Full Name: King of Bel, “Abel”
Nicknames: Keiichi Kimura, K1
Age: 17
Height: ?
Weight: ?
Gender: Male
Race: “Human”
Alliance: Neutral Evil (There is no Good or Evil in SMT games. Only D&D alignments.)
Home: Demon Realm (original home is right outside the Yamanote Circle in Tokyo, Japan)
Franchise: Devil Survivor
Physical Description: Overall, Keiichi Kimura is a fairly unremarkable looking human. He’s average height, average weight, and has short blue hair, which is so common among anime protagonists that no one cares anyways. In a case of the Curtains Matching the Window, his eyes are the same color and almost the same shade as his hair.
It’s also been said before that K1 has no fashion sense whatsoever. Considering all of his clothes look almost completely identical, just with small differences in color or design occasionally, and almost always never matching, it’s not a completely wrong statement. The most noticeable aspect of the clothes he tends to wear is a pair of oddly shaped headphones. It would have been enough if it was just the fact that they were only connected by a wire in the back and a single red cord from the left headphone leading to an MP3 player that K1 keeps clipped onto his sweater collar (Said cord is insanely long when fully extended (it retracts into the left headphone, thus keeping K1 from accidentally tripping over the cord)). The headphones also have a large antenna piece that connects the two headphones. Noticeably, the antenna almost resembles a demon’s horns with the way it bends.
At the time of K1’s arrival on Dimensional Island, it was summer, but one wouldn’t know that by the clothing he was wearing, consisting of a black sweater with sleeves that only go down to his elbows and a pair of red, almost magenta, pants. As far as shoes, he tends to wear a rather worn pair of black shoes with shoestrings the same color as his pants.
By the time K1 has come back to the island after becoming the King of Bel, there are quite a few noticeable changes in his appearance. Most visibly, he’s now wearing a large black cloak over his normal clothes (This particular cape was actually made by his cousin Naoya). Besides the new cloak, his expression has changed to reflect his new status as King of Bel.
While the previous K1 had an almost innocent (but not childishly innocent) looking face, “Abel” has an almost sinister one, akin to that of his cousin Naoya’s expression 99% of the time. When not looking like he’s going to murder you (which is “Abel’s” expression when NOT around people his previous self was friends with), he has a sort of blank expression on his face. Noticeably, when he’s pulling upon his new demonic power, his eyes gain slitted pupils, like a cat’s (these also appear when he’s particularly angry or frustrated). The most noticeable aspect of his new self is his “aura,” though. To those that can sense them, the teen practically radiates dark energy to the point that he’s pretty much swimming in it. If one was going by the aura alone, they would be unable to tell the difference between “Abel” and a demon.
Weapons: When it comes to weapons, “Abel” doesn’t need weapons. He’s even stopped using his COMP, as it became useless after someone gained the Throne of Bel anyways. He also still keeps around his devil’s fuge cell phone strap, though he’s never had to use it against anyone since he defeated Beldr.
Abilities/Powers: Due to absorbing the essence of every Bel demon, especially that of Babel, “Abel” has been imbued with the powers of a demon. He no longer requires his COMP to put him on equal levels with a demon; he can go toe to toe with one on his own. This is one of the many reasons he’s been called a demon in human form; his strength and speed is far greater than that of a human. He also has full control over the Demon Summoning Server due to absorbing Babel, and can decide whether a modded COMP has access to the Demon Summoning Program. He can also use this control to summon demons without usage of a COMP itself.
He also has a natural ability to speak in the tongue of demons, something that is hard for humans to emulate due to the natural inflections of the language, especially the reverb inherent in the speech that cannot be completely emulated by humans. This aids with controlling the demons he commands.
During the Lockdown, he also discovered he was naturally resistant to Mystic skills. In Persona terms, this includes status-reducing skills and instant kill skills like the Hama and Mudo line of skills. In fact, Light-based skills in particular actually reflect off of him.
Skills: As a human, K1 was a fairly good cook. As “Abel”, he’s shown rather good leadership skills, even if half of it’s because he’s the King of Bel and thus pretty much the leader of all of the demons. Now that he’s regained his memories, “Abel” can also speak ancient Hebrew, as that was the language he spoke in his first life. He’s also picked up some English from his brother Seth (born as Keiji Kurosawa), who grew up in the US.
Personality: The original K1 was what could be described as innocent, trusting, perhaps a little too trusting. As a kid, he practically worshipped the ground his “cousin”, Naoya, walked. While he didn’t quite do that when he got older, he was still rather trusting of Naoya, to the point that he would help Naoya wage war against God. After Yuzu and Midori left him upon his decision to do so, though, he started suffering issues with trusting other people. Yuzu didn’t know it, but by deciding to leave K1 like she had, she had pushed him further toward Naoya. These issues with trusting people were not helped by his experiences on the Island; upon arriving on the island, K1 practically latched onto his new friends on the island, Yuugi and Atem, and when they broke his trust, he began to believe that the only people he could trust were Naoya, Keiji, Atsuro, and maybe Kaido.
Something to note is that as K1 began absorbing more of the essences of various Bel demons, his personality began to very slightly change as an adverse effect of the demonic energy he was absorbing. This was noticed as early on as right after he defeated Beldr by Yuzu; she noted in an email to him that night that it felt like he was going to leave them after he defeated Beldr. It was only after he defeated Belphegor that most people began noticing the slight darkening of his personality. After Belphegor was defeated, his stance changed as well, and began to resemble the way Naoya carried himself. There was also a slight lack of emotion in his voice.
After Keiji joined K1, K1 became fiercely protective of him. It was actually before Keiji joined his team that K1 became so fiercely protective of his twin; during the fight with Belphegor, K1 had gone berserk at the very sight of Keiji’s possibly dead body. This was driven up to 11 after K1 returned to his home dimension; he went berserk once at the very sight of Belphegor’s animated shell during the Babel fight. And then it was brought up to 12 if that was even possible after he became Abel, which is elaborated on in History.
Once K1 became Abel, the teen known as Keiichi Kimura was almost completely suppressed. Abel is cold, commanding, and cruel. And most noticeably, he was no longer so innocent and trusting. He would not hesitate to kill anyone should the need come, and he could do it rather easily too. There is a noticeable lack of emotion in both his voice and face.
This does not mean that there is nothing that remains of Keiichi Kimura. But because of how in touch with his demonic side he now is, how much K1 there is depends on the phase of the moon and the situation. During a full moon, there is almost no K1 apparent, and during a new moon, it is easiest to talk to the former human teen. But even during a new moon, it is still possible to set his demonic side off and send it into a berserker state. And such berserker states are very dangerous for all involved.
History: “Abel’s” history starts many years ago, back during the time of the Old Testament. Cain and Abel were the first children of Adam and Eve. Cain was a farmer, and Abel was a shepherd. Then Cain and Abel gave their best sacrifices to God, and God liked Abel’s much better. Cain became jealous and murdered Abel. For his crime, Cain was cursed with being endlessly reincarnated, and remembering every life he lived. Abel’s essence, meanwhile, scattered as it too reincarnated endlessly, but unlike Cain, Abel reincarnated into several different people, and none of them remembered their past lives. Many Abels, one Cain.
Fast forward to modern times. During a particularly nasty divorce between a Mr. and Mrs. Kimura, residents of Tokyo, Japan, Mrs. Kimura, who happened to be pregnant with Mr. Kimura’s twin children at the time, had her water break in the middle of divorce court. She was rushed to the hospital, where she gave birth to the twins, whom were named Keiichi and Keiji, or K1 and K2. Obviously, Mrs. Kimura was feeling particularly punny that day. Due to various events, custody of Keiichi ended up being granted to Mr. Kimura, while custody of Keiji was granted to Mrs. Kimura, who after the divorce, went back to using her maiden name of Kurosawa. Neither parent informed their child that they were a twin, and Keiichi grew up believing that his stepmother was his birth mother, not being given any evidence to the contrary.
When K1 was three, his cousin Naoya, whose parents had died recently in a car accident, came to live with him. Naoya was more of a brother than a cousin to K1, and they grew rather close. K1 also became friends with a Yuzu Tanikawa, and as he grew older, gained more than a bit of a crush on her, but he was always too nervous to act on it. Meanwhile, he also became friends with Atsuro Kihara, a programmer who GREATLY admired Naoya. And even though Naoya eventually moved out of the Kimura house, K1 stayed close to him, to the point that he stayed at Naoya’s apartment for a short time during one fateful summer. Before the week that would change their lives happened, though, K1 returned back to his parents’ house right outside of the Yamanote Line and stayed there for much of the summer.
One day in the middle of August, Naoya called Yuzu, Atsuro, and K1 and asked them to meet up with him. Naoya ended up being unable to make it, but he was able to give Yuzu three COMPs, DS-like devices that were more like cellphones than game systems. Upon activating the COMPs, the three discovered that these particular COMPs were more than they appeared to be, and could summon demons. To add to the “fun”, the very next day, the entire Yamanote Line was locked down, and K1 and friends were stuck inside Tokyo, which had become infested with demons. As time went on, things just got worse and worse. One of Atsuro’s old friends, Keisuke, joined the group, went off the deep end the following day after finding out that Midori, a demon tamer with a huge hero complex and a camgirl before the Lockdown, was going to be killed by humans, not demons, and then Keisuke was killed by the leader of a gang called the Daemons after Keisuke had decided it was a great idea to start serving justice to people in the Lockdown as well. Yuzu started practically breaking down; she wanted to do nothing but break free of the lockdown, even after learning what would happen if anyone broke the Lockdown, and as time went on K1’s trust in Naoya was often challenged by, well, everyone. But he still trusted his cousin no matter what.
Adding to the “fun” was the war for the Throne of Bel, which basically amounted to becoming the king of the demons. K1 inadvertently became part of the war when he killed Beldr using a cell phone strap carved from mistletoe, and in order to survive, he had to win the war. As time went on, and he absorbed the essence of more Bel demons, K1 began becoming more demonlike himself. During the lockdown itself, these changes went practically unnoticed because his body hadn’t yet adjusted to the demonic energy gathering within the teen, but later on, they were very much noticeable. He never mentioned to his friends the horrible feeling he got whenever he absorbed a Bel demon’s essence.
And finally, the seventh and final day of the lockdown came. The night before the seventh day, K1 made his choice, and decided that he would help his cousin with what he was planning. Naoya was actually planning a war against God, and K1 was going to lead a demon army against God once he became the King of Bel. And with the events of the lockdown, and K1’s practical worshipping of the ground Naoya walked, God was no friend of K1’s either. If defeating God would save humanity from an eternity of trials and nothing but, K1 would do it. And while Atsuro stayed with K1, Midori and Yuzu would have nothing of this plan, and left K1’s group. While Midori hadn’t bothered him much, Yuzu’s decision heavily shook the teen, and he started having issues trusting people due to this. And then he found out that Naoya was the reincarnation of Cain, and K1 was a reincarnation of Abel. If anything shook him, it was this knowledge. He’d read the story of Cain and Abel before, during World Literature studies in school, so he had an idea what Naoya was talking about. But Naoya didn’t appear to hold any of that murderous malice now… and so K1 still followed him.
During the lockdown, Naoya had discovered the existence of a Bel demon outside their own dimension, one known as Belphegor. Because it was entirely possible this demon still being alive would prevent them from gaining the throne, Naoya sent K1 and himself to this alternate dimension to defeat Belphegor. As it turned out, said alternate dimension was the Dimensional Island, and because of how the time streams worked on the island, K1 arrived a good three or four days before Naoya did. And again because of the time streams, he was almost completely unaware of why he was on the island, though he remembered Naoya sending him there for some vague reason. Upon coming to the island, K1 befriended Yuugi Mutou, and by extension, Atem, and as such, when the issue came up, they were the first people he told his secret to, and their reaction to it had been enough to convince him not to tell anyone else. During K1’s time on the island, they were his best friends.
And then Keiji appeared on the island. Keiji had been chosen to be a back-up Messiah after K1 turned down the position in favor of waging war against God, and the twin had a rather black and white outlook on life, one that, for lack of a better word, pissed K1 off. The arrival of some long lost twin that appeared to be out of some bad soap opera very much rattled K1.
And then Keiji was kidnapped by Belphegor while protecting K1 and Naoya, who had recently been struck by an affliction known as Apathy Syndrome, which essentially was caused by Shadows feeding off of a person’s brain. Upon waking up from the Syndrome and learning what had happened to Keiji, the darkness that had been gathering up inside K1 practically exploded. The formerly almost “innocent” teen became very dark and murderous. He would stop at nothing to rip Belphegor to pieces, to tear that “son of a bitch” to shreds. This darkness that had gathered up inside of him made him even more distrustful of everyone, and when he found out that Yuugi and Atem had broken their promise to not tell anyone of his true self as Abel, K1 practically broke off the friendship that had formed over the past month. He hadn’t even had a chance to fix it when he, Naoya, Keiji (who after the Belphegor incident, had joined K1’s group), and Midori (who had come to the island through some glitch in the program) were brought back to their home dimension, where things proceeded as planned. There was some confusion, naturally, when Atsuro, Kaido, and Mari met Keiji, but they eventually accepted him. The new group proceeded to the top of the Hills building, where they battled the remaining Bel demon, Belberith. This was the first time that Atsuro encountered one of K1’s berserker modes. During the fight, Belberith attacked Keiji a total of four times with some very powerful –Dyne spells. This send K1 into a berserker state, and using several Megidolaon spells, K1 was able to defeat Belberith on his own and absorbed the demon’s energy. This was the point where his transition into Abel began to become even more physical. There was just something unsettling about his eyes now. Once Belberith was defeated, K1 used the power of Bel within him to summon Babel to the human realm. K1 fought Babel, and after defeating a manifestation of it, a sort of defense program, Babel pulled the essences of the Bels K1 had already defeated from him and created a set of automated shells for him to battle that resembled and acted like the demons K1 had fought. As K1 tore through the demons, he began becoming more demonic, to the point that he actually defeated Belberith just as the demon finished its introduction speech. And then Belphegor’s shell appeared.
To say that K1 went berserk was an understatement. This was no human rage he had fallen into. The teen had begun ripping into Belphegor before the demon had even finished materializing, and the entire group had been more than happy to get the hell away from him once he fell into the rage. Even his eyes no longer resembled that of a human. The pupils of his eyes had slitted and there was a grin on his face that made Naoya’s worst look friendly. It had taken Keiji yelling his human name and running in between K1 and his almost dead prey to get K1 to fall out of his berserk mode, and even then K1 nearly killed Keiji. After K1 fell out of his berserk mode, he was encouraged to throw away his humanity by Babel. K1 entered battle with the giant tower-like demon and upon defeating it, absorbed Babel’s energy.
When the group returned from the dimension where they had fought Babel to their own dimension, K1 was no longer human. He had remembered his memories of his life as Abel, and he had become nothing more than a demon in human form. From there, he successfully gathered every demon in the Lockdown to him, and negotiated the end of the Tokyo Lockdown.
And then things started to go a bit screwy. It started with Abel accidentally leading the army past his home as a human. K1 was stirred up by this action, and Abel eventually was pushed into saying goodbye to the two people he had known as his parents. Then, soon after that, a few demons in the army had been thinking of killing Seth (who had stopped referring to himself as Keiji by this point), leading to Abel going berserk and ripping those demons apart, which caused Abel to have to return the majority of the army, including his advisor, Kikuri-Hime, to the demon realm. Then after that, while Mari was out looking for a first aid kit for Seth’s injuries, Kaido and Abel had a disagreement that lead to Abel, and then Cain (aka Naoya), nearly killing Kaido. And then Atsuro ended up nearly being killed by a pack of Garms while he was out looking for Mari. After Atsuro was saved by the mysterious purple suited man the group had spotted during the lockdown several times, the group finally made it out of Tokyo, now with only four demons left. The group set up camp outside Tokyo in a wooded area.
Things went better the next day, despite the fact that Mari left the group shortly after Abel announced that they were going to the demon realm. She had only come along with them to avenge Kaido’s brother’s death; she had no reason to stay with the group, and wanted to help the humans of the world with the aftermath of the Lockdown. Abel did not object, and after Atsuro came back with breakfast (a bag of bread crusts from a bakery), the group arrived in the Demon Realm. The group then went to a town, where Abel used a show of force to get the demons of the town to listen to him and bring him their leader. Their Lord was brought to him. In all actuality, she was Lilith, a former lover of Cain’s. After a tense moment where Lilith attempted to seduce Abel, Abel managed to get Lilith to join his side.
Soon after this, Abel decided to question Cain about Cain’s memories. Unfortunately, this lead to a bit of K1 coming out, Abel asking some questions that lead to some rather uncomfortable answers, and ultimately, K1 attempting to beat the crud out of Cain after finding out that Cain had known he was Abel and that he had been manipulating his cousin most of the time they were together. Atsuro stopped K1 from attacking Cain, and Cain then took the chance to inflict an injury on K1 that lead to him bleeding quite a bit all over the floor. The injury was healed, but Abel now no longer regarded Cain with the blind trust he had as Keiichi.
A couple months passed without too much incident. About a month after K1 became Abel, the King of Bel, their first Full Moon occurred. It was the most jarring for Seth, who had literally become the only thing keeping K1 from being completely consumed by Abel, as there literally was no K1 that could be sensed in Abel on that day. He had completely suppressed K1’s personality. After the full moon passed, Abel returned to normal, or at least as normal as he could be now.
Eventually, the vassals of the King of Bel were able to seize a castle for their use, and moved into it. Another Full Moon came, and Seth and Atsuro were sent away for a meeting with the Lord of the Western Territories of the Demon Realm, a little girl named Alice. While they were gone, a group of demons sent by Alice showed up at the castle, including a demon that had taken the form of Seth. After “negotiations” (a demonic checkers game) started going wrong on Alice’s side, she enacted plan B. Plan B was get Seth’s doppelganger to kill itself in full view of Abel to send the king into a berserker state. It worked a little too well. By the time Abel was brought out of it and successfully calmed down, he had practically broken down. Afterwards, Abel forcibly took control of Alice’s territories.
Another month or so passed, and Abel decided to return to the Island. The months of preparing for war against God had exhausted him. He needed some time to relax, and an interdimensional island where he could take all of the time in the world would work perfectly. Not only that, but K1 missed his friends from the Island, even if he had left on bad terms with them. With aid from Cain’s programming skills, the group of Abel, Cain, Seth, Atsuro, and Kaido left for the Dimensional Island.
Other: Even though it’s useless now, “Abel” still keeps his COMP with him, as it’s still much like a security blanket to him. The only function of it he still uses is the Death Clock, which allows him to see when someone will die if they have less than 10 days to live.
