"I'll be waiting out here," she repllied to the shut door.
This is going to be a fun ride.... Beth thought as she took a seat at the kitchen table.

Chief turned the slightly rusty shower handle, and as the water rained down noisily, he sighed in satisfaction. How long had it been since he had had a shower? It had been at least.... a month? Being shunted from one crisis to another did not lend well to showers. Carefully, he unclasped his undersuit and stepped into the steaming droplets, smiling. Perhaps being stranded in a combat-free zone did have its advantages. He quickly finished his shower, before toweling off and donning his undersuit again.

Beth waited outside like she said she would.
"Wonder what all he's seen...." she mumbled under her breath.

As he opened the door and exited with a rush of steam, he half-caught a mumbled question from Beth. “What was that?” he asked.

"Just curious about what all you've seen," she answered half heartedly. "Shower feel good?"
She was trying to cover the feeling of possibly actually knowing who the man was.

“It was nice,” he answered. “I don’t get enough of them. And to answer your question, I’ve seen lots of things. Things you should never see.” Only the fact that he was a SPARTAN, and SPARTANs didn’t shudder, kept him from doing so.

"Try me," she replied with a smirk. "I may not be a solider like yourself but I have fought." Beth watched him, waiting for his reaction.

“I’ve seen children lying dead in the streets, mutilated almost beyond recognition. I’ve seen people eaten alive—still screaming. I’ve seen entire worlds rendered lifeless, millions killed in hours. I’m one of the few survivors of a war that lasted generations, and almost wiped out humanity. And worst of all...” He paused. “I’ve seen the destruction that the Forerunners and the Flood can wreak.”

Beth nods. "I see," she whispers looking down.

He sighed. “It’s not a fun universe sometimes. But it was harsher than most to me.” He brightened marginally as he stepped into his boots. “Good thing is, you won’t have to worry about the Flood or the Forerunners here. If this really is an alternate dimension, they don’t exist here.”

"I'll agree to that," Beth replied with a nod. "But sometimes in an alternate universe has them too. That's the thing with alternates you never know what to expect."

He paused, and then resumed putting on his armor. “As long as we don’t go poking around in long forgotten ruins or carelessly exploring space, I think we’ll be fine.” He looked up. “We aren’t going extraplanetary, are we?”

Beth thought for a few seconds.
"Don't think so," she answered calmly.

“Good,” he finished along with the completion of his armor. Suit integrity read green, all systems nominal—he was good to go. “Now, let’s get moving, shall we?” he asked.

Beth nodded. "Its rare for someone to seem familiar here for me. But yet somehow you remind me of my old home," she commented as she put on a black jacket with a stylized pheonix on the back. "It takes a lot to do that Chief... Or should I be calling you Master Chief?"
