Physical Description
Jun is a slightly underweight Japanese teenager who seems to have hit his growth spurt a bit early. He's got fairly thin limbs. He's got a normal skin tone, but it is a bit on the pale side from not spending much time in doors.
Jun has brown eyes with no outstanding trait. His dark charcoal grey hair looks a bit hacked. Its short and has quite a few uneven clumps. His bangs are at the right side of his forehead and come up a bit before folding down. The lower most tip falls just barely past his right eye. Jun wears a pair of glasses with simple brown wire frames, and he's pretty blind without them.
He has a ring on his left ring finger. While the tradition is not as prevalent in Japan, anyone that knows western tradition will realize that is where people put their engagement and/or wedding ring, an interesting thing to note considering Jun is fifteen. The main part of the ring is a rough silver with various raised spike-like parts positioned evenly around the ring. The top of the ring has a artistically tarnished gold rose piece.
Jun casual wear is just that. Its not stylish but its not horribly bad looking either. He dresses in a fashion some would call comfortable. He tends to prefer pants, t-shirts, and tennis shoes. He often wears a jacket when he goes out and does own a baseball cap, but its up in the air if he'll wear it.
When he comes to the Island, Jun's is wearing his most common "around the house casual" outfit. His shirt is a slightly oversized and loose sky blue sweater. It has a hood that can pull tight with two white strings, but he keeps it down. The front of the sweater has a wide pocket as seen on many sweaters. The company logo is on the left breast area. His pants fit in a similar manner to his sweater, and are cream in color. He has on white socks and blue house slippers. All his clothes are a touch dirty, noticeable but not significantly so.
Weapons
Jun doesn't have any weapons on him, nor does he even know how to use any.
Abilities/Powers
Jun doesn't really have any powers himself. However, he functions as the Medium, or source of power, to two living dolls known as Rozen Maidens. The rose ring on his left ring finger is proof of that contract. His bond with his connected Maidens seems capable of increasing both the Maidens' and his own power. Interestingly, and a bit unusually, he is able to call upon some of that power himself and use it to protect the Maidens he is connected to.
The contract also allows him to know the general condition of the two Maidens. If they get injured, he can sense it. He can also tell when they are fighting as whenever one calls upon their power, the ring heats up and even gives off a pale pink glow. This burning sensation can reach scalding pain under the right circumstances, and it always enough to send him running to find out the problem.
One rather interesting power of his is the ability to repair the Rozen Maidens. While this seems like it would fall under a skill, more than one of the dolls have expressed it to be far beyond the ability of any normal human or medium. By his own power he was able to seamlessly reattach the arm of the first doll he contracted to, one by the name of Shinku. He is also able to repair normal dolls via sewing in a manner that returns their lost "souls", an ability almost unheard of and more a power than a skill.
Skills
Jun doesn't really have a whole lot in the way of skills. He is a moderately good cook and he does a fair enough job at cleaning, but seeing as how his sister Nori handles that most of the time, its not really honed. He's a bit behind his age group in schooling, although for spending about a year and a half out of school as a hikikomori (commonly translated as shut-in) he's actually doing rather well.
His most prominent skill is that of sewing, and its one that has gotten him a lot of crap due to his gender. When he was about six, he sewed a stuffed frog from scratch for his older sister. He is able to sew ballroom gowns and various other items and he greatly enjoys it. He doesn't, however, like to show off the skill or talk about it much as it is a source of a lot of teasing. He also knows quite a bit about cars and various superstitions due to his hobbies.
Personality
Jun is a kind young man. He often comes across as rude, harsh, or abrasive, but those are more self defense mechanisms than who he really is. He doesn't claim to know everything and is more than willing to admit when he doesn't know something, but he knows right from wrong. He doesn't like to see others suffer and while he'll often stomp off after saying something snide, he'll regret it in private.
He doesn't like attention for when he does nice things. He'll often sneak around to do something in hopes of hiding who it was from. He gets flustered to the point of being snapped and annoyed if someone tries to thank him for his kindness, but observation reveals he doesn't mind it nearly as much as he claims. He still has a bit of an issue with who he really is versus what society wants him to be.
History
Jun Sakurada was born to an average Japanese family. He was the second born, the first child being his older sister Nori. He had a pretty average life, nothing worth note. Around the time he entered junior high, he developed the need for glasses, causing the pictures of him when he was younger to not have them. His parents were often not home, away on business, but Nori took the job of taking care of him without much trouble. Everything went normally until about half way through Jun's first year of junior high.
A series of events lead to it coming out that Jun was an excellent seamster. Up until then, he did very well on tests and there was a bit of jealousy from his classmates. They were fairly unmerciful when it came out he could sew and the teasing lead to a dive in his grades. This lead to even more teasing, and eventually Jun had enough and locked himself up in his house. All of this caused stress for Nori and a dive in Jun's attitude, making him quite the grouch.
It continued like this for some time. Nori would make attempts at getting Jun to recover, leading to fights and him being left alone for days on end. Jun got into the hobby of collecting occult goods online, playing with them, and then returning them before the trial period was over. Since he refused to leave home due to the psychological fear, that meant Nori had to handle the returns. Everything would turn upside down for the teenager when he received a letter saying he was a lucky individual. The letter was from "Holly", a supposed spirit liaison. The letter only wanted him to "wind" or "not wind", and he chose wind before following the instructions of the letter.
After another argument with Nori, he managed to trip over a high quality leather box that had appeared in his room. Upon opening it he found a large doll and a wind up key. He wound her up only to find out that said doll was alive. This lead to a stuffed clown coming to his room and trying to kill him with razor sharp cards. At the doll's, whose name was Shinku, insistence, he formed a contract with her, becoming her medium and allowing her to use her powers to defeat the stuffed clown.
Over the next month or two, Jun would meet four more of the "Rozen Maiden" dolls. Suigintou, Hinaichigo, Souseiseki, and Suiseiseki. Jun was annoyed when Shinku returned from vanishing one day with Hinaichigo, informing him that she was allowing the pink doll to move via the power she got from him. Eventually, Jun helped Shinku face down the first doll of Rozen Maiden, Suigintou, in his dream world that Suiseiseki and Souseiseki had allowed him to access. He saw Shinku vanish before he woke up, and thought the dolls were gone for good because his ring was gone. After going for a walk, cured from his hikikomori status due to the events, he came back to find the dolls causing trouble and a temporarily grateful Shinku.
Jun was aware something was wrong with Shinku after that, and it was revealed she was being plagued over having had to kill Suigintou. He accompanied her to the mysterious N Field after Shinku had realized her sister was probably still alive. There they were taunted by a mysterious figure named as Laplace's Demon, who lead them to meeting a violet crystal controlling doll. This doll claimed to be the Seventh Doll of Rozen Maiden, Barasuishou. Shinku and Jun would have died had Laplace's Demon not opened a portal beneath them.
As the group dealt with dissension, the arrival of the doll named Kanaria, and the actions of Laplace's Demon and Barasuishou, Jun tried to catch up with missed schoolwork. At one point he found a shop called "Enju's Dolls" and met the doll creator there, a man by the name of Enju. The situation at home eventually collapsed, and the forced start of the Alice Game lead to the "sleep" of Souseiseki and Hinaichigo.
The manipulation would eventually lead Jun and the Dolls to Enju's Dolls. Revelations made it seem that Enju was in fact Rozen, which was not questioned due to all the other things that had been going on. Laplace's Demon lead them to a special area of the N Field set up for the Alice Game. One by one, and to Jun's horror, the dolls fell. Finally only Shinku and Barasuishou remained.
During the events, Jun had been desperately trying to stop the fight. He was beyond pissed at Rozen/Enju for forcing his Dolls to participate in this barbaric game. Eventually he found Shinku about to kill Barasuishou, and talked her out of it. Barasuishou took the opening to steal Shinku's source of power, her Rosa Mystica. Barasuishou, now in possession of the six Rosa Mystica, went over to Enju and the two exchanged words that proved Enju was not Rozen. Stuck in shock at the pointless deaths, Jun did nothing. However, Barasuishou's stolen Rosa Mystica rebelled against her at the revelation and she broke into pieces, Enju vanishing into light with her.
After Laplace's Demon gave his parting words, Jun ran over to the still unmoving Shinku. He shouted with grief and fury at Rozen, insisting that if he cared about the Dolls he should say something. Jun heard a voice within his head as he was enveloped by light, and the next thing he knew, he found Shinku sleeping in a chair within the N Field. He woke her up with a caress to her face, and she told him that her Father had told him that the Alice Game was not the only way to become Alice.
Jun had heard it too. Shinku informed him that the Dolls killed by Barasuishou would be returned to normal. Hinaichigo and Souseiseki had been put to sleep by dolls other than Barasuishou, and Shinku said she had been informed those would be her burden to bear. Her Father had encouraged her to figure out the puzzle to save them herself. Jun carefully picked up Shinku and they left the N Field, allowing life to return to their brand of normal.
About a week or so after the events with Barasuishou, Jun found himself being addressed within his dream world. Laplace's Demon was there and dodged any of Jun's attempts to lash out at him. The creature taunted him and said that the scene had changed and a new stage was set. One of the actors had already gone, and he was to follow. A hole opened up beneath the teenager in his dream, and in the world of the waking he vanished... brought to Dimension Island.
Other
Jun uses anime canon, but my ideas for the plot will likely at least reference manga canon. All the anime is used as canon, although the Ourveture OVA has little impact on Jun. Some slight fanon is mixed in.
