History: ((WARNING! WARNING! SPOILER ALERT! SPOLIER ALERT! If anyone reads the Hollow Fields manga and hasn’t finished, don’t look!))
When Lucy Snow first arrived in the town of Nullsville, Austrailia, she got lost looking for the boarding school she was supposed to be enrolled in, St. Galbat’s Academy for Young Ladies. After taking a path through the forest in the rain, she came across a large building. This building was Ms. Weaver’s Scientific Academy for the Scientifically Gifted and Ethically Unfettered- otherwise known as Hollow Fields.
Upon entering the building, she was attacked by the building’s caretaker, a living doll named Miss Notch, who accused her of trespassing. As Lucy explained herself, she mentioned that she was enrolled at “the school in town.” Thinking that meant that she was a new student at Hollow Fields, Miss Notch instead welcomed her to the school, and showed her to an empty dorm room. She also presented Lucy with a contract to officially enroll in the school, as all students are required to do upon arrival. After seeing the room and hearing about certain perks of being at the school, compared to her impression of St. Galbat’s, Lucy eagerly signed the contract without even trying to read it.
After going to her first meal at the school shortly afterwards, she found out quickly that this school wasn’t what she first thought it was. What was originally thought to be just another boarding school with great rooms turned out to be an academy for future generations of mad scientists and evil geniuses. The teachers are either scientific monstrosities or patched up corpses with robotic parts, and the student with the lowest grades at the end of the week gets sent to detention at the old windmill and is never seen again. Of course, Lucy tried to escape after discovering the truth, but any attempts at this were thwarted by Miss Notch, stating that the contract she signed binds her to the school until graduation.
One day, after dinner, Lucy met an old friend of hers from her first day at Hollow Fields. He was one of the children who were sent to the windmill and never returned. However, he wasn’t the same. His voice was otherworldly, his skin was pale and stitched down the forehead, and his eyes were pitch black. Before the school caretaker, Mister Stinch managed to take him away, he mentioned that there was something going on at the windmill. Lucy then decided that she would stay at the school and find out what was going on at the windmill, and if possible save the kids that are trapped there.
It was later discovered that the teachers were using the children sent to the windmill as test subjects in an experiment to swap their decaying bodies with those of the children in order to live forever. None of the children survived the process until after the most recent arrival in the windmill was deemed a success. However, they eventually got so greedy that a large fight emerged over who would get to receive a new body first. This fight ended up destroying the school in the process as Lucy shut down the experiment and helped to get her fellow students out.
Shortly after, the school was rebuilt under a new headmaster, Doctor Artimus Bleak, Miss Weaver’s old husband whose soul she trapped in a clockwork machine. Unlike Weaver, Doctor Bleak’s new vision for the school is to use the “forbidden sciences” in ways that would benefit the world rather than subjugate it. Lucy was one of the students at this new school.
