Less than twenty four hours.
The person who had been checked in under the name Bakura Ryou looked over at the clock on the wall. It was next to the television. 12:15AM. He'd nodded off a bit there after the rather entertaining events of midnight. He hadn't known about the Midnight channel, actually, but as an odd twist of fate would have it he'd been staring at the television while lost in thought when that little display had come up. However, it created worry for the thief king of Ancient Egypt. Adachi knew about the 'TV World', so odds were he'd know about that as well.
Surveillance cameras had taken some slight getting used to. In Egypt (Ancient, he had to remind himself), they hadn't had such things. Still, with what he'd observed of the society as it existed, it didn't seem likely they'd have one on him here. The way the nurses had come in told him that they had other ways of monitoring patients. However, it still created a problem. Once he unconnected himself from all these wires, they'd know. So he'd have to be quick.
He couldn't stay here. Adachi was a law enforcement official. He would be able to get into the room. After that display on the television, Adachi would know he wasn't Ryou. Anpu lifted the blankets off. He was out of the worst of it, and if he could get going he could always steal medication...
----------
The two ambulences had pulled up within seconds of each other. There had been some conversation over the radio, and there was no argument who needed to go first. Kisa had regained consciousness about a minute before arrival. She'd tried to be polite in her panic, but some of what she said removed any doubt she at least needed to be looked at. She'd conceded to avoid putting Seto in too much trouble.
Getting the patients out meant that Adachi would see her. They had gotten the bleeding in his shoulder more or less stopped, but they hadn't wrapped it as the bullet still needed to be removed. Kisa hadn't argued when they insist she stay on the stretcher. They'd insist the same with Adachi as well, but it was anyone's guess if he'd actually listen...

On the way to the hospital, Adachi had been thinking about things. In a way, this bullet wound was a bit of a blessing. It gave him an excuse to go to the hospital when visiting hours were over. It gave him a chance to find that son of a bitch, Anpu. He knew the truth now... that he'd really thrown Bakura into the TV. He didn't have his gun; it had been left in the hallway back at the apartment complex, but he still had his own two hands. Even with that excruciating pain, he still had his hands.
He had been told to stay on the stretcher, but the moment the ambulance doors opened up, he jumped off and started running, which probably wasn't a good plan, considering the bleeding started up again the moment he started running. He caught sight of that Shiroi girl as he jumped out of the ambulance, but he didn't have time to focus on her. He had to get to Anpu's room.
He knew exactly where Anpu's room was. He'd spent enough time there earlier today, after all. And if anyone tried to stop him, he had his badge, after all.
He found the room quickly enough, and shoved the door open just as Anpu lifted the blankets off of his body.
"...I should kill you right now for what you've done," Adachi said. He sounded rather creepy at the moment, and while he didn't sound at all amused, it was the same tone of voice that he used when he was talking as his true self, without hiding anything.

The reaction to Adachi's sudden change in appaerent attitude wasn't stunned silence. The NPCs weren't useless, after all. In fact, two of them almost had Adachi thrown down, but they really had underestimated his agility. There was quite a bit of shouting, and once it was clear Adachi had gotten loose, one of them was running to the ambulence to radio the situation to the hospital staff. Kisa's eyes had widened as she heard the shouting and the man run past. She might have even sat up had one of the EMPs not held her and told her it was going to be alright. She didn't argue.
There had been a few attempts to stop Adachi, but the man was moving rather fast. A flashed badge here, a slight delay of communication there. He'd managed to make it to the room. Anpu had stopped as soon as the door was thrown open, knowing without seeing who it was. He gave a bitter smirk for a moment before turning his full focus to Adachi. That was definently a face belonging to Anpu.
It would be almost impossible for Adachi to see. Anpu's left arm was concealed by the blanket that he'd dropped as soon as the door flew open. Underneath that blanket, was a button. Anpu pressed the button. He'd had it explained to him when he first regained consciousness. It was a call button, if he needed help he was just to press it. All this took about a second, and after that he turned back to Adachi. The Adachi he'd met once before, in the alley when the man used his 'Persona'.
"You're right," Anpu stated, "But if you kill me, Ryou won't have a body to return to. Do you think the Millenium Ring can be used by just anyone?"

Adachi glared at Anpu. Again, the man was trying to use his attachment to Bakura against him. In truth, that possibility was the only reason Adachi wasn't trying to kill Anpu right now. He didn't have much time. The hospital staff would have seen him running, and the fact that he'd basically burst into here wasn't helping.
He suddenly gave a smirk. "Aren't you forgetting what happened the last time I threw one of those damn Items into the other side? That Pharaoh came back in his own body. And Seta's friends are all going to rescue Ryou tomorrow before the fog comes."
Adachi knew it was only a matter of time before the staff came in here and dragged him off to get that bullet removed. He needed to decide what he was going to do fast.

"Your logic falls short, Tohru. You say the Pharaoh came back in his own body? Then wouldn't Ryou come back in mine? I have his body after all. And if I were to suddenly become injured... who do you think would be blamed?" Anpu smirked.
He still clearly felt in control, and his eye contact hadn't broken with Adachi for a moment. He'd noted the injury though. A hole in the man's suit, a darkened spot that could be nothing but blood. He knew how modern hospitals worked already. They didn't let people just run around with injuries like that. And he had pressed the call button. Anpu had part of his awareness focused on the blocked door. He'd mimic the teenager whose body he was using the instant someone showed up. A very scared teenager.

"Urk..." Adachi gulped. Anpu was the one in control here, and Adachi knew that he could mimic Bakura should it come to it. Well, Anpu wasn't the only one good at pretending to be something he wasn't, if it came to that.
"Even if that happens, I'll find some way to separate you and Ryou. I'm not going to let you do this anymore," Adachi said. "If it takes drastic measures to do so, I will. Just as long as it gets you away from him... permanently."

Anpu smirked. It was nothing like what he was feeling. He felt frustrated, and there were traces of being cornered here. Adachi was a police officer. Takahashi, although he hadn't heard of him for a while, was as well. Adachi would hesitate over Ryou, Takahashi at most thought it was a case of split personality. It was more likely he thought it was a public facade. The smirk Adachi would see hovered for a moment, and then widened more. Anpu had planned on answering, but his entire presence changed as soon as he saw the hand grasp Adachi's good shoulder.
"Help!"
The hand loosened. The man behind Adachi was a doctor by his outfit, and he had a syringe in his other hand. He'd intended on knocking Adachi out, on assumption the man was in some form of shock. Of course, then he'd heard the patient in the room shout out for help, and it had caused hesitation.
Internally, Anpu was facepalming.

Adachi flinched as he felt a hand grasp his shoulder. It had been his uninjured one, thankfully, but he jumped all the same. He turned as Anpu switched to his Bakura imitation, and realized who was behind him. A doctor... with a syringe. He's going to try to sedate me, Adachi realized.
He switched back to his normal expression and looked between the doctor and Anpu. He looked rather panicked as well as he spoke again.
"Ryou-kun, it's okay! Just please, calm down!" Adachi said with the kind of worried tone he might use around the real Bakura. He looked back toward the doctor, and the expression on his face was the kind of worry a parent might show when their child was in danger. "I-I was worried about Ryou-kun, s-so I ran down here to see if he was still doing okay, but he freaked out when I came in!"
As it was, Adachi had a feeling he was going to be on the losing end of this. People tended to trust a child more than an adult in situations like this, especially when the involved adult had just ran out of an ambulance and through the entire hospital, ignoring security and staff.

Anpu's expression softened and his apparent fear faded to confusion. He wobbled a bit, even though he was just sitting, and rubbed his eyes. The doctor was holding the syringe up, but hesitating over the entire situation. He'd noted the teenager's expression shift, and was now very confused.
"A-Adachi-san...?"
"Ryou, correct? Are you alright? You hit the call button, right?"
Anpu blinked and looked down at the blanket, "S-sorry! I must have bumped it! Don't hurt Adachi-san!"
"Didn't you say you needed help?" The doctor was keeping one eye on Adachi.
"I'm really really sorry! I... I'm really tired..."

Adachi's expression softened as Anpu spoke. That had been an amazing expression shift on his part, and Adachi might have fallen for it if he didn't already know who that was. Well, two could play at that game.
"...Oh... Sorry I woke you up, then," Adachi said. He gave a small smile. "I'm glad to see you're feeling better. And don't run off anywhere until you're fully healed! You'll just reopen your wounds if you do that!"
And with that, he turned to the doctor. "...I'm sorry about running off like that. I really was worried about him." He lowered his voice. "...By the way, you might want to keep an eye on him. He doesn't like enclosed spaces too much, and might run away..."

The doctor nodded. Adachi would likely be able to tell he was just doing so to make Adachi happy. Anpu lay his head down on the bed and closed his eyes. He had heard what Adachi had said, but even if he'd wanted to he couldn't give a clear reaction. It didn't tie his hands too much, any blood would be considered to be on Ryou's hands after all. He seemed to fall asleep.
"Come on, we need to get that bullet out of your shoulder," the doctor said.

Adachi nodded and turned to leave. He knew the doctor was just expressing his sympathy to make him happy, which Adachi didn't mind. Adachi wasn't really feeling happy right now anyways. He left the room once Anpu appeared to fall asleep, and allowed the doctor to guide him away from Anpu's room. They did still need to get that bullet out of his shoulder.
