Race: Boss Monster

See the pictures. Asgore is a rather large Boss Monster, with white fur, broad shoulders, and a bright blond mane and beard. He has a muscular build, if a little heavy-set, and has a very warm gaze, if somewhat intimidating presence.
Weapons
Asgore has a few means to fight, though when it comes to weaponry, he has his King's Trident and his scythe.
Abilities/Powers
Asgore is quite capable at using fire magic, though he lacks aptitude for any other kind.
Weaknesses
Being a Monster, Asgore's SOUL is heavily intertwined with his body, and feelings of intense hatred can make him very vulnerable.
Skills
Asgore has some baking ability, and he is quite good at gardening.
Personality
Some have nicknamed him 'Goatdad' and it fits. Asgore is very loving, easygoing, and kind. He also is haunted by his past decisions, and feels nothing but regret for his past actions. His warm exterior hides a very broken man, though some of that has begun to mend. He is an incredible warrior, but is very uncomfortable with the act of killing, which was shown during his fight with Frisk. Asgore is also extremely bad at naming things.
History
(Note, as very little is known about Asgore, much of this is headcanon, either my own or that of the blog dreemurr-reborn on Tumblr which you should see; it's a really awesome AU)
For a time, quite a long time, things were peaceful. Asgore was the prince of Monsters, and the monsters and humans coexisted. One day, a long time ago, Asgore was sent on official business to look into the research that a monster scholar was doing, though Asgore himself was in the dark about the whole thing. His ailing father required he go, so he went with the accompaniment of Gerson, who was Guard Captain at the time.
There, he met the scholar, a Boss Monster like himself, named Toriel, who showed the results of her research into magic with some humans from the nearby village who she'd taught. Shortly afterward, Asgore fell in love with Toriel, and within the year, the two were a couple. The two were, in Gerson's words, 'sickeningly sweet' together (and were even Number One Nose Nuzzle Champs in '98), and eventually, they had a child together.
Then the War happened. Humans feared that monsters would absorb their Souls and overtake them, so they fought.
Asgore's father died in the war, and the new King and his forces were unable to stop the humans, as the monsters were just too weak. They surrendered, and seven of the best mages (some of whom had been Toriel's students at one point) sealed the monsters underneath Mt. Ebott.
Asgore and Toriel did their best to salvage the monsters' spirits, however, and things returned to a modicum of peace. For a time. Eventually, a human child fell down underground.
(Spoilers below)
This human, known as Chara, was found by their son, Asriel, and was adopted by the king and queen as their own child. The whole underground was joyful.
Then, tragedy struck. Chara fell ill suddenly and died. Asriel absorbed Chara's soul and crossed the barrier, as Chara's last wish had been to see the golden flowers in their village. Asriel was attacked by the villagers, and eventually died in the royal garden.
Having lost both their children in one day, Asgore and Toriel were heartbroken. Despondent and angered, Asgore declared that any human that fell into the underground would be killed, that they would take seven souls and shatter the barrier, to destroy the humans. Enraged and appalled at his decision, Toriel divorced Asgore and left to the Ruins. Heartbroken and alone, save for his Guard Captain, Undyne (one of his only friends), Asgore waited. Waited, bound by his promise to his subjects.
...Of course, he didn't want to do it. Asgore said that out of his anger and to give the monsters hope. He hoped that no humans would fall down again. But they did. Six humans came, and Asgore killed them, taking their souls and keeping their bodies in coffins in his castle.
Then came a seventh. Asgore felt he had no choice... and he fought Frisk, even destroying the child's ability to show mercy to him, as he did not believe he deserved any; he fully expected to die.
...But he didn't. Many times, Asgore was victorious in their fight. The child's blood on his hands haunted the king... then he was back. Frisk was back. They fought again... and he'd killed the child so many times. Then, one time... he lost. He was defeated. He prepared to die, but...
Frisk spared his life. ...And then he was struck down by Flowey, who had followed Frisk to Asgore's castle. Asgore's Soul was shattered as well.
After Frisk defeated the monster that Flowey became, the child reset things. After some events happened, Asgore was instead stopped before he could even fight Frisk, by Toriel. He was captured by Flowey's vines, but helped protect Frisk, who he had already begun to see like a child of his own. His Soul along with everyone else's was absorbed by Flowey, and after Frisk saved Asgore and the others from Asriel, his power helped destroy the barrier.
Other
After they left the underground to see the sun again, which for Asgore was the first time in many many years, the king asked Frisk if they would be the ambassador for monsters to humans. Asgore himself reconciled somewhat with Toriel, and became a gardener for the school she taught at (fulfilling Papyrus' wish to have a hedge trimmed in the shape of his head). Five months later, when he was to attend a BBQ that the skeleton brothers were having (even though he was still somewhat uncomfortable with being around Toriel, feeling horribly awkward), he too found the note. Asgore had spoken with Sans in the past. Much like the skeleton, he had some awareness of the resets (much though he'd rather he not; he still had a hard time looking at Frisk at times without feeling disgusted with himself), and something felt off to the king. Donning his old robes, armor, and with his weapons, the monster went to the brothers' house... and much like Frisk before him, the king found the odd portal...
