Full Name: Kenji Takahashi
Nicknames: n/a
Age: 47
Height: ?
Weight: ?
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Alliance: Neutral Good
Home: Japan originally, now Void City
Franchise: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni OC
Physical Description: Takahashi has been described as looking similar to his mentor, Kuraudo Ooishi, though he’s not a carbon copy of the man. For one, he’s more in shape than Ooishi ever was. This doesn’t stop him from keeping his graying (and only graying because it didn’t really start going gray until after he was about forty or so) hair cut in the same way Ooishi did, and wearing similar clothes to Ooishi.
As far as physical details, Takahashi has brown eyes and graying black hair. He’s fairly imposing, standing just a little taller than most men and with a very stocky frame. He seems to have a permanent five o’clock shadow.
Takahashi wears a grey long-sleeved shirt with a red tie and white pants. Unlike his mentor, he forgoes the red suspenders in favor of a red belt.
Weapons: A standard issue police gun
Abilities/Powers: None.
Skills: Does “making Adachi into his bitch” count as one?
Personality: Takahashi is a bit gruff and rough around the edges, but all in all, he’s a pretty nice guy. He likes to have fun playing with the new recruits, and can be considered slightly sadistic in that regard, but it’s more he likes screwing with their heads for kicks. He does take his job, and the jobs of his officers, very seriously, though.
History: During the June of 1983, Kenji Takahashi was THE rookie cop of the Okinomiya Police Department. Essentially, he was their gofer, their servant, everything. Any small thing that needed to be done, he did so. His mentor at the station was Kuraudo Ooishi, a veteran investigator who was going to retire later that year. Ooishi-san, as Takahashi usually called him, was dedicated to investigating the case of the mysterious murders that occurred every year on the date of the Watanagashi (Cotton Drifting) festival. Every year, a person would die, and another person would disappear around the time of the festival. This would become known as Oyashiro-sama’s Curse among the villagers. Takahashi never got too involved in the investigation itself, if only because he was too busy buying coffee for the other investigators, but he did hear a lot about strange incidents in Hinamizawa.
And then things started getting a little odd. First, Teppei Houjou, a man who had come up often in Ooishi’s notes due to his relation to the Houjous, a family who had supported the dam project that had threatened to sink Hinamizawa and later all except for their daughter died or disappeared thanks to Oyashiro-sama’s Curse, disappeared, and may have possibly been murdered. The same day he supposedly disappeared, Jirou Tomitake was found dead with his throat scratched out, supposedly a suicide. Later, Miyo Takano’s incinerated body was found in a barrel up on a mountain. Ooishi suspected that a teen known as Keiichi Maebara may have been behind Teppei Houjou’s disappearance and possible murder, and had found the boy digging a hole out in the middle of the woods on a rainy night after Watanagashi. Nothing was ultimately found in the hole, but the way the ground had been where the hole was suggested that there had once been something there.
The very next day, Ooishi disappeared, and Kyosuke Irie was found dead at his clinic in Hinamizawa, once again from a supposed suicide, this time by overdosage on sleeping pills. The police force concentrated its efforts on finding Ooishi once it was confirmed that Irie had committed suicide and was not murdered. Takahashi especially was working hard to find Ooishi. He refused to believe that Ooishi could possibly be murdered.
That night, the entire town of Hinamizawa was wiped out by poisonous volcanic gas, save one person, the same Keiichi Maebara Ooishi had been keeping tabs on. Over a thousand people were dead and the death toll was still rising. Rumors began to spread that this too was Oyashiro-sama’s Curse. The strange disappearances of people who had been around Hinamizawa at the time it was wiped out were not helping. And one night, Takahashi disappeared too. Before he knew it, he’d appeared on the Dimensional Island. Back in his home dimension, though, it was believed that he too had been demoned away. He still does not know exactly why he appeared on the Island, but in truth, it was a slight dimensional imbalance caused by a dimensional traveler returning to the June of 1983 of a different dimension that caused his demoning away.
With no way to return back to Okinomiya, Takahashi joined Void City’s police force. Having been on the island for over twenty years now, he is used to all of the strangeness of the island itself and no longer wishes to return to his home dimension, which is somewhat sad, as, thanks to the advent of the ITS, he could actually do now.
Fairly recently, while on patrol in Void City, Takahashi came across a man dressed in prison garb who claimed to be named Tohru Adachi. Adachi inadvertently ended up revealing to Takahashi his ability to summon a Persona and why he was wearing prison garb in the first place (back in his home dimension, Adachi had been arrested for the murder of two women). Somehow or another, Takahashi decided he could trust Adachi, and helped him get a job at the police station, but at the same time, Takahashi realized what wonderful blackmail material this was and used it to screw with Adachi, leading to Adachi, a onetime police officer, becoming the butt monkey of the office.
