Madotsuki continued walking over to the new door that had appeared in the center of the Nexus. She opened it, and on the other side of the door was a plaza filled with many people. None of them seemed to notice the door to nowhere.
"I call this place Neo World. I think I'm gonna call it Terra Island now, though," Madotsuki said. She stepped through the door. If NiGHTs couldn't follow, that was no problem of hers.

NiGHTS' eyes widened as she opened a door. One that didn't lead to an aspect of Nightmare as doors of the Nightmare Gate should. But to the real world. He flew towards the door and put his arm through it. When it vanished he jerked back. He flexed his fingers to confirm they were still there.
He'd been to the real world of many dimensions before. But it had always been utilizing the power of Ideya. There was no direct gate between the Night Dimension and the Real World. NiGHTS looked out at her.
"I can't follow you into the real world! Maybe I'll see you again?"
In truth, NiGHTS had an insatiable curiosity forming. Madotsuki was different than anything the Nightmaren had ever encountered before. There were still the worries about what it implied for the Night Dimension, but NiGHTS was somewhat known for his "oooh, shiny!" frames of mind. And he'd hit another one. Even Octopaw would take second place to this development.

Madotsuki turned around, and raised an eyebrow before stepping back through the door. She looked up at NiGHTS with a confused look on her face.
"The real world? That can't be the real world, I... I don't go outside... And I'd have to wake up from the dream to go into the real world, anyways!" Madotsuki said. Now she was confused. She never had been able to go into the real world through a dream before.

There were a lot of things NiGHTS could have reacted to. A lot of things NiGHTS should have reacted to. But only one thing the Nightmaren did react to. And she more than reacted to it.
"....you don't go outside!?"
What kind of insanity was that!? What kind of person, what kind of anything chose to stay inside all the time!? That was crazier than Reala's blind loyalty to Wizeman. Even he got to go out. NiGHTS looked rather floored. He had even done a doubletake on Madotsuki when he'd heard it.

Madotsuki blinked. It couldn't have been that unbelievable. There were a lot of people in Japan like her. But NiGHTS was acting like this was odd.
"There's a lot of pressure on you in the real world... I couldn't deal with it, so I decided to live in my dreams instead," Madotsuki said. She looked a little depressed at this. "They wouldn't want a murderer like me out in normal society anyway."
And then things went straight to depressing. It, after all, had been her fault that Poniko had died. It was no wonder Poniko haunted her in her dreams as Uboa.

NiGHTS looked at Madotsuki as she mumbled about the pressure of the real world. NiGHTS had never gotten that. The dream demon had encountered more people than he could recount who claimed that. The one's that always stuck in his head the clearest were Elliot, Claris, Will, and Helen, but there had been others.
It was that so called pressure that allowed Nightmare to exist. It was rising above that pressure and the potential to face it that formed Ideya, and as a result, Nightopia. So Madotsuki not having Ideya related well enough to that pressure. But still. Not going out!?
"What do you mean, murderer?"
NiGHTS was not the most tactful entity in existance, nor did he really get the weight of what Madotsuki had said. It knew the word well enough, it came up in Nightmare a lot. People always had nightmares of being murdered, someone they cared about being murdered, losing themselves and becoming a murderer. Sometimes those that got murdered in Nightmare never appeared again. If they were so overcome by Nightmare and Wizeman was on a particular power high that day, a person who died in their dreams could die in real life.
The entire Night Dimension was fueled by the subconscious and what a person truly believed. It's what NiGHTS suspected was going on. Madotsuki's lucid powers allowed her to manifest a knife. The Nightmaren and few residents of the Night Dimension that manifested from the dimension itself as opposed to Nightopia or Nightmare could be "killed" by that knife. If Madotsuki thought she was really killing them, it was reason enough to consider herself a murderer. However, the concept of life and death didn't exist here beyond the occasional Visitor. At most, a resident of the world could be destroyed... and even then it merely took one dreaming of them again to revive them.

Madotsuki shook her head a couple times. How could she expect someone like NiGHTS to understand? She sat down and looked at the floor that wasn't really there, down at the odd floating Aztec-like design that littered her dreamscape.
"I killed Poniko. I pushed her into the street and now she's dead. She screams and screams but I can't do anything because I killed her!" Madotsuki said. "That's why Monoko and Uboa follow me... though Monoko's my friend now."

NiGHTS floated back to accomodate Madotsuki more. When she sat down he did as well. Well... sort of. She looked more like there was an invisible chair there. He wasn't really used to heart to hearts like this. After all, even the Visitors she hung out with tended to actually do things. Not that Nightmare was a really great place to do things. NiGHTS wanted to go to Nightopia, but he felt the need to stay here. Besides, this was a chance to get a Visitor out of Wizeman's clutches. Always a good plan.
He appeared to be really listening as Madotsuki spoke. His eyes widened as the Visitor mentioned one of the entities that wasn't quite Nightmaren but sure as hell wasn't Nightopian. And one that was most definently a high level Nightmaren. 2nd Class, easily.
"Hey, wait, you think that thing follows you around because of something you did...?" NiGHTS grinned and floated up. She shook her head, "That's just a manifestation of Nightmare! A Nightmaren, and one that can't help but follow him! Come on, get up! I bet it's hoarding your Ideya somewhere!"
NiGHTS wasn't really one for getting that people didn't get the Night Dimension. It had gotten worse since Owl showed up. NiGHTS never had to explain anything anymore. The jester-like creature held out its hand to help Madotsuki. It wasn't like they could Dualize if Madotsuki didn't have any Ideya, anyhow. The jester had figured out what he wanted to do. He wanted to get Madotsuki out of Nightmare by getting some of her Ideya back.

Madotsuki blinked for a moment. She didn't know what these "Ideya" things were, but this NiGHTS person was saying he could help her? After a moment, she took NiGHTS' hand.
"Okay," she said. "Poniko lives in a house out in the middle of an island on a lake. Do you know how to get there?"

NiGHTS looked annoyed for a second. Actually, no. She'd split off from Wizeman before this Nightmare began appearing. And spent most of his time in Nightopia. He'd heard of this particular nightmare, but people fifty feet under a rock for a millenia had. It was rather infamous. She finally settled on shaking her head.
"I don't spend much time here," she puffed out her cheeks, "I really dislike it. You know your way around though, right?"
She also knew what the place looked like. The Nightmaren Madotsuki had spoken of was just as famous as the Nightmare. Even without the fuel granted from Madotsuki's subconscious, it was on the highest ends of level 2 Nightmaren. NiGHTS suspected Wizeman had assigned it to this dream to further antagonize the Visitor.

Madotsuki nodded at NiGHTS and pointed toward a purple door. That particular door lead to the Snow World. And through the Snow World was the way to the Pastel Shore, where Poniko's home was. She honestly didn't get why NiGHTS disliked her dream world as much as he did. Or these "Ideya" things. But she supposed it was nice to have some companionship for once.
If only just that once.
She opened the door up, and it opened up to a snowy world. The landscape was completely flat other than an igloo out in the distance. She manifested a bicycle and didn't bother to check if NiGHTS was following before biking off toward the igloo.

NiGHTS was flying right behind her. His arms were spread to either side. The limited sparkles coming from his finger tips actually interacted rather well with the environment. It was pretty. He caught sight of a snow woman out of the corner of his eye. Madotsuki really was odd among Visitors to Nightmare. Her own psyche manifested things not Nightopian or Nightmaren, perhaps a coping mechanisim to allow her lucid dreaming without overloading herself.
Most Visitors would argue the point. But Madotsuki's Nightmare actually made more sense than a lot of them. It had a system, rules. Madotsuki couldn't use he full powers without following those rules. One of them was that she had to earn her "powers". And those powers remained earned even when she left. It was possible it was something like himself when he'd regained his Persona. Wizeman certainly hadn't handed them back, after all.
NiGHTS caught the sparkle of her fingers as she refocused on Madotsuki, "Hey, you don't think much of me, do you?"

Madotsuki barely acknowledged NiGHTS when he spoke, only barely looking up at him. To Madotsuki, he was just another being from her dreams. Though he was a bit annoying. She shrugged and continued riding her bike toward a different igloo, waving to a sleeping little girl inside a nearby one as she passed by.
It was a very long ride until the two of them reached an igloo that didn't seem any different from the others, but was very different on the inside. The inside was completely filled with a pink colored pool of water.
"That's the way to the Pastel Lake," Madotsuki said. She got off of her bike. "We'll have to go through the lake to get to Poniko."

NiGHTS realized she was being ignored. Not that it was hard to miss. She kept quiet until they reached the igloo. He flew over the water. He was kind of blocking Madotsuki's route becuase of it, too. He glanced down at the liquid before looking back up at Madotsuki.
"You know, I wasn't just making conversation. See this?" NiGHTS lifted up a hand and some very faint sparkles came out, "They're supposed to be a lot brighter. If you think I'm weak, I will be. That's the power of the Night Dimension."
NiGHTS was still floating over the water, effectively blocking Madotsuki's route. NiGHTS wanted to get this out now. It was clear by that Nightmaren's power levels that Madotsuki had a clear idea of how strong it was. And the way NiGHTS' own powers were lagging was also a clear indication. Most Nightmarens weren't articulate, but the one commonly known as Uboa was. There was a reason it was ranked among the top of the 2nd level 'Marens. And as things stood, NiGHTS knew he would be lucky to be ranked as a high 3rd level, with the power of Madotsuki's subconscious elevating Uboa to 1st in power levels.
This was one of many reasons she hated Nightmare.

Well, Madotsuki had walked in on NiGHTS as he was getting his ass beat by Reala. She exactly didn't have a good first impression in the strength division. And NiGHTS had convinced her to go after Poniko. Which only lead to that screaming thing best described as Uboa. That was the only thing to call it. The sound it made wasn't quite "uhoa", it was more muted than that. Hence, Uboa.
"Poniko's too strong. I know you want to try to fight her, but you'll just get trapped in that sea of blood with that other monster. I can get out, but you can't," Madotsuki said. It was probably the most she'd said to NiGHTS at once that whole day. She pointed to a spot on her cheek where she often pinched herself when she noted that she could get out. "But I'm still coming."
