"Nonsense! Trust me, they'll be more than happy to give you a hand." Kendall gave her an encouraging slap on the arm. "Who are they to deny you the rest you need? Now come on!"
He rushed towards the door, only to stop and remember his gift. Once he had retrieved that, he exited the church and unfolded his wings. "Let's hit it!"

Ace calmly followed him, amused by his enthusiasm. However, she was a little hesitant to open her wings, finding herself ashamed of their current black color. She had to take a deep breath and close her eyes before mustering enough courage to unfold them, and even then, the knowledge that they were there, charred black as a symbol of her fall from grace, made her wings feel like lead weights on her back.

Kendall smiled and held Ace's chin up. "Hey, don't fret. No one's gonna judge you by those wings; not while I'm around. And the guys won't hold it against you either. Now follow me."
Right before he took off, he added, "Everything will be just fine. I promise." And then he lifted himself into the air and made way for the apartment complex.

Ace allowed herself to smile and nod at Kendall's words. Then she watched him take off before picking herself up and following him into the sky. Though she wouldn't dare say this out loud, this was her first time flying in a long, long time, and being up here with the wind in her hair and the land passing by beneath her, she realized that she had forgotten how much she loved this.
For the first time in months... years, even... Ace felt free again.
Maybe this really is it, she thought to herself. Maybe this is my chance to make everything right again.
Kendall couldn't see it while she was behind him, but Ace's smile had only gotten wider. Thanks, Kendall. Thanks for believing in me when no one else has.
