In my opinion, it's a beautiful song)

He walked into the cemetary, his head hanging, black dress flowing around him. Coming up to the one grave where it merely said Cho on the tombstone, nothing else, no words of sympathy or love, but just the name. She was supposed to be in Heaven, but the recent discovery that her soul had been taken by Lucifer to torment for all eternity had shattered the poor swordmaster's heart beyond recovery. In fact, he often found himself contemplating death, but then there was one factor beyond all others that kept him from taking his own life and that was Marth. Truely Terra loved the Prince, but it hurt him every time he realized he could not get better, every time he looked at Marth and smiled... Every time he smiled a fake smile. On his knees before the grave, memories of the voices of past lovers and his past friend Cho began to swirl around him.

"Who are you and what are you doing at my doorstep?"

"I see... So that's why you were running away. Daein's gone to the dogs... We're all living in fear under Ashnard's rule."

"Let's run away! Let's elope and live somewhere peaceful, like Begnion or Crimea! Let's get away from Daein!"

"I'm sorry... I did not wish for you to die like this Jessica... I'm so sorry... So very sorry..."

"You look depressed... Maybe I can help you get better?"

"Terra-chan?! Wanna play a game with me?!"

"I want to come with Ike-sama because I want to always be by Terra-chan's side. That's why I must go with you."

"She turned you to stone... and broke you apart... Shizune... I wanted to be with you forever! Why did you have to come with me?! WHY COULDN'T I HAVE DIED IN YOUR PLACE?!

"I promise, Cho... I'll protect you... I won't let your father find you."

"Terra's my daddy now. I love him and he loves me and he takes good care of me."

"Daddy, daddy, can I please have some ice cream?!"

"I promise I'll protect you, Cho."

"MONSTER! MURDERER! MOOOOOOONSTEEEEEEER!"

"She was supposed to go on to a land free from pain! But now she's stuck there forever!"

"I believe you daddy... thank you for protecting me."

"I couldn't protect any of them..." Terra's eyes were overfilling with tears. "How can I win Cho back from the Devil... If I couldn't protect any of them... How can I go on smiling and falling in love... when everyone I've cared for has died..." His head was tossed back as he yelled out, "HOW CAN I CHALLENGE THE ULTIMATE EVIL WHEN I CAN'T EVEN PROTECT A LITTLE GIRL?!" His head fell again. "I'm nothing but a failure... That's all I've ever been... From the day I was... born..."

"You are not meant to be heir to our family. Alex is the eldest and will take command of our army instead."

"Wrong! That is the wrong way to perform a Deadly Slice! Why can't you be more like Alex?!"

"You're weak... pathetic... You should be more like your brother!"

"They always compared me to him... How could I have ever tried to fight destiny?" Terra's head fell to the ground, his hand grasping his hair in a mad gesture of pain. "Maybe this is my punishment... for going against the destiny fate laid out for me... As the servent to Daein... As the servent to what was a kingdom ruled by a tyrannical empire...!"

"...then you would've done something that went against your heart," a voice spoke behind him. Marth stood a fair distance away. "...and that would've been even worse."

Terra's head turn, his expression one of shock. "M... Marth-chan..."

All the fake smiles stop now, don't they? He would know now... Or have an idea of how I've been doing this... But isn't this what I deserve?

"I... I..."

Marth shook his head, resting a finger to his own lips as he took a few steps closer. "Shh... you don't have to explain yourself. I cannot imagine the pain you're in, but... I can still do my best to see you through it."

Terra stared at Marth for a short moment, but then his head fell.

Day after day, I've wanted to die... Thought of you gave me... a reason to live...

"I'm sorry... I'm so..."

"Terra, there's no apology needed." Finally, they met face-to-face, and Marth took the youth's hands into his own. "...not for what you're going through."

"... Don't you think of me as selfish at all?"

For continuing to dwell on this accursed pain, even though I said I'd leave it behind?

Don't you value your own life? Wouldn't you be safer away from someone as cursed as me?

"Only if you continue to dwell on it and push others away," Marth replied honestly. "If you don't wish to be so, I'll help you through the steps of recovery. You need to try, and trust in me."

For some reason, when I looked at you, I wanted to always be with you... That's how much I trusted you from the very start.

Marth held him comfortingly, stroking his long hair. Whatever it would take, he would remain at the swordmaster's side. Because he did not deserve to suffer like this. He was gentle, beautiful, full of concern for those close to him... Marth would love nothing more than to see him truly smile again.

Terra wrapped his arms around Marth, burying his head softly into the Prince's chest. He was so soft... so warm... and Terra felt comfort there. For the first time in a long while, Terra smiled. And there was no trace of falseness within it. Fake smiles were for those who wanted to hide their pain, but true smiles marked the beginning of recovery.
