The first thing Sam noticed upon getting out of that AWFUL place was that it was much cooler outside. Which was a good thing, because bloody HELL was it hot in that... that HOLE. It was pretty barren outside here, too, though. Presumably they were still OVER the area, and it ran under the entire city, but they were no longer INSIDE it.
Yeah, Sam pretty much assumed they were still in the same dimension. Definitely not in Kansas any more, though. Once they landed, Sam, being the ever curious one, had more questions. And now that they were out of harm's way, and he didn't have to worry about the angel leaving he and Dean in a fiery pit, he could ask them in a less... hostile locale, which would lead to a less hostile manner of questioning.
"The demon, he mentioned something about having a use for me and all the other kids like me. What do you think he was talking about?" Sam asked, addressing both Dean and Gabriel. Theoretically he could've meant any other kids with powers like him, much like that Max kid he and Dean had run into once. But then, what use could he possibly have for them?

Gabriel frowned as the question was asked before he could even place the two brothers on the ground. As usual, he gave no immediate response. His descent to the ground was done carefully, and he didn't touch the ground. It had been a few seconds since Sam asked his question, and by now it was clear to Dean that he wasn't going to get an answer. Himself, he had no clue. The angel was more likely to. He still didn't like the angel. So naturally, now in a safer location even if the being were to drop him, he got rude about it.
"Hey! Just because we're 'foolish mortals' doesn't mean you get to ignore us!"
For Dean who wasn't paying attention to how far from the ground they were, suddenly being released caused a bit of a panic mode. His eyes widened and his body got ready to roll with a fall. This of course caused the maybe two inch drop that he would have normally dealt with to become a fall. Gabriel had a bored expression as Dean's ankle turned and he pretty much crumpled.

Sam almost chuckled as Dean fell. Almost. He didn't like the way the man's ankle had turned, because it might have been sprained on contact. And seriously, they'd JUST been healed. Sam was hoping Dean would wait until they were hunting something to get hurt again, dammit. But apparently he was wrong.
He walked over to help his brother up, having landed relatively gracefully. He offered his hand to his brother and, if he accepted, would help him up and use his shoulder as a brace for Dean. Regardless of whether or not he accepted/needed Sam's help, however, the man continued to talk. This was getting slightly out of hand, honestly. Here they were in a strange place having just come out of a GAPING HOLE FULL OF FIRE, and Gabriel wasn't telling them anything. That wasn't cool.
"Listen, Gabriel. I understand that you have a mission, and that there's some information that even YOU don't know, but please. We can't find our father, we can't... figure out what's going on here, without your help. And being unresponsive, or untrusting," Sam turned to Dean as he said this, "Isn't helping anyone. So please. What do you think he was talking about?"

Dean took it, but he made it clear with his body language and expression he wasn't happy about it. Really, he couldn't be too bad for the fit he was basically throwing. He didn't remove himself from the brace Sam was giving him, though. He glared at Gabriel as Sam spoke, getting no response other than the angel's usual flat stare. As Sam attempted once more to get information, he shook his head.
"I have had intentions to inform you both of more as soon as we arrived. And I still intend to do so, despite the extremely rude behavior your brother has been directing towards me," Gabriel gave no indication he noticed Dean's glare deepen, "I fear I am not in full understanding of the demon that has targetted you nor do I understand its full motivations for continued strikes. If I were forced to venture a guess, it would be that those of its kind are not known for taking losses well. It considers you a loss, Samuel Winchester, and your continued actions towards things of its general alignment have likely given it an excuse to continue its pursuit. As demons tend to go, they attempt to hurt their prey as much as they can. As a result, your family are also targets."
"I fear it is likely your father does not live. Perhaps it would be best if he were dead, fo-"
"Don't give me that bullshit! He isn't dead!" Dean shouted.
"....Do you wish me to continue or not?" Gabriel stated.

As much as he didn't want to think about it, Sam had to admit John's death was a possibility. And one with a large probability, at that. He had to face facts, the man was likely in the custody of the demons, and if he WASN'T dead, he was going through hell right now. Possibly in the literal sense, depending on who the yellow-eyed-demon truly WAS.
However, Gabriel mentioned that it might be better if he were dead before Dean cut him off. Sam could have responded in a number of ways. He could have been outraged like Dean, he could've gone through denial, he could have even been depressed. But right now, one of the two had to keep their wits about them. And if it had to be him, well, so be it. But Gabriel, even with his limited information, knew more about the situation than they did, and cutting him off mid-sentence wasn't going to help save John. Nor make him any less dead.
"No, that's okay, please continue. Why might it be better for him to have died?" Sam asked, nudging Dean a bit.

Gabriel looked at Dean for further confirmation. Dean was still glaring at him when Sam nudged him. That hurt quite a bit than it should, and Dean had to bite his tongue to keep from making an audible reaction to it. Sam probably caught his expression, though. In any case, he once more relaxed and looked at the angel. He was out of control here. He was supposed to be the older brother. After a few tense moments of silence, Gabriel seemed to find it okay to continue.
"If he remains alive, it is possible he shall be used against you. Torture, bait, a combination there of via possession... it is likely you are aware of the possibilities. None of them shall be pleasant for him or yourselves."
Gabriel paused as if waiting to see if Dean would react further. When none came, he moved forward to the next topic, "I am afraid I have not given you a clear answer as to your location just yet. If you have not surmised by the evidence, you are no longer in your world. A term I have commonly seen your kind use is 'dimension'. You have arrived in another dimension, likely sent here to die by those you have enraged. If your father lives, I suspect he will come here in short time. If that does occur, it is unlikely he remains your father. As I said before, our missions do not align in full. While I hold no love for those you pursue, those I seek differ. If those are all the inquiries you have of me, I will be going. You are near a city known as Void City, and help of a more secular nature will be available to you there."

Sam almost lost his grip on Dean, in terms of bracing him, when Gabriel mentioned the various ways their father could be used against them. And honestly, it was all true. In the same way that they could be used against John, John could be used against them. Take, for example, their inability to kill the demon once it possessed him. And then, as another example, going against a building full of demons to save him.
Truly, the Winchesters could handle things like the Wendigo no sweat. However, family? Family was something they struggled with.
Sam recovered quickly though. Now wasn't the time, Dean was letting his emotions hit him hard, and Sam needed to be the responsible one in this situation. For all John's flaws, there was one thing Sam knew, one absolute in this situation. One unchangeable fact.
John Winchester could suffer torture. Probably years, if he had to. But to indirectly quote Hoban Washburn, there was something else Sam knew. Bastard wasn't gonna get years.
"Yeah... yeah, thanks. And hey, maybe we'll run into each other again some time, eh?" Sam responded. He chose not to think on whatever 'mission', Gabriel was off to, because... yeah.

Dean didn't like any of it. Gabriel was right, that was the worst part. With every word of it, both spoken and implied. And the idea of another dimension wasn't out of the question, but it was unsettling none the less. He had managed to support himself when Sam flinched, but was back to using his shoulder for support after his younger brother stabilized himself. Chances are their thoughts were along the same lines. As it was now, their survival was more important. They couldn't do jack for their father if they got killed.
"It is not beyond the realms of impossibility. I bid you fare well," Gabriel finished the last part with a deep bow.
His wings had angled and he was turning even before he fully straightened himself again. A few pure white feathers fell from his wings as he took off, going down and returning to the firey pit that he'd come from. Any number of theories could be had on that. The feathers seemed to vanish into wisps of light as they impacted the ground.
"I still don't trust him... there's a reason he's not telling us for saving us," Dean stated, pulling himself off Sam and taking a few moments to stabilize. He still looked like he needed some solid rest, "I also don't give a damn what he said. We have to find dad."

Well, Gabriel really seemed to like to make grand entrances as WELL as exits. Because the fashion in which he flew off was definitely very... bright? Bright might be a good word for it. In any case, he neglected to give them EXACT directions to Void City. Yeah, Sam thought it was pretty much implied that the pair were going to get lost along the way. Seriously.
And then Dean spoke up, pulling off of Sam. Well, he MIGHT be able to walk the way there, but he still looked like he needed some solid rest. And it was understandable, being that Dean was the most injured of the two after the whole 'being hit by a truck' incident.
However, Dean was focused on finding dad. It was a nice turn around to their personalities at the beginning of the series, that was for sure. Dean wanted to find John, Sam knew that their safety was more important at the moment. They weren't gonna be any help to him dead.
"He'd be pissed if we showed up without the Colt. Dean, he wouldn't WANT us to come. Right now, he'd want us to find out more about this place and what got us here. He'd want us to do our JOB, Dean." Sam responded, looking around. Right, time to trust his gut. And his gut told him that if they kept going forward, they'd find Void City.

"For all we know, he has the Colt," Dean argued. He took in a deep breath, wincing a bit from it before crossing his arm and letting out a grumble, "I suppose guessing isn't going to get us anywhere. I still fail to see any reason for that angel to help us, but... there's no reason for it to attack us, either."
Dean let out a labored breath, "Damn, I'd rather have another heart attack over this. If we're going to that city, we should go now. Some archangel..."
