Minato and Souji explained glances. Souji sighed. "Minato, it might be best to let you explain."
Minato slowly nodded. He didn't make eye contact with anyone the whole time he spoke.
"...Do you remember when I told you about Nyx, the Arcana Shadows, and Death being sealed inside of me? I left out one part. I never explained Death... some time after me and my friends defeated the last Arcana Shadow, Death disappeared from within me. A week after that, our school got a new transfer student. The transfer student was at our school for a month before he transferred back out... but he didn't really transfer..." Minato leaned up against a tree, his hands in his pockets. "That transfer student had discovered he was really a Shadow, and not only that, but that he was the Appriser of Nyx. His existence meant the Fall was coming, and the world would end."
He looked up at Yuugi and Atem now. "Ryoji's not human. He's Death, the 13th Arcana, the Arcana that had been sealed inside of me for ten years of my life. His existence means that the world's going to end... The only reason he's more or less human now is because he hasn't awakened to his memories of being the Appriser of Nyx yet. But it's not long now... eventually he will, and after that, he'll eventually turn into something that's more Nyx than Ryoji... no matter what, we're going to lose him again."
"...Those headaches he's been getting?" Souji said. "I have a feeling they're triggered by him thinking of things possibly related to him being the avatar of Nyx. He's trying to suppress those memories, but at the same time, they're trying to come out already. As for why he attacked Anpu... That was Death as well. I believe it acted defensively once Ryoji was unconscious. It wanted to take out any threats to Ryoji. And at that time, 'threat' equaled 'Anpu.'"
Minato straightened up. "...Does that explain things?" He looked more than depressed. Saying these things now meant that he was having to accept this was the truth. Because it was.

Atem leaned against a tree. Yuugi turned away from where he had watched Naoto and Ryoji walk off before turning his focus to Minato. Teddie saw the weight bearing down on Souji and looked as sympathetic as he could. Considering it was Teddie, it was very sympathetic. The blue haired teenager began the story.
None of them said anything the whole time. Yuugi had nodded as Minato gave his rhetoric, but Atem just listened. Teddie hadn't known about that part, but he remained quiet as well. Atem and Yuugi suspected where the story was going when Minato mentioned the transfer student. Atem's expression was hard to read, but Yuugi's eyes got wide. It was clear they both knew what he was going to say when he looked up, but the both respected the situation. Teddie's eyes had grown to saucers when Minato mentioned the Shadow part. He would have interuppted then had he been capable of forming words.
Atem looked down as Minato finished up. It had been a lost cause from the beginning. Ryoji had been in the TV World the night Minato had gone to make the Seal. Or the night he tried to, but the result was the same. What annoyed him was the finality of it all. There had to be a way out. He looked up again as Souji spoke, having not expected input. Yuugi looked somewhat shattered. Teddie wasn't looking at the main group. He had realized how lucky he was to be a "mere" shadow. He wasn't anything special, but it allowed him to be here now.
No one spoke for what seemed like hours after Minato asked his question. In truth, it wasn't even a minute. It wasn't just Minato that felt depressed. The emotion hung over the group like a pillow pressed against the face. Finally, the silence broke. Yuugi looked up.
"Didn't... didn't Ryoji hold that aspect of himself back around Anpu? Can't he fight this too?"
----------
"It depends on what you want. I was rather... infamous in Ancient Egypt. It was a bad encounter with a demon that lead to my death, not a failed job. I suspect I'm alive because he broke his end of the contract. My point is, I can deliver Souji to you or take his life. I have a tender thorn in my side just as you do."
"Are you trying to make a deal with me? You forget what you yourself pointed out. Souji Seta is the avatar of a god. What makes you think you can stand up to that?"
"What has you convinced I can't? Izanagi might be a god, but Souji is human. I wouldn't be rushing him head on."
"....what do you want?"
"I want the Pharaoh dead. Not sealed, but dead. I want his soul destroyed, I don't want him to have another chance at life, ever. If you'll tell me of Izanagi, I'll tell you a tale of an Egyptian village known as Kul Elna."
"Pharaoh? You aren't in Ancient Egypt anymore, and a Pharaoh does not fall under my jurisdiction, Anpu. You claim to be from Ancient Egypt, and are requesting I destroy a god for you?"
Anpu snarled, "The Pharaoh is not a god! That is a bunch of political hogwash to con the masses into following him!"
"Then you know that much. It doesn't change that the age of the Pharaohs is long since past."
Anpu reached under his shirt and pulled out the Ring. Izanami's eyes widened as she saw it, "It should be. Perhaps I should still be dead, but I'm not. And that Pharaoh has been reborn not in spirit, but in body. I don't claim to know how. You're aware of the presence in this, right?"
"...bring him out. You are capable, correct?"
Anpu smirked, "What do you take me for? Ryou, someone here to see you."
Bakura jerked as he became aware of more than vague emotions. Izanami looked at the presence that had materialized next to Anpu. The thief king raised an eyebrow as he saw her expression. Well, she was a goddess. If anyone had the spiritual powers to pick up on Ryou, it would be her. Bakura looked towards Izanami and also realized she could see him. He also realized he was alive. Anpu looked at him with a dull expression as he patted the front of his shirt.

Kanji wasn't inputting anything at the moment. He hadn't heard the full details of everything; he and Naoto had just gotten the Cliff's Note's version of things from Souji. He looked over at Minato. He looked like he'd just been told his dog died. And as for that silence that had hung over the group, well... no one liked being told their best friend was eventually going to usher in something that was going to kill them all.
Minato slowly shook his head. "I think... that was because he doesn't remember everything yet. Once he remembers things, I don't think he'll be able to hold it back anymore. He couldn't before, and this time hasn't been any different so far... a month. At most, we have a month until he remembers. After that... I don't know. I can't make the seal on Nyx anymore, either. I lost my ability to ever make the Universe Persona again after that last time I tried to do it. The Persona practically self destructed on itself when I tried sealing the Nyx replica in the TV World's Tartarus before."
Souji wasn't looking at Minato now. He was looking down at the ground. It was hard for Minato to say all of this, Souji knew. But Yuugi, Atem, and Teddie were the only ones that didn't know. Bakura, Anpu, and Ryoji didn't count in that. Souji didn't think Bakura needed to know; he couldn't summon a Persona anyways, he wouldn't be able to fight even if he tried. And Ryoji would remember eventually.

"That's horrible..." Teddie said.
He couldn't find more words. Ryoji was a Shadow like him. He knew now what he'd felt in Minato's World. It had been Ryoji. If his true self reacted as a self-defense mechanism, it meant what he'd felt then was that. But Ryoji had just been knocked in the head here. It meant Minato was right, Ryoji was losing control. Teddie looked like he was about to cry.
"We can't give up," Atem said. He looked at his Partner, "You said things weren't different, right? But they are, Minato-kun. We know before he does, we can't just throw in the towel. I don't believe in Fate, things can be changed.",
"And he's not alone. You're not alone!" Yuugi sounded a bit more upbeat now, "If he doesn't even try to fight it, of course he's won't be able to! Did he try to fight it before, Arisato-kun? The way you're talking makes it sound like its totally hopeless! If we can just get him to see, even a tiny bit, that it isn't, it can be changed!"
Teddie looked up, "Sensei... maybe they're right. I tried to give up too, remember? And you told me not to! If I hadn't realized I could fight, I'd have lost myself! Ryoji-kun is a Shadow too. I don't care if he's a special type, he's a Shadow but he's also Ryoji-kun! Minato-kun, can't we try?"
The whole conversation probably depressed Minato more. It wasn't like SEES hadn't tried. Ryoji wouldn't have anything to do with it. Every angle they tried was always met with the depressive hopelessness. "It's inevitable", "It can't be changed", "Nyx can't be beaten". Then again... the world hadn't ended.
----------
"I though-"
"What is your name?" Izanami cut him off.
Bakura looked up, his hands still passing over his chest. He was there, he was alive. He wasn't in control by right now he didn't care. He was there and alive. He'd been pushed down into mere emotions as Ryoji had passed out. He didn't know what had happened there. He looked over to Anpu, unsure as to why he'd been drawn out.
Anpu sighed, "She's talking to you, Ryou."
"What...? She shouldn't be able too see me!"
"Despite my form, I am a goddess. I can see you for that reason. My name is Izanami, and I have asked you yours."
Bakura looked back towards her. Did she just say goddess!? He looked stressed, if it wasn't one thing it was another. This thing Anpu had called Death and now a shrine maiden claiming to be a goddess. Even if she wasn't, if she was the shrine's maiden she could probably communicate with one. At least they were rumored tobe able to. He realized he was being rude and quickly bowed.
"I-I'm Ryou Bakura....",
"This body is yours, correct?"
He glanced at Anpu, "W-well... technically... I don't really know anymore. I'm sorry for being vague, but this isn't the first person, I mean..."
"Nevermind. Anpu, are you telling me the Pharaoh has defied fate in the manner you have. Alive when he should not be?"
Anpu saw Bakura fidgeting, "I don't know the details. I know that he was the original owner of another items like this Ring. There are seven, they are called the Millenium Items. The Pharaoh's was known as the Millenium Pendant, but the one that wears it is a teenager that resembles him the way my host resembles me. The Pharaoh has a thing for him."
Bakura blinked. Did Anpu just say Atem... liked Yuugi!? He shook his head, his eyes squeezed shut. The direction this conversation was going worried him. Izanami nodded.
"I can do something about it if that is the case. He has stepped out of the jurisdiction of those that should judge him. But remember I'm the one in control of this deal. If I chose, I could kill you. My terms are this. You will bring Seta to me alive and unharmed. I don't care how you do it nor would I think of giving you advice. I will carry out my end of the bargain only once Seta is secured."
Anpu glared at Bakura and he vanished. He didn't need him observing, or worse, freaking. He'd begun the latter as he was realizing what was going on.
"Clarify what you will do to the Pharaoh," Anpu stated.
Izanami nodded, "His soul will be trapped in Yomi. He will not reincarnate, think of it as a stasis. I can not promise eternity, even as a goddess I do not have that power. However, you will have my word that as long as I reside on the throne of Yomi he will remain there. Be aware of this, the deal you are making is tied to your soul, not to your life. For as long as the Pharaoh is sealed, your soul will be tainted by this deal. You understand, correct?"
Anpu smirked, "I am not an idiot. I've bartered my soul before, I believe I mentioned that demon? This is a single brick compared to a kingdom in comparison. Anything special you need?"
"It is simple. You simply have to give your word," she narrowed her eyes, "I do not react well to words being broken, either. And it will bind you in a way I will know if you break it. If you do break it, expect it to be someone other that Seta that gets into my grasp. Understood?"
Anpu hesitated. For a moment there she seemed far more goddess than human. But he stepped back forward and nodded, "You have my word."
"And you, mine."

Minato had looked up as Yuugi and Atem started insisting that something had to have been able to be done. But that hadn't worked before... the moment Ryoji had remembered everything, he had gone into a depression he hadn't escaped from until the Dark Hour hit that December 31st. The other members of SEES had tried to convince him that there was something they could possibly do, but nothing had worked. They had ended up fighting Ryoji after all.
He looked over at Teddie as Teddie insisted to Souji that there had to be something they could do. And then at Souji, who had straightened up a bit.
"You're right, Teddie... how could I have forgotten that?" Souji said. "Minato, you can't give up on Ryoji now. You said the Fall meant a world was meant to come to an end, right? But our world's still there. Fate can be changed... and I think you're the only one who can make him realize that."
"We tried before, but--" Minato started, but Kanji stepped forward.
"So what? Try again! You're his only friend here; he's gonna listen to you!" Kanji spoke up.
Minato looked down at his feet again, and gave a nervous laugh. "What is this, the Arisato Minato Therapy Session of the Week? I dunno, I just..."
"Things are different now. The fact that you're alive at all means you defied fate," Souji said. "And if you can't do it... then I'll become the Seal in your place."
Minato looked up at Souji with wide, afraid eyes. "You'll what?!"

Everyone's eyes got wide. Teddie let out a hushed and shocked "sensei..." while Atem and Yuugi looked floored. Yuugi looked almost as afraid as Minato. Atem was impressed, but a bit of defiance flicked across his eyes. Souji meant he alone would die if Ryoji couldn't be convinced.
Yuugi was more terrified than he looked. He'd almost had to say goodbye to one friend. Now the stakes had been raised and shifted, he'd have to say goodbye to a different one if they failed. And then he remembered a wish he'd had abandoned then. It wouldn't be complete, but he couldn't bear it to be incomplete by three. He spoke with a fair amount of force.
"When Ryoji-kun and Shirogane-chan get back we have to get a picture taken!"
----------
Anpu felt the weight move around himself and Izanami. What he didn't expect was the weight to move around the Ring as well. Izanami raised an eyebrow, but gave no reaction. She hadn't realized that. However, Anpu had come first and he had tied his soul into the deal. That meant all aspects of it. Anpu lifted the Ring and looked at it oddly. Izanami turned around.
"It is made," she turned towards the honden, "Unless you intend to help me with this door, I ask that you leave. I assume you are done with what you came here to do?"
Anpu nodded. She knew why the Ring had reacted to that promise. Damn if he did. He turned and headed back towards the main area of the festival.
----------
"I'm really sorry this is all we can do, Mochizuki-san, Shirogane-san."
Ryoji looked down at the hand mirror they had handed him. By the time they had reached the makeshift hospital, Ryoji had no longer been dizzy. They'd tried to give him a standard checkup, but their instruments weren't cooperating. The best they'd been able to do was confirm his pulse was normal and make sure his vision was fine. They'd wrapped a bandage around his head for the bump and told him to take over the counter medication.
"You can't be blamed for equipment error, you know. It's fine," Ryoji said.
"Thank you for those words. Still, its odd that everything is on the fritz like this... I wish they'd hurry up and repair that hospital in Void City... Oh, nevermind. You try not to hit yourself in the head again, alright?"
Ryoji nodded and watched the doctor walk off. He stood up and put the mirror down before turning to Naoto, "Should we head back?"

Minato had been about to object to Souji's suggestion again when Yuugi had cut in with the photo thing. He gave a confused look to Yuugi.
"A photo? Why?" Minato asked. Souji got the reason behind it, though, and smiled.
"That's a good idea Yuugi," Souji said. He looked around at their current group. "Did anyone bring a camera?"
Kanji shook his head. Minato hadn't brought one with him either.
--------------
Naoto had silently stood by while Ryoji had gotten his examination. It was just as she had expected; he was just like Teddie in that hardly anything would come up when Ryoji was examined. Ryoji appeared human, but he was very much a Shadow.
Once Ryoji was done being examined, she nodded at his question. "We should hurry back."

Yuugi had looked away when Minato has asked his question. It felt embarassing to try and explain. Also, he worried he'd start crying. However, Souji seemed to get the meaning and he looked up with a smile. Everyone mentioned they didn't have a camera and he shook his head.
"I saw a stand doing photos!" he piped in.
Atem looked to the side. Naoto had said that the hospital was nearby. He found himself hoping nothing had happened.
----------
Anpu weaved through the crowds. He was going to have trouble with Bakura now. He scowled to himself. He should have suppressed the teenager earlier. Now Bakura knew he was after Souji. And Adachi was a problem. He'd claimed to understand needing to reign Bakura in, but he had the feeling that if he showed up in front of the officer with a severe wound, the man would flip. He paused. There was a crowd here...
The thief king slipped to the side. He'd get Bakura to understand things first, find Adachi second. There was some information he needed that would be easiest to obtain from someone in the police force...
----------
Naoto and Ryoji had made it back to the festival. Ryoji stopped and looked towards Naoto.
"Naoto-chan, should I keep my distance from Minato-kun? I'm not asking for information, I just want to know if it would be easier."
(OOC: Feel free to have any member of the group see any other. This included Takahashi and Adachi, naturally. So if you want to butt into one of the developments going on, have fun. XD)

Naoto stopped when Ryoji did, and turned to look at him as well. To be honest, that was a difficult question, even for her. In this case, though, it wasn't for Ryoji's safety for Ryoji to stay away, it was Minato's. Even with how Minato had been able to open up somewhat to Ryoji, he was still more than a bit apprehensive of him. Today had not helped matters at all.
Finally, Naoto was able to come up with an answer. "I think you should try talking to him some more. You have to understand, he hasn't seen anyone from his time in months. Souji-sempai, Kanji-kun, Teddie, and I are all from your world as well, but we're apparently from a couple years in the future. Minato's been all by himself for a while now... it doesn't surprise me that he's reacted like this. And if you're worried about that, I can promise you that Minato has nothing to do with it."
Naoto felt a little sick with herself. She had tried so hard to find the truth, and here she was lying to Ryoji again. But anything was better than seeing Minato wallow in his self-loathing and fear like he had been.
----------------
Souji smiled. "Why don't you guys go ahead and see if you can find Naoto and Ryoji? I've got to go to the bathroom..."
Minato looked over at Souji. He narrowed his eyes. "You're not just saying that so you can slip away and go do something dangerous, are you?"
"No, that's you," Souji stated. "Anyways, how about we meet in front of the Takoyaki stand near the entrance in fifteen minutes?"

"....If you say so. I'm just worried I'm going to end up hurting him. Something has been nagging at me and I'm afraid it'll end up hurting... well, all of you," Ryoji shook his head, "Sorry, that sounds stupid. Forget I said anything."
----------
Anpu sat down to the side of the festival. He forced Bakura out of stasis. Bakura was avoiding looking at him, but the connection the Ring granted meant Anpu could sense the dominant emotions. Fear and anger. Anpu had to smirk at the anger. It reminded him of himself at times.
"Be that way, you don't have to look at me to listen. You're not going to bring up the conversation with Izanami to anyone without my permission."
"Don't tell me what to do..." Bakura muttered.
He paused when he felt pressure against his upper arm. He turned and saw Anpu had the flat of a dagger against his own. His eyes widened. When had he gotten that!? Anpu smirked darkly as he lifted the dagger and moved it to allow the sun to reflect off it, turning it so the blade was now pointed at his... their arm.
"I believe I warned you about knowing your place?"
"I can't... you're trying to kill Atem-kun! And I don't know what Izanami-san wants to do Seta-kun, but it can't be good!"
Anpu placed the blade against his arm, "You've known that from the start. I'm in control. I make the decisions. At this point you're merely allowed to surface at all because I allow it."
Bakura winced and took a step back, "A-Adachi-san... even if my death won't kill you, how long do you think it will take to find another host?"
"Oh, the teenager wants to negotiate? Then think about this. Why do you think I'm doing this in a crowded area? Before I speak to Adachi?"
Bakura paled. Anpu nodded, "Exactly. I don't think you get my point, though... you know, I've been called a masochist before..."
The sixteen year old who owned the body felt his knees get weak at that statement. Some part of his mind reminded him it was a psychological effect. He didn't have a body right now. It wasn't he was able to dwell on that very long. He screamed as Anpu sliced into his upper right arm. Anpu hissed, but his words were proved because even with the hiss, he was smiling.
----------
Yuugi nodded. Atem stood up from the tree he was leaning against. Teddie glanced towards them. Atem turned to leave but stopped and made sure the others were with him. Yuugi had joined him almost immediately.

Souji had left the group first to head off to find the bathroom. He actually did have to go, but that didn't mean he wouldn't take the odd detour. Plus, he didn't actually know where the bathroom was. Couldn't be too hard to find. It was probably on the edge of the festival itself somewhere.
It just ended up that the path Souji had taken would lead him past what was probably the last person he needed to see right now. And it wasn't Adachi, for once.
The path that Souji was taking was taking him right toward where Anpu was teaching Bakura his place. At some point, Souji caught eye of "Bakura", and stayed back. There was a glint of steel... he had a knife?! Where the hell had that come from?! And then Anpu sliced into Bakura's upper right arm. Souji had felt a little sick at that. Why the hell would he...?
And then it occurred to Souji that Anpu could probably see him. Instead of running, Souji put one hand in his pocket, and walked closer to Anpu.
"Injuring your host for fun and profit, I suppose?" Souji asked. For some reason, some voice in the back of Souji's head kept telling him to get the hell away from Anpu.
---------------
Adachi was lingering nearby a stand near the entrance to the shrine. He looked up as he saw what looked like that Shirogane kid and some kid Adachi thought he had seen hanging around the Seta kid.
Naoto hadn't answered Ryoji after Ryoji had said he felt like he might hurt them. There wasn't a need for her to answer. That's what she'd have to keep thinking with this one.

Anpu had seen him. And ignored him. Izanami had instructed him to deliver Souji unharmed. The way she had stressed it had indicated she wouldn't take kindly to even a bump on the head. However, when Souji decided to close the distance Anpu was on his feet in a flash. The speed was eerie. The cut on his arm wasn't deep, but it wasn't shallow either. He'd taken off the trenchcoat before "summoning" Bakura, so it lay in a pile on the ground as the blood ran down his arm.
Souji didn't seem to be ready to fight. Instead, it seemed he was more interested in some not-so-civil conversation. Anpu shrugged, wiping a bit of the excepss blood off the arm and transferring it to his black pants. The dagger remained on the ground.
"He doesn't know his place," Anpu stated. He wasn't looking Souji in the eye, but instead his muscles. He'd be able to read if Souji was about to move and he'd honed the skill well enough he'd know how he was going to move, "Is there a point to this chat?"
Souji wouldn't sense it, but Bakura's presence was still active. He was a bit to the back of Anpu, leaning against a tree and clutching his arm. His eyes were squeezed shut and quite a few tears were streaming down his face. And even though Souji couldn't sense it, a deity would be more than aware of Bakura's presence. Souji might, however, find it odd the lack of confrontation Anpu was putting forth compared to usual.
----------
The crowds were a bit thick, so it would take a bit more for Yuugi's group to get to the stands. Ryoji had resumed walking forward. Actually, he wasn't sure where to look for the group. He doubted they would have stayed among the trees. It had taken them a while.

Souji stayed where he was standing. Even with the dagger on the ground, he didn't take this to mean it was safe for him to get anywhere closer to Anpu.
"So you're teaching him his place? Don't let Adachi hear you saying that. And no, not really," Souji said. "I only came across you on my way to the bathroom, that's all." After a keeping his eyes on Anpu for about another minute, Souji walked past Anpu. He'd have to remember what Anpu had done to Bakura and tell Yuugi and Atem later.
He was still feeling somewhat apprehensive about something...
-------------
Naoto looked around at the stands, and then turned to Ryoji.
"Do you see the others anywhere?" Naoto asked.

Anpu watched Souji as he walked off. He didn't move until after a few minutes past when he lost him in the crowd. He turned to Bakura's presence. The teenager had slid into a sitting position. He had stopped crying, but his face was still a clear indication of pain. He was unaware of it, but he was also whimpering a bit.
"I trust you get my point?" Anpu stated.
Bakura nodded. He'd forgotten what he had told himself earlier. He had to pick his fights. He looked at his arm. The problem was he also knew what would happen after he picked his fights. Anpu was both masochistic and sadistic.
"Just let me stay in the Ring..." he said. He'd still feel the pain there, but at least he wouldn't have to look at Anpu. This was worse than the spirit from before had been. He found himself wishing for the long blackouts. Anything but the psychological and physical torture he had to deal with now.
Anpu made no barrier to Bakura suppressing himself. He stuck the edge of his fingernail in the wound and hissed a bit. He'd gotten it as deep as he wanted. He pulled the trenchcoat and pulled out the deck of cards, transferring them to his pants pocket before putting the dagger in the trenchcoat's pocket. Now he had to find Adachi. Souji had warned him not to let Adachi here him say that, but that was part of the point. If things got to heated, he'd leave the apartments. He was no stranger to making a living on the streets, after all.
He slipped in among the crowd. It wouldn't be hard to get people to guide him to the police on patrol.
----------
"Ryoji-kun, Shirogane-chan!"
Ryoji had been about to turn to tell Naoto no when he heard Yuugi's voice. He turned. The height of both Yuugi and Atem made it impossible to see them, but the height of Kanji more than made up for it.
"Over here, everyone!" Ryoji said. Yuugi had sounded in a far better mood.

Finally, Souji resorted to having someone give him directions to get there. It was actually kind of sad, having to ask directions on how to get to the bathrooms at a festival. He decided not to mention this to the other guys.
He was worried about Anpu and Bakura, but for the moment, hygiene came first. As such, Souji headed on into the men's room.
---------------------
Minato looked up as he heard Ryoji's voice. "There they are!" He started working his way through the crowd toward Ryoji and Naoto.
Kanji looked toward one of the booths. Adachi was officially slacking off again, and playing some game at one of the booths. "...Adachi's hangin' around," Kanji told Yuugi and Atem.
