Physical Description
Jounouchi is a somewhat tall Japanese teenager with a complexion that falls into the ranges of average. He has brown eyes and blond hair described as many to be of the "dirty" variety. His stance tends to be rather casual, although aggressive is far from uncommon for him.
His hair is a bit on the chaotic end of things. At best it seems to be a series of loosely arranged clumps that sometimes make people wonder how often he's seen a brush. It comes down to a sharp point in the back and reaches down far enough that it is on the long end of short. His bangs, if they could be called that, are large, and they create a hard to describe effect in the way they sweep over his forehead. They do the same in the opposite angles in the back.
Jounouchi's eyes do seem to be glaring a lot. He's quite capable of looking annoyed, angry, or just plain scary. He's also capable of looking the part of the clown, and his expression is dictated more by his mouth than any other part of his face. His neutral expression seems a bit angry and/or aggressive.
He has a relaxed and casual style that manages to carry over even if he is wearing his school uniform, which in his homeworld he preferred taking off as soon as he was able. He isn't a big fan of conformity and that sometimes comes through in his manner of dress. Long-sleeved jacket shirts are a fave, and he likes his pants tough enough to withstand a bit of rough and tumble. He also likes shoes that are easy to move in, such as tennis shoes. His color choices tend to be lighter, but rarely pastel.
When he comes to the Island, Jounouchi's in a fairly standard outfit, although not one of his most standard. He has on sky blue t-shirt that he covers with a long white jacket shirt. The shirt has longsleeves with the cuffs rolled up once. It has an exaggerated collar and the bottom extends halfway down his thighs. He is wearing blue jeans and tennis hoes. The jeans fit a bit tighter than the rest of his outfit, but none of it is overly loose or tight. The jeans are just tight enough that one could make out the faint outline of a deck of cards in his left pocket and a wallet in his back one.
Weapons
Jounouchi doesn't have any weapons in the traditional sense of the word. And in the traditional sense of fighting, he wouldn't need them considering he's a rather skilled street brawler. In the non-traditional sense, however, he does have a deck of forty Duel Monsters cards. As with all the other people from his homeworld, the Island has caused the cards to be able to manifest the monster spirits known as Ka the way they could be summoned in Ancient Egypt. His signature monster is known as the "Red Eyes, Black Dragon" and it seems the one with the greatest link to his own Ba or life/summoning force.
Abilities/Powers
Jounouchi can summon the Ka from any card from his home world and use the power of his Ba to cast the spells and make use of the traps displayed on the cards, although this is arguably possible for anyone with cards from his homeworld. Like Kaiba, Yuugi, and Atem, Jounouchi has a few Ka he wouldn't need direct access to his cards to access. However, none of them are aware of this yet. For Jounouchi, Red Eyes, Black Dragon and Flame Swordsman are the two he could for sure access in this manner.
Another power that Jounouchi has but is completely unaware of that developed as a result of one of Atem's decisions on the Island is his new connection to one of the seven Millennium Items. The Millennium Scales have attached themselves to him and he could access their powers if he even thought to try and was willing. Unlike every previous person accepted by the Items, it did not accept Jounouchi for any connection to the ancient past. It accepted him for his connection to the new future.
Skills
Jounouchi's two main skills are fighting and Dueling, a term used for those who play the Duel Monsters card game of his home world. While the teenager does seem to rely on sheer dumb luck at least half the time, he can actually hold his own against the two Duelists regarded as the best in the world in his home country, Seto Kaiba and Yuugi Mutou. There are those that criticize him for his reliance on luck, but said luck has won him more than a few matches.
As for his fighting, Jounouchi is an accomplished street fighter and can hold his own against gangs that outnumber him to ridiculous amounts. He fought a lot when he was younger and the skills still carry over. If he has one of his closest friends, Honda, at his side, he's able to hold himself even better. Where as before he would fight to rebel, these days he fights for the right reasons, such as protecting his friends and those he cares about.
Personality
Jounouchi does nothing halfway. He's loud, exuberant, in your face, and often a bit cocky. He tends to let things go to his head rather quickly, but he's got the resiliency of a cockroach. He's more than a bit stubborn, and rather easy to rile up to boot. He's also loyal, unfading, and won't stop supporting his friends even if it puts him in significant danger. It is no understatement to say he would sacrifice his life for those of his friends having quite literally done so in the past.
One could say he has an oversized heart, but sometimes it can be hard to tell. His hyperactivity tends to cause one of two reactions, on the opposite ends of the positive or negative spectrums. He doesn't act in any certain way because he is expected to and is rather known for throwing etiquette out the window. He's got a large sensitive side, but he'll often try to shield most people from seeing it. It comes out most often when his little sister Shizuka is involved. He's good at playing the mother bear older brother in regards to her.
History
Jounouchi was the first born of two siblings. He was a pretty typical older brother, razzing his younger sister Jounouchi but caring about her more than life itself at the same time. Even when he was little, he'd beat the crap out of anyone that made his sister cry. His parents fought a lot and his father was verbally and at times physically abusive. This eventually lead to his mother running off with Shizuka, the child she was most concerned about when she could only manage to get one away. Eventually Jounouchi's parents divorced and his mother (and sister) went back to her maiden name. Jounouchi held feelings of bitterness towards the way his mother handled it, feelings that would continue to the present.
Jounouchi got involved in gangs shortly after his father settled into an apartment in Domino City. At the time, it was less to make a statement and more to make money. His father had many problems, among which was drinking, and he spent every last penny his family had saved up. Things only got worse when Shizuka's eyes began to go bad and the hospital bills began to pile up. His good for nothing father couldn't save money to save his life and his mother was having issues. Jounouchi developed a personality that made him seem a fair bit like a money grubbing bastard because of this.
He was going south quickly, and he probably would have burned out and gotten himself killed in Junior High if it weren't for the intervention of a student with some light ties to the gang underworld named Hiroto Honda. The two had some pretty violent encounters, a few of which left them bloody and in some pretty massive trouble with the schoolboard, but Honda's efforts managed to succeed. Between the "male bonding" and various other encounters, Honda managed to pull Jounouchi from the brink and they became close friends.
Of course, it didn't solve everything. While Jounouchi had gotten away from most (not all!) of the gang scene, he still tended to take out his frustrations on those he considered weaker. While the money he had saved managed to get him into high school, he still caused quite a few problems. And Honda was right there alongside him. Like most of Domino High School, he keyed right in on the weakest student there, a teenager the height of a pre-teen American girl by the name of Yuugi Mutou. Yuugi only made things worse for himself by never fighting back and even believing Jounouchi's claims he was just trying to toughen him up. Only reason it didn't get worse than it got was thanks to the intervention of Anzu Mazaki, a girl able to cow every male student on campus.
It was thanks to what Jounouchi initially thought of as a stupid gold box that things changed. He found the short teenager looking at it and was annoyed by his fascination with it, so he snatched it up and began teasing Yuugi with it. Anzu showed up and badgered Jounouchi into giving it back to Yuugi, not being aware that the teenager had gotten out one of the many puzzle pieces contained within while he had been taunting Yuugi. Jounouchi ended up chucking the thing into the canal outside of school.
Directly following, certain manipulations by a man named Ushio caused Honda and him to end up getting the crap beaten out of them. They were informed it was due to the way they'd been harassing Yuugi. When Yuugi was shown the scene, Jounouchi expected the kid to lay into them. They certainly deserved it. However, the sheer heights in which Yuugi's naivete and trust reached challenged everything Jounouchi thought he knew. When Yuugi put himself between Ushio and his men and them, he suddenly felt like complete crap for everything he'd done. After recovering from that incident, Jounouchi actually jumped into the canal and fished out the puzzle piece he'd thrown away before, making sure it got back to Yuugi.
He didn't question Ushio's complete mental breakdown when he showed up in school the next day, only pausing long enough to observe it and note the world was a better place if the man had lost it to the point of thinking he was being eaten alive. Disgusted with himself for how sappy he was being, he extended the offer of friendship to Yuugi and found himself being both annoyed and a little amused by how gladly Yuugi accepted it.
Their friendship grew from there. It didn't take long for Jounouchi to start noticing oddities about Yuugi, but he always chose to gloss them over. The teenager wasn't one to fret. He decided Kaiba was a complete lunatic (he already disliked the other teenager) when out of some stupid grudge towards Yuugi he forced the short teenager to participate in the "Death-T", a thinly veiled attempt to kill Yuugi after kidnapping his grandfather to force participation. Yuugi wanted to do the tournament alone, but he nor any of Yuugi's other friends would have anything to do with it. The events of the tournament and the supposed death of Honda forced Yuugi to finally admit to the others about his "other self", which Jounouchi had been suspecting for some time. He gave his full support and the day ended with a win for the group and Kaiba falling comatose.
When a somewhat reclusive but all to popular with the girls teenager named Ryou Bakura comes to Domino High, Yuugi attempts to befriend him. When Bakura stops coming to school on reports of being sick, Jounouchi is with Yuugi and his other friends when they come by his house to say hello. This gets the group involved in a "Dark Game" run by some psychotic dark side to Bakura's personality. Bakura attempts to sacrifice his life to save the others, but Dark Yuugi's attempts manages to save everyone but Dark Bakura... or so they think.
After that, Yuugi tries to get Jounouchi involved in Duel Monsters. Where as the rules of the original Japanese release known as Magic and Wizards confused poor Jounouchi to no end, he found a renewed interest in the more faithful adaptation known as Duel Monsters. When he learned of the money being offered at an upcoming tournament, he pretty much begged Yuugi's grandfather to teach him how to play, which was met with decent success. He managed to place pretty highly in the rankings, but it wasn't enough to impress most people.
However, things took an unexpected turn when Yuugi received a package from America. The group put in the VHS tape and the next thing Jounouchi or Yuugi's friends knew, the television had seemed to suck the soul out of Yuugi's grandfather. They managed to sidestep the rules thanks to Yuugi's help and a bit of stowing away, and everyone made it to the island where the "Duelist Kingdom" tournament was being held.
Over the next year, a lot more things happened. In Duelist Kingdom, Jounouchi managed to place as one of the finalists. He helped Yuugi in a virtual RPG run by some of the employees of the recovered Kaiba's company. He ends up participating in the Battle City tournament run by Kaiba, during which he basically gets possessed and almost loses his life in a vicious game set up to kill Yuugi's other self. He helps Yuugi as he fought in the phantom world created by the electronic ghost of Kaiba's brother via adoption. He is injured in the second half of the Battle City tournament by the power of the "god cards" but pulls through more due to friendship than anything else and ends up taking fourth place. He becomes a Chosen Duelist in a fight against the last king of the long lost city of Atlantis. He helped Yuugi help his other self in the odd "Memory World" Dark Game, their combined friendships helping the other Yuugi learn his real name and regain his memories.
After they exited the Memory World, everyone was happy and relieved that the trial was over. Unlike Yuugi and Anzu, Jounouchi either didn't have a clue what was supposed to happen next or was conveniently not realizing it. As Kaiba went all surly mode on the group and tried to leave, they saw Bakura on the stairs. He and Honda ran up to Bakura and caught him as he pretty much collapsed, murmuring about hunger. They headed out of the underground area first, with Jounouchi yelling at Anzu to help them.
This was about the time all hell broke loose. An earthquake hit out of nowhere and pieces of the ground did nothing short of vanishing. There was a lot of shouting, and Jounouchi was trying to keep a hold of Bakura. He was focusing on that so intently he didn't notice when the ground vanished from underneath him. The last thing he remembers before blacking out is losing his grip on Bakura's wrist... he certainly won't expect to wake up where he is, or near who he's near...
Other
Jounouchi will have the Millennium Scales on him when he is introed in the RP. I haven't listed it among his weapons as he doesn't quite know how to use them and wouldn't want to if he did. Being mind controlled to the point of almost killing your best friend does not harbor positive sentiments towards things. His new connection to them was listed in his Powers, though. Jounouchi's canon uses a blend of the first arc of the manga, the original anime, and the Duel Monsters/second series anime, all Japanese. Most of it is from the second series anime.
