*headdesk* I mean seriously... with more gay pride going on, you'd think everything would start getting better... I doubt it. Gays murdered, the organization of the Westboro Baptist Church... Hell people claim now that bisexuals are just gay and don't want to admit it. So I'm not attracted to women? So I deserve to die? So I deserve to have my funeral picketed by people who want to say "Thank God for the death of this faggot heathen?"
I cast away this religious shit once and for all. From now on, I am a pure Theist. I have no rules, I just believe a deity exists.
And as for my faith in humanity... It's good to not be a human. My faith in humanity has already reached the point where I feel like declaring war on the world.

Honestly, there were times where people with mental conditions were killed because the church thought they were possessed by demons; and don't get me started on the witch trials. Religion is nothing more than glorified intolerance disguised as love, Pat Robertson and the KKK are perfect examples. Be glad you are now free of this dogma, but be prepared. If word gets out there will be people who will try to convert you, demoralise you and resent you. Felix...congratulations.

...Yeah, congrats, Felix.
I gave up on religion a while ago myself, because it just disgusts me. I mean, I personally, I find religion quite facinating, like a train wreck, but I sure as hell don't follow it anymore. Haven't since... well, crap, I can't remember the last time I took going to church seriously. So I became an agnostic theist. But my friends still just lump me in with the atheists.
And my faith in humanity tends to drop a couple points every week. Ever hear about that family who got excommunicated because they got their 9-year old daughter an abortion when she was raped by her stepfather?

Of COURSE it doesn't matter that she's only 9-years-old. "It was God's plan that she get raped to have that child! He wanted her to become a mother and to raise that child as...!" HEY ASSSHOLES, SHE'S FUUCKING NINE-YEARS-OLD YOU TWAT!

It gets worse. She was carrying twins, and couldn't carry them to full term in the first place because she was so small.*RAEG*

"For them it's a game of power and numbers. They amass fortunes and political power. It's about absolute truth and absolute evil. There is no room for middle ground unless they can use it to their gain. It's a world of us against them, where propaganda labels the opposition as evil and immoral. Slander is just, as long as it serves their 'higher' cause. It isn't about playing fair, they must win the hearts and minds of all, by any means necessary. They only fight for freedom as long as it frees them to convert more to their cause." - atheistempire.com/atheism/enemy.php

.....no words.... no words.
Granted, not everyone who's religious is hateful. My boyfriend's a devoted Catholic but knows I've dated a girl. I have more faith in concrete things like science and the trust of those close to you. Even so, there's no explanation as to why we're all so different... why we all have different souls. That's my basis for believing in a higher power. But I DON'T believe I have to worship Him 24-7. He gave me a life so I can go out and LIVE it the way I want.
If you're angry about religion, watch the movie "Dogma." It makes SO much more sense than the real thing, and it's a highly entertaining film.

Yeah, that was a good, funny movie.
Buddy Jesus... Instead of a statue of Jesus on the cross, it's Jesus giving thumbs up and smiling. That was in Dogma. Funny scene that was.
Anyway. Speaking as a not-terribly-religious-person, I believe people just go way too nuts about it. Not only that, quite a few Christians I know are just two faced bastards. Because remember kids, double standards rule!

*sniff sniff* I smell debate!
Firstly, what do you consider a soul? And how does that lead to the existance of a "higher power" instead of something that can be later discovered by science? What you are doing is making up a deity to answer your question since there's no other explanation, this is how a lot of religions were spawned.
I hope you reply, NN1. I love debating!

Really? Sigh, alright, then. Souls are what make us all so very different. We all have the same genetic basis, the same physical building blocks... yet our personalities, our hopes, dreams, motivations, everything varies so widely. And all these strong emotions we feel, whether it be love or hate, have to come from somewhere; hormones can't be the soul explanation for them. Souls contain the power, the energy to keep us going, and the distinction that makes us all so different. So where does that come from? Science has yet to find an answer after all this time. Our physical components are made from the materials of this earth, and yet our souls have no clear birthplace. That's why I believe they were granted to us by a higher power. Don't get me wrong. I believe in the Big Bang and natural selection and evolution and the like. But I also believe in souls and spirits; on occasion, I'll even have random thoughts of passed away relatives, almost feeling them watching over my shoulder. You can call me crazy all you want, but I've had serious discussions about this with friends and family who have the same experiences.

I am not calling you crazy, I think you have expressed a perfectly educated opinion. However, there are theories that suggest that personality, motives, aspirations etc. are shaped by the environment around the person. For example: a child may aspire to be a great athlete because he/she idolizes a famous athlete. This is what I believe. That your emotions and personality are hard-wired into your brain as you experience things and are acted upon. My evidence? A newborn baby can only process very little, it cries when it needs something as that is all it knows. If the child grows up in a rough part of town, he/she may learn to be aggressive or fearful in order to ensure survival. If the child grows up in a cushy lifestyle, he/she will become dependant on others and maybe even snobbish. Another example of this is the dodo, this flightless bird never had to deal with predators so it needn't evolve a way of defending itself, so when humans landed and with them brought animals which preyed on the dodo, thus it became extinct pretty quickly as didn't understand the concept of 'fight or flight'. If personalities were randomly assigned by a deity then not a lot us will survive in some envionments, I can't see the snobbish child living in the rough part of town for very long if he/she doesn't change his/her ways. And a few more things. What about people who suffer mental diseases that affect their personality, does this mean their 'soul' is affected as well? What if a robot is programmed to have its own personality and emotions, does the robot have a soul? You might say it's simply programmed to react the way it does, but is that really any different from a human? What about evil souls? Were they given by a deity? This 'soul' thing seems to be a way of making humans look superior to other life-forms, that humans are blessed and the animals and plants are there for human benefit. I guess you would feel rather special to be given your very own soul by a deity. What do you think? Anyone else want to join in? Do you call me crazy?

...okay, I used the wrong word. Personality I guess isn't what I meant. XD Yes, you're right, personality is definitely shaped by a person's envoirnment, raising, and condition, no doubt. Heck, I remember the story where a man survived having a metal pole pierce his skull through the frontal lobe, and his personality completely changed. So yes, there are mental and physical influences on personality. What the soul provides, however, mostly, is the spiritual energy that fuels our emotions and motivations. We wouldn't develop those personalities if we didn't have the emotional capicity to love, to hate, to want, to need. And I fully believe animals are given them too. There was a story on a family who lost their beloved pet dog and paid money to have it cloned. But though the cloned dog had the exact same genetic makeup, its personality was different from the original dog. It was the same body, same enviornment, but a different dog... a different soul. And you can't tell me my own pets don't have the soul to feel love. Or else they wouldn't be so happy to see me when I get home, or jump on my lap just to be with me.

Great, even more to rant on. >.<
So I heard from a friend who lives in Rhode Island that the WBC is moving to the Holocaust Museum there. Why, you ask? To protest against the mourning of the Holocaust victims and to praise Hitler for killing them.
I think I said this before, but...

Whaaaat? Oh come on. Did you look into it? Did you do research? Because that honestly doesn't sound true. And in regards to the 9-year-old getting the abortion story, my parents said the news exaggerated her age for publicity. And it's physically impossible to get pregnant at that age because girls don't HAVE their first period until their preteens.
