Full Name: Hong Meiling
Nicknames: Kurenai Misuzu, "China." (Not to be confused with the Hetalia China. Also, note that Hong will hate you if you call her by either of these names, though most Touhou fans will know her as China anyway.)
Age: Unknown; debated to be about at least a few centuries long or maybe even thousands of years old due to probably being a part of Chinese history once before coming to Gensokyo.

Race: Youkai. It is unknown what kind of Youkai. A lot of fans debate that she is a powerful dragon Youkai, but chooses not to show it due to her laid back nature. So she ends up coming off as a humanoid instead. Others try to make her up as a unique type of Youkai. More just let her remain a mystery.
Alliance: Chaotic Good (You could call her good for being a guard, even for a vampire, and yet chaotic as she doesn't do her job overtly right.)

Physical Description: Hong Meiling's appearence "screams" Chinese, quite literally. She has long scarlet hair that she sometimes ties into pigtails or buns, giving her a more Chinese looking appearence already. Her blue eyes are normal enough, but the other thing that makes her look extremely Chinese is her clothing. She has a green beret and dress that resembles Chinese clothing. Her beret also has a gold star on it that holds a Chinese character able to be read as "long," even though it means dragon. It should also be noted that Hong Meiling is one of the few characters in Touhou that ZUN drew with breasts and gorgeous legs, considering ZUN's usually not good at this. This leads to jokes being made that Meiling might have the biggest breasts, since most of the more flat-chested characters are said to have them in reality. We assume she's at least a double D there. And, once again, she has long, supple legs. I know this is a perverted analysis, but it still has to be made.
Weapons: Hong Meiling needs no weapons. Not only does she have Danmaku, no matter how much she sucks at it, but she is a powerhouse with her body as is thanks to her abilities.
Abilities/Powers: Fans often try to make it look like Hong Meiling has more abilities then what she shows, as they try to make her look like a Dragon Youkai. The powers that Hong Meiling shows involves the control of Qi, life energy, in order to make her attacks stronger. Combined with her mastery of Chinese style martial arts, it makes Hong Meiling a powerhouse at melee range. That being said, she also has her Danmaku. The bullets are all colors of the rainbow, but she doesn't like to use Danmaku as she knows how horrible she is at it. But, because Danmaku is the main style of battle in Touhou, she accepts it and often gets defeated due to it, leaving a very angry Sakuya to clean up the mess.
Skills: Though she's not a very good guard, due to having to use Danmaku more then melee and thanks to her natural slacking tendencies, Hong Meiling makes a very good gardener. She's probably better at taking care of flowers then actual combat.
Personality: Hong Meiling is a very laid back person to the point that she forgets to do her own job. Even though she can be alert and ready when she needs to be, she still often falls asleep on the job or gets caught distracted by something, whether it be the weather or what not. As a result, people often sneak in, usually Marisa to steal books from Patchouli, and Hong Meiling of course gets punished for it. It's speculated that she'll only guard the mansion from people that are a true threat and that she sees the people that DO get in as guests that are harmless, the reason she lets them pass on ahead. When she tried to fight Reimu and Marisa before, she had perceived them as a threat, yet they had still defeated her anyway. However, as shown by what she does against Taisui Xingjun in Touhou Hisoutensoku, it's quite obvious that she is extremely powerful in her own right and should be regarded as such.
History: Hong Meiling doesn't appear much in the Touhou Series, so there isn't much history on here. From what anyone gets about her, she was probably taken in by Sakuya to be the gatekeeper and kept by Remilia as a sort of 'comic relief' considering the fact she sucks at it. She has kept quite a few people from the mansion, but sometimes, even when alert, she fails. Her first appearence in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil shows as much. She attempts to keep Reimu from getting in, but falls to the Shrine Maiden's superior danmaku skills. Thus Reimu goes in, defeats Patchouli, Sakuya, and eventually ruins Remilia's plans. Sakuya, in turns, stuck many a knife into Meiling at that point. She never even noticed when Marisa broke in, resulting in the Ordinary Magician's fight against Flandre Scarlet. From there on, Hong Meiling's appearence just faded away. It is assumed, during most of the games, that she just continues to guard the Scarlet Devil Mansion and takes care of the garden. In Touhou Hisoutensoku, however, she has to fight against the god known as Taisui Xingjun, who takes the form of a catfish and aims to destroy the world, and she manages to defeat him and his minions. Maybe this is supposed to be a dream, but as of now, not even I know.
