Can a ghost really pale? Who knows, but that seems to be what William just did. He shook his head, "I will not allow you to kill yourself. We were heading to the City, were we not? We should go now."
He didn't really have much in the way of powers, as it were. But he would try and stop Danny if he attempted something stupid. He hadn't felt that thing. Belphegor would have killed them had they remained. This thing would kill them if they fought it. He wondered if he was going to have to give Danny a lesson on tactics at some point. He was staring rather intently at the ghost boy. If Danny even looked like he was going to go after their observer, he would try to stop him.

Daniel had to pause for a moment. Did the other ghostly teenager just imply that fighting their observer would be suicide? Well that was... oddly disconcerting. As it stood, the half ghost really wasn't ready to become a full ghost. And with how his powers were messing up, with his luck, he'd be stuck in some weird limbo or something.
"Right... yeah... the city. Gotcha." Danny responded, hesitantly resuming his movement in the city's direction.
"Answer me this, boy." A voice returned to William's head. It would appear that the observer was rather talkative.
"What has snow white hair, glowing green eyes, and will soon be covered in red?"

William grimaced, painful not so forgotten memories welling up as the voice continued to talk to him. He glanced at Danny, but the "half-ghost" as he referred to himself didn't seem to be involved in the conversation. "Boy". He averted his gaze if Danny looked at him. That mage had taunted him in such a manner. Would he be able to protect Danny? Was he capable to protect anyone? He'd let his siblings die, he'd lost his kingdom before his eyes. Those that had remained in the palace had been lost to him thanks to the spirits of those loyal to the mage and the demon Belphegor. The observer would likely pick up on the painful emotions and desperation, something that probably amused it greatly.
Because William could form no words. If Danny did manage to catch a look at his face, he'd see great emotional duress. If the creature's goal was to torment the ghostly prince, it was succeeding rather well. He fought to harden his expression and looked towards Danny. He had been flying after the other teenager the whole time.
"Danny, may I put forth an inquiry?"
Hopefully the teenager would understand that William mean "Can I ask you something?" - It was rather proper way of saying it.

Something was wrong. The half-ghost could almost sense it. It was almost like the voices of a thousand Vulcans screamed in agony before simultaneously end-no, wait, wrong character. Er... it was like really really bad things were going to happen. Yeah, sure, that works. Let's just say it was like the streams in Ghosbusters were about to be crossed.
"Hm?" Danny heard William's noble tone come from behind him. He turned a bit to face the other ghostly teenager, quirking a brow.
"Sure, man, go ahead." Daniel responded, stopping. Because, you know, flying backwards would be a very, very bad idea. He could fly into something... or someone, for that matter.

"I hope you do not presume me forward at this, but it seems your powers are acting odd. You have reacted in such a manner that implies as such. And just now, when you went to 'go ghost' as you seem to refer to it as, the energy seemed different. Do you perchance know the cause?"
William seemed a bit concerned that Danny had stopped. On that note he flew up so he came beside the teenager. He was more concerned with not interruppting an answer with saying his intentions, but he hoped the teenager would understand he meant for them to continue together. So that they could continue forward as they talked.

Danny caught on, and took flight again, assuming that William was beside him. Right. There was apparently something behind them, and it would most likely be a good idea to get some distance between them. After all, Dr. Scott wasn't here to beam them up if anything went wrong. Star Trek jokes aside, it really was a good idea to continue flying.
"Not exactly. It COULD be because I'm out of practice, I guess. Haven't gone ghost in a while. And then this place could be effecting me. Maybe even that... whatever that's following us, or Bel-whateverhisnamewas. This is actually the first time I can remember this happening to me since I first got my powers."

William considered Danny's explanation for a few moments. He shook his head, "If it were merely the trouble you had back at the castle, I could perhaps accept that explanation. But that previous time you had changed... it seemed to me to be painful. If it were the cause of our pursuer," William glanced back. He was quite sure they were still being followed. He turned forward again before continuing, "I am rather sure it would have gloated over the issue. And as much darkness as it seems to possess, it seems far too confident to resort to tricks such as those against us."
William paused before speaking more, "However, you say that you are out of 'practice'? And since you first received your powers...? What ill fated encounter brought them upon you? I was until now under the impression in order to be 'half' something, one had to be born in that manner."

Well, that was unexpected. Not so much that Danny didn't expect Will to ask, no. In fact, he'd expected him to ask much sooner. What he HADN'T expected, however, was that he really didn't have an answer. He was silent for a few moments, thinking. He knew the BASICS. He opened a portal and got some awesome powers. Otherwise, he knew nothing of it.
"Er... well, my parents built this portal to the Ghost Zone... which is where ghosts in my world go. It didn't exactly WORK, though. So they gave up on it. I went in and pressed the 'on' button, it turned on, and here I am. Pretty cool, huh?" Daniel responded to the not-Danny teenager.

William blinked. Built? Portal? Oh, wait.
"Your parents are practitioners of the dark arts, then? You do not mean to say your powers are granted to you by a demon...?"
Cause building portals to "ghost" worlds was a rather... arcane type of thing. Cause, you know, the castle he was living in had nothing in the way of technology. And the time he came from most certainly didn't, at least not in terms of modern era technology. Magic really was the only explanation William's mind was capable of grasping at.
Dark arts, though? Danny might stand a small chance of getting that William had just asked if his parents were wizards. Then again, it might go right over his head and into mindscrew territory.

"...what? No, dude. See, where I come from we have this thing called 'technology'. It's like... magic, in a way, but by no means... dark. I assume I got my powers from another ghost, also." Because, really. It simply didn't make sense for the portal itself to have been all that gave Daniel his powers. Especially with how he had to get his powers back after he'd given them up. Being blasted by every single one of his enemies and whatnot. That couldn't have simply been a one-time only scenario, right?
All of that aside, Daniel was mentally facepalming. Of COURSE William hadn't know what technology was. Danny didn't even remember seeing a television in William's castle.

William looked mildly annoyed, "I am familiar with technology. Those that have visited the castle have had objects they have referred to as cellphones or mp3 players. There was a time of uneasy peace before Belphegor arrived. As long as none ventured into the crypt, they would be in a marginality of safe among the palace walls. What I am not able to grasp, however, is how technology could open a portal to what appears to be a sort of ghost realm by your descriptions."
William shook his head and sighed, "It seems you admit the possibility of gaining your powers from another. I am unsure how this makes you half-anything. And if your presumption is true, than why has this ghost never spoken to you? Never shown itself nor made any demands? It hardly seems beneficial to merely hand its power to you, and I know of none that act without expectation of some compensation."
They'd covered over half the distance to the city by now. Barring something unforeseen, they'd be there quick enough.

"Uh... well... that's... a very good question, actually. Hey, I think we're getting close to the city." Danny responded. Had to cover his lack of answer, obviously. Really, it should've been quite obvious, though. The ghost that had given Danny his powers could have been near the verge of ghost-death. Simply speaking, its consciousness could've been overpowered by Daniel's own, effectively putting the teen in the driver's seat. But Daniel, unfortunately, was not gifted with the ability to read the fourth wall.
William would probably notice the lack of the entity's presence. It wasn't as if he'd flown away, with the energy he put off, he could possibly still be felt. It was that the area was suddenly very quiet... almost dead, without him. Odd.

William kept his gaze locked on the half-ghost teenager after his reply. But it seemed no better answer would be forthcoming. As it was, he was more concerned with the lack of energy in the area. He hovered for a moment and looked around, his sword hand at ready. It wasn't like he could make use of the sword in this form... it was merely a habit he had picked up in life.
As it was though, he had stopped. And didn't seem satisfied with being unable to pinpoint the presence, as he continued to look.

Well, that was odd. Wasn't it William that seemed to want them to fly while talking? Didn't he have a 'no bathroom breaks' unspoken rule in play? So why then, was the other ghost suddenly stopping, glancing around, reaching for his sword? He almost seemed paranoid. And Daniel was pretty sure the plan was to NOT seem paranoid to the entity.
"Uh... something wrong, Will?" Danny asked of the other green-eyed ghost. The one that wasn't him. The one that was full ghost, and had a sword. That one.

William looked up, "My name is William, not Will. I request you refrain from using such a familiar term. As for your inquiry, I am concerned about the lack of presence. It seems there is nothing to be done over it, however. I aplogize for concern I may have caused you."
Okay, William hadn't meant to be rude there, but it could very much come across as such. Fact was, the ghostly prince still considered Danny a commoner. His way of speaking if nothing else was indication of that. While the half-ghost's exploits would have gotten him knighted in Will's world, the prince did not know of them and was not the type to confer such respect on an apocryphal basis.
He tried to look less nervous and flew past Danny, headed for the city. Five minutes, tops. He was trying to not look concerned any more... only partially succeeding at it.
