Author's Note: This story idea has been bugging me for quite some time now. It's another Mario AMV, that's true, and it's another MarioXVivian. It's also angsty, had sexual references... like most of my stories... and... well, just read it.
Shadow In Darkness
Prologue
The Shadow Queen had been defeated and Mario was to return with Princess Peach to the Mushroom Kingdom. She looked at him longingly, her eyes hidden by the rim of her heart. He then looked at her because he knew she wanted to say something.
"Mario, during this journey... I've come to lo..."
Mario waited and noticed a slight tint of red enter in Vivian's shadow. But then she spoke up quickly.
"Never mind. I think you and Peach make a great couple. Heh heh heh..."
Peach frowned, then looked up at Vivian and smiled. "Thanks for the compliment, Vivian, but... I'm betrothed to another already."
Mario looked at Peach stunned, as did all the others, and Peach looked down and explained. "I recieved a call from my father before my kidnapping... He... He asks that I marry an actual Prince... He found the Prince... If I don't, I can't rule the Mushroom Kingdom for real and bring it into an era of peace... And that's all this Prince is interested in as well... It's the only way."
"What?" Mario asked.
"Are you serious?! That totally sucks!" Goombella cut in and the other partners also started to talk.
"Wow... I'm sorry, Mario... That's really sad," Koops said.
"Oh, what a tradgedy, my dear Mario. I never expected the ending of your adventure to be so sad," Flurry said.
"Man... Gonzales, I'm sorry. What a rip, huh?" Dante, Mario's Yoshi partner, asked.
"Ah well, old lad. Despite my own loss, the sea is still full of fish, right?" Bobbery asked.
"And if you're looking for a shoulder to cry on, darling, mine is always open if you come back," Ms. Mowz said. She got a lot of glares.
Vivian stayed silent for a while and everybody looked curiously at her. She jumped and then spoke as well. "I... I'm sorry Mario... T-That's sad..."
"It is, but... if it's good for the kingdom, it's good for me," Mario said, sounding like he was ok, though his eyes betrayed the sadness felt.
"Mario... I'm so sorry," Peach said as the boat returned.
"Sorry I was late. Traffic is murder," the driver said.
"Well guys... I'll see you all later," Mario said, smiling softly.
"You'd better come back soon. Me and Professor Frankley will tell you what was in the chest when you do!" Goombella said.
"Yeah. I'll also be the temporary mayor of Petalburg Town when you come to visit," Koops said.
"And you must see me perform a play of our adventure, darling. It will be to die for," Flurrie said.
"Just remember, Gonzales... Since you're leaving, I'm going to enter in the Glitz Pit myself. I'll be known as The Great Gonzales Jr.," Dante said.
"Awww, how cute," Goombella chirped and Dante shot her a look before turning back to face Mario. The red Yoshi glared at his father and then the glare turned into a grin.
"So when you come back, you and me have got to have a title match! Not only will that give me a shot at the title, but it will also give everyone in the Glitz Pit a fight to die for!" Dante said.
"Alright... you're on," Mario said, smiling softly.
"Cool!" Dante said.
"And I'll be sure to see you at sea as well, old boy," Bobbery said. "'Twere not for you, after all, Scarlette would still be gazing down on a broken Bob-Omb. This sea dog owes you a lot," Bobbery said.
"No, dont trouble yourself. Just don't leave the one thing you love. Keep to the sea and you'll be ok," Mario said.
"Well I guess this is farewell for now, darling... Vivian, why don't you say anything?" Ms. Mowz asked.
"O-Oh... right... Well... Um... Goodbye for now, Mario," Vivian said, smiling softly.
"Yeah... I'll see you soon Vivian," Mario said.
"You be sure to visit me as well, my mustached cheese hunk," Ms. Mowz said.
Ummmm... Maybe I will, Mario thought, but he told Ms. Mowz, out loud, these words instead. "Sure. I'll also visit you. I'll visit everyone when I come back. But for now, the Mushroom Kingdom will probably need me."
With that, Peacn and Mario boarded the boat. Peach looked out to the group and smiled. "Thank you so much for helping Mario save me. I am in your debts."
"It was no problem Princess! We were glad to help, huh guys?!" Goombella asked. A barrage of yeses and of courses
"Still... Thank you all," Peach said and smile nicely. The boat started up and it began to move away from Rogueport. Vivian watched it go and smiled softly. Mario... would come back.
She just knew it.

Lousy prologue, I know, but I'm trying here. Dante is the character I named my Red Yoshi on Paper Mario. It's due to Dante's red outfit. Here are the other choices
