Souji turned the same direction Atem had, but he didn't move from where he was currently standing.
Naoto looked to the side. This was going down the depressing road fast. She decided she'd ask one last question before shutting up.
"What do you mean by you've already died before?" Naoto inquired. There was another long pause before Minato answered.
"I had to sacrifice myself to stop Nyx, who was going to bring the end of the world. My soul became a wall to keep humanity's despair from reaching out to her, but without my soul, I didn't live on for much longer. I stayed alive long enough for my friends to remember our time together, and then I finally died." Minato explained. There was a very long silence this time. He looked up, and saw Naoto had turned away. "...Naoto-chan? You're not crying, are you?"
"N-No," Naoto said hastily.

Naoya rolled his eyes, "I'm not going to play a stupid you go first game. You want me to go first, I will," the man stated before heading off towards the main group.
Atem had noticed Naoto's reaction before Minato. She was crying. Not much, but it was only from concentrated effort on her part. It was kind of awkward how much it reminded him of Yuugi, who actually wasn't crying. Yet. He heard Yuugi come up behind him and watched the teen walk over to the group, hesitating a bit before speaking, "Hey, its getting late. Why don't we have a campout?"
The former Pharaoh smiled softly. Yuugi was desperately trying to get the conversation down a different road. Yuugi continued, "We could cook or something...?"
He was actually recalling the earlier conversation. The horror stories Minato and Souji had seemed as good a thing to turn the conversation to as anything else.

Minato looked over at Yuugi, grateful that he was trying to steer the conversation out of such depressing waters. "A campout? I dunno, it's been pretty cold lately."
"If we're camping out, then I'm cooking," Souji said as he walked over as well. "I don't trust any of you around a stove." It looked like he was having bad memories of the girls back in Inaba. "Well, except you Naoto."
"Hey! I can cook!" K1 said.
Minato shrugged. "I'll pass on cooking then."
Looked like Yuugi's attempted topic change was a success.

"I wanna try too! That's part of the fun!" Yuugi said, his newfound energy contributing to the common misconceptions about his age.
Atem smiled, "Hey, he's right. As for the cold, that's what the fire is for, right? Although we should probably change before it gets too much darker."
After all, the only member of the group not still in trunks was Naoto. Naoya gestured, "Keiichi isn't kidding. He's good at that kind of thing."
Which was totally meant as a jab. Not that it couldn't be bounced right back at the man. After all, Naoya's cloak was handmade. He was prepared of the teen tried it though.

Like on cue, a cold breeze blew through the beach. K1 shiverred, which was enough for him to forget Naoya's jab. "...Let's... go change."
---------------------
Later on, the group was gathered around a fire Souji had set up on the beach. At the moment, Souji was cooking what looked like grilled steak (he'd gotten the recipe before leaving Inaba) for everyone to eat.
Minato was in the middle of a ghost story. "...There are many strange things in this world...according to one story...if you get caught at Gekkoukan late at night, you'll be devoured by a maniacal ghost that roams the halls! I remember, this friend of mine -- let's call him Shu...he said to me 'Minato, I saw something strange.' He sounded serious, so I asked him what he'd seen. He said it was about the girl in 2-E...he claims he saw her go into the school on the night of the incident where a girl was found unconcious outside the school. I couldn't believe it. She's not the kind of girl to be out at night...but She was white as a sheet. He insisted it was true...then it hit me... That ghost must have tried to make her its dinner! And that's why they found her lying on the ground by the gate! I felt a chill run down my spine, and I broke into a cold sweat..." He sat up. "Believe it... or don't."

Naoya said nothing, but found it all rather lame. The effect the teen was trying to pull with the flashlight to his chin and the stupid way he was holding certain words was not helping. It was almost painful how lame it was. He glanced over at Keiichi, hoping his cousin found it just as pathetic.
Yuugi seemed rather interested, and Atem tried not to chuckle to avoid insulting Minato. Yuugi wasn't scared in the least. Heck, the shorter teen was trying to figure it out. As far as Atem could tell, Minato had probably gotten it from somewhere. It seemed a bit lame for Minato.
As for the clothes, Naoya was wearing a grey t-shirt and fairly loose black pants and a pair of black tennis shoes. Yuugi had gotten into his school uniform, which still had the poorly stitched sleeve on both the jacket and t-shirt, and his shoes were his usual mostly white tennis shoes. The group didn't seem to care he had packed his uniform for the trip.
Atem was wearing a pair of jeans that seemed to be one size to small despite how comfortable he was in them. He had on a tight sleeveless navy shirt with a tall collar similar to a turtleneck, also fairly tight. The cartouche was hung around the outside of it. A black leather jacket was hooked around his neck, with just the top button clasped to give a cape effect. He had on a pair of black leather boots with a few metal accents here and there, all silver. The tips came to a bit of a point.
He was also wearing two black bracer like bracelets that came about halfway up his lower arm. The edges were silver and four studs were positioned evenly in the middle. Considering it all, Souji was probably more than a little reminded of the style one of his friends was known for sporting...

K1 was facepalming. That had been... just... wow. "Give me that flashlight. I'll show you a real scary story."
Minato handed the flashlight over, and K1 held it up as well.
"There is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea that does not appear on any map. It cannot be seen from any other island, nor can any other land be seen from it. On this island is a lighthouse, rotting from age and sea water, which is never lit. There is nothing inside it, save for a spiraling staircase that leads to the top, and an ancient, dusty bookcase." K1 began. "The case is filled with unmarked books; bound in ancient leather, save for a single space. If you remove a book from the shelf, it will fling itself open in your hands, and the words inscribed in it shall start screaming to the air. You must wrestle the book closed and shove it back on the shelf, or the immortal evil contained within its pages shall break free, and you will be forced to take its place, with pages, ink and binding crafted from your own flesh and blood. However, if you bring the correct book to the island, and place it in the empty space, the lighthouse will light. As long as it is lit, the world shall enjoy an unending paradise, for all the evil in the world will be contained in the lighthouse. And while it is lit, nothing can go in or out. The only problem; you will be trapped for eternity with all the evil ever known or conceived, by man or god. And the only way to escape is to douse the light."
Souji was ignoring them in favor of making some food. He knew that Naoto would love some grilled steak at this point.

At least Keiichi's wasn't lame. However, Naoya was focused on the food. He wasn't sure he could trust the silver haired teen with his portion. He had anger issues, after all, and seemed to be channeling them at him with Adachi no where to be found.
Yuugi was grinning. K1's was way better. Atem wasn't as impressed. All of these stories had been of faraway places. Wasn't the point of a ghost story to be to scare the people you were telling it to? Okay, to be fair Keiichi's story might have set Minato on edge a bit what with the theme of sacrificing yourself for the world, but it wasn't an immediate thing.
"So are we supposed to believe said lighthouse is gonna shoot up out of the ground?" Atem said, obviously joking, "Let me try."

K1 handed the flashlight over to Minato, who passed it to Atem. Minato didn't care much for the content of that last story, but as long as it wasn't him in the story, he didn't mind too much.
Souji had seperated the steak by who was getting what. And he was making sure Naoya's was extra crispy. Most of the steak was actually done now; he just had Naoya's to ruin and his own to cook.
Naoto was ignoring the rest of the group now. She didn't care much for ghost stories.

Naoya was well aware of what Souji was doing. And he wasn't going to cut his nose off to spite his face. He'd fully expected it to turn out this way and had brought his own food. One of which he knew was his cousin's favorite. He smirked at Souji, hoping the teen would know he was on to something, just not what.
The first thing Atem did, or didn't do more specifically, was not hold the flashlight to his face. He kept it at his side, using it more as a symbol of it being his turn to speak than for cheap special effects. Yuugi seemed distracted by the steak, so he went ahead without waiting for any kind of confirmation.
"I'm sure some of you have heard of the story of Osiris and his sister and wife, Isis. Of Osiris' jealous younger brother, Set. In his jealousy, Set chopped up his brother one day and scattered the remains across Egypt, for a body must be altogether to be reborn,"
"Isis scoured the land for her brother's remains, but was only able to find most of them. As such, Osiris died and descended as the God of the Underworld after Isis became pregnant with the man that would become their son, Horus... but the tale does not end there."
"For Osiris can never truly have piece with parts of his body laying around the world. And those parts have had thousands of years to plot their revenge upon Set. It is said if Set is not there, the pieces will take human form and attack anyone they can... especially those stupid enough to be out in the woods at night alone... the only warning would be the sound of scratching..."

And just as if on cue, it sounded like there was some kind of scratching coming from the woods.
"Guys, did you hear that?" K1 asked. Minato raised an eyebrow.
"You're just overreacting," Minato said. "It's probably just an animal." The sound got louder. It seemed to be coming closer.
"Guys..."
"Steak's done," Souji said, and started serving out the steak. As he handed Naoya his horridly burnt steak, he said, "Sorry. It got a little burnt." Compared to the completely pristine and incredible appearance of all of the other steaks, it was very clear that this was on purpose. K1 kept looking back into the woods.
"Okay, seriously. This isn't funny," K1 said. The scratching was getting even louder. Naoto was personally wondering why K1 was freaking out over some animal walking around in the woods. It was probably attracted by the smell of the steak.

Yuugi had gotten extremely pale. Atem had just been making that up, right? He'd never heard that part of the story. Of course... he hadn't lived in Ancient Egypt... Atem seemed a little on edge as well, it was pretty clear he had not planned for the scratching to appear. He stood up and looked around, not realizing that by not saying anything he was not helping the situation in the least. Oh, and his hands hovering over his newly made deck pouch as if he was preparing to fight. Yeah, definently not helping.
Naoya gave a "I knew you were gonna do that" look at Souji, but his more immediate concern was Keiichi. The calmer members of the group were right, it was more than likely an animal. Certainly no psychotic piece of an Egyptian diety.
"Keiichi, do you want one of us to go check it out? Maybe the one that attracted the animal here?" It was a blatent reference to Souji, which he accompanied with a smug look in the silver haired teen's direction.
"A-Atem...?" Yuugi stammered. The story hadn't been that scary, and the the scratching had appeared. And he knew that myths could carry more than a bit of truth. He got to his feet and tried to find the source of the noise, "W-w-we know you're there!" he shouted.
Atem was quickly counting out five cards by feel.

Souji didn't wait for K1 to respond to that, instead standing up and heading into the woods himself. In truth, he was scared out of his wits, but it wasn't like he was going to admit that in front of the other guys (and Naoto). He turned to the other guys.
"Stop staring at the woods and eat your damn steak. It's delicious." Souji said. Minato jumped and looked down at the steak before starting to carve into it with his knife. He took a bite. Okay, so it was more than delicious. It was like an explosion of flavor in his mouth.
Souji, meanwhile, was heading deeper into the woods. "Alright, whoever's in here, show yourself."
"...Senpai?"
Souji recognised that voice. "Kanji-kun?"
A boy with bleached hair walked out from behind a tree. He looked like a delinquent, and how he was dressed resembled how Atem was dressed at the moment, down to the jacket/cape. "It is you, Senpai! Ha, I thought I'd never see anyone from back home!"

Atem heard the voices and felt like facepalming. No need to look like a complete idiot in front of Yuugi, though. And the others. He had totally thought of the others. Right. He decided going to make sure he was right was a good plan and headed towards where Souji had gone. He did, however, let the cards fall back into the pouch and snap it shut. Yuugi relaxed as he saw that.
Naoya reached under his cloak and pulled out some graham crackers. He bit into one as he rudely set his "steak" to the side. He held one out to Keiichi, "Want? I know you like them. If anyone's interested, I brought chocolate and marshmallows too."
"Souji, you find someone you know?" Atem stepped out of the trees and just behind Souji. It was entirely possible Kanji would find the lack of honorific rude. Technically it was, but it was the way Atem spoke. At least he hadn't said anything that would use "ore" yet.

There was a certain sparkle in K1's eyes as he saw the graham crackers. "Yes." He put the steak to the side as he took one from Naoya and started nibbling on it. Minato sweatdropped. K1 looked like a squirrel or something with how he was eating the graham cracker.
Kanji pointed at Atem. "Hey! If you're gonna use his name, then call him Souji-senpai!"
Souji facepalmed. "Kanji, let's not start this now," he said. "Atem-san, this is Kanji Tatsumi. He's another friend of mine from school, just like Naoto-chan."
