Jack was having a hard time hiding how uncomfortable Avenger's sadistic enthusiasm was making him, but he at least managed to shrug it off for the sake of getting the job done. "Yeah, okay."
From there on out, Jack cleared his mind of any self-doubts or concerns, be they about his safety or the powers he had yet to fully discover. He saw no reason to worry about himself anymore. All that mattered was getting Lydia back and bringing justice to those who had placed her in peril. And as far as he was concerned, Mexus was just as responsible for her endangerment as the thieves were. The killers, the saboteurs, the egoists, the hypocrites, the double-crossers... in that moment, he wanted nothing more than to give them all their just desserts.
A fire had been sparked. The phoenix had risen.
