"Sure. Take all the time you need," she commented.

"I wasn't talking to you!" Patrick said. "Now, if you don't mind, I got ghosts to bust!" He started turning around...

The chain's end wrapped around his midsection. "Leaving so soon? I thought you'd rather try to fight mage," she teased.

"GAH!" Patrick struggled for a moment before turning back around and raising his hand. Green light illuminated his palm, and likewise, a green, ethereal circle decorated with runes and six-pointed stars formed next to the chain. A semi-transparent sword rose from the circle, glowing with light of the same color, and swung itself at the chain, snapping it in half before vanishing.
Once free, Patrick made a run for it. He watched over his shoulder as he cast another spell, this one creating a purple arcane circle that caused the earth beneath them to burst out of the floor and block off the hallway.
"Alright..." he murmured. "Probably haven't seen the last of her, but first I gotta get these ghosts."

"Really? That's your best shot mage boy~" she teased before flying skyward and weaving through the rafters.

Patrick kept running until he found the ghost he had last tried to catch; it was in the remains of a waiting room, looking behind a help desk for something. He wasted no time shooting the proton beam at it, managing to trap it this time. Again he created a portal beneath it, which sucked in the ghost and was then sealed shut.
"Whoo!" Patrick jumped for joy and pumped a fist. "Two down, one to go!"

The fallens started to watch from the rafters again. Plotting and debating what to do.

As soon as Patrick took his first step to find the last ghost, a loud crash rang from behind him. Then a gurney rolled out from a nearby hallway. Then not one, not two, but three ghosts emerged from different walls and disappeared into another.
"Okay, more than one," Patrick sighed. He craned his neck to look through the half-destroyed ceiling, then took a deep breath and continued on his way.

She smirked. Time to chase my prey yet again~, she thought as she kept following him.

With as much stealth as an uncoordinated 16-year-old with a heavy nuclear accelerator on his back could manage, Patrick snuck through the building, not wanting to drive the ghosts away now that they knew what he was capable of. He was going to catch them one way or another; there was no denying that.
Patrick, I think you've made your point, Van spoke up. Now that you've lived your fantasies, can we continue our search for the others?
"In a minute," Patrick whispered. "I gotta take care of this."
Who says you HAVE to?
Yeah, seriously, we got bigger fish to fry, Ray agreed. Plus, I feel like a dweeb in this thing.
"Hush up. So long as I'm in charge, we're catching these ghosts. Okey-dokey?"
So long as you're in charge, huh?
Ray, don't you DARE start that on us again, Van snapped.

One of the ghosts flew into the room right about then. Patrick took instant action and prepared to shoot at it, but all of a sudden, he became frozen in place, thrower aimed but not shooting anything. "What the-?"
Sorry, Pat, but I have to do this, Ray said.
Don't you dare! Van shouted. DON'T... YOU...!
The particle thrower slipped from Patrick's hands, hanging limply from the proton pack. Patrick screamed and grabbed his head, trying everything in his power to keep it together whilst his alternate personality once again tried to seize control.

...
Patrick calmly lowered his hands and took a deep breath. When he looked up, his green eyes had darkened, and when he spoke, his voice was deeper and gruffer.
"Van, I expected you to fight back more," Ray chuckled.
You're not off the hook, Van warned him. Don't try any funny business. Just get us away from here so we can-
Ray immediately fired a blast of red magical energy all throughout the building. Shortly afterwards, the ghosts that had not yet been captured flocked to him, ready to mindlessly accept his orders. "Now THIS is more like it."
It took Van a while to speak up again. You're dispicable.
Patrick said nothing.
