After a prolonged absence, Awesome Reviews returns with a vengeance!
Okay, here's a game that's a must download on Virtual Console, but only if you were too retarded not to buy an N64 and this game too. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is (in my opinion) (one of) the swan song(s) of the N64. I (or, more specifically, my sister bought it with her massive allowance back in '00. Then again she is the oldest and did the most work around the house, so it makes sense. I have such fond memories of her, my dad and my brother playing Mario Kart 64 and SSB back in the day. And if you're wondering why I still haven't finished off this fond memory, it's because the close parenthesis key on my keyboard is stuck and I wish I-) Oh, wait, it's unstuck now! )))))))))) Back to the review!
My older sister bought this game when it was released 2000, and I must say, the game was a blast. It's great having the ability to combine two powers into one badass, or maybe not so badass powers like the Burn/Ice combo. Now if you could combine two new powers like Pearl and Jam you'd get- NO!!! NO MORE PEARL JAM!!! What I meant to say was if you could combine THREE powers and have two new powers called Temple and Pilots you'd get Stone Temple Pilots!
Audience: BOO! HISS! YOU SUCK!
Or maybe you could suck up bird's feathers and get the system of those, then you'd get System of a Down! Get it? Down feathers are popularly used in pillows and most penguins and puffins are covered with it and...
Audience: GET OFF THE STAGE YOU IDIOT!
Anyway, two powers is cool and Kirby is an insanely fun series (disregarding Kirby's Avalanche). This game is bright, colorful and kid-friendly, not very challenging. You can breeze through it in a few hours and the multiplayer isn't that great and... Wow, this game isn't as good as I percieved it to be when I was 9. No, I mean really, I gotta go change my 20 best games list now.
Geez, this game only gets a 5 due to it's obscenely low difficulty curve, the fact it's really short, finding all of the Crystal Shards is incredibly annoying, you can get extra lives super easily, the multiplayer sucks and you can leave a level to go back to a different one and get a seperate power. So only a 5/10. The ONLY swan song of the N64 was Paper Mario, mmkay? Not this low point of Kirby's career.
