Takahashi frowned. To pray? So soon after the miko here had died? Really, the guy didn't even look much like the type of person who'd come and pray at these places. He looked more like some foreigner. However, when Teddie blurted out the name of the goddess this shrine was dedicated to, he looked toward "Sayuri" with a questioning look.
"'Izanami', hm?" Takahashi asked. "That Seta kid called Tadoru 'Izanami' once before, too, and you do look a lot like her... You're not really Shin Sayuri, are you?"
Well... that just created a whole new slew of problems.

Teddie had rubbed his eyes as Takahashi asked his questions. Izanami had straightened up and was wearing a puzzled expression on her face when Takahashi asked them. She opened her mouth to object, but closed it and frowned. She'd gotten her previous avatar killed and now she was having to deal with the clean up. She glared at Teddie, who seemed more than happy to return it, before she turned to Takahashi.
"I was born in Tokyo, Japan as Shin Sayuri."
"Sensei is really upset because of you! He thinks you're dead because of him!" Teddie shouted at her.
"This isn't anything mortals or glorified Shadows should concern themselves with," Teddie literally growled at the last bit. She looked at Takahashi, "You won't find Mana's killer with your resources. And before you go writing this off as not a real death, Mana was real. She is really dead."
Izanami had dropped all pretenses by this point. She looked a fair bit annoyed, as well. It bordered angry.

Takahashi was now stepping carefully. He'd managed to confirm that Mana Tadoru and Sayuri Shin were the same person, the goddess Izanami. The fact that she was a goddess meant he had to be very careful as far as things went with her. There was no need to get himself cursed over this.
"We already know Adachi Tohru is the one responsible for Tadoru's death, though the story one of the witnesses gave the paramedics indicated it was an accidental death. Personally, I don't believe it," Takahashi stated. He pulled out a notebook and flipped a couple pages into it. "Since you seem to have some sort of prior involvement with Seta, maybe you can help us with another angle. Shortly after Tadoru's death, Adachi was beaten within an inch of his life. We've got testimonials from the paramedics and Adachi saying that Seta was likely the one responsible."
He looked toward Teddie and Izanami. "You two seem like you know Seta well. It's gonna help his case a hell of a lot more if you two tell me everything you can about him."

Teddie hesitated as Takahashi asked for details. What could he say? That Adachi had been possessed by Izanagi, shot Izanami, and that Souji had pretty much gone berserk and tried to kill Adachi? That wouldn't bode well for Souji in the least. He turned away and looked depressed. Part of his bangs were actually hanging in his eyes, too.
Izanami, however, looked surprised. Souji had... attacked Adachi? She could only come up with one reason why. He had been so angry about her death that he had flipped on Adachi. Why would he do that if he didn't... her eyes widened even more. Even if he hadn't come to see her that way yet, that reaction... she shook her head and returned to glaring. This man was implying Souji would be put in prison if they didn't cooperate.
"I won't let you put Souji in prison," she stated, her voice low and dead serious, "As for Mana being shot, it wasn't Adachi. A god by the name of Izanagi had him possessed and due to specifics I doubt you could manage to grasp, it magnified his negative emotions. He looked like he was going to shoot Souji, but he changed the angle at the last moment and Mana was hit instead."

"I see," Takahashi said. On a normal day, he might have not have believed Izanami, but this wasn't anything close to a normal day, and besides, it wasn't like he hadn't already gotten enough evidence that there was something weird and supernatural was going on here. That goddess sounded pretty damn serious about not letting them put Souji in prison, and Takahashi wasn't one for pissing off goddesses.
At that moment, a call came over the radio Takahashi had strapped to his belt. He pulled it off and held it up so he could hear what they were saying better. The signal wasn't all that good out here in Bonsai Village, so it tended not to come through all that clear. After the call ended, Takahashi put the radio back on his belt.
"Well, I think prison's the least of his problems right now," Takahashi said. "They just found him on the floor in his apartment. Apparently Seta tried to kill himself."

The parallel between reactions was almost comical. Both Teddie and Izanami's eyes widened, their mouths opened within seconds of each other, and they both shook their heads. Where Teddie seemed stuck in his thoughts, Izanami had taken a very deliberate step forward. Her eyes were narrowed. Souji wouldn't try to kill himself. Unlike this cop, she had fought him before. She slipped past Takahashi and Teddie, but she stopped a single step past the bear.
"Do you trust Souji?"
Teddie looked up and glared, "What does that mean!?"
She turned and narrowed her gaze, "Do you trust Souji? You're willing to die for him, but do you trust him?"

Takahashi was rather worried himself, though for a different reason. Before, suicides and violent outbursts had been associated with people affected by the supposed "curse" related to Hinamizawa. It had been triggered by the death of the shrine maiden there and led to several violent deaths and suicides. It was possible people would think this was because of a similar curse.
As Izanami asked Teddie if he trusted Souji, Takahashi just kind of sat back and watched things. This situation was no longer under his control. As a perfectly normal human, he had no involvement. So he'd just have to watch for right now.

"Of course I trust him! I trust him more than anything!"
Izanami closed her eyes and turned. She took another few steps down the stairs, "Then you should trust that he wouldn't kill himself. That he wouldn't try to kill himself."
Teddie frowned at Izanami. She had a point, and that was potentially the most annoying thing about it. Izanami had a point. Sensei wouldn't try to kill himself. He'd never do that! Izanami turned towards Takahashi.
"He'll be taken the hospital correct? Take me...." she glanced at Teddie, "Take us there."

Takahashi sighed. "Look, as much as I'd like to, I'm really not supposed to take civilians in my cruiser unless I'm taking you to the station or something..."
And then he thought about something. Goddess. Curses. Yeaah, he really didn't need to piss this chick off.
"...On the other hand, if I tell the guys at the station about it, they'll probably understand. They're all kinda superstitious about stuff like this," Takahashi said. He started walking toward the shrine entrance. He supposed if he drove crazy fast he could get the two of them there without getting in trouble. Plus there was always the "maiden = Izanami" thing he could bring up.

Izanami gave Takahashi a flat stare. He seemed to get she was a goddess. He seemed to have an unnaturally high level of respect regarding the shrine. Humans would be humans though, so she prepared to give him a way around it. Then he spoke up. Izanami scowled.
"Humans spread information like it is going out of style. You will inform no one of my identity. As far as you know, I am Shin Sayuri. Mana was my cousin. Tell them what you must about Adachi and Izanagi, but don't mention me. You are resourceful, I am sure you can come up with some excuse as to how you know those things about your team mate and my brother."
"As for taking me to the hospital, won't they want someone to identify the body? If Souji is injured and under suspect for Adachi's assault, his testimony will not be as valuable."

Takahashi frowned. Well, she certainly didn't waste any time, did she? So his excuse was going to be that he was bringing her in to identify the body... Well, that would work. And Takahashi saw no problem with informing the others on the force what he needed to in order to clear things up.
"Yes ma'am, Izanami-sama," Takahashi said. He still needed to stay on Izanami's good side, after all. Which meant staying politer than normal.

Teddie looked annoyed at the shift to super formal Japanese from Takahashi. Izanami didn't eract one way or the other. It did seem the only one that knew her identity that had addressed her as such had been Masud. At least some mortals understood the difference between deity and man. She nodded and began down the steps again.
The blond wasn't happy with the situation, but he wasn't allowing himself to acknowledge the growing doubt. He did trust Souji, but he didn't trust Izanami. For the time being the first meant going along with the second. In a way, it was his unwillingness to trust her that had gotten "Mana" killed, and that could associate him in the responsibility for whatever had really happened to Souji. He headed down the stairs after her.
