Atem had been focused with Yuugi, but once they reached the park he saw something above his partner's head that made him almost stumble.
"Partner, hold up!"
Yuugi skidded to a stop and turned to Atem. They had made gotten to the park quickly, it was only 1AM. Yuugi walked under a streetlight at the edge of the park. It was dark out and the floating bits of portal here and there might have been pretty under other circumstances.
"What is it?"
Atem looked around. There was nothing particularly reflective in the area. He pointed to his pocket, "Take out that COMP K1 gave you. I want to make sure you can see it before I worry you."
Yuugi looked puzzled, but nodded and pulled out the comp. Atem remembered the way K1 had stared at his computer, as if he saw something that wasn't there. Yuugi flipped it open and looked at the screen. He almost missed it because it was at the top edge. Probably would have had Atem not made a point of making him open the COMP.
Yuugi looked at Atem, "Uh.. Do you know what that is?"
"I think its whatever was bothering K1. It looks like a timer of sorts... and I don't like what it looks like its set to."
Yuugi lifted the COMP again to get a better look. There was some kind of mark over the 2PM part. Which was the same time the e-mail...
"Do you think...?"
"I can't come up with any other explanation. But I don't think we should take it to heart. The e-mail about K1 said there were too many factors to figure out. Its like a game. Never forfeit."
Yuugi nodded, "You've shown me that many times... So what now? We wait?"
"It's the only option available."
Yuugi closed the COMP and put it into his pocket. No one but he and his other self could see the clock, that was evident by what had happened earlier with K1. The teenager found a park bench and sat down on it. There wasn't much to do now but wait... It was going to drive him nuts.

Several hours later, K1 showed up at Portal Park. Though it was impossible to tell at the moment, he now had several new demons, which he had managed to gain overnight through the demon auction and the demon fusion system. He now had Jack Frost, Pyro Jack, Kikuri-Hime, and Cait Sith. It wasn't much, but at least he had more than just Jack Frost.
The only thing to do now would be to wait for that thunderstorm to come. Only then could he change his fate. Most likely? It wasn't a real thunderstorm, more something caused by a demon. Thor, maybe?
He was so concentrated on the concept of his death and how to survive that he almost walked right past Yuugi. Upon seeing the boy, he stopped.
"I thought I told you not to come," K1 said.

Yuugi stood up and shook his head, "I couldn't just abandon a friend."
His smile was probably warmer than any he had given K1 so far. He didn't mention his clock. If K1 couldn't see it then it wasn't a good idea worry him any more than he already was.
"Besides, I've fought worse than lightning. We'll get through this."
Yuugi wondered if he should reveal his other self. Atem was wavering on the opinion himself. It would be easier to fight if they both knew everything. But he was pleased that Yuugi didn't shift his gaze, even with his distracted mind. Battles always brought out the best in both of them.

K1 sat down on the bench instead. "I wasn't kidding when I said that you'd get killed if you came with me. If I don't change my fate, then you'll..." He didn't finish that statement. A COMP was a powerful thing. It could be used to change one's fate. People who weren't meant to die that day could be killed anyways. People who were supposed to die could escape death.
It was probably enough to make Death tear out his nonexistant hair in frustration.
K1 opened the COMP up and looked at the time. 1:30. There was still some time.

Yuugi walked behind the bench so he could see the clock.
"Not just yours. Ours..." He paused and looked at Atem, who nodded, "All three of us."
(OOC: Sorry its short, but it requires a reaction from K1. XD)

There was a pause before K1 responded. "I didn't think the Death Clock applied to the other you."
If that was the case, then the Other Yuugi would die too if Yuugi died? Then Laplace was wrong: there would be three deaths today if they didn't change their fate. Of course, it often didn't predict all of the deaths in there, and really only ever named major occurances. Apparently Laplace didn't find Yuugi important.

It was Yuugi's turn to pause. He knew about his other self? He blinked a few times and then rotated his hand back and forth.
"It does and it doesn't. It depends on which one of us is on the surface. He can't be killed unless he's on the surface. I had a duel once and my opponent more or less revealed that. But he's the better duelist and he's got some aces up his sleeve that could be really helpful."
Atem kept quiet. He didn't agree with the "better duelist" part. Different, but not better. Yuugi had brought up the the three Phantom Gods, but Atem worried that summoning them might cause more problems than it helped... but he also wouldn't hesitate to summon them if it came down to that.
"By the way, how'd you know? It usually takes longer for people to figure it out."
Five precious minutes had ticked by.
(OOC: The Japanese version apparently calls the God Cards the "Three Phantom Gods".)

K1 looked up at Yuugi. "The way you acted. That was more than a simple esteem boost, and there was no way that you could have simply changed to some alternate personality while you were in danger. No, it had to be some kind of possession."
He shrugged. "I didn't know what to call it, so I just decided to call it the 'other you.' I guess I hit it right on the nail."

"Most people rationalize it away, atually. Oh, and his name's Atem, I just prefer to call him my other self. Its what I'm used to. He was an Ancient Egyptian Pharoah."
Yuugi pulled out a small box from one of his pockets. There were a small number of cards inside. To those with even the minutest amount of spiritual sense, the three cards he pulled out pulsed with power. He pulled out his deck and removed three cards to add the powerful cards.
"He's the only one that can use these. But if the dangers as bad as you say..."
As he put the spare cards into the box and stuck it back into his pocket, his mannerisms changed. Although now that things had been revealed there was no doubt about what had happened. The person that shuffled the deck as he came back around the bench wasn't Yuugi.
"How much do you know about this 'lightning storm'?" asked Atem.

"Not much. It's probably caused by a demon, though, or something like that," K1 said. He checked his COMP again. Fifteen 'til 2:00 now. It wasn't long until that "thunderstorm" got there. "If this had just been the normal death of some kid who hadn't taken cover, the Laplace Mail wouldn't have bothered writing about me. But it did, meaning it's probably something more akin to murder."
The problem was, why would someone want to murder him? Unless that bizarre War of the Bels thing was going on here too, which could cause problems.

"That makes it easier for me. I prefer a real opponent," Atem turned and walked forward a few steps, "Since it seems it'll be targetting us specifically, I suggest we head somewhere with less traffic."
Atem placed the cards in his pouch and turned slightly towards K1 to wait for a response.

K1 nodded and stood up. There was a nearby wooded portion that would probably work. He lead the way into the wooded portion of the park.
The wooded portion itself wasn't rather "wooded"; there were just a few trees around the area, but it was enough to give it some cover from the sun. Not that it mattered anymore, because the clouds had moved over the area, and now it looked like it was going to start raining at any moment.
Sitting next to a tree was a human-sized doll. It wasn't moving at all, and there was a broken appearance about it.

Atem looked up at the sky. He was still curious about this whole Laplace business, but the answer could wait until he and K1 survived the ordeal. He walked over to a tree adjacent to the one with the doll. He didn't want his cards getting any wetter than they had to. He had his hands on the deck. He would draw at the first sign of trouble.
As he leaned against the tree, his eyes flicked to the doll. That was unusual, "K1," he began.
(OOC: Atem's planning on pointing out that it seems really out of place, but if you want it to react to being noticed, have fun. XD)

"What is it?" K1 asked. He was standing next to another tree, browsing through the dBay pages on his COMP. Perhaps there was a strong demon he could buy real quick just in case?
-----------
Somewhere nearby, a similar doll to the one under the tree was walking through Portal Park. "My information isn't wrong, is it? It can't be wrong... ahahaha... but why would he be here?"

Atem indicated the still doll with his thumb, "Is it just me or is that out of place?"
An abanonded doll would have been one thing. But an abandoned life-sized wooden doll with eerily human features... that was something entirely different.
Atem could feel that something was about to happen, he just wasn't sure what. It was more than the "static hair" some people got right before a lightning bolt struck near them.
He had his other hand on his deck. The fight at the hotel had proven that things went a lot quicker than in a normal duel and there wasn't time to carefully think moves over.
(OOC: Oh, that's smart Atem. Know that a sudden lightning storm is gonna hit and stand under a tree. XD)
