Anna held a sad smile. "My mother died giving birth to my twin sister and I... She was a neko, but I carried on pure human blood. My sister, however, took on the neko blood, and... She was sold by my father to grow up as a sex slave. I didn't know this until I was ten yearsd old and I ran away to find her. A few days after I ran, I heard that my father was shot. I continued looking for my sister anyway... But she's... She's also been killed out here."

A look of shock crossed Jeff's face. He could tell she was sad, but he didn't know it was anything like this. He felt terrible, and he wasn't sure what to say.
"I...I'm so sorry...about your loss..." he replied, shakily. He couldn't think of much else to say and felt bad about it.

"Why do you feel so terrible? It's not your fault. I was told my sister was killed in some ritual to prove one's loyalty to a certain... Antichrist? But I shouldn't be too upset. The same person that killed her is now dead as well. I was just afraid... of being alone..." Anna sighed. "It was such a stupid fear, but... I had left lots of my friends behind for this and... The way back home closed... So..."

"I couldn't imagine what it would be like to go through all that," Jeff sympathized ", You're so much stronger than me...in that sense I mean...y'know what I mean...yeah..." he started to get all flustered, not sure what he was trying to say. Normally he was the intelligent one who always knew what to say but she made him nervous.

"I might've... I might've died... But... Well... I lied. I don't like to tell people how my mother truely died. When I was five, she shot herself in the head in front of me. I might've died, but... after seeing that, I swore I'd never let myself die in depression and suicide, so... I have a promise to keep, one of my few reasons for living," Anna said, and then she looked ashamed for lying to Jeff.

There was a long awkward silence. Jeff was starting to feel real uncomfortable not having anything to say. He quickly had to think of something to ask to start up the conversation again.
"Um...so...where do you live here on the island?" he asked.
