Dude, no one takes Fred Phelps seriously anymore. He's an old guy, he's gonna die soon anyways, so why worry about that bag of hot air?

And in regards to the 9-year-old getting the abortion story, my parents said the news exaggerated her age for publicity. And it's physically impossible to get pregnant at that age because girls don't HAVE their first period until their preteens. www.snopes.com/pregnant/medina.aspThere's also been other cases of girls getting their period before their preteens. A girl in Peru was also pregnant at 9.

Either way, yeah, there have been records of girls getting pregnant at 9, 10 and 11 years old. Strange things in the world, there are

Emotions are nothing more than electrical impulses in your brain that react to certain stimulants outside the body that tell you how to deal with a scenario, including love. I'll explain. Imagine I punch you in the face (sorry for the violence), your nerves will sense the punch as a stimulant and report to the brain and spinal cord via an electrical signal. Your spinal cord will trigger a reflex (although this can be overwritten if you have the will-power) while your brain decides what to do, this is where the concept of 'fight or flight' come into play. Your adrenal gland is commanded to start secreting the adrenaline hormone which cuts off the blood supply in your abdominal organs (this is what creates that sinking feeling when scared or angry) so more oxygen-rich blood is directed to your muscles to prepare a strong punch to my face or to help you run away as fast as possible. As for the emotions, they are used to motivate the retaliation or escape and to also imprint a negative memory of me so you will be more careful next time. Your emotions are there for you to decide an action and this will be largely down to your personality; are you aggressive, fearful or do you remain calm and take it?. However, if I disconnected some of your nerves or took a part of your brain out so you won't feel the punch or the emotion will you still react in the same way you would? You would probably feel like the dodo explained above, not understanding the situation and unable to react effectively. You might say the electrical signals come from the soul, but if we go back to where I tweaked your nervous system. Did I disconnect you from your soul, or from the stimulant? Onto the subject of love. Love, again, is a reaction to stimulants outside the body. This time it is a way of getting you to mate and spread your genes. The feeling of love only feels rewarding because your body wants you to mate again and again and again so you increase the chance of spreading the genes of you and your partner. Spreading genes is a big thing in the animal kingdom, although humans may have gotten around this with contraception but the very basics is the same and humans aren't the only creatures which indulge in recreational sex. As for fetishes and sexuality, these are more psychological than nervous and are partly down to your personality and how it was shaped. There was a certain video around this forum explaining that. Fetishes and sexuality are perfectly natural, it's just that your instincts will tell you "Spread your genes! Spread your genes!" but, like virtually all instincts, it can be overwritten by your brain. I don't see how people can be effectively individualized by emotion because two healthy, different people can still feel the same emotion. The kind of emotions people feel depends on scenario and personality, but that doesn't mean one person who mostly feels happy cannot feel angry. As for your pets, they probably consider you the 'boss' and try to stay on your good side, but this depends on the animal and I would be able to explain better if I knew what pets they are. And the main reason why any pet loves their owner is usually because of FOOD! It's pretty natural to appreciate or even love the one who provides you with the right resources to live a comfortable life just like it's natural to dislike someone who neglects you. Motives, usually all of them can be filtered down to one instinct: Survival. It's a pretty hard one to overwrite too thanks to our ancestors practicing it for millions of years, but of course the suicidal get around that. Think about it, someone gets further education to get more job oppotunities that can pay for a very fulfilling life and, thus, has a better chance of survival. Survival can be seen as a finacial thing too since money plays a really big part of living in most modern societies, this might explain why a lot of corporations are so greedy 'survival of the fittest'. Emotions and motives are, like personality, affected by the world outside the body and even what your ancestors were like and the complexity of the brain. I would appreciate it if you would answer my question about the robot soul and the evil soul.
Whoa! A lot happened! Stupid time-zones!

...I will admit that those are logical arguments, but... knowing that takes the humanity out of the equation, I think. If we all realized that emotions and love are a cause of physical reactions, it takes the asthectic feel out of it. Emotions become meaningless, and then we become like the society of the film "Equlibrium." Rent it, it's a great movie; lot like the Matrix. I don't know what other arguments to give you. As much as I'd like to deny it, I DO techincially have a religion, and it's called Agnostism. It's a type of faith I have, and faith alone is hard to argue, because it takes no physical form, yet is one of the powerful things we've got.

I knew you'd say something like that. Truth hurts. Just a little note, Agnosticism or Skepticism is the state where one is unsure about the existance of a god; it's just as much as a religion as Atheism. "Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color." -Don Hirschberg Taking the aesthetics out of it? You make it sound like people should be deluded just because it makes them happy. Faith, like drugs, is a crutch for those who can't deal with reality. My motto: "This is reality. Get used to it if you can't change it." This debate probably made me sound like a really cold person. Maybe I am. Maybe I have dedicated myself so much to logic that I forget about other people's feelings, even if they are predictable. Sometimes I can even predict my own feelings. But even though I know where my feelings come from I can still get angry at my little brother, get nervous before an exam, get excited on a trip to Germany and of course have a great time online with you guys! I am human. I'm stuck like this for a while. It's the only body I have. So I got used to it.

Well, then. By the way, I've known about the facts before you presented them to me. And you don't see me changed for it. And I'm still not. I'll keep believing what I believe. It's what keeps me strong. I won't force my belief on others, though. That's definitely not right, and is the mistake many members of religion make.

Well, yeah. It's not like I force agnosticism on anybody. Really, it's not the religions themselves that push it on other people. It's the fundamentalists or the extremists. You know, like the guys who write Christian rock.

I'll be perfectly honest; I can't listen to most of those songs with a straight face. I just can't. XD Although, question: was Creed Christian rock? I was told they are, but I dunno. If so, they're the exception.

I'm not sure if Creed is Christian Rock, though a quick Wikipedia search should solve that question.
Y'know, I found Christian Rap once. It was horrid. D:
