As this went on, Alex took a closer look at Bowser, doing his best to figure out where the exponential energy source was coming from the young turtle. There had to be some sort of answer to this.....
Wait....
Maybe....?
"My name is Alex, Warrior of Void." He fakes a smile. "And should you ever need a hand of any kind, I'd be willing to help. Perhaps I can hold your things? You look like you are holding quite the load there young sir."

Evan didn't recognize the stone, but he didn't let this cluelessness show. Surely the others would know what it was, and even still, he was 99% sure this was what had caused that surge of power earlier. Weird-looking gems had a tendency to do that, after all.
"Of course, my king," Evan continued. "It would be a shame to lose a beauty like that. But I can assure you that my comrades and I will do everything in our power to keep your treasures safe. Only the best protection for such a noble cause."
He cast a quick glance at Carter and the others, then faced Bowser again. "In fact, I had hoped to elaborate a plan to retrieve the Paramount Key from the demon that now holds it. In my haste to do so, I had so rudely ignored you, and I do apologize for that."

..... Alex's eyes WIDENED at what he was seeing. NOW he knew what the energy was and he fully recognized it due to this. He sent a look to Pieter before turning back to Bowser. "Hmmmm... An intriguing gemstone, I have to say." He held out his hand. "Here, I'll hold onto it for you, m'lord."
A CHAOS EMERALD!! He supposed he should've figured he'd see them eventually.... BUT EVEN STILL, SEEING THESE THINGS WAS PRETTY CONCERNING... More then ever, Alex needed to hold onto his cool. Once he got that emerald away from Bowser, they'd be safe... Come on... Take the bait....

Pieter gasped internally as he looked at the item. His eyes glanced at Alex before nodding. "I believe that Alex can take good care of your stone for you, milord."
He really hoped that Bowser would buy it. Chaos Emeralds had incredible power... and it could easily be misused.

Now this got the young king to raise an eyebrow. "Hold the phone- why do YOU guys need to hold it?" he asked, staring back down at the gem. "Everytime Kamek takes something from me, it's usually..." H looked like he was thinking about this one. "...hmmmmmm."

Dang it, the kid's catching on, Evan thought to himself. What now? Think of something. Come on, douchebag, think of something!
When it became clear that Evan was at a loss, Carter sprang into action. "Evan, follow my lead."
Hearing this, Evan watched as Carter sniffed around, stopping a few steps beyond the group and staring ahead ever alert. "What? What is it, boy?"
Carter quickly spelled out his idea, to which Evan nodded and "translated" for the others. "Carter can sense the Paramount Key's location. It's closer than we thought. Chances are the demon who has it will soon seek out other treasures."
He gave Bowser a confident look. "I know of this demon's might, and while I don't at all doubt your great power, my king, I would never forgive myself if I let that monster lay a finger on you in pursuit of your gem. If one of us were to die protecting it for you, the loss would not be as tragic. You must trust us, my lord; no one is safe until the Paramount Key is in your hands."

Dracorum kept their head lowered waiting for Bowser to give a command.
"My liege if I may offer my advice. A gem of that size will only weight you down. This key that the boy speaks of sounds much more powerful and of a much lighter weight," Dracorum offered calmly.
