Souji sighed. He wasn't very happy with this situation, and he could tell he was being intentionally separated from Adachi. Well, that was to be expected. He hadn't exactly reacted well to Adachi's arrival on the island. There was a good reason Adachi had five locks on his door. Though with this group's track record with doors...
"Alright. Let's meet back at this place later, then. If we find Bakura, I'll text you," Souji said.
Souji and Minato walked off together, heading down the street in the direction Anpu had run off in earlier.
Adachi waited for Atem to start walking. Best let those two take the lead...

Yuugi looked a bit disappointed as Atem cut him off. He shook his head without realizing it and looked towards Adachi after watching Souji and Minato walk off. Atem gestured to Adachi, and when it didn't seem like the man was going to move he spoke.
"You have a gun," Atem stated. He doubted Adachi would miss his point. No one wanted to walk in front of a person they didn't trust when they were armed.

Adachi flinched. Oh yeaah... he'd forgotten about that. And again, not on the best terms with these people... he supposed dropping the Egyptian kid into the TV World had a lot to do with it. Especially since it turned out that Atem and Yuugi were in love with each other.
He really had to wonder if Bakura knew about that.
"Er... well, I kinda have to carry it... I'm still on duty, technically..." Adachi said. Oh, he was going to get in so much trouble for this...

"Adachi-san, I think he just meant you should take the lead," said Yuugi.
Atem had been about to give an annoyed response to Adachi's stutter, but nodded. Minato and Souji couldn't even be seen anymore. Yuugi looked impatient, but not in a rude way. He was just tired of standing here. Actually, he was worried about Bakura. They couldn't do much with the Ring on him... Atem, on the other hand, was annoyed.

"Oh, right, I knew that," Adachi said. He walked forward to take the lead and cleared his throat. "Right then! Let's go find Ryou-kun!"
He honestly had to ask himself why he kept calling Bakura "Ryou-kun." He had started saying it because he thought it would make Anpu less likely to attack him for some unknown reason, and he'd just met this kid; it would make more sense for him to call him Bakura-kun. It looked like everyone called him Bakura, too. Even Yuugi, who was supposedly his friend, called him by his family name.

Atem glanced towards Yuugi before heading after Adachi. There were other reasons for him taking the lead, although even Atem realized one of them was cold. If Anpu jumped them, there was a chance Adachi would be run unwilling interference. Besides that, Bakura was obviously hesitant about him. He frowned. He'd thought he'd seperated from Yuugi enough, but Bakura's mind was still tripping. Well, he hadn't been involved in his Memory World at all.
Yuugi looked towards Atem, his mind running along the same tracks. However, he also thought of his friends. Kaiba, who he considered a friend, had accepted the "paranormal" situation, but how would he accept the split? It was one of those cases where Kaiba could deal with it, but would he accept the full brunt of it, or pass it off somehow? He'd only accepted the presence of "the other Yuugi" after being forced to participate in the events of the Memory World. Kaiba admitted to nothing paranormal unless he was forced to... and he was good about not being forced to.
----------
Anpu leaned against the side of the alley. His host knew about the Ring now, but Anpu didn't think he knew about the not being Zorc thing. That had been an insult. Zorc had absorbed him and his life force, he'd lost himself at that point. And then, even with his power, the demon had obviously failed to handle the Pharaoh. Breach of contract if there ever was one. He wasn't even sure why he was alive. Why the Pharaoh was alive. The powers of the Items were still a bit beyond him.
And he was weak. If what the Pharaoh said was any indication, Zorc hadn't bothered feeding the boy named Bakura. That explained why he was half starved to death. Anpu had suffered worse hunger pains in his memory, but once he had established himself as a famous thief it hadn't been an issue any more. He was not staying with that Pharaoh and his boyfriend. Even if his host wanted that it was not happening.
He pushed himself up. He'd need to find Adachi. His host liked Adachi. The teen was obviously unaware of what Adachi was capable of. That little fight in the alley had been indication enough. Adachi, however, was a coward. He could be manipulated. He turned as he heard footsteps and seemed to blend into the shadows as he stepped back. Even his breathing was regulated to blend with the sounds of the city around him and to prevent his chest from rising more than it needed to.

Adachi had been leading the way. He looked around, occasionally looking into alleys and other places Bakura could be. They needed to find him soon.
"Ryou-kun! Bakura! Hey, if you're here, please answer!" Adachi called. There was more than one reason he had to find Bakura, but most important was the kid was starving. According to Atem, the evil spirit in the ring before, Zorc or something like that, had never fed Bakura. And with how often Bakura kept getting taken over by Anpu, Adachi had the feeling that the kid spent more time possessed than he did being himself.

"Bakura-kun!" Yuugi joined in. Atem shook his head to himself. If Bakura was around here, Anpu was active and avoiding them. Or worse...
----------
Anpu saw that the people who owned the footsteps he had heard were the teens called Minato and Souji. The only concern at the moment was the sword. It looked to weigh quite a bit. Even though the silver haired teenager was obviously used to the weight, he wasn't blind to it.They were walking side by side, so...
Anpu waited for them to go a bit further past and made a quick move out of the shadows. If it worked as he wanted, he'd hook his hand around Souji's throat. Even from that angle he'd be able to detach the sword from his back and make the playing field a little more equal. At least in terms of who was armed. If it didn't work, he'd have to use his dexterity to jump back.

Minato and Souji had been walking together for some time, asking if anyone had seen Bakura. A few people had seen someone fitting his description, but no one could say where he'd gone.
"It looks like Anpu doesn't want to be found," Souji said.
"Not by us, anyway," Minato sighed.
"Doesn't surprise me. He despises Atem, who Yuugi is practically attached to, and-- Hrk!"
Someone had reached around Souji's throat, causing him to step back. Minato moved forward a few steps before he realized Souji wasn't following him anymore, and turned around.
"Hey!" Minato said. Someone had grabbed Souji by the throat. Someone who looked like... "Bakura!" He pulled out his Persona card. "Hey, let go of him!"

Minato hadn't even finished pulling out his card as Anpu was tossing the sword, sheath and all, behind him. He glared at Minato as he drew out the card. It wasn't what his host knew as a Duel Monsters card, but with everything that had happened he had no doubt it was connected to Ka. How many different ways were there to summon them in this era? He tightened his grip around Souji's neck, cutting off airflow.
"My name is Anpu. You continue to threaten me and I won't hesitate to kill him. The human throat is surpisingly fragile. If you try to attack me you'll hit him. I'm willing to talk but know that his life is in my hands," Anpu stated. It was eerily matter of fact.

Minato glared at Anpu. Souji was staying completely still, but he was gasping for air. Anpu had almost completely cut off his airflow.
Minato lowered the tarot card, and it disappeared from his hand. "Fine. Talk. Just don't kill Souji."
-------------
After a few more minutes, Adachi had to give up. "I don't think he's around here..."

Anpu grinned. Smirked, more like, made it clear he knew he had the upper hand. He loosed his grip a bit. It was still firm, and the front of his right arm was still touching Souji's neck. But Souji's breathing was mostly unobstructed.
"Why did you follow me? My host, the boy called Bakura, doesn't know you, so why?"
Anpu was confident they hadn't followed him to attack him. If that had been the case they would have been more on guard. And Minato wouldn't have backed down so easily. Anpu was staring at Minato as he awaited a response, but it was clear he still had most of his focus on Souji.
-----------
"Bakura-kun!"
Atem looked pained, "He's right, partner... I don't think he'll harm Bakura," he scowled, "He values his 'host' as much as Zorc did."
"Yeah..." Yuugi didn't seem convinced, "We should head back. Maybe Seta-kun and Arisato-kun found him already?"
(OOC: I'm making a slight shift here. Yuugi calls almost everyone by their surname in regards to his Japanese friends. This is the way it would be in the fic, and I want to change it now so maybe Adachi can think of it. It'll be this way from now on.)

Souji narrowed his eyes. What kind of question was that? Certainly not one worth almost killing him over.
"We came because we're Yuugi's friends," Minato said. "We wanted to help him."
"We certainly didn't come because we wanted to help you," Souji growled.
-------------------
Adachi sighed. "Yeah, let's go..." Maybe if they were lucky, Bakura would have come back on his own, and was sitting disoriented outside the apartment complex, wondering why he'd blacked out again...
But Adachi knew his luck wasn't that good.

"I had no illusions of that. And I am more than capable of taking care of myself. However, it seems my host has taken a bit of a shine to that officer called Adachi, the gods know why. You two seem to understand what he's capable of," Anpu frowned, "The less attention I call to myeself at this point, the better."
Anput forcefulliy shoved Souji towards Minato. His hopes, probably just because he could, were that it would surprise them and Souji would get knocked into Minato. Even if he wasn't, by the time the recovered from the shift in tactics, it wouldn't be Anpu there anymore.
Bakura's knees hit the packed dirt of the alley. The loose gravel meant it was a good thing he was wearing pants. The Ring remained around his neck this time, and on the outside of his shirt. He fell forward without trying to catch himself, but seemed to wake up from the impact. The prongs of the Ring sounded vaguely like wind chimes as they tinked together. They were cut off as Bakura impacted.
"Nnnnrgh..." he said. While he was awake, he didn't seem coherent....
----------
Yuugi nodded, as unconvinced about things as Adachi's thoughts were. Atem let Adachi past to go out in front first before he and Yuugi followed. Him and his partner probably needed to talk at this point, and it felt cheap and selfish that he was hoping Bakura was back more for that than for Bakura himself.

Minato was caught off guard by Souji suddenly getting shoved into him, but Souji managed to catch himself after stumbling for a bit. Souji turned around to glare at Anpu, and only saw Bakura falling to his knees. The two of them ran over to Bakura and crouched by him.
"Hey! Are you okay?" Souji asked.
"Careful, Souji..." Minato warned. Bakura was still dangerous... Anpu had proved that fact.
