"Oh, so it's like a carriage, except it's not pulled by oxen?"
He snapped his fingers. "Okay, I got it. ... Hey, Ryan, can you drive? Because the entire concept of this is completely foreign to me." William sweatdropped. This was not turning out to be a relaxing vacation, even if it was an educational one.

Ryan nodded. "That metaphor isn't completely off based. Sure, let's go with that. And yeah I know how to drive. Most people here do. It's kind of a.... common skill the majority of the population develops shortly after they can do it legally (and a few before then)." He mentioned. "I imagine the girl in your head is shocked that you can't." He noted. "Anyways, I take it we have a destination, so I'm gonna be counting on you and Lydia to tell me where to go. Give me the keys and point me to the car we're grabbing."
Assuming William did exactly that, Ryan would quickly locate Lydia's vehicle with the other man's help and pull into the driver's seat. "Alright Will. You and Lydia can ride passenger." He said, opening the passenger side door, and familiarizing himself with the vehicle.
"So as I was saying.... where are we going?" Ryan asked, turning the key in the ignition, taking a moment to try and read Will's reaction to the car starting, and hoping the poor guy didn't freak out. Maybe he's from a world where technology hasn't advanced very far? But he can use magic... hmm.... maybe that's what they use instead? Either way, Ryan didn't want to startle William if this was his first time in a vehicle.

"Oh jeez. That's... noisier than the icebox we use when it's hot out to keep the house cool in the summer."
After whipping his head around to make sure there wasn't going to be anything popping out at them, William let himself relax slightly. "So, Lydia... where do we go? I'm gonna trust Ryan on operating this... car... Oh jeez, and you're telling me these things are common? The only thing we've got like this back home are the trains on Honni Island and the big bridges connecting Erpoue to Aicarme and the Saia-Fircaa borderlands..."

Okay, good. Lydia didn't want to imagine how quickly they might've been caught if they tried to make their getaway on foot. By Mexus or the people after her ship.
Soon after the boys piled into her beaten-up Honda, Ryan started up the engine while Lydia responded to William's uncomfortable inquiries. "Dude, if you think this bucket of bolts is a racket, you should see what I pilot for a living. But, y'know, later. Right now, tell him to head for the apartment complex. I gotta pick something up back home. And, uh... maybe secure yourself with that convenient belt hanging next to you. For both our sake."

"Yeah, pretty common-- wait you have trains? Yeah this woulda been a much better comparison. Like.... small, personal trains. That's not terrible. Without the need for tracks. Hmm. Maybe the cart WAS the better analogy? Ah well. Anyways."[/color] Ryan pulled out of the parking lot and started driving down the street. "So, until you tell me where we're going, I'm gonna head in the general direction of the residential area." He warned William. "So when Lydia tells you what to do, just let me know alright? If she's the person with the plan, I'm on-board." His eyes narrowed. "Nobody's gonna die. Not on my watch." And there was a certain commitment in his voice that wasn't there previously. A feeling that Ryan meant this.

"By Uranus's severed ballsack... I don't think I'll get used to this..."
Reaching over, William pulled the seatbelt over his body and clicked it in. "At least this is like the oxen-driven buggies when they're going over bad roads..." After mumbling a few prayers to himself, he allowed himself to inquire further. "Alright, Ryan, Lydia's gonna give me directions, I guess? Your job is to avoid getting us killed."

"Mr. Lowe?" Dr. Pendleton stepped into the break room, his expression surprisingly soft with concern. The moment he arrived, he froze up in the doorway, staring blankly into the empty room for a second or two before fully dashing inside and anxiously looking around, finding no trace of William or Ryan.
His eyes landed on the back door...
"SH*T...!" He turned away and leaned on a desk, gritting his teeth, pinching the bridge of his nose. How did he not see that coming? Of course she wasn't going to sit still. That much might've been obvious, but now he was left with the question of where she was dragging those poor kids and what kind of trouble they would get into. They were still very much in danger, more so out there than in here where he could at least keep an eye on them. They couldn't have had any idea what they were getting themselves into, but wouldn't she at least know how little time they had to waste?
Maybe she knew full well. Maybe she was...
"Lydia..."
For a while, all Dr. Pendleton could do was stand there and soak in the fact that his daughter was gone.
What was he supposed to do now?
