Abilities/Powers: By repetition, Steven has gained a slight innate sense of his Pokemon's emotion, but most trainers do. Nothing else of note.
Skills: Quick to come up with an outside the box plan, though they don't always work.
Personality: Easygoing, but committed to his Pokemon.
History: Steven grew up in Johto in a small town off Goldenrod. Since he was about 8 he wanted a Cyndaquil of his own, and he started going to Goldenrod City regularly to try to figure out how to get one. The Game Corner drew him in, and he began playing the games there. After winning a good amount of coins, a special contest started. It took about ten times as many coins as he had, but the prize was one of the three Pokemon League-sanctioned starters of his choice!
Steven had to find a way to make the extra coins, quick, and a shady man at a table offered to help. He ran a shell game, and for all of Steven's coins, he would play one round, paying out ten times the original amount. Reluctantly, Steven agreed.
After the man shuffled the cups, one of which supposedly holding the ball, Steven almost reached for one, but the Cyndaquil yelped out to warn him. Steven looked up and noticed a flash of a grin on the man's face, and surmised that he was cheating. So Steven slapped down on the table, causing all the cups to jump up. The one with the ball would have bounced up less high, so the fraud was discovered.
The man gave the coins to Steven, who turned around and purchased the Cyndaquil. She had helped him when he needed her, so a bond formed between the two. He named her, Ryka.
Shortly after, Steven managed to New Bark Town to impress the professor, Elm, there to earn himself a Pokedex. So he began his venture through Johto.
