Finn got a somewhat far away look in his eyes. Said oculars got somewhat misty as he looked away from Maxwell for a moment. When he looked back, he was as normal as ever, if seemingly tired. It had been a long day, after all. Even awesome 13 year olds wearing awesome hats got a bit fatigued every now and then.
"Yeah... she probably would." Finn responded, giving a small smile to no one in particular. To the particularly observant, it would be obvious that it was to himself. He quickly pulled himself back to the situation at hand, though, turning once more to face the penguin. He opened his mouth and held up a single finger in indignation, seemingly preparing to say something along the lines of 'get out of my backpack'. His finger fell shortly, though, and his reprimanding look softened. He sighed.
"Okay, Gunther. As long as you don't try to break any of my stuff, we're cool, dude." Finn said, walking over and slipping his arms back into his backpack. He hesitantly reached back his prized music box, ready to pull back if the penguin looked like he or she was going to throw it.

Maxwell reached up under his hood and scratched his head at Finn's response. The other boy was about his age, right? He'd know his parents, right? I mean, if he'd done something stupid like mentioned dead parents (that thought was just now occuring to the boy) Finn wouldn't have looked like his eyes had been replaced with nostalgia lenses, right? Maxwell stuck his pencil in his pocket and walked over to Finn as he grabbed the backpack and put it back on his back.
Gunter took the music box and gave it a tentative peck. When it didn't pop open, she shoved it down into the backpack in front of her. She flapped her flippers up and down, "Wenk wenk wenk!" but didn't cause any more trouble than that. Maxwell stopped when he was in front of Finn and pointed over his shoulder towards the mountains they'd come from, roughly.
"Uh, what was that about back there, anyways? It sounded like you freaked out when I said I was human, but that's silly, right?"

Finn scratched his face at Maxwell's question. That was... odd. He'd assumed it was common knowledge in the land of Ooo that he was the last human. Or at least, so he'd thought, as clearly Maxwell was yet another of his supposedly extinct race. Curios and curiouser... and even curiosier.
"Yeah man, don't you know? We're the last hu... mans..." Finn rubbed his chin, a lightbulb seemingly going off in his head. He brought a hand to his forehead, giving himself a slight slap.
"Duh! I'm the last human in the land of Ooo. But we're not in Ooo, because we're... in another..." Finn brought his hands to his face then, eyes glittering with pure delight. His mouth curled into his most charming of smiles.
"We're in another dimension, man!" Finn called to his companion, turning to face him, arms wide in excitement.

Now would have been a wonderful time for Maxwell to respond. Like, the fact that the other kid had figure out the dimensions thing. That was kind of a bad thing. Normal peo... well. People that weren't Scribblenauts or dimension hoppers or something like that weren't supposed to know that. Now would have been a great time to mention that and Maxwell totally would have.
Except, unknown to either boy, a silver portal had sort of opened up above the trees. And a young lady was depositied out of it. She barely had time to react before she was plummeting to the ground below. Instead of screaming like most young ladies in her situation would do, she swung into action. rather literally, as her left arm extended and grabbed the top of a tree on the way down. She spun around, reaching with her other hand for the branch to do so. She attempted to leap off a branch but hadn't been expecting the ice she certainly had not been in the Ice Queen's Kingdom! And so she slipped. She finally let out a surprised shout.
So Maxwell was forced to look up with an expression that was entirely "now what". And something white and blue and denim and green suddenly shut past him into a snow bank, INCREDIBLY COOL white hat first. Said bank swallowed her up to her hips, leaving the poor girl to shake her legs aimlessly trying to get out. She had on a denim skirt, and due to her unfortunate position everyone could see the white short shorts underneath. At least it wasn't panties! Her black shoes and tall white socks were quite visible though, as was the gold and pale blue bladed sword with the green knotted root hilt that had fallen just behind her and lodged itself in the ground. Actually, it just looked like a color swap from Finn's.
"Smmomm hemmp eee!" came a muffled female voice from the snow drift.

Finn stumbled backwards in surprise as he heard the surprised shout, pulling his sword free of its position on the side of his backpack. He calmed down upon realizing it wasn't a threat, but rather what seemed to be a helpless young lady. Well. Helpless in a manner of speaking. Carrying around a cool sword was by no means a sign of helplessness. He put his sword back in its makeshift hilt, relaxing. It was around this point that he noticed her white short shorts. His eyes widened, cheeks reddening. He gulped a bit, approaching her. She did seem to need help.
He grabbed her ankles, pulling her free. He lost his balance, stumbling backwards onto his bum. Luckily, he landed on what appeared to be a very soft patch of snow. He groaned a bit. Today had not been going at all well. Max seemed pretty cool, but otherwise, yeah. He looked towards the new arrival, eyes widening. She looked familiar... wait... wasn't she... but that would imply...
"Ice King!" Finn exclaimed, getting to his feet and quickly backtracking, looking up in the general direction she'd seemed to come from. There was no doubt about it, she fit the description of the main character of Ice King's fanfiction to a "T". And there was no other logical explanation for a fanfiction character being...
"Oh, right. Other dimension." Finn said to himself, rubbing his forehead. Today was giving him a migraine.

Maxwell had pretty much tripped over his own legs and fallen backwards at the new arrival as well. Pencil and notebook flew into the air, but thankfully they landed right on his chest. He was sitting up, making sure his tools were in one piece, when Finn managed to yank the older girl out of the snow. That was... wearing a different version of Finn's clothes? Um, okay? He tilted his head sideways when Finn shouted "Ice King" at her, wondering if that was her name. He really didn't have long to wonder because the older girl in Finn's outfit's eyes widened and she jerked her head around.
"What? Where?!" she jerked her head towards Finn and grabbed his shoulders, shaking him and looking down at him, "Where's the Ice King?! I'm like his biggest fan you totally have no idea!!"

Today really wasn't the young teen's day. Sword-boarding down the side of a mountain while another lad hung onto his back? He could handle that, that was no problem. It wasn't any different from the shenanigans he went through on a day to day basis. But talking to girls, even if said girls were gender-swaps of himself written by his arch-nemesis? Man, where was Jake when he needed him? Finn's eyes widened in panic as she shook him and questioned him. He was like an incredibly panicked deer caught in a set of incredibly bright headlights.
"Uh... Gunter probably knows more than I do, you should... talk to himher." Finn stammered, reaching back and pulling his backpack around to his front. He gave an imploring sideways glance towards Maxwell.

Maxwell had opened his mouth to ask what the two were going on about when...
"Ice Queen!!!"
Fionna yanked the backpack out of Finn's hands and threw it against a tree. In an impressive smooth motion Gunter actually managed to dive out of the backpack and grab it, using her own body to shield it from impacting the tree and thus keeping everything inside safe. As soon as Fionna had thrown the backpack, she'd rolled forward and yanked her sword out of the ground, spinning around and taking an offensive stance towards the tree.
"You probably don't know but those penguins are totally aligned with the Ice Que-..." she stopped and suddenly looked like she'd kick a puppy, "Oh gob, did that protect your backpack? Why would it do that!"
"Uh...." Maxwell lifted a finger, half expecting to get interuppted again.
"WENK WENK WENK!" Gunter was now yelling at Fionna, flapping her arms with the safe backpack just behind her.

Finn's eyes widened as his backpack was thrown. He really should have left his mom's music box at home today. Honestly. Regardless, Gunter luckily protected his backpack. Which was good, because based on the situation playing out, it looked like he might have to leap to her defense. And it would have been so much harder to do if he was distracted by a broken music box. This was no time for musing, however. He quickly leaped into action, quite literally, grabbing his sword from the spot it had fallen when Fionna had shaken him just a few seconds ago, flipping over her and landing between she and Gunter. He held it at the ready, in what he hoped looked like an obvious defensive position. He wasn't looking for a fight of some sort, after all.
"No, no, it's cool! It's one of the Ice King's penguins. I've fought that jerk enough to know that they're not... all... bad..." Finn trailed off a bit, slapping his unoccupied hand over his mouth. Right. Telling the Ice King's biggest fan that the two had fought was maybe not the best idea. But he was under pressure here, so he made a teeny tiny mistake.

Fionna's eyes widened when Finn said that Gunter was one of the Ice King's penguins. She jerked her head towards Finn, her aggressive stance losing most of its oomph, when Finn let out that the Ice King was a jerk and proceeded to slap his hand over his mouth. The older teenager blinked a couple of times before frowning and putting her hands on her hips.
"He is totally not a jerk he's just really misunderstood! I bet he wouldn't act so bad if you didn't fight him all the time! I mean, if that's one of his penguins that totally explains why it so nice! The Ice Queen's penguins would never defend someone's backpack!" she was glaring at Finn now.
"Um.... guys?" Maxwell tried to get a word in edgewise again.

Well, this was... simply not going well for Finn at all. He'd expected a lot of things when he began to realise the scope of their current situation. That it was one of Ice King's tricks, that he was dreaming, or that Jake was imagining things again. After Fionna landed, he expected even more things. That she would be a bit confused, maybe even incredibly disoriented. Her being Ice King's fan, he'd expected that, because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't forget that fanfic he and Jake had been forced to listen to. He even expected her to defend him as a result!
What he didn't expect, however, was that she would imply that he himself was some kind of... bully. That one really stung, man.
"He steals princesses! If I didn't fight him all the time he'd take them back to his castle and... and... stare at them!" Finn exclaimed, jumping to his own defence. He turned to Maxwell then, frown not quite leaving his face.
"Yeah dude?"

"Well maybe he's just trying to get your attention! I mean, you obviously beat him up every time he steals one so maybe he just wants friends! I bet he'd totally be a really kicking guy if you'd stop beating him up all the time!"
Max had opened his mouth to respond when Fionna shouted back at Finn. By this point her hands were on her hips, her sword facing backwards. Maxwell put his palm to his face as Fionna cut off his attempt to talk. Girls. He'd rather deal with his evil clone any day.

Finn opened his mouth to prepare a rebuttal, but promptly closed it again. His expression was one of pure frustration, as he raised his right index finger, preparing once more to make a statement. This, too, fell flat, his finger falling limp and his mouth snapping shut. This continued for a few more moments, before he tossed his arms into the air in frustration. He turned from Fionna then, crossing his arms.
"Fine! Whatever! Maybe the Ice King is a pretty mathematical guy! And hey, maybe the Ice Queen's just his misunderstood secret admirer! But it doesn't matter, because he only cares about stealing princesses!" Finn's face was set in stone. Implying that he was some sort of bully once was bad enough, but twice? He wasn't going to stand for that. Or sit for it, for that matter!
