Bloody Tears
Pairing: BxGood Sub-Pairing: LxGood Mood: Depressing Romance Point of View: Third Word Count: 2,809 Completion: Completed
There is plenty of truth in the world but lies are the thing that reins. Everyone lies much more then they speak the truth. One big lie in this particular story is the death of Beyond Birthday. Another lie is how L, the Greatest Detective alive, met his fate. So many lies are revealed in this story that one may be surprised by how many there really are. When the words “I love you” were whispered by B everyone thought it was a lie. B himself thought that it was a lie. But no, this was not a lie. It was very much the truth but nobody realized it till it was too late, even B. By the time he realized what he said was true everything was in mass chaos. In this story, the true ends of Beyond Birthday and L Lawliet are realized. In this story, the lies are replaced with truths.
It started with a young 20 year old woman who was not named. She had long, flowing brunette hair that fell half-way down her back. She stood at 5’ 5” and was clothed with Gothic Lolita-styled clothes. Her eyes were a wide, innocent scarlet color while her pupils were painted a dazzling maroon hue. It had been by pure accident that Mr. Birthday had met her. But to him this accident turned out to be a delighting gift. “I-I’m so sorry!” The shy, stuttered voice had exclaimed as she had ran straight into him. Her body was so light that it had barely even moved him. But it had caused his knife to clatter on the cement ground. At first he contemplated growling and muttering something threatening. But it was her next words that stopped in dead in his tracks. “O-oh, Ryuuzaki-san, i-it’s you. W-what’re you d-doing here?” It was now a look of slight interest as his blood-red eyes gazed at this unfamiliar girl. Who was she? When had he met her? He hadn’t met her unless…His eyes grew slightly wider. L was using his alias? That bastard, he had no right to take his false name! A silent growl rattled up his throat as he watched her. How did she know L? “Hmm,” he murmured in slight interest but mostly thought. He saw she was beginning to realize she was wrong and that he was not L. B was a look-alike and that was for sure. He was almost a complete copy that was bent on being the original. Now it seemed that, if he wanted, he could try and be the original yet again. A smirk danced across his lips at the thought. “Y-you’re not Ryuuzaki-san…” She whispered as her eyes slightly widened. But he looked almost exactly like him! “W-who are y-you?” “My name is Rue Ryuuzaki, do I know you?” B lied as he kept a mischievous glimmer from showing in his eyes. This girl was different he realized as he saw no name or lifespan over her head. But he, of course, had to pretend not to know this. “Who are you and who is this ‘Ryuuzaki’ you’re talking about?” Her reaction would tell him things that might be vital. “Rue Ryuuzaki?” The woman murmured softly, that was a lie. But a lot of people lied about their names nowadays with Kira around. “O-oh, I-I don’t have a-a name but y-you may c-all me Good. I-It’s nice t-to meet y-you. Um, Ryuuzaki-san i-is just a-a friend of mine.” His crimson eyes saw a change in her expression then as her shy features seemed sort of guarded. So it was L using his alias! Apparently he was working on a case and she was involved. Delightful. He could use her to his advantage to get L. “Ah, I see,” B’s eyes glittered a bit but he covered it up with a pleasant smile. “I apologize for the scare. Please let me make it up to you?” “E-eh!?” Good stared at him with wide, surprised scarlet eyes. “N-no! That’s…I-I mean i-it was my fault! I-I was the o-one t-hat ran into you!” “It’s quite alright, Good-san,” B kept up his pleasant act though inwardly he plotted. How to use her to get to L? She seemed like the kind to easily be controlled. That was an advantage on his point. “If not right now then later this week? I’d really like that.” “W-wha? Y-you want to s-see me again?” Good was puzzled by this L-esque individual. Did he do this with anyone he got ran into by? “I’d like that,” B almost purred, but he knew he wanted her around for different reasons then what she may be thinking. “So now or later?” He really hoped now. “O-oh I…” Good looked for a clock, “I really s-should go. I’m e-expected somewhere…but l-later…? When?” “Next week at…” He mused on a good time, “noon? Here. We’ll go get lunch, ok?” “O-ok,” Good gave a shy blush. She was going to lunch now as a matter of fact. But why did he want to see her again? There was no time to really think on it. She had to go! With a quick bow she moved past him, saying a farewell as she went and that she’d be here next week. But for some reason as she said them she felt she’d regret those words.
“I-I’m so sorry I’m l-late!” Good gave a small bow of apology. “I-I ran into s-some things,” and someone, “a-and got slowed d-down!” “It’s alright, Good-chan, you were only about 2 minutes and 38 seconds late. It’s better then some people I’ve set up to meet,” L’s dead-looking gaze stared at the young woman as she apologized. Then they shifted and followed her as her skittish figure took a seat across from him. She looked sincerely apologetic and guilty for what she thought was her ‘mistake.’ L wondered if she would ever learn not everything was her fault. But it seemed her past had it pretty beaten into her head. “If it’s alright, I’ve already ordered for us both. We’ll be sharing it.” “S-sharing?” Good blinked, that was unusual of him. Since when did L start sharing his sweets with her? Well, he had offered a few times after she’d told him she’d never tasted anything sweet before. Maybe this had something to do with it? Because she had always refused but now it seemed she had no choice. “Yes,” L merely responded to her which made her think he was answering the question in her head. But she knew better because he couldn’t read minds. Though there were those times he seemed like he could. “T-that’s fine w-with me,” Good gave a small smile, “w-what did y-you get?” “Oh, here it comes now,” L watched as a large sundae was set between them. Two spoons were in it on opposite sides of each other. “I-it’s huge,” Good’s eyes widened as she stared at it. She would never be able to even eat half of it! She figured L would be the one that ate most of it. “Really?” L blinked, “it’s not that big…” “I-it seems like t-the size o-f a c-car tire,” Good replied. “That’s an overexaggeration,” L pointed out, taking his spoon and shoving his mouth full of ice cream. “Yeah…” Good agreed and took her spoon. She put a little ice cream on it and tasted it. Her eyes sparkled almost instantly. It tasted fantastic! She realized L noticed her expression and swore she saw amusement in his dark eyes. But she doubted it because she never knew L to show much emotion if any at all. But despite that a dark blush spread across her face. She felt her shyness suddenly come forward. Was it fun watching her? “Is something wrong?” L blinked, “I looked at you and your face turned red and you stopped eating. Do you feel ok?” She could be such a confusing woman sometimes. Actually, all women were confusing to him. “I-I’m ok,” Good meekly replied, “I-I…this is…v-very good. Thank you.” “You’re welcome, but this was your idea,” L responded, “you invited me.” “Y-yeah,” Good blushed darker, it was another reason why she felt bad for being late. She actually sorta wished he hadn’t reminded her. “I’m s-sorry again…f-for being l-ate.” “It wasn’t your fault, Good-chan. It wasn’t like you intended on being late,” L merely replied. “Besides, you being late worked in my favor.” He gestured toward the sundae. “Yeah, i-it did, d-didn’t it?” Good smiled softly at him. Then her thoughts went back to the man she had met earlier, Ryuuzaki. Should she tell L about him? Why would L care, though? But it was weird to meet someone who was almost an exact copy of him.
If Good had told him right then and there it would’ve been all over. This story would’ve fallen to a quick conclusion and the fates set for B and L would’ve been avoided. L would’ve been aware of B’s presence and it all would’ve been taken care of. But no, Good had not told him about “Rue Ryuuzaki” by the time their lunch had finished. Instead she avoided the topic and conversed with him on other things. That is why what happened in the end was set. Because of one little detail that was avoided in a conversation. When all was said and done both exited the place where they had eaten, together. A thank you had escaped L and before they headed back a kiss was placed upon her cheek. Dazed, Good followed him back to the headquarters. She was completely unaware she’d just made the biggest mistake in her life.
It was not next week Good encountered Beyond Birthday again but a mere two days later. He, being as cunning as he was, talked her into not waiting and eating with him that day. Then again and again he managed to get her to come see him without L’s knowledge. I will not go into detail about any of these meetings because they would probably bore you. But be assured that they did happen and as they did B slowly manipulated Good. He become her ‘friend’ and was ‘someone she could talk to.’ It thrilled B that this woman was so naïve. Yet, though he would deny it, deep down he felt strange. Something about Good made his heart ache, especially when she spoke about her “Ryuuzaki.” It was obvious she cared deeply for L. It made her a forbidden fruit for B, and he wanted a taste. Maybe he wanted a taste because she was something he couldn’t have and L could? Since L had her it made him better! B didn’t like these thoughts as they caused his blood to boil. The only way he could have the fruit were if there were no barriers. That meant he had to get rid of them. So that meant L had to die.
B was meeting Good again tonight and he knew it was possibly the last time. But he was ready to take his chances. On the park bench he sat and waited as nightfall took over. His blood-red eyes were dark and full of bloodlust. It was all over tonight. The end of Good knowing him as the kind, caring “Rue Ryuuzaki.” Tonight was when he yet again became Beyond Birthday. A cold, merciless killer. The one that would kill L. If Good came with him afterwards then that was ok. If she denied him then he would just kill her off so her mouth stayed shut. That was the plan. “Rue.” The soft, melodic voice made the dark thoughts wash away. B turned his head as he let a smile creep along his face. He sure hoped it wasn’t a malicious one. “Good-chan,” B seemed to purr. It was so hard waiting that it was hard to contain himself. But it was soon, very soon. He just had to get through this. “Take a seat.” “W-what do y-you need, Rue-s-san? I-is something w-rong?” Good held a concerned look upon her face. He never asked to meet her at night. Was something bothering him? Or was he finally going to tell her his real name? To apologize for lying for so long? “No, nothing is wrong. There is just a few things I want to talk about,” B responded. Though inwardly he just wanted to shout ‘where is L!?’ “O-oh,” Good was seated beside him, a puzzled look on her face. “W-what is i-it?” “Well…” B stood up and faced her, leaning forward and giving her a chaste kiss. “I care a lot about you, that’s all.” With that he quickly went into the shadows and hid. He watched her stunned expression and smirked. He would win. “Rue…” Good had managed after a few moments of stunned silence. She had searched but had not found him. So Good headed back, confused. She was unaware of the dark figure that followed her all the way home and into the building. Good had taken a shower, thinking on B’s words. Had he been telling the truth? He cared about her? The kiss…Her scarlet eyes closed.
The feeling of being watched was the first thing he felt after the job was done. Beyond Birthday looked up as a small gasp had escaped her lips. Wide, shocked scarlet eyes were staring as his bloody figure stood over a body. The body below him was The Greatest Detective, L. B had done it, he had killed L. Now he suddenly felt regret. The look of pain on Good’s face hurt him and he didn’t know why. Earlier when he had said he had cared for it had been basically telling her ‘I love you.’ But that had been false, right? “Good-chan…” B felt his knife clatter to the floor. He stepped over the body and toward the, still in shock, woman. “Good-chan I…” He saw the growing fear spread across her face as he approached her. He didn’t care, he continued forward. His hand reached out to touch her face but it was slapped away by her. “Y-you killed h-him,” Good whispered, just staring at him with a look of pure shock. “H-how could y-you…?” Tears were welling up in her eyes. “I…I…” B hadn’t expected this. She was denying him so she was to be killed. But he couldn’t…he could just stand there, speechless. “I don’t…I…Good-chan.” He sighed, “I had to.” “W-why…?” Good blinked and tears rolled down her cheeks. “Why, Rue?” “He and I…have been enemies for a long time,” B tried to explain, “and at first I was just using you to get to him…my true name is Beyond Birthday. B from Whammy’s House but Good…” he touched her face, accidently getting blood on her cheek. “That’s not true anymore, about using you.” He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close to him. His lips captured her’s but of course he felt no response from her. Her lips were so sweet tasting and soft. “I love you, Good-chan. I really do.”
B pulled away and gazed deeply into her pained eyes. He felt anger and depressing forming in the pit of his stomach. He knew what was coming and he hated it. “G-get away, B…” Good whispered, pushing away from him. She sobbed, “j-just go a-way! Disappear!” With that the broken-hearted woman stumbled away and ran. She ran as fast as she could to get away as she cried. How could this have happened?
Her words stung, badly. B felt like he had been stabbed by her in his heart. It was hurting pretty bad. He couldn’t have her, it was too late. Good didn’t want him…and now that he had killed L what purpose did he hold? None. He was nothing now. B gave a heavy sigh, reaching into his back pocket. Out came some matches and one ended up being lit. He was unwanted…so why stay? His eyes shifted to L’s dead corpse. A growl escaped his throat. “You lucky son of a bitch. May we burn in Hell for all eternity!” His last thoughts were of Good before he dropped the lit match…
Both bodies of L Lawliet and Beyond Birthday were discovered not long after B had decided to take his life. Good had alerted everyone of what had happened. Both B and L were buried without the public knowing. Good was depressed over the loss of two people she loved. She felt guilty for B’s suicide and had apologized at their secret funeral. She hadn’t cleaned the blood off yet since the burial was the very next morning. When she had cried her tears had mixed with the blood, making them seem red. It made Good seem as if she were crying tears of blood. Bloody tears.
