Full Name: Jayne Cobb
Nicknames: None to note
Age: ?( Late 30s-early 40s)
Height: ?(Average)
Weight: ?(High end of average)
Gender: Male
Race: Human(...well, some would say so)
Alliance: Chaotic Neutral
Home: Serenity(The ship, not the planet from the end of the war)
Franchise: Firefly
Physical Description: Jayne has a rather muscular build, which is to say that in the Firefly 'verse, he's basically the incredible friggin' Hulk. His hair is short cut, almost to the point of being a crew cut. He has a bit of an epic goatee going on, because hey, what badass doesn't sport one? The clothes he wears usually consist of a light brown shirt and a pair of dark brown pants, with even darker brown shoes. He has his gun holstered in a way that I call 'The Han Solo'. For all purposes, he has his epic orange, wool knit, cap on.
Weapons: Jayne was more fortunate than either Mal or Simon, and as such, has a few weapons on him. A hand gun, and Vera. Vera being his far favored, much larger, gun.
Abilities/Powers: Powers? Jayne Cobb doesn't need powers. He could bench press a Reaver.
Skills: He is, as has been mentioned, pretty strong.
Personality: Jayne is... a jerk. There's really no other way to describe him. He has his shining moments, sure, but as his history will prove, he is a jerk. A jerk with a heart of gold, yes, but a jerk.
History: Jayne started off as nothing more than a petty criminal. He was but a bit player in a small-time gang. This all changed, however, when his gang held up a certain Malcolm Reynolds and a certain Zoe Washburn. They promised him an option for more, a chance to be... a part of something. With that, he promptly switched sides, cementing his spot in his new crew by shooting his former comrade and asking a simple question: "How big a room?"
Unlike the captain and his right hand... woman, Jayne didn't fight in the Unification war. It is unknown what he did during this time, but this author suspects he was using war-time to terrorize the outer planets. Or run jobs, such as the one spoken of in Jaynestown, during which he lost his first partner. Out of places to run, with their ship going down fast, he dropped his partner AND the money.
Regardless of what he did, it's where Jayne was going that mattered. On Serenity he found something he'd never had. He found a family. This all became blatantly obvious when, after one of the passengers they routinely picked up turned out to be an alliance mole, Kaylee(the engineer) was shot. Jayne waited outside her room during her surgery, and would not leave. He was also particularly angry with the fellow that had shot her. This, of course, all added up to him being selected to torture him into talking. Unfortunately for Jayne, the man revealed that the Alliance knew nothing before Jayne had even gotten a chance to harm him. He was going to get an ear, too...
Anyway, Jayne went down to the planet with Zoe and Mal, and took out the sniper that their contact had set up to kill them. He promptly took over the man's spot, helping the captain and Zoe when a gun fight broke out. One thing to note is that Jayne had a chance to turn on Mal, but stated that the 'money wasn't good enough'.
This would come up again in the episode Ariel, when Jayne was again presented with a chance to turn on the crew. Only this time, he took it. Simon and River were captured by the Alliance, according to the deal. Only, the man went back on his end, and took Jayne as well. He managed to use his badassery to get them out, but was soon found out by captain Malcolm Reynolds. He wasn't too okay with Jayne's act, and threatened to throw him out of the ship as it left atmo. Jayne pulled a surprise move, however, and actually CARED what the crew thought about him, asking Mal not to tell them what he'd done. It was probably this that kept Mal from actually disposing of him.
Jayne stood with his crew in their fight against the Reavers after the events of Serenity. It also would have been nice if they'd have brought some grenades, don't you think?
However, after losing a good friend AND a pilot, the crew's morale wasn't exactly the best ever. So they took any job they could get, at that point. They needed credits. And they needed to forget what they'd seen on that planet where they discovered the origins of the Reavers.
This would come in the form of an individual asking them to steal a piece of Alliance tech. Even worse, it was on one of the best guarded core planets. We're talking Peresphone/Ariel levels here. Normally Mal would've laughed at the fellow and adamantly REFUSED the job. But the pay was good. No, the pay was GREAT. He'd be able to buy all those gadgets Kaylee'd kept bugging him about AND more. And Jayne... well, Jayne just wanted money. Screw Kaylee's gadgets, MONEY!
With a lot of help and epicness along the way, Mal and Jayne managed to infiltrate the stronghold it was being held in. To fully see how amazing that was, reread the top sentence. That's right. Mal had taken JAYNE with him and managed to SNEAK IN a place. And it had gone off without much of a hitch, too! Looked like things were finally going smooth for the crew of Serenity.
Well, almost. After not messing up the entire time, Jayne decided it would be a great idea to accidentally turn the device on. Which led to, you guessed it, Mal being SUCKED INTO the gorram thing. Really, what were the Alliance WORKING ON? I mean, God. Luckily, Jayne managed to catch the device and get back to the crew. It's what their former captain would've wanted.
Crew wasn't too happy with hearing 'hey, Captain might be dead, guys', of course. Their morale took another nosedive, of course. But hey, luckily enough, the Alliance, realizing the portal had been activated, wanted to know the results. And maybe lock up the crew, but we'll ignore that, mmkay? River, being River, managed to get the crew out. Way to go being saved by the 90 pound girl that later kicks your ass, Jayne!
After quite a bit of arguing, the decision is made to rescue Mal. Because, hey, what if he ISN'T dead? And besides, they still need to be paid. I mean, they HAVE the gorram thing. Zoe becomes captain, due to Jayne not remembering where he left the chain of command. Luckily, even though they don't get their payment, Jayne makes a deal for Simon and River to get taken. Unfortunately, this leads to the entire crew, including Jayne, getting captured. And the ship getting taken to an impound lot. Congrats again, Jayne!
River, unfortunately, is held separately from the crew. So even though Zoe manages to get MOST out, they still have to go back for River. As she IS their pilot, and as Simon won't stop complaining. I mean, really. Even worse, when Zoe decides to split up the group, Jayne gets paired up with Simon. Why does ZOE get to be paired with Kaylee?
Even worse, most of the group suspects that the entire shebang is Jayne's fault. I mean, really. Maybe it was Mal's idea, huh? Why's it got to be JAYNE? Is HE the number one suspect?
Well, yes. Yes he is. And with good reason. But hey, at least they rescue River... and then Simon gets caught in the chaos, and, well, tossed through the portal. Luckily, River and Jayne eventually manage to get to a room where they keep the portal generator. Unluckily, Simon's already been tossed through. River uses her math powers to figure it out, and realizes that it's nonlethal. Jayne doesn't. This is important. Even more important? She KNOWS, not suspects, what Jayne's done.
The two get into a fight, and Jayne gets his ass handed to him by a 90 pound girl. You can almost hear Wash laughing. She disarms him, and forces him through the portal. But, hey, she throws Vera in afterwards, so it's all good.
...did I mention that he still thinks it'll kill him? Yeeeaaahhh...
