Mittens mewled again before planting itself on Toby's head.
Victoria giggled lightly. "Seems Mittens likes you a lot, Toby," she offered.

"...How about a complimentary meal?" Danny asked. "You really seem like you need one right now."

Toby froze up, not daring to move an inch and risk letting the kitten fall off his head. He couldn't bear to hurt anyone else...
"Um..." He blinked at Danny, not wanting to sound ungrateful for his generosity. "S-Sure, I guess... that sounds nice... Thank you..."

"You ain't going to hurt Mittens, Toby. She's a hardy little Serasphynx," she offered. "She's stared down a Snarbolax and won."
Mittens gave a happy mew.

His yellow, fingerless hand passed him a menu. "Pick whatever you'd like."
Mack got out of her seat, Ed just frowning. He wanted to do something, but wasn't sure what... Mackenzie, meanwhile, gently patted his back.

As he silently browsed the menu, Toby's eyes occasionally flicked Ed's way. He wasn't sure why, but Toby felt like he had seen him before somewhere...
Whatever the case was, he seemed pretty worried about the Præt'nos and their agenda, not that Toby could blame him. As he buried his face in the menu, for no particular reason, he softly murmured, "Sorry..."

Victoria offered a weak smile before getting out a few gold coins. "I'm paying for mine and Toby's," she offered calmly.

Mack gave a very light smile. "Don't appologize. It's not like you knew that was going to happen."
Ed kept himself quiet, trying to offer a similar smile.

Toby didn't respond. He didn't speak at all beyond ordering a chili dog. Once he had it, he simply ate in silence, staring at the bar, feeling confused, disheartened and overwhelmed.
There were only so many emotions he could balance at once.
He needed out.

Victoria quietly paid before leaving. Mittens followed closely behing.

Mackenzie soon left herself, giving Toby a "stay safe" as she left. Ed, however, stayed.
He wasn't sure why, but something about the possibility of being friends with a defiant demon just felt like it made sense to him. "Can I come with you to where you are going?" he asked. Blunt and to the point- that's Ed.

Toby gave Victoria and Mackenzie a half-hearted wave when they left, too down to really smile or speak. He had just finished his food and was about to depart himself when Ed spoke up.
"Um..." Toby was quite taken aback by Ed's question. After that fiasco back there, he wasn't sure why Ed was so keen to come with him. And even if that hadn't just happened... Toby knew by now that when people got too close to him... they got hurt.
"That's, uh... That's nice of you, but..." He fidgeted in his seat for a moment. Then he leaped out of it and dashed out the door. "...Y-YOU CAN'T! I'M SORRY! IT'S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!"

Ed blinked, his face bugging a little before he got up, looking ready to follow. "WAIT! TOBY, DON'T LEAVE!" he yelled. Danny sighed, looking around.
"Ed, don't just sit there- you already paid for what you owe me, so get going," Danny told him. Ed looked confused at first, but soon realized what he was saying.
-
Chompy gave a confused whine when Toby ran out, but Ed followed not far behind, getting on him. "AFTER HIM!" he cheered, the chomp hopping along- making a path for void city.
Ed didn't know where any of his old friends were- not his baby sister, not Double D, not Eddy, not Rolf. And he wasn't about to let a possible new friend just run away. Toby seemed like he really needed one.

While Ed made a beeline for the city, Toby sprinted down the beach, slowing down right by the water's edge. He skidded to a halt, leaned on his knees and panted, all the while holding back tears.
He was so tired of all this! He wasn't sure why he was here or what the Præt'nos wanted with him. All he knew was that he was the demons' plaything and anyone who got near him only suffered for it. There were so many people who wanted to help him... but he couldn't do that to them. His friends could protect him, but he couldn't protect everyone. On top of that... here, on this unfamiliar island, Toby was utterly alone. His friends from the valley were either off doing other things or still back home. Away from all this chaos. Where they belonged.
Ever since he arrived on Dimensional Island, Toby had been completely miserable.
He needed to get out of there.
Longing for an escape, Toby straightened up and focused his inner shadows into his hand. Dark mist curled through his fingers, condensing into black claws. Then, in one fluid motion, he slashed those claws against the open air, tearing open the void that separated all of space and time, and took a leap of faith through the portal.
On the other side, he landed on snowy ground, instantly overcome by the sudden decrease in temperature. But he didn't care. He had never been happier to see Summer Snow Valley in his life.
"TOBY!"
His reverie was interrupted by a familiar voice, and before he even knew what was going on, Elsa flew right past him and through the portal.
"HEY TOBY MISSED YA SO GREAT TO SEE YA GONNA CHECK OUT THE ISLAND BYYYYYYYYYYE!"
Toby watched Elsa disappear with wide, confused eyes. Then he sighed and closed the portal. That girl could do whatever she wanted. She would probably have more fun on that hectic landmass than he ever did. Likewise, he was going to enjoy his return to the valley, and nothing would tell him otherwise.
He was finally home.
