know that?"
"We're talking about the same Kaiba, correct?" Atem sighed at Yuugi's blank look, "Trust me, if he were still here he would have been saying something about the noise we're making by now. I suspect he left so he wouldn't have to 'deal with us' this morning. He's probably in the process of trying to find new accomodations."
Yuugi flushed when a few thoughts fell into place, "A-A-Atem...."
"Are you okay...?"
"N-no, no I'm not. Atem, Kaiba-kun doesn't miss things. He saw me go back into the bedroom last night, and he didn't see you leave it. Nor did he see you anywhere in the house. Do you think he thinks we...?"
Atem raised an eyebrow and looked at the door, "He doesn't seem the type to jump to that kind of conclusion."
"Stop making light of this! It's embarassing!!"
"I'm saying it doesn't matter if he does, Partner. We shared a bed, we didn't share a bed. I suspect he's too busy trying to figure out who his self-proclaimed rival is between the two of us to focus on things like that."
Yuugi hung his head, "What's there to figure out? It's you, and he knows that. The way he was acting around me was evidence enough."
"If he 'knows that', then he's gravely mistaken. Partner, I know you think its pointless flattery, but I really do think you could defeat me. Once a Duel starts its about doing your best, right? And after all, even if it was me doing the Duelling, you've been observing since you saved Kaiba's life in the Duelist Kingdom," Atem put his hand on Yuugi's shoulder. The shorter teen lifted his head, "Even when you haven't been directly watching, we've had the same emotions. I refuse to accept it was just because of the Puzzle, either."
"Atem, I know that much! But you're better than me!"
Atem looked annoyed, "I suggested we take the day off today, remember?"
"...so?"
"So we're going to head to the mall and get you a deck. I don't think ones that aren't from our world will be useful for anything but a normal game, but I am going to prove to you that you can defeat me. We can take that to Kaiba and his grandstanding."
Yuugi's eyes widened, "B-but..."
"No buts. Come on, we need to get dressed."
"Atem!"
Yuugi said Atem's name again. However, the only indication that the former Pharaoh had heard was a slight pause. It was clear he wouldn't be able to convince Yuugi any other way. He had to be shown. Their entire group had spent the time since Duelist Kingdom talking about the "True Duelist". Yuugi wouldn't hold back. Atem nodded to himself. He knew his Partner wouldn't hold back. Yuugi didn't say his name again, but the former Pharaoh could tell by his body language he felt trapped.
It'll be better once you realize, Partner. I know it will.

Minato blinked a little bit, and actually had been about to say, "You had?" before he stopped himself. No, he did not need to make Ryoji feel bad again. But Ryoji was saying he'd liked him for a long time... ten years long? No, Pharos hadn't even appeared until that night Minato first appeared at the dorms. Minato couldn't say that he had liked Ryoji that whole time he'd been Pharos, though he had grown somewhat attached to the boy, and had been sad to see him go. Though, Pharos hadn't really been gone, he supposed.
Minato was silent for a moment before he finally thought of something to say to Ryoji. "...I can't say how long I have, but I can definitely say that I've liked you for a while."
He looked a little nervous. Casanova he was not, at least in this case.
-----------------
Naoto groaned as she was rudely awakened by an alarm clock. She hit snooze, rolled over, and found herself facing a sleeping Kanji Tatsumi. She nearly kicked him out of bed before remembering that she'd let him sleep in the bed with her that night. Oh, right. She sighed and lifted herself up. The sun was coming up now, so it couldn't be too late. She looked at the clock. Half past seven.
Naoto looked over at Kanji for a moment before stepping out of bed. She supposed she should get ready for whatever would happen that morning.
-----------------
Souji was still passed out on his bed. Izanagi wasn't trying to wake him up at this point. Though he still wanted that coffee.

"...yeah, for a while. Er..."
My apologies, Ryoji, but are you done...?
Ryoji's eyes widened. Damn. He'd almost managed to put Nyx and the mess with The Fall out of his mind. Nyx pretty much had been, and the only reason The Fall had stayed was thanks to the undeniable fact he'd be torn away from Minato. He looked guilty and looked away. How long had she been watching...? He shook his head and looked back towards Minato. His face was graver now, but he still looked pained.
"I'm sorry, Minato..." he sighed, "I need to talk to Nyx..."
Couldn't you have waited a litte longer!?
It will only hurt more the further it goes on, Ryoji. You know now, is that not enough? I don't want to see you hurt...
Ryoji's expression shifted to a blend of anger and annoyed. His eyes were a bit unfocused. After having seen Souji, Minato would likely know that the conversation had renewed itself without Ryoji waiting for a response. Or being allowed to, at the least.
----------
The door closed behind Atem and Yuugi. The former Pharaoh looked sadly at the short teenager, who had carried a rather dejected look since the words about fifteen minutes earlier. Was he that worried that he would lose? No... Atem looked away. There was a fair chance he was that worried he would win. What did his Partner think he was going to take if he won? He had to think something was going to be lost.
"Atem..."
Atem jerked his head back towards Yuugi, "Yes, Partner?"
"Can it be stopped?"
"Not as things stand now, I don't think so," Atem shook his head. The Fall. There was nothing else Yuugi could be referencing. Annoyance crossed his face, "I think we'd stand a chance if Ryoji hadn't given up. If Minato-kun can get him to fight, maybe. But not as they sit now. He said that Minato-kun was able to make the Seal for his connection to Death, and that makes sense."
"Do you think Ryoji can win?"
"We won't know unless he tries. But... I think there's a chance."
The two teenagers had begun to walk by this point. Yuugi had lost some of his dejected look. Atem realized the short teenager wanted him to make things better. He gave a wry smile. He doubted Yuugi missed it, but he continued speaking without waiting for a response.
"Ryoji has two problems to deal with. Death and Nyx. I don't think he's quite the same as Death anymore than Dark Malik was quite the same as Malik."
"You're comparing Ryoji to Dark Malik!?"
Atem looked around as Yuugi yelled. If they'd disturbed anyone, they weren't checking, "Yes. Please don't look at me like that, I'm not saying Ryoji is the 'dark' side of anything. But the fact remains he is the adopted personality."
"...go on," Yuugi said, still clearly annoyed.
They'd reached the stairs.

Minato sighed as Ryoji got that unfocused look he now knew much too well thanks to what had been going on with Souji. He doubted Ryoji would even be able to focus on him anyway with Nyx talking to him. God, that was a selfish thought. He looked away from Ryoji.
"Yeah. Sure. Go ahead," Minato said. He sat back down on the couch. He really didn't have anything to do.
His thoughts wandered to earlier when Souji had come up during Ryoji's conversation with Nyx. Minato didn't know how Souji had been talking with Nyx and Ryoji, but he had been. He was going to ask him about that later. For some reason, Minato was getting the feeling that Souji had been watching them somehow.

Ryoji looked up as Minato told him it was okay. He looked away at the same moment Minato sat down. Why couldn't Nyx have waited just five more minutes? Or at least let him put a proper end to the conversation. He didn't say anything, allowing his expression to become more annoyed as he turned around and walked back into the bedroom. He didn't even realized he slammed it.
You don't want to see me hurt!? Then stop this damn Fall! I don't want anything to do with it!
Nyx blinked, It is inevitable. No, don't. You want to say it was stopped once, but Ryoji... it was blocked with the sacrifice of the one you love. This is why I do not wish for you to continue this affair.
Affair!? Dammit, Nyx, you have yet to give me a good reason why this has to happen! I accepted it last time because it was my purpose! Because I knew Minato-tachi hated me for it! But they don't, Nyx! Ryoji pointed towards the closed bedroom door, He doesn't!
Ryoji was standing, his hands balled into fists. He felt a presence appear in front of him. While he still couldn't really see her, Nyx had thrown herself into a manner that made it more like two people were in the room. He could feel anger mixed in with her depression. He also had the feeling she would be more than a bit beautiful if she had a physical form. She was glaring at him, in either case.
Do not lecture me about love! I have put up with your defiance because I feel sorry for you, Ryoji! You were not supposed to exist, and yet I've been kind enough to let you live, let you form that bond with your former host!
He is not my host! His name is Minato! "-not my host! name is Minato!" Ryoji shouted, his eyes widening as he realized he'd gotten angry enough to not bother speaking through his mind anymore. He spun and faced the door. Minato was going to be checking on them...
I have had about enough of your spying as well, Izanagi, Nyx altered the direction of her voice. Ryoji couldn't hear her, but Izanagi would.
----------
"In the case of-"
Atem cut himself off at the sound of a rather loud shout from below. Rather loud was perhaps being kind, as it was possible the birds outside had heard the yell. The scream, and it sounded upset. Atem had only been able to catch parts of it, but he was fairly sure he'd heard the word host and name. He glanced at Yuugi, and it was the shorter teen who ran first. They were both fairly certain it had been Ryoji.
Being Pharaoh was less stressful than this... Atem thought to himself as he chased after his Partner.

Izanagi hadn't expected Nyx to suddenly address him, and felt a bit amused as she did so.
Oh no, you caught me. Would you like a prize, Nyx? Izanagi asked. By the way, here's hoping your avatar's relationship with his former host goes better than your relationship did with Erebus. It must suck to not be able to see each other without causing whatever dimension you're in to end, eh? Not that Izanagi could say anything, what with his relationship with Izanami. In any case, he looked away from the room where Ryoji had been arguing with Nyx and back down at the passed out Souji.
Rise and shine, Souji-kun, Izanagi said, and prodded the teen, who winced and pressed his face further into the pillow he was sleeping on. Souji. It's time to wake up.
"...Go away, Izanagi."
Fine then, Shadow. Would you rather I let you sleep until noon, thus causing all of your friends to worry about you further while they should be working on stopping the Fall? That got Souji up, and he groaned and pushed himself up.
"You're an ass."
Well of course. Where do you think you got it from, your human parents? Izanagi teased. Souji threw a pillow in the general direction he believed Izanagi was, and it impacted against a wall. You need to control that temper, Souji-kun.
"It's not funny."
I disagree. Now get up. Something's going on down in Minato's apartment again, Izanagi said.
-----------------
Minato looked up as his name ended up being yelled from the bedroom. He stood up. It sounded like Ryoji was arguing with Nyx. And had abruptly stopped once he realized he had stopped talking once he realized he'd been yelling. No wonder he hadn't heard them before; they must have been talking in Ryoji's head still.
Minato walked over to the bedroom door. "Ryoji?" he hesitantly asked.
|
|
|
Post by mugenginga on Jan 9, 2010 22:43:11 GMT -5
Ryoji heard Izanagi speak and jerked his head to the side. Wait, Izanagi was still there too!? He wasn't foolish enough to pass it off as observance. Izanagi had seen that earlier. He didn't know how much Izanagi shared with Souji, but Izanagi knew. And of what he understood of the god, the taunting would never end. While Souji seemed to taunt to be good natured, Izanagi wasn't as kind.
And that was when he realized the absolute rage coming off Nyx. Seconds before he felt himself getting very dizzy. He stumbled, but his attempt to catch himself failed. What the hell, was she trying to act!? At the distance she had to be from where he was!? Some corner of his mind managed to be coherent enough to realize that that thought wasn't quite right. She was trying to control her avatar...
Ryoji felt his form flickering and had to throw his full concentration into keeping this form. His ears were still able to hear Minato, but the voice didn't register. He hit the floor in that mode. If Minato went into the room he'd find an awkwardly landed Ryoji with his hand over his face, which was contorted in extreme pain. And his form was flickering nothing short of severely.
Dammit, no! Not... now...!
Because the fact was, if she gained full control now, he wasn't sure he'd be able to regain himself as Ryoji. And if he couldn't do that, he knew that the Fall would be in a week, at most.
----------
"Minato-kun, are you okay!?" Yuugi was pounding on Minato's door.
"Partner, I'm going to go get Souji," Atem said.
He didn't wait for confirmation from Yuugi. It didn't matter, Yuugi had stopped knocking for a moment and turned to him, nodding. Ryoji had been yelling, it was cause enough to be concerned. And not because Ryoji was Death, it was because Ryoji was a friend. Atem used Souji's door handle to catch himself. He gave three solid knocks.
"Souji-kun, are you awake?" He was speaking loudly, but he wasn't yelling. It probably wasn't necessary with the noise Yuugi was making. Odds were Naoto and Kanji could hear too.
