"No," Lydia bluntly responded, though it was clear from her tone that this was less of a demand or a direct order and more of a desperate, if exasperated insistence. "Max is a lot of things, but a secret-keeper isn't one of them. For the sake of maintaining whatever guise we may need and keeping this operation on the down-low, it's better that she doesn't know the whole story that she wants to tell. She'll be a lot safer for it, both from our enemies and from Mexus's looming wrath. Besides, it's... humiliating being this small."

"Okay, okay... I can get that. My lips are sealed, and hopefully Ryan doesn't become a Lacerated Larry." William pulled his glasses back on, not really noticing certain visual changes in the restroom. "Is it me, or did it get kinda hot? Ehh... Probably just me..."
How the hell did you not notice that? Oh well. This makes my job easier. If a bit less fun.
The blonde pushed on the door, being followed by another blonde, this one with green skin and wings...
As soon as the door was closed, William felt something slam into his stomach. "GAH!!!" A hand was slammed over his mouth, muffling any further screams, not that his first one had been ignored. "MMMPHHH!!! HELMPHH!!"
"Hush, you," Liderc purred, now fully materialized, using his free hand to hold a ball of green fire. "It's hard to do this when you're screaming." Oh, and that? Amateur human tactics. Liderc moved his captive, using the blue-eyed blonde as a makeshift shield...
By the nine circles of Dante's inferno, what the hell?!?! What's he doing here?!
Faravahar above, he keeps licking my hand. That's disgusting.

Ryan sighed. "Great. Fantastic." He murmured. "Well. I don't expect they'd keep Lydia there either. But maybe we could find.... I dunno. Some bigwig or something that would know?" He suggested. "Raid an office or something for documents that might have some clue?" He suggested. "It's all I can think of, excluding combing the mountains manually, and that could take weeks." Weeks they didn't have. Ryan couldn't forget that the clock was ticking. "Even something like a delivery report from the main facility might give us a clue, right?" Max had a thought of getting them in with an interview. It was possible. "Could you pull that off?" Ryan asked.
Their discussion interrupted by a disturbance. Ryan turned his head as if to hear better. "Did you hear that?" He asked Max. "Thought I heard Will for a second. Sounded like he shouted or something." Ryan half stood up, turning his body partway toward the source of the sound, so that he could see in that direction better, but seemed noticeably hesitant. Maybe he'd imagined it? Was that possible? Maybe it was just his imagination and he was freaking out over nothing? Ryan stood for a moment, frozen with indecision.

"Well, I know exactly where the research lab up north is located. I've been there once before. It's their main facility that's off the grid," Max offered with a shrug. "If it is at all possible for me to sneak you guys in, I'd say it's worth a shot searching the lab for Lydia. Or at least some clue that could lead us to the bigwigs." She smirked at her notebook with a sort of devilish curiosity. "Even if this turns out to be a dead end, a little dirt on LunArc could be useful in the future..."
She straightened up slightly when Ryan's expression changed and his attention seemed to be redirected. Will? Shouting? She hadn't heard anything, but then again, they were sitting outside and Will had gone inside. For the time being, she didn't question Ryan's suspicions. She just leaned over the table enough to see into the nearest window, squinting to see any kind of disturbances.
At first there was nothing. Then, in the corner of the window, she could just barely make out William shuffling awkwardly towards the door. Something was behind him. Something slightly shorter than him... and green... with wings... and a hand over Will's m- OH GOD.
Max hastily leaned back and reached into her tote. Just as Liderc stepped outside, pushing Will forward with him...
"HOLD IT!"
Max stood up, arms raised as she pointed a taser gun at the green angel. Slowly but cautiously, he stepped closer to the two, arms steady, a sharp scowl directed at Will's captor.
"Sir, if you would prefer not to be rendered unconscious by fifty thousand volts of electricity, I would let that man go."

"Don't really have any means to read your tactile sensations, man," Lydia muttered in response to William's questions about the heat.
The moment William jolted from that punch, Lydia let out a startled curse and leaned closer to her monitor in panic. She couldn't tell what exactly was going on, but William suddenly wasn't moving around much anymore, and his muffled cries were a clear enough indicator that something was restraining him. In his peripheral, she could just barely make out a black gloved hand over his mouth.
"Dammit, dammit, dammit...! This soon?! Really?!!"

"Oh, the human version of a feather downer. How cute."
Liderc gave a sarcastic chuckle, keeping William in front of him, and a taunting grin on his face. "Listen well. I have no quarrel with you, just this blonde buffoon." His grip on his captive tightened. "Now, if you have any functioning thought centre transmitters, I would put that down. After all... It would likely end up zapping him." Will's yelps were silenced further, and the green angel took a few steps back. "Now, I could end you both in a blink, but where would the fun be in that? No... I think you're both not worth killing..."
And then, Liderc made a sound suggesting disgust, turning down to Will, eyes burning with fury. "You! You stop licking my grabby fronds!! Don't make me cauterize your nutrition hole!!"
The air around Liderc's hand muffling Will seemed to distort, causing the latter to make sounds that would have been yelps had he not been muffled. "Yes, maybe that will teach you to keep your disgusting human saliva off me!!"

Oh shit. Ryan hadn't imagined it, which he saw as Max rushed in. She was better with the initiative than he was, that was for sure! Ryan ran with her, catching up to her in an instant. Surprisingly fast in fact. "Will!?" He exclaimed, and glared at Liderc, bracing and trying to look aggressive which essentially worked out to an amateur's idea of a fighting stance. "Let him go!" He snapped, angrily. The man tried to explain he had no issues with them but only with Will. Ryan's glare intensified.
"I happen to like that blonde buffoon and I'm not gonna just let you walk off with him!" He yelled back. It occurred to Ryan that if he was loud enough they might be able to make a scene and attract some attention to what was going on? Sure these things were a dime-a-dozen events on this island, but maybe someone would take notice!? Ryan balled his hand into a fist. "So let him go, before I... Before I..." Ugh... Ryan was really bad at threats and using Will as a shield was infuriating, as it meant Ryan couldn't deploy his own weapons without hurting him.

Max gritted her teeth, her scowl sharpening as she studied Liderc. She questioned who he was and how far he was involved in this. Was he with the people who had Lydia, or was this a personal thing between him and William? Either way, she wasn't about to let Liderc walk off with his captive. Will might've been a spaz, but they needed him for this mission.
A slight distortion around Liderc's hand and a yelp from William made Max's heart skip a beat. Impulsively, her body tensed up, causing her finger to tighten around the taser gun's trigger.
The electrodes launched out of the cartridge and lodged themselves in William's chest...

"GAHH!!!"
"ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OVERLOAD."
White hot electricity very visibly arced throughout Proteus II's cabin. The internal and external lights flickered. The instruments quickly started going haywire.

"GGGGAAAAAaaaauGHHHHGhhhGGGHHH!!!!!"
When the electrodes lodged themselves in William's chest, he felt the fifty thousand volts of electricity run through his body. He felt his muscles go numb, his body not responding to his commands. He felt his eyes shut, his world grow dark. D-Dammit... sorry, Lydia...
When Will's body fell completely numb, Liderc slightly lowered his captive, his grin growing, baring sharp teeth. "Why, thank you. Now, I must be off. Toodle-loo, my featherless monkeys!" Extending his wings, the green angel took to the sky, albeit at a slower rate than he was accustomed to, thanks to the added weight of his captive. "Lose some weight, will you?"

"Ah shit, WILL!" Ryan exclaimed, lifting his arm, as if taking aim at Liderc. Damnit! What kind of robot doesn't have targeting computers, or someshit!? He thought in a blazing fury. No way. There was no way. Ryan wasn't a skilled marksman. Hitting a quickly moving target like Liderc, without hitting Ryan at this distance would take a miracle. And his lightning cannon could cause serious damage to Lydia if it hit as well. An electric blast that could blast a hole through a concrete wall? No way her pod could manage that kind of current. Even Max's taser was making him nervous as to the effect it might have had.
Wait-- what about. Ryan brought his hand to his eye, but even as he did, he realized there was no point. Just as he couldn't hope to hit Liderc with his lightning cannon, throwing his eye at them would be similarly useless. "We have to hurry!" He exclaimed, taking off after Liderc, trying to pursue him on foot.[/i]

"...SH*T!" Yeah, Max was going to be chastising herself for a while for that one. As if it was bad enough Will was being held hostage now, she had to go and leave him completely unable to defend himself.
After messily reeling the electrodes back in, Max hastily stuffed her taser back into her tote, threw it over her shoulder, then nodded to Ryan and shouted, "KEYS!"
With Lydia's keys in hand, Max raced down the sidewalk and over to the car, hurling herself into the driver's seat and starting it up. Her mind was racing with every question she had been asking herself so far and then some, and as her adrenaline kicked in and her foot slammed down on the gas, she couldn't even begin imagine what the answers might be. She knew there was a distinct chance this angel would lead them to the people who had Lydia, but she also knew it could just as likely be a dead end. No matter what, though, she was ready and willing to pursue it. For Will, for Ryan, and for Lydia.
Geez, and she though the Phoenix Project was a giant question mark. Just what had Mexus gotten themselves into?
Whatever it was, one thing was for sure: this was gonna be one hell of a story.
