Right. Hiei was, at this point, so dazed that he didn't recognize Botan's weight, the fact that she had skin and cloth, or the fact that, y'know, the wind wasn't blowing downwards. But, imagine having a few bombs blow up next to your ear, or just being a friggin Psyduck. Dear lord that must suck. However, I'm positive Hiei's reaction... makes up for it, a bit. Except for Hiei, of course.
"I'm not going to move. I realize if I move I'll get the blunt of your intoxicating effects. I don't want to go weak to my knees, I want to kill you. Dammit." So yeah. His wording of it was both because he was dizzy, and because the author couldn't make the metaphors more obvious.

This is where the fourth wall is important. You see, the author got the jokes, but Botan being in the situation as she was, took the lines the way they were intended. She was also glad Hiei hadn't whipped out his sword. She had to figure out how to get him out of his daze, and figured the best way to do that would be a shock. And no, the author doesn't mean it like that.
To put it simply, she lifted her arm and elbowed him in the gut, rolling away quickly at the expense of her arm. She twisted it pretty badly but had a feeling that felt a lot better than a sword in her chest would have felt. Which is quite frankly the reaction she expected.

And that was indeed the reaction given. His sword flew upwards, exactly where Botan had been merely moments earlier. And then he quickly brought his sword DOWN, so he wouldn't hit a fuzzy. And then he, y'know, realized he hadn't been covered in fuzzies a minute earlier. He mentally kicked himself, but decided that the situation was too dire to take away the drama.
"Then... how exactly do you suggest I kill these things, if you've figured out their attack methods?" Right. Hiei just asked Botan, BOTAN, for fighting advice.

Botan paled a bit. That had been a little close for comfort. She was holding her sore arm as she spoke again, "They seem to move with the wind. We need to stay upwind. And-" she paused. Hiei wouldn't take this well, "And not attack them. I think they explode upon impact. Isn't there anything like these dandelion puffs in the Makai?"
The last line had been to indicate she was surprised at how poorly the situation was going. Hiei was supposed to be better in a fight like this. Although she supposed he probably didn't handle the "stragetic retreat" type of fight very well. But she had also inadvertently pointed out that they strongly resembled plants. Something one of Hiei's allies might be interested in, actually...

"...I lost my cloak, part of my belt, had to put up with your stupidity, and I don't even get to murder anything? Almost makes me want to just set this entire place on fire..." Hiei noted, sighing.
"Do you at least have something to contain one of these things? They'd be great for terrorizing the Makai, I suppose." Right. He couldn't outright say 'My buddy Kurama could use these, think you could grab one?', because that'd be horridly out of character. No, this sufficed.
"If you don't, however, you'll be finding out pretty soon how this world handles it's dead."

Botan paled. She hadn't thought to pack before coming here. She'd been so up on getting away from the quickly growing mountain of paperwork, she was lucky she'd remembered her human shell. Correction. She would have forgotten it had Koenma not made a point of reminding her to bring it. She glanced around, there had to be something she could hold them in. Some plant maybe?
Some plant. For once her brain seemed to be able to put two thoughts together. Right. Dandelion puffs. Kurama. She looked around, dodging a few puffs when she heard something crackle under her feet. She looked down and saw what looked like white dandelion seeds on the ground. She picked it up and looked closely at it. She glanced around and beamed. Hiei wouldn't have grounds to attack her.
"Uh, how about we just gather these seeds? I think," she paused to side step and duck in an amazingly graceful manner, "I think when they explode the leave seeds on the ground. It would explain why they seem to be multiplying so fast."
She didn't wait for an answer before crouching down and grabbing seeds. She could stick them in her pocket. She actually planned on keeping a few for herself, but chose not to say that out loud. Few people knew it, but she actually very much liked herbs and plants and researching possible uses for them. Even Kurama didn't know about that quirk. She looked up after grabbing a dozen or so.
"You could help, you know."
It was a good thing she was right about why Hiei wanted them. Because if she hadn't been, he'd probably rage at her avoidance of directly answering his question. Heck, he'd been having a bad enough day he might rage anyways. Just for the heck of it.

"...so. You came here to bring Yuusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and I back. Yet you don't seem to actually have anything useful. Why is that?" Hiei questioned, a slight glare at her stating of 'you could help, you know'.
"Tsk. Some 'assistant'." This, however, was the last of his rage-grumbling before actually helping pick up the seeds. He had to dodge a few fuzzies along the way. He did not find the irony humorous. Not at all.

"...I was worried about Yuusuke?"
Yeah, not the most confident of answers, nor the most truthful. She was a little worried that if she answered, "To get away from the paperwork" there would be issues. Not that, you know, lying to a yokai who could turn her into sashimi in under three seconds was smart... but yeah.
It took a few more minutes of dodging, ducking, and practically dancing, but they got about fifty seeds between the two of them, with Botan having the majority thanks to whining less and starting earlier. She pocketed them in the opposite pocket, having saved about ten for herself. Hiei may have noticed that she had put a few in a different pocket than the rest...

"If you were so worried, why is it that you... bah. I feel energy slipping away from me by just talking to you. And a few brain cells." Hiei ranted, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Do you really need two pockets for those things? One should suffice." Hiei inquired, totally noticing that Botan was stuffing the fuzzies' seeds into her pocket like a kleptomaniac stuffs store items.
No offense intended there, the author just ran out of ideas for witty metaphors and decided not to fall on the default fat joke.

Botan looked up, "Um... organization? Right, organization. Hey, we should get out of here."
Probably the thinnest veiled attempt at a topic change the world has ever seen. Well, not quite. But close. She looked around, ducking again. These things were annoying. It was no wonder there didn't seem to be anyone else on this island.

It was arguable that Hiei was getting used to having to ferry Botan everywhere. He'd walked to the edge, of the small island there were on... before noticing that ti was just... floating. Out by itself. He could, in theory, get a good start and leap out as far as he could. However, this would involve ferrying Botan. Again.
He stopped with a sigh, holding what remained of his belt in her direction.
"Well hurry up, I don't intend on staying here until one of the rulers of the Makai dies."

Botan was actually surprised she didn't have to tell him, but nodded quickly and walked over... before pausing and looking over the edge. The swirling maelstrom of darkness was rather intimidating. She'd heard of things like it in some of the afterlifes, but had never seen the... well, the void in person. She gulped and tilted backwards a bit much, knocking her off balance. She had to cartwheel her arms to avoid falling backwards.
She looked sheepish and walked over to Hiei. At least she didn't have to worry about him bouncing off cliff sides. She still had a piece of his belt wrapped around her hand from before, having been unable to get it off before the fuzzie incident. She more softly wrapped the belt around her hand this time, flushing a bit at how close it had to put her due to the current length.
"Uh.. y-you can go," she stammered. Lord this day had been embarassing.
She thought she had it bad? Hell, she hadn't been aware during the most embarassing part. Poor Hiei...

He took a moment to get rather twitchy over their close proximity, before taking a few steps back. He took a deep breath. On the off-chance they didn't make it, he hoped to at least survive long enough to see the spirit guide fall into the dimensional void. That would make the eternal fall all the more bearable.
"When we get out there, hang on tight, and try not to hurt yourself. Basically, don't think." Hiei sneered, dashing forward. He leaped...

...and began falling far too early for comfort. Botan shouted, probably hurting Hiei's ears. The descent was occuring too fast... in a moment of quick thinking she wrapped and tied the belt around her hand more, and much tighter, well aware that it practically put her on top of poor Hiei. Before he had time to twitch or say too much about the matter, she shouted at him. She had to say it quickly, and hope he understood.
"When you get the opportunity, grab it!" and she suddenly left the human shell hanging there, the only thing preventing it from falling into the void below being the quick measure she had taken to tie the form's hand up in Hiei's belt.
By now the fall had put them over ten feet from where Hiei had tried to land, and it was probably clear to Hiei that not only was he going to be falling through the void forever, but Botan had left him to die there. But suddenly Botan's oar appeared in front of his face. She was looking down nervously as she flew. A few seconds... if Hiei didn't grab the oar in a few seconds she wasn't sure if she'd be able to fly out of the pull she felt from the void. It was almost as if it was trying to suck them in...
The opportunity had showed itself, the only question now was if Hiei would "grab it".

Well that was unexpected. The void had suddenly become a ravenous beast of evil, attempting to eat the Yokai. See, I'm going to avoid the obvious here, and say Hiei was scared VOID-less.
You know, instead of breathless... and it's a void, and... MOVING RIGHT ALONG.
Hiei's reaction time was quick enough, grabbing the oar within seconds of it being close to him. Not even an entire second passed. In the end, the murder was not ready to die. His response was basically: "Eff you. I can't die yet, I'm not bored enough."
Basically.
