"That she is. But it's not your fault. Sometimes you just gotta put your foot down for kids her age. I'm Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Friends call me Mal." Mal extended his hand to Zero.
'The power to make posts shorter' should've gone into the Abilities/Power section on his app.

Zero chose not to argue Mal's misconception. He extended his own hand and gave a firm shake. To those that judged a person by a handshake, Zero seemed a pretty decent guy, "Zero Nada. I tend not to be the type that attracts 'friends'. So, how'd you get dumped here?"

"Basically, my crew and I were stealing a powerful item. There was some 'portal' thingamajig in the middle of the room. My weapons man decided it was a good idea to press the on button. Which is how I got here. Rest of the crew were back on the ship, waiting for us." Mal responded.
He completely ignored Zero's... interesting name. I mean, he traveled on a ship with folk with names like River, Kaylee, Jayne(Jayne being a guy...), and Wash.

"I wouldn't count on running into them any time soon. Portals onto this island, except for a few rare exceptions, tend to be one way. And the time flow is pretty messed up, so even if you spend a year hear a second might pass for your crew. Vice versa is true as well. You said ship, right? Jugding by your weapon, I'm assuming you mean a spaceship?"
Zero didn't seem to be in the least bit phased about the "stealing" part.

"Spaceship indeed. I pilot a Firefly, named Serenity. Where I come from, Firefly are usually considered 'pieces of junk'... probably because she doesn't have any onboard weapons. But she's fast. I'm sure my crew's working fervently to reach me, and will probably get here within a year our time, and maybe five days their time. While I wait, I feel I should get to know more about this... island thing." Mal wasn't deterred by Zero's lack of response to the 'stealing' bit. Quite to the contrary. It made him seem that much a better person.

Zero sighed, "You don't understand the concept of different dimensions do you? Unless those Firefly ships can traverse the multiverse, they could fly to the end of the galaxy and not find you. As for the island, there isn't really much to see. Its a multiversal nexus. That girl isn't the strangest thing you'll find, really. I can take you to the only real city the place has if you want," Zero pointed towards some tall buildings in the distance, "It's called Void City. If you're still confused as to the whole multiverse, I suggest we go by way of the Dimension Island's edge. The void there might help with things."
Zero wasn't trying to be rude in the least. Humans often had trouble grasping things like the mulitverse. What Mal might have picked up on, however, is that Zero showed no signs of having ever heard of a "Firefly", at least not in the ship sense.

"I think I'll probably come to understand this 'multiverse' concept as time passes. Theoretically, Jayne could always follow me through the portal... not like the lazy ass will. I'd like to see something... not organic, yeah. Long as it's not populated by Alliance or anything." Mal responded, turning to face the visible buildings.

Zero raised an eyebrow, "You don't like trees? Raised in the city or somethng?" He shook his head, "You don't have to answer. If we're going to go by the edge of the island, the route is a little longer. Here, this way," Zero didn't wait to see if Mal had any intentions of following him. He was actually a little grateful that Chibi Moon hadn't decided to state that his goal in things was to delete all realities. For as laid back as this captain seemed to be, he somehow doubted he'd look kindly on that.
(OOC: I'm not going to make a post for the Edge of the Island just cause it would be too short. Zero's taking him to Void City via that route, so you can have Mal see the void in your next post if you like. I always pictured the void as a sort of swirling mass of nothing. It makes no sense, but its basically varying shades of darkness in a miasmic chaos. It'll clearly show he's not really in a normal "world" so to speak)

Quite frankly, he expected more than a void of nothingness. He'd expected it to be FANTASTICAL, AND BRIGHT, AND COLORFUL. Not a dull, boring, mass of nothing that branched off into more nothing. Sure, it drove the point home that, well... this island was pretty much the only thing around for miles upon light years upon more miles. Needless to say, the man could only stare, dumbfounded, at the void of... void.
"...huh."

Zero paused as Mal came to a stop to look at the void. Zero was used to things like the void. You didn't nearly destroy the world and stare down the face of said world's gods, some of which had direct power over the dimension void, and not be used to voids. He had been aware the entire time he was sealed, and the nothingness he was sealed within had been pretty void-like. So none of it was a surprise.
He walked over to the man, "You could fall off the edge of the Island and you'd die of dehydration before hitting the bottom. There is no bottom. Don't try to grasp it, its like the number zero. Infinity and complete nothingness are one and the same, and its not something anyone can grasp."
Any human, that is...
"It'll take us about another hour at this pace to get to the city."
Actually for Zero it could have taken a second. But that would have required entering the Island's network, something no human could do. Even with Zero's help. So they had to walk.

"So what you're saying is this void thing right here is basically full of nothin' and more nothin'. And that if I were to fall off of here I'd die from dehydration before I had a heart attack over the fact that I just feel into a lot of nothin'?" Mal asked in response, eyes glued to the void for but another moment.
The thing to understand here is that where Malcolm came from, there was always SOMETHING SOMEWHERE. There weren't just... random voids of nothing. Unless you count space. And even it had stars and planets to fill the void.
"Well this is one place I hope Jayne ends up if he's smart enough to get the portal thing working again."

Zero smirked somewhat darkly, "If you didn't go insane from the inability to grasp infinity, right," Zero paused, "You keep mentioning Jayne. She always cause issues like this?"
In Zero's defense, "Jane", even alternate spellings, was a pretty feminine name.

Mal paused for a moment. He supposed it was a simple mistake, sure. All he had to do was correct Zero and move on. Yep, just let him know that Jayne was a guy. All he had to do. Very, very simple. Which is exactly why he didn't do it.
"Oh, yeah. She causes problems like this all the time. Her and her boyfriend, a fella named Inara." Mal responded.
Ah, yes. The joys of being able to discreetly mock his public relations man and onboard companion.

Zero caught the pause, but said nothing of it. He certainly didn't think that Mal was totally genderswapping probably the clearest examples of their respective gender stereotypes on his ship. If anything, he would have guessed the man was surprised he'd asked. Zero turned and headed off towards the direction they had been walking before pausing and looking back to make sure Malcolm was behind him.
It was almost humorous how... prettily the white haired man's hair flowed.
