"You're very welcome," Patrick said, giving Beth a friendly pat on the hand.
Van was getting impatient. Patrick... what about TOBY?
Patrick was about to respond, but quickly bit his lip. Normally he didn't have an issue verbally addressing his inner voices... but somehow he didn't have the nerve to do it in front of this girl. He didn't know why, but he was feeling extremely self-conscious right now.

She smiled. "Go do what you have to do," she offers.

"What? But-" How did she know? Could she hear Van or... could she just tell that he had other obligations? Whatever the case, Patrick didn't feel ready to leave.
He sighed, his head dropping slightly. "It can wait." He looked back up and asked, "Why are you in here all by yourself?"

"I'm a siren. And I don't want to die again," she answered."I attract people and could weave them to do unsavory things... It's more for everyone's protection...."

"Oh..." Patrick felt his heart fall to his feet, eyes sadly moving away. "That's... I'm sorry about that. I-I don't know what to say."
I knew this was coming... Van sighed. I think it's best if we leave now-
"No," Patrick cut in. "No, I... I don't want you to be all alone like this. I... wanna help."

She sighed.
"No. You can help me by getting out. I can tell that I already have a good grip on you. Go do what you need to and then comeback. I'll still be here when you're done," Beth replied.

Patrick blinked sadly. "Are you sure? I wouldn't want to just..."
When Van spoke up again, it was much more sympathetic than before. Patrick... it's for the best. Whether or not she's doing it intentionally, she is deceiving you. Your desire to stay is not entirely your own.
He didn't respond.
You mustn't worry about her. Think about Toby.
"Right..." he mumbled, slowly standing up. "I-I should go. Thanks for... singing that for me. I-"
Suddenly, Patrick perked back up as an imaginary light bulb lit up over his head. "Hey! D-Do you think maybe you could help me?"
Patrick!
Oh, F*** A DUCK!!

Beth raised an eyebrow.
"How? Or what do you need help with? she asked in a quizical tone.

"My friend's gone missing. I've been trying to find him for the past few..." Patrick checked his nonexistent watch. "Whatever. The thing is... he's kinda transformed into a demonic form, so I don't know where he is or if he'll attack me when I find him. But maybe... maybe if you come with me, your singing could lure him out and calm him down."
He held up his hands. "That is... if you want. I'd hate to force you to do something you don't want."

Beth thought for a bit.
"What kind of demon are we talking here?" she replied with a smirk.

"It's called a Præt'nos, which is sorta like a big shadow demon," Patrick explained. "Inside, he's still human... or at least we think he is; he definitely acts more like a human than a demon. But that's not the point. The point is he's big, black, and controls shadows, so he'll probably either be someplace really dark or -if his human mind is still in control- really light."

Beth nodded. "That sounds like a Neo-Shadow, but that's besides the point. Sure I'll help," she replied with a small smile. "Is there a song that your friend likes?"

Patrick had to think that one over for a moment. Toby had always been the hardest person in the valley to understand, so his taste in music wasn't exactly common knowledge. He wished Jason and Therel were here; being Toby's roommates, they might've known.
"Hmm..." Ultimately, Patrick decided that it had to be a calming, somber song by someone that he knew for a fact he and/or Evan had shared with Toby. "There's this Owl City song called 'Silhouette' that I know he's heard... You know that one?"
(Let's not have her sing it yet. There's something else I'd like Pat to do first.)

Beth nodded. "I think I do. Owl City is a pretty good group. I saw them live once," she answered.

"Aw, lucky!" Patrick responded. "Well, then, no time to waste! Let's-"
Patrick, if I may, Van cut in. Perhaps I could send out a tracking spell before we go.
"Ah, right..." He held up a finger to Beth. "If you would give me a moment."
He then turned and walked to the back of the theater, closing his eyes and whispering, "Just promise me you won't force her away."
I promise, Van replied as he assumed control of their shared body.
When he opened his eyes again, they were more pea green than emerald green. Van took a moment to breathe before sitting down in a meditative posture. Yellow magical energy formed into a circle beneath him, patterned with runes, lines, and an off-center six-pointed star. Then a gentle, transparent wave spread out from the circle, passing painlessly through everything it touched. A few seconds later, Van stood back up.
"There are a lot dark auras in the area," he said, a slight British accent in his voice that wasn't there before. "It's hard to pinpoint which is his. Though there was a distinctly Præt'nos-like aura in the cemetery."
